ShaqFu:No you were saying earlier that our country is bad because the citizens are bad or at least worse than other citizens. And I'm telling you that you're wrong. The country is bad because our institutions are weak, and our institutions are weak because the politicians who make them are terrible, the politicians are terrible because the masses responsible for electing them are largely ignorant of their roles and don't get to participate in the process that elects them hence leaving a group of politicians not accountable to the masses. |
May I know the root cause of these homophobia being thrown around and why I seem to be a target of them? I'm seeing my username being bandied about as homosexual, is there a reason for this I'm not aware of? |
ShaqFu:Good, so who elects the legislature? Is it not the masses who elects the legislature? And I am telling you that the reason we have terrible politicians is because the vast majority of the masses so not care about democracy or elections and it's importance. I can almost swear that more than half of the readers of my post right now have never voted for any politician before. Not knowing just how powerful the politicians are and how powerful they themselves as individuals are in deciding who gets elected. |
Izzou and blueraydick, I expect an apology from both of you. There is nothing I did not say to prove to you guys how tinubu was running a highly tribal-charged campaign and running a politics of division as evidenced by those around him and hateful vitriol of his supporters. You guys kept telling me tinubu is not a tribal person. Well, he himself has come out to prove you wrong. Singling out a tribe for xenophobic and tribal narratives. As I said I expect that apology from you guys. Denying what was very obvious right from time. https://gazettengr.com/igbos-overcrowding-lagos-because-obi-refused-to-develop-anambra-tinubu/

