Zocken:

Is it possible to socialise a boerboel with a german shepherd?
Thanks

well...it is but that would take quite sometime and training, this is because boerboels are very domineering and your GSD would really not want to bow down to a new comer, especially if they are both males...

my boerboel(female) and german sherperd(male) play along because they grew up together and Meredith Grey(the boerboel) has taken the leadership role

*passing by*,,,,if you need a very strong protective dog that is lovable and still does not take nonsense, please get a boerboel....no regrets here...*walks away*

well,,,i am sure you have sorted out the food issue,,,,,please the next is the cage,,,if i am right, that wood shackle over there is the cage ....what i can see is a poorly constructed improvised wet cage that can cause a lot of damage to your dogs health, ....except i am wrong and that is not the cage...for which i am sorry

Pets / Re: The Right Way To Train A Dog by doeying(m): 9:48am On Apr 08, 2015
....well, there are subtle ways of handling a lot of things....

its 4 months and so it has a LOT of energy... so for the destroying things part....research would tell you that your dog is bored and is trying to let out its energy and solutions would be to get another playmate for him or toys that would keep him both motivated and busy...

as for the turning over of the water bowl, well, i think you should change the bowl to one that is slightly deeper(not so deep that it would choke him while drinking) but deep enough that he cant turn it over and please wash your bowls everytime....everytime...

usually, i am sure your friend flogs the dog long after he has poured the water and forgotten so the dog gets confused as to why he is being flogged,,,so what i would advise to to wait wit the dog and that moment when it is about to turn over the bowl,,,you shout "NO!!" sternly,,,the dog becomes confused and tries it again ,,,,you shout your "no!!" and distract it by either telling it to sit or do another thing apart from playing,,,,now,,,this is not a job for one meal or one day,,,it takes patience till the dog fully understand that it is the pouring of water that is wrong.....

my 2 cents,,,,

Pets / Re: Help, Both My Dogs Are Pregnant! by doeying(m): 9:35am On Apr 08, 2015
i think first things first, you should start saving a lot of money, my boerboel just recently gave birth to 9 and i was sure glad i had money during and after the pregnancy....

now as for separating them, you should tie the male with a chain to something so it is free to move about but not free enough to jump on the females.... for the mean time, the females should also be allowed to move about (under supervision) as they need any exercise they can get,,,

at the right time,(please google the right time) you would also need to change the diet into puppy food to help the mother give nutrients to the unborn puppies,

you should start making all your friends know that you would soon have puppies if they want to purchase,,,,i dont know why i have a feeling you would have to reduce the cost of your puppies because they would be a lot.

at the moment, you should have somebody or people that would be at home during all or most of this period, the pregnancy, the giving birth and the post-birth, if one does not have adequate time for the dogs (and if unfortunately, the dam is not a good mother), you might have issues with death of puppies either due to natural causes or external causes like her sleeping on them, cold, hunger and the likes..

so please and please read up on all these things...read them by yourself and educate those around you.....

lastly, congratulations n advance...

do you understand what happens when the dog you sell bites a young child and it become an issue with the police?
you get arrested too.

so its right, not just to sell dogs but enlighten your clients on the potential dangers. known temperaments can be handled.

I understand,,,you are still stating the problem....i am asking for solutions, there are mixed breed puppies available, people are discouraged from buying them for good reasons....what happens to the pups in the end?

yes, if you can give me a good reason why you wont buy a full breed instead

well, i understand that we should not encourage cross breeding et al but i just have to ask.... what happens to these cute pups when all potential buyers are discouraged?
Pets / Re: Dog Stranger Behavior by doeying(m): 12:57am On Mar 31, 2015
HEY SOLEEXX, first and foremost, it is typed as MATING ((mating is the pairing of opposite-sex, usually for the purposes of sexual reproduction)...there are different phases whe it comes to dog mating and there are stages where she is in heat but not receptive, that is, she does not allow any male come to her. After that phase comes the stage where she wants every tom, dick and harry to mount her. this is completely normal...

as for your female dog humping or mounting, i went online for you and found this,,,i hope you find it helpful

While it is of course annoying and inappropriate for a male dog to display humping behaviour, humping behaviour in the female dog adds another element of confusion to the situation, as this is of course not as easily explicable as it is with males!

If your female dog is apt to hump things- be this toys, people or other dogs- you might well be scratching your head and wondering what is going on. However, humping in the female dog is not as uncommon as you might at first suspect, and a reasonable amount of female dogs may display this behaviour at some point in their lives. If your bitch is among them, read on to find out some of the reasons behind why female dogs might hump, and if it is a problem.

