a simple question Ma. " Is Jonathan above the law"? iflywithbuhari: |
The Public Relations Officer, 19 Northern States and Abuja of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Joseph Hayab, has observed that the popularity of the present administration in the country was rapidly dwindling among Nigerians, advising that any attempt to arrest former President, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan will not speak well of the country. In a statement he issued and made available to newsmen in Kaduna Tuesday said, “Every honest Nigerian knows that the fellers on the ground is that this administration’s popularity is dwindling rapidly among Nigerian people. It is, therefore, not advisable to think or plan to arrest former President, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. “Let me warn that such a misadventure will set a wrong precedent and only open door for mischief people to set this nation into confusion. “What Nigerians need urgently is availability of fuel, electricity, prompt salary, security of lives and property, among other issues that are begging for urgent answers. “If the purported plan to arrest him is to please the international community and prove to them that we are fighting corruption, then let us know that this same international community are busy celebrating him as hero of democracy and even those who seriously wanted him to go for a change to happen are now singing a new song about him. “Former President, Jonathan is deservedly seen in Nigeria and beyond as a hero of democracy because of his actions before, during and after the 2015 elections. “As such, it will be an ill advice for the Buhari administration to initiate the arrest of such a statesman at this time and with the current realities. “Our government must know that there are individuals serving today that are also been accused of corruption but since there are claims that nothing has been established against them, they are walking and speaking like saints. “While ignoring all these, Government now wants to arrest a man of peace like Jonathan? CAN Northern States wishes to advice that such an action, if actualized, has the capacity to lead to serious confusion that will affect Nigeria economically and otherwise. “We believe Former President Jonathan deserves praise and should receive gratitude from those in power today not scorn. “Let it not be that this purported planned arrest is meant to distract Nigerians from speaking or complaining about the reality of what and how they are feeling since the past eleven months, we are afraid that such an action may spark a chain of reactions. “If our President wants to arrest anything for now then he should arrest the incessant spate of herdsmen attacks in Nigeria which has led to the deaths of almost a thousand of innocent Nigerians under his watch. “He should arrest the dangerous slide in the power sector.he should arrest the slide in the economy. “We believe at this time and with the current realities that our former president most not be denigrate but honour, because honour must be given to whom it is due.” http://dailypost.ng/2016/04/26/dont-arrest-jonathan-northern-can-warns-buhari/

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Malam Muhammad Bello has ordered the removal of the speed bumps erected on the Abuja-Nyanya expressway, precisely at the Kugbo furniture market. This directive which was announced on RayPower FM on Tuesday morning and monitored by DAILY POST was in response to the public outcry that trailed the appearance of the speed bumps said to have been constructed to enable residents cross over to Kugbo without being hit by ongoing vehicles. Pliers of the road had since last Saturday when it was noticed cried out to the authorities to remove the bumps which had worsened the traffic snarl experienced on the road. Some say they spend over six hours returning home because of the ensuing gridlock. The affected passengers had threatened to take laws into their hands by coming out with shovels and diggers to remove the bumps, even as they called on the government to rather construct a pedestrian bridge there. Speaking with Mr Nwachukwu, a corps member serving in the heart of Abuja, he said, ” I live in Nyanya and since I resumed work as a corps member, I have never had such a terrible traffic experience. The speed breakers are causing serious gridlock. People who left Abuja main city around 4pm got home yesterday by 10 to 11pm. This is not good at all, especially when it’s happening in the FCT. We have been facing this terrible situation since weekend. I think the removal order is a welcome development.” http://dailypost.ng/2016/04/26/fct-minister-malam-bello-orders-removal-of-speed-bumps-on-abuja-nyanya-highway/

It doesn’t matter who initiated such policy as long as it favours our people,” he said. The Governor further explained that his primary focus was the well-being of the people of the state, as such he will welcome good policies from the Buhari-led Federal Government. http://dailypost.ng/2016/04/25/i-will-support-buharis-policies-wike/

One time governor of Yobe state now Senator representing Yobe East Senatorial District, Bukar Abba Ibrahim has revealed that most former governors in the country have issues with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. Ibrahim, who chairs the Senate Committee on Ecology and Climate Change, disclosed, in a chat with newsmen in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital, that the ongoing trial of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, was being fueled by some persons from his home state of Kwara. Ibrahim however said he is the only former governor who has never been invited or had any issue with the anti-graft agency. He voiced his conviction thus, “You know that there are so many other former governors who are in the same shoes with Saraki; whose trials have been initiated, but they were not publicised like that of Saraki, because he is the Senate president. “Almost every former governor in the Senate with the exception of Bukar Abba Ibrahim has one case or the other with the EFCC or CCT. “It’s not easy to fight corruption especially when it comes to individuals; that is why those of us do believe that corruption can best be dealt with through institutions. Let’s strengthen our institutions, stop giving and taking bribes. Institutional fight of corruption is the best fight we can have as a nation. It has begun, and it will continue for a very long time.” The two-time governor of Yobe State insisted that even if Saraki is eventually removed as the Senate President, the PDP won’t take over the leadership of the red chamber. His words, “There is no way PDP can take over Senate presidency with the presence of over 60 senators from APC against 50 PDP senators. There is just no way. “It’s not as if we are against Ike Ekweremadu in any way, he is a good legislator. I don’t mind him continuing to be deputy Senate president, because he is a very decent human being. But there is no way the leadership will be taken over by PDP,” he added. http://dailypost.ng/2016/04/25/all-ex-governors-have-issues-with-efcc-except-me-bukar-abba/

The Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, on Thursday, threw out the application by the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, where he sought for the self disqualification of the Chairman of the tribunal, Danladi Umar. Saraki through one of his counsels, Oluyele Rapheal informed the tribunal of a pending application for the tribunal Chairman , Danladi Umar to disqualify himself. Rapheal in his argument insisted that the application be heard due to the alleged shady dealings of the Chairman. “There are so many stories of the tribunal Chairman’s dealing with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. “I’m here to do my job and have the right to be heard.” But EFCC’s counsel, Rotimi Jacobs in his response urged the tribunal not to entertain the application because it’s not ripe for hearing. The tribunal Chairman, Danladi Umar held that the application shall not be “entertained and is hereby thrown out. Let’s move to the business of the day.” Saraki is standing trial for false assets declaration while he was the governor of Kwara State. http://dailypost.ng/2016/04/21/false-assets-declaration-tribunal-rejects-sarakis-appeal-for-trial-judge-to-disqualify-himself/
