I hope DSS is not making me to believe what Fayose has been calling them sha. Allow EFCC to do their work. Nobody is above arrest. |
Eniola Akinkuotu, Abuja Drama is currently playing out at the home of a former Director-General of the Department of State Services, Ekpenyong Ita, as men of the DSS are preventing operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission from arresting him. Our correspondent who is also at the scene, reports that EFCC operatives arrived at the scene around 11am with an arrest warrant. The EFCC officials and armed policemen numbering over 50 attempted to enter the premises located at 46 Mamman Nasir Street, Asokoro but the heavily armed DSS officials, some of which are wearing masks, refused to allow the EFCC men inside. The DSS officials simply said they were acting on “orders from above”. Ita has been under investigation for his alleged role in the disbursement of funds meant for arms. While a former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (Retd.) and other service chiefs have been arraigned, the DSS has refused to release its own officials for probe. The DSS and the EFCC have been at loggerheads for over a year which culminated in the DSS sending a report to the Senate not to confirm the acting Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Ibrahim Magu. http://punchng.com/breaking-dss-bars-efcc-from-arresting-ex-dg/

Kamarudeen Ogundele, Ado-Ekiti Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has said one of his greatest wishes on his 57th birthday was to have woken up in the morning to receive a congratulatory message from President Muhammadu Buhari or read such message in the media. He said he expected the president as the father of the nation to call him first as a governor and a leading opposition figure. Fayose spoke to journalists at the Government’s House in Ado-Ekiti. “My wishes on my 57th birthday as Ayo Fayose are many but one of them which will interest you is that I wish President Buhari’s congratulatory call would have woken me up today as one of the governors in the country and as a leading opposition figure in the country: a fearless young man who believes that things should be done rightly. “I expect the president to show himself as a father of all, preaching that we must extend love to everybody – not only those in his political party. “The president would have made a difference if he had extended such gesture to others beyond his political party. Such a congratulatory message should have been conveyed through his Minister of Information (Lai Muhammad). I would have loved to either wake up receiving a congratulatory call from him or read it in the papers. But since it is not coming, it is not a big deal to me and I take no offence on it.” Fayose said he deserved commendation from Buhari because he was contributing to the vibrancy of democracy being the opposition figure. “I am not Buhari’s enemy. Opposition is the strength of democracy, it ensures that the electorate get value for their votes. Those who criticise your government are not your enemies, they are catalysts to your growth as a government.” The governor stated that he would celebrate his birthday with artisans, Okada riders, market women and men, and people on the streets. Ade Adesomoju, Abuja The Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday fixed January 17, 2018, for ruling on the application by the Indigenous People of Biafra challenging the order of proscription made by the court on September 20, 2017. The Acting Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Abdu Kafarati, had on September 20, 2017, issued the proscription order upon an ex parte application by the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami (SAN). But, in a motion filed before the same judge on September 22, the group, through its lead counsel, Mr. Ifeanyi Ejiofor, contended that the proscription order was unconstitutional adding that it was obtained by the AGF by suppressing vital facts. IPOB’s motion canvassed 13 grounds in opposition to the order proscribing it and also designating it a terrorist organisation. Justice Kafarati fixed January 17 for judgement after hearing Ejiofor and the Federal Government’s legal team led by the Solicitor-General of the Federation and Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Justice, Mr. Dayo Apata, on Tuesday. Scores of traders who were relocated to Industrial Cluster, Naze, after the demolition of Owerri main market by the state government, on Monday barricaded the Imo State Government House, Owerri, in protest. The embittered traders who blocked the main gate to teh government house caused panic in the area. They vowed not to vacate the entry gate until Governor Rochas Okorocha address them. Brandishing various placards and singing songs of solidarity, security men at the Government House, some of who bore arms, tried in vain to control the traders so as to allow free flow of traffic in and out of the compound. Addressing journalists, two of the protesting traders who identified themselves as John Okeke and Ebere Ndu, said the government sent them to the industrial market without first ensuring the success of their activities. Okeke said, “The government just sent us to the Naze Industrial Cluster, but we are suffering there. “Hunger is killing most of us, as our perishable goods rot away because nobody comes to buy from us and our welfare is not guaranteed.” The traders said part of their grievances was that while the governor demolished Owerri main market and insisted that they move to the new site, the state government still allowed other traders to continue trading in the demolished market. “They asked us to move to industrial cluster, we obeyed; but they allowed others to continue trading there. “As I speak to you, there is trading at the demolished Owerri main market, including street trading along the Douglas road. “It wasn’t part of our bargain with the government,” Okeke said. Ndu complained that the development was affecting them, adding that people prefer to make purchases at the demolished Owerri main market because it is closer to the town than coming to the new site at Naze. ” our goods spoil in our hands. It costs us great losses because there are no patronages from people because where we are staying now is a bit far from town.As long as the government encourages street trading and at the demolished Owerri main market, we will not be making sells”.Ndu said. The traders said that the were at the government House to ensure that the Governor orders that every trading would only be allowed at the new site. As of the time of filing this report ,no government official had officially addressed the protesters ,even as the traders continued to take hold of the government House main gate ,causing motorists to take alternative route or get stock.