Learned behaviour

If your female dog lives with or spends a lot of time around a male dog that is apt to display humping behaviour, your bitch may simply be copying them, as dogs are very good at mimicking each other! While it is not particularly common, it would certainly not be classed as unusual for a female dog to pick up on what her common companion is doing, and emulate it. In the same way, bitches that spend a lot of time around dogs that cock their legs to pee may begin to emulate this behaviour when going to the toilet too!

Dominance displays

While we generally associate overt dominance and struggles for dominance with male dogs rather than females, a reasonable proportion of female dogs will become the alpha of the dogs that they spend time with, and when this is the case, humping may be displayed as a dominant behaviour.

Humping is one of the most obvious and overt ways of a dog of either sex communicating their perceived dominance over something; be it another dog, a person or a toy; and in this case, the behaviour is not so much sexually triggered as part of a power-play.

Emotional expression

Humping is first and foremost perceived to be a sexually motivated activity, but even among male dogs that hump, this is only one element of the behaviour, and not always relevant at all. Just as with any other learned or developed behaviour, humping may simply serve as an outlet for your dog of either sex to express emotion or get an emotional payoff from their behaviour.

Your female dog may display humping behaviour for a wide variety of reasons, such as to gain comfort when they feel anxious or uncertain, as a compulsive behaviour pattern, to ease boredom, or to get your attention if she has learned that you react to her behaviour.

Humping is also often undertaken when the dog is excited, full of beans and wants to play, as a means of controlling some of the stimulus that she is facing.

She might also hump her favourite people or other pets in greeting, as a form of hug to say hello and let you know that she has missed you!

Sexual displays

In unspayed bitches, humping can be just one of the wide range of outlets available to your dog to cope with the effects of her hormone levels and natural urges. When a female dog is in the middle of her heat cycle and is primed to reproduce, she will likely act in a whole rage of out of character and unusual ways, both to relieve her own frustration and as an attempt to attract a mate.

Spaying your female dog will almost certainly put an end to sexually-motivated humping behaviour, as she will no longer go through the heat and oestrus cycles that prompt the strong urge to mate and display overtly sexualised behaviours.

Awkward social interactions

Dogs that are not well socialised with other dogs from an early age will miss a lot of the formative phases of emotional development that teach them about appropriate play with others, and how to interact correctly with other dogs of all types.

One of the many behaviours that this may manifest as is humping from the bitch, when meeting other dogs or even other animals. This is particularly often the case among bitches that have been used for breeding and that have not socialised with many other dogs outside of their pack, if they are later spayed and spend more time with strange dogs.

Bitches with this type of background will have spent only a limited amount of time interacting socially with other dogs, and will likely have been bred several times, which of course involves mating behaviour. As a result of this, the bitch associates humping and mounting with what happens when she meets another dog, and despite the removal of the sexual element of the procedure, this may simply form her go-to introduction, something that training and further socialisation may be able to resolve.

Pets / Re: Dog Expert Alert! Cohabiting A Boerboel And Alsatian? by doeying(m): 5:11am On Mar 06, 2015
here is my piece...
Boerboels are known to be quite jealous animals, they are also very quick to learn.... we raised our boerboel(female) and alsatian(male) together and what i can say is due to their size, they always tend to lead the park....

what i think you should do is....try to show the boerboel more love, not that you ignore the alsatian, but just to show the boerboel that its presence is not threatened, that way it would not feel jealous,,,after gaining its trust, then the training comes in....i am sure that before any attack, there is always a growling....so what you should do there is, just at that moment when it sees the other dogs and begins to growl, you snap your fingers and say "shush" authoritatively, dont shout it...that way, you distract it from the other dog and continue to play with it ...you have to keep doing this for as long as you can till the dog is almost ignorant of the other dogs presence...anytime, it wants to look at the other dog and react, snap your fingers again, say "shush" and at the same time, hit the boerboel with your foot just a little space under the belly, it would get distracted and not growl again.....you could also make the dog "sit" and continue sitting while the other dog passes by(with someone holding it tho)....

now please be informed that dogs reflect our energies and this is why its not advisable to shout when dogs fight, they fight harder....so anytime your alsatian comes a little close to the boerboel to the extent of growling, do all you can to remain calm and not expect a fight....unless your dog would see that tiny energy that you are nervous and would want to do something about the threat(the other dog).

p.s...i watch a lot of episodes of "Dog Whisperer" and all the techniques (plus all my personal experience )i have tried have all worked...

so please, educate all your family members and make sure the trianing is a continuous thing,,,not just in the night or for three weeks but until both of them can actually play with eachother....

theres room for correction from those that know better
