I went to a private hospital. The doctor that attended to me (over 34 years experience) also did not recommend losartan like you said. I was given an injection (don't know what it's meant for) and six different drugs. I think Relodipin is the only antihypertensive among the drugs. He also said I will take the injection for three to four days.

I am glad to hear you took an alternative path. Losartan is a very good medication but not a first line for moderate hypertension that isn't compounded with other issues like diabetes and left ventricular hypertrophy. It's biggest gain is in diabetic nephropathy where it helps improve kidney function for people with diabetes...

Relodipin is an Indian Pharmaceutical brand of the active ingredient Amlodipine and it's a very effective antihypertensive. Don't forget to cut down on sait, eat plenty of vegetables and fruits and stay active ...All the best

To be able to better guide you let's know your blood pressure numbers. Where did you get your readings? Do you feel like you will faint? Are you drinking enough water? Do you have any other health issues?


This is the last reading she got, 62. She is in her late thrites and a mother of 1. As at this morning, the only complain is light headache, pains in the legs and tiredness. Any idea of what to do

In the absence of pictures of her reading, just do well to state her blood pressure in the systolic/ diastolic order
As you can see from the picture I attached, that's my blood pressure reading this morning which includes my systolic, diastolic and heartbeat rate (pulse). At such my blood pressure this morning is 106/67 and my heart is beating at approximately 78 times a minute.

Hypotension has a bucket of causes and in instances where there is pronounced symptoms that affects the individual, treatment is based on diagnosing the root cause to appropriate treatment. Different causes are dehydration, blood loss, pregnancy, emotional stress, certain heart diseases, internal bleeding like ulcers that causes blood loss, certain medications etc..There is no need to panic, let's start first by ascertaining there is hypotension in the first place.

Blood pressure comes in two numbers. The systolic which is the pressure exerted on the arteries when the heart beats and the diastolic which is the pressure exerted on the arteries when the heart is at rest between beats.

Where has she been monitoring her BP? In a health unit or at home? If it is at home can you send a picture of her last reading that includes the BP monitor.. If it is at home have others used the monitor too without low results? So many questions cos I want to first ascertain on the validity of the BP machine used especially if it's a home unit..

I lost an immediate sister twenty years ago to diabetes. She was just 19years old. At sixteen one of my sisters already had blood pressure as high as 200/110. Then one morning, 8 years ago, I got up to a blood pressure of 260/154. Today My BP is 115/65. It has been a journey of faith, commitment, discipline and grace..It is safe to say I come from a family with genes that are prone to endocrine disorders.

Essential hypertension happens to most people as they get older. For teens and younger persons hypertension can be caused by different reasons. It could be primary as seen in obese kids or secondary as aresult of hormonal issues, kidney problems etc..

Looking at your prescriptions, Amlodipine a calcium channel blocker is a good first line. However I am a little surprised it is being associated with Losartan an ARB instead of a diuretic like HCT which is a recommended first line for blacks . I don't know the specifics of your blood tests so can't question your doctor's choice.

However my honest opinion is that you see a specialist for consultation. An Internist or Cardiologist would be better choices. They would start by running a comprehensive blood tests to check on your kidney fuction, lipids, electrolytes etc. Based on your specific symptoms he might want to check on hyperaldosteronism which causes an excess production of aldosterone that shoots the BP, hyperthyroidism that produces excess hormones that fasten metabolism and stiffen the arteries etc..

Well, health they say is wealth,but little did I know what that saying meant,not until I found myself on a hospital bed, screaming for help.

Just last week,I thought I was gonna exit this world,prior to how I mistook my health for granted and how it almost later cost me my life..........Last Week's Monday, precisely on that fateful night,I made my toilet my bestie as I frequented it almost every single minute of the night...... Vomiting wasn't left out as well..... Honestly,I thought that'd be the end of my journey in life,cuz that was certainly the first time I experienced the symptoms and Pains that came along with it

The following morning,all I could remember was that I found myself lying helplessly on a hospital bed..

A female nurse was the one in charge and after running few tests on me,she later broke the news to me that I was suffering from cholera .
"Cholera? Like WTF? Like how did I contact cholera? But then I had to calm myself down, immediately I remembered it must had been the constant kunu,zobo and sachet water which I've been drinking recently that must had resulted to it.

Then I remembered how the news of cholera outbreak hit Nairaland's Front page but most of us took it for granted.......But little did I know I was gonna be it's victim........

Please dear Nairalanders,the cholera out break is real and it has claimed many lives just like we were told by doctors and nurses..... please let's be mindful of the kind of water and other liquid stuffs that we're consuming.......

There is an effective oral vaccine for cholera that offers as much as three years protection. In Cameroon, my country of origin there is a pilot exercise that targets vulnerable areas.. However epidemics do occur.

The last was three years ago that devastated the coastal city of Limbe. I know a few prominent persons that died. However since then the source of the epidemic was traced and appropriate measures taken to prevent recurrences.
