The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Acting National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus has distanced the opposition party from the statement asking former President Goodluck Jonathan to open up on the $2.1 billion arms scandal. DAILY POST reports that about 12 prominent chieftains, including a former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, are currently in the EFCC net for their involvement in the sharing of the money meant for arms procurement under the Jonathan administration. The party’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Abdullahi Jalo, had at a recent press briefing, called on Jonathan to respond to the claims by Dasuki that the money was shared on the directives of the former President. However, Secondus said Jalo spoke for himself and that his views did not represent the position of the PDP leadership. “Let me make it clear to you that Jalo was only expressing his personal opinion because his views did not represent the position of the party. “There was no time we discussed at the National Executive Committee (NEC) that Jonathan should speak on the arms deal scandal. There was no time such a thing came up at the NEC. So, Jalo must be expressing his personal opinion,” the party acting chairman said. He decried the continued detention of the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh and other party chieftains by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). He also denied reports of his removal as the party’s Acting National Chairman, saying the PDP constitution recognised his present position in the absence of a substantive chair. Am not surprised. By the time Metuh gets to court, we will hear another thing different from what we have just heard. This is indeed Government of the sharing, by the sharing and for the sharing. PDP- chop i chop politics. |

Detained National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Olisa Metuh, has said he is cooperating with the Economic and Financial Crime Commission. The PDP chieftain said he had volunteered statements to the anti-graft agency in which he explained his role in the alleged arms scandal money. Metuh, in a statement by his Special Assistant Mr. Richard Ihediwa, in Abuja on Tuesday, said it was not true that he had refused to answer questions put forward to him by the EFCC investigators. He said it was true that former President Goodluck Jonathan gave him N400m for a job which he refused to disclose. Metuh had claimed earlier that he executed a project for the President, but refused to state the amount he was paid for the unknown job. In the statement by Ihediwa, Metuh who has been in detention since Tuesday last week, still refused to disclose the job he executed for the former President that fetched him the huge sum. He said he would only disclose the job he did for the former President in court. Ihediwa said, “This office wishes to state categorically that Chief Metuh has fully cooperated with investigators within his constitutionally guaranteed rights. “In exercise of his rights, he has since given his statement to the EFCC wherein he submitted that he received the sum of N400m from the former President for an assignment, which he executed to the satisfaction of the former President. “In further exercise of his rights, Metuh has also indicated his readiness to make public the nature of this assignment, but only in an open court in line with the laws of the land, and where his statement would not be distorted by anybody. “Metuh, therefore, believes that his continued incarceration and failure to charge him to court are deliberately intended to prevent him from telling his own story in the open court for all Nigerians to know.” He said that contrary to the impression that the issue of N400m was a product of investigation, it was actually a product of Metuh’s voluntary statement. Jafaru Isa returned N100m, says Magu How I shared N100m, by Nwobodo Anenih’s letter to Falae on poll deal Detectives have hit a stalemate in their bid to recover the N400 million traced to a company in which Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) spokesman Olisa Metuh has a stake. He is said to have told the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) that he would rather go on hunger strike than refund the money, which is believed to be part of the $2.1 billion arms cash allegedly diverted at the Office National Security Adviser (ONSA). EFCC chair Ibrahim Magu, who revealed Metuh’s position yesterday in Lagos, stressed that the war against corruption had just begun. Speaking during a meeting with online reporters, Magu vowed to bring corrupt elements to justice, explaining that the looting of the nation’s treasury “is mind boggling”. He said former Military Administrator of Kaduna State Brig.