captainprogress:Atiku man. Is it PMB that's in charge of Osun, Kogi and other state yet to pay salaries? Just asking sir |
Femi Makinde, Osogbo Workers in Osun State have declared their intention to begin an indefinite strike following the refusal of the state government to revert to paying them full salary and arrears despite the receipt of the third tranche of N6.3 billion Paris Club loan refund. The workers under the umbrella of the Osun State Joint Public Service Negotiating Council gave the strike notice in a statement issued on Friday following an emergency meeting of labour leaders on Thursday. The notice of strike was signed by the Chairman JPSNC, Bayo Adejumo; Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress, Tunde Adekomi and the Trade Union Congress Chairman, Bowale Adekola and leaders of various affiliate unions. The notice read in part, “Consequent upon the refusal of the government of Osun State to accede to the demands of the workers and pensioners as contained in our letter of Tuesday, December 5, 2017, the workers of Osun State will be proceeding on an indefinite strike by 27th December , 2017.” The labour leaders enjoined the workers to stay at home until they received another directive from them concerning the strike. The labour leaders had on Tuesday disagreed with Governor Rauf Aregbesola over his insistence on paying November salary with the modulated scheme which makes workers from grade level 08 and above collect between 75 and 50 per cent of their salaries. The workers had insisted that the state had the financial ability to pay them full salaries, saying most of them had been collecting half salaries since September 2015. But the governor in a statement issued by his Commissioner for Information, Mr. Adelani Baderinwa, pleaded that they should exercise more patience till the state was able to revert to paying full salary. The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, has charged the newly elected members of the National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party to ensure transparent and credible primaries ahead of the 2019 general election. According to Ekweremadu, the PDP must return power to the people, as our name and slogan rightly demand of us He blamed the party’s defeat in the 2015 general election on lack of internal democracy that manifested in the forms of the imposition of candidates and disregard for the party’s constitution. Ekweremadu stated this in a keynote address he delivered at the opening of a two-day retreat for the National Working Committee and state chairmen of the PDP in Abuja on Tuesday. He said, “Another election year is by the corner. The new NWC must ensure that the party does not repeat past mistakes. We must return power to the people, as our name and slogan rightly demand of us. “This will not only reassure Nigerians that we are indeed an improved and rebranded PDP, but will also encourage the massive return of former party faithful. “Furthermore, the public will evaluate our commitment to end corruption and promote accountability and transparency by the way we handle internal party affairs. “We have a history of fighting corruption and our systems must be corruption-free. This should stand us out as the only hope to eradicate corruption in Nigeria. The PDP established the Independent Corrupt Practices and Related Offences Commission, and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. “We saw to the enactment of the Freedom of Information Act and introduction of the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System, Treasury Single Account, and the Biometric Verification Number. The PDP also ensured that the Civil Society Organisations and the press flourished to promote an accountable and open society. “There was no effort by the PDP to tame the Non-Governmental organisations or the use of the social media. Importantly, we beamed the anti-graft searchlight on our own members to demonstrate that there must be no sacred cows in the war against graft. “Therefore, we must conduct our affairs in a way that reassure Nigerians that under the incoming PDP administration, we will not only consolidate on all these track records, but will also firmly eradicate corruption from 2019”. The senator also warned against any form of undue interferences by the NWC in the affairs of the state chapters of the party. http://punchng.com/we-must-return-power-to-the-people-ekweremadu-charges-pdp-nwc/ |