ShaqFu:So simple question, who are in charge of setting or making the laws that make society better? |
GloriousGbola:Yahoo yahoo and rape are crimes committed all over the world. Like it's a crime present in all countries of the world because every human being has some sort of "bad quality" in them. This is still inconsequential to the quality of governance they experience in their country. Brazil has a healthy democracy with a fairly strong economy but still has a high rate of individual crime, same with India. What does individual crime have to do with the political system and quality of governance of a country? You guys seem soo adept at painting Nigerians as worse than others which is why we have bad politicians. Bit that is simply not true. Nigeria has bad politicians because a vast majority of it's population are not voter educated. And by that I mean that even the literate and educated populace are not yet fully informed as to the design and method of our political system, or desire to participate in them so our politics is merely relegated to a game of the minority in the society. In other words, many people simply ignore politics leading to the worst being elected. |
Well said izuchukwu. izzou: |
ShaqFu:This is superlative nonsense I'm sorry to say. How exactly do a people decide to "put aside differences and work for ourselves"? Of course, I understand and agree with the sentiment but how exactly does that happen? As I said earlier, it's theoretical superlative nonsense because this doesn't address the issue of bad governance and a systemic dysfunction we have in Nigeria. And Moreso there is no country on this planet where all the citizens are united but they still have strong systems at work. America is deeply divided, like deeply deeply divided along ideological lines but they have a very solid institution and system that checks the powers of their politicians. So the question still stands from disstroy, what are the practical solutions Nigerians can do on their part to see about the building up of strong institutions? |
OyinO:Except this person didn't go to anywhere and start advocating for anything. He was literally where he was born and grew up and decided to live his own life in his own society.. he didn't choose where or how he was born. People basically killed him for who he was not who he chose to be. |
Itsrm:I really don't like dictatorial leaders. I want leaders who listen to those around them and then takes objective decisions. Wike would be a very bad president, thank God we were spared that. Wike is just like trump in my book. |
Where is kloppo? I really miss that guy. What happened to him? |
Nezzjnr:Serious? Congrats to you bro |
chrisooblog:I disagree with him completely on that. But I note how sadly such views are enabled by his religion and his society. That's what I'm lamenting, hoping that we're able to overcome as a society. We're still too conservative for my liking. |
iamoyindamola:The fool can't even spell rabid. e say na rapid dog.I know say na your type no go university. Go dey sell agbalomo for mango tree. ![]() Man, go out there and be useful with your life, stop obsessing over someone that doesn't care one ounce about you. Stop being a useless pest. |
TheStrongest:Clearly you are not active in this section, this guy follows me around everywhere cowardly throwing insults from the sideline even though I no send am. If you don't like what I post, why not scroll past and avoid me, but the imbecile_ keeps insulting his father. It's not a one time thing. Heck, my reaction is not even enough, if I dig into his posts here e go believe. |
lexy2014:The west is the epitome of liberalism. They are a place where rights are protected. |
lexy2014:I mean, how is homosexuality the standard, I don't understand the statement |
Obidatti is a goal. We're just waiting for the inauguration. |
lexy2014:What do you mean? |
iamoyindamola:You are a very stupid goat, aren't you?? Like the most foolish coward, I've ever seen. All you do is stay on the sideline and throw shade, you're not even man enough to quote the person you are attacking. I understand though, as a short person, you've been intimidated all your life, so all you can cowardly do is insult from a distance while being terrified of engaging directly. Very idiotic fool that keeps obsessing over me. Continue oo. |
Moderator please for the love of God, ban this slyfox guy, he is rendering this thread unreadable. He's making this place unwelcoming to new readers. |
Elder0001:That's what pains me the most. "Christians actually being satisfied with someone being killed for doing something they don't like. It's just sad seeing it. I saw a thread on Twitter about this issue and the responses to this crime were just insane. You see people saying, don't do something that is unpopular in a society. Really?? So no appraisal of the brave anymore. I was telling people on that frontpage post, today it's a gay person being killed, tomorrow it can be you being killed for holding hands with your babe in Abuja. Live and let live |
LordHarrizona:And what is the big deal about my own "generation"? There is nothing like "western rubbish". I'm advocating for a free society, one where you don't need to be judged by another person's standard. One where doing what you personally like without harming anyone and not be killed for it. |
izzou:The thing is the fact that there isn't actually any "project" being carried out. They are actually lying to the unsuspecting travellers in God's name. |
Itsrm:I hate when I see people prey on people's emotions. Some actively inject fear into the people's mind to make them give them money. Knowing that these "preachers" are actually very fake and do it for the hustle just makes me mad times 10. The preacher that made me first tackling these kind of people is the one that actually came for me because I was pressing my phone while he was preaching, I dey mind my business jeje, this nincompoop single me out as "agent of darkness" because I no dey listen to him bullshite, after finishing him that day I swore that whenever I travel in public again, I go get their time wella. |
Itsrm:The worst scammers for me are the one's in the parks that weaponize religion. The "mobile preachers". They position at motor parks and enter every traveling vehicle. After praying for travelers, they bring up a fake project or so they are doing and use emotional blackmail on the travelers. I usually have a fun time putting them down hard when I get the opportunity, especially when they use emotional blackmail, "if you don't support the mission of the lord, how do you expect him to protect you on your journey". Omo, I call him a scammer and a terrible person for preying on gullible people. The simplest way to silence them is to ask the driver and conductor, how long they've been doing what they're doing. |
GloriousGbola:Nigerians are not more corrupt than Americans. There are thieves everywhere in the world. Now prevalence of the issue in both places is very different because one has a working system in place that penalizes offenders effectively. If Nigeria strengthens her institutions, set it up such that it is very effective at detecting and penalizing corrupt offenders especially in politics and financial institutes, the problem is solved. We then have accountable public officers who go into public service not primarily to make money but to serve. |
Please go out and vote.

Very solid point made here.

Very important message for all.

Strong institutions are the solutions to public corruption. Politicians are the ones that institute the system in place. By system we mean, financial institutions, the judiciary personel (politicians appoint judges), investigate and prosecution agencies and personel (efcc and icpc). And laws pertaining to anti-corruption practices. The masses are responsible for the elected politicians. We elect our senators, we elect our governors, we elect our president. So the onus falls on us to elect the best options always taking those steps is the ONLY way things can change. OR You could bury your head in the sand like a coward and give in to hopelessness and keep wailing everyday as to how things keep getting worse without offering a solution. |