-Gen.Jafaru Isa had refunded N100 million of the N160million he collected from the ONSA. The ex-governorship candidate of the Congress of Progressvies Change (CPC), who was arrested and released after being quizzed, he added, had undertaken to refund the balance. He said former President Goodluck Jonathan would not be invited over the $2.1billion arsm deals because memos and documents on the disbursement of the money were not approved for political campaigns. Magu explained that former Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) Patrick Akpobolokemi was re-arrested by EFCC operatives outside the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, after it was found that he was involved in an alleged embezzlement of N34.5 billion and N600 million in the maritime agency. He was said to have jumped bail and the lawyer who stood surety for him was arrested. Speaking on why EFCC cases get stuck, Magu blamed lawyers, saying: “When a politician steals N10 billion, he keeps N5 billion for litigation. He hires Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs). Judges accuse us of not conducting thorough investigation in order to compromise.” Also yesterday, a former minister, Chief Jim Nwobodo, explained how he disbursed the N100 million he received from former PDP National Chairman Adamu Mu’azu, whose wherabouts the EFCC does not know. He denied ever collecting money from Col. Sambo Dasuki who he said he had never met. Nwobodo, who spoke exclusively with our correspondent, said: “I have never met Dasuki in my life. I don’t know Dasuki. Ex-Minister Bashir Yuguda I know, just as a former minister like any Nigerian. “I got N100million for campaign purposes and not N500million. I did not receive the money from either Dasuki or Yuguda. The money I received was from a former National Chairman of PDP, Adamu Muazu. I gave the list of the disbursement according to states to the party. A statement by John Okoreni on behalf of Nwobodo said: “The attention of Senator (Dr.) Jim Nwobodo has been drawn to news items where it was mentioned that he received the sum of one hundred million naira (N100,000,000) from Bashir Yuguda, ex-Minister of State for Finance for the purpose of the last presidential election. “ Senator (Dr.) Jim Nwobodo states as follows: That he was the chairman of the Contact Committee of the PDP Presidential campaign for the South East Zone “The Committee was appointed by the party and inaugurated by its then National Chairman, Dr. Adamu Mu’azu “That the Committee oversaw the five states of the Zone, namely: Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo State “Members of the Committee were three for each state; Senator Jim Nwobodo, Chairman (Enugu), Chief Onyema Ogochukwu, Secretary (Abia), Ambassador Ojo Maduekwe (Abia), Senator Adolphus Wabara (Abia), Prof. A.B.C. Nwosu (Anambra), Senator Ben Ndi Obi (Anambra), Senator Joy Emodi (Anambra), Ambassador Frank Ogbuweu (Ebonyi), Senator Ben Collins Ndu (Enugu), Ambassador Fidel Ayogu (Enugu), Chief Emmanuel Iwanyanwu (Imo), Chief Achike Udenwa (Imo) and Chief Innocent Nwoga (Imo). “That the only fund received by the committee for its work in the five South-Eastern states was N100million and the money was received from the then National Chairman of PDP, Dr. Adamu Muazu, for logistics, travelling, mobilisation of party members in the zone for the presidential election. “That the fund was properly disbursed to the states and duly signed by members of the Committee for each State and accounted for to the party. “That at no time did Senator Jim Nwobodo receive the money from any person other than the then National Chairman of the party. “That it would be unusual for Senator Nwobodo and other members of his committee to query the source of the campaign fund coming from the National Chairman of his party for official functions and purposes. “This statement is meant to put the records straight and correct the impression making round in the media on the alleged distribution of money by Bashir Yuguda as it concerns Senator Nwobodo. A governorship aspirant on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in this year’s election in Edo State, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, has denied allegations that he shared rice meant for the presidential campaign of former President Goodluck Jonathan in the state as his Christmas gift to Edo people. In a statement in Benin, yesterday, he said, “For the records, Dr. Jonathan or PDP never brought rice to distribute for the presidential election in Edo State, so it is impossible to comptemplate its being diverted. “It was Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria, TAN, a support group for the then President, that sent some 5kg bags of rice which were given to the party leadership to distribute and were never given to me as state coordinator. “The rice I shared during the last Christmas was in 50kg, 25kg, 10kg and 2kg bags respectively. The 2kg bags which had the inscription of PDP and operation feed Nigeria was produced by a friend and his phone number is boldly written on the bags. He gave me these bags free of charge to give to as many people as possible as gift during Christmas. “I stuck my stickers on the bags after bagging them to enable the recipients know where the rice came from and I thank God for all those who supported me to achieve this gesture of love in a state that has been plundered by those who promised to abolish poverty. “I challenge those who persist in lies and character assassination to call the phone number on the back of the 2kg bags and confirm the producer of these bags. Common sense which is lacking in the life of political thieves could have revealed that rice stored for over a year would be prey to weevils and clearly not suitable for human consumption.” He accused those he called political hirelings of attempting to cast aspersions on the integrity of his person by falsely accusing him of diverting rice meant for the presidential campaign of Dr. Jonathan and distributing same as his own Christmas gift to Edo people. “This baseless allegation, which is absurd, was quickly refuted by the leadership of PDP in Edo State as untrue. That emphatic statement ought to have cleared the matter but clueless detractors desperate to earn their pay stuck to their mischief and insisted that their allegation must be investigated,” he said.
