17min: A break in the pattern as Kanté’s run breaks the lines and is almost found by David Luiz. Chelsea have a corner instead, which Willian takes, finding Pedro for the near post flick. David Luiz almost arrives on time at the far post to head that in, but only he himself ends up in the net as the ball goes wide.

15min: Chelsea up against the massed ranks of Leicester, don’t seem to have a clear idea of how to break it down. Kovačić has a go from range after a strong layoff from Pedro, but it’s well high.

14min: Kovačić wins Chelsea a corner. Willian takes, and hits it into the side netting on the near post.

11min: Chilwell and Vardy combine well on the left side but a combination of David Luiz, Rudiger, and Kepa clear the lines. Leicester have it back however and win a corner with a blocked cross from the right. 9min: Chelsea move the ball around in the final third but without getting into the penalty area. Azpilicueta’s cross is blocked and Leicester come forward. But Rüdiger intercepts well and gets Chelsea moving forward once again.

5min: Pedro’s cross-field ball is cut out, but Alonso recovers. Chelsea having a bit of early trouble stringing passes together, but Jorginho then wins a free kick in a promising position by getting pushed over by Maddison.

2min: Hazard’s introduced to the game by Wes Morgan’s solid frame, then David Luiz nearly picks out Willian with a ball over the top.

Engineer David Nweze Umahi is making remarkable strides in the development agenda of a state known for its rich salt deposits. In his less than four years as the chief executive of the state, he has turned the once rural Ebonyi communities into beehives of activities especially in the areas of agriculture and infrastructure. For his indelible footprints in the administration of Ebonyi State, Governor Dave Umahi is LEADERSHIP Governor of the Year 2018.

Governor Dave Umahi has, within three years in office, transformed the state into one of the fastest-growing states in the country. This is even more poignant when it is considered that Umahi came on board as the nation was tottering on the brink of economic recession. Invariably, it was no surprise that, within that period, revenue from the federal allocation accruing to the state nosedived from N6–9 billion before 2015 to N2.3bn–N3.5bn.


This was barely enough to pay the wage bill, including pensions and gratuities. Not given to excuses, the engineer-turned-politician has been able to husband the available meagre resources judiciously to be able to record the kind of impact his people, friends and even his adversaries are celebrating and which, deservedly, attracted the attention of this newspaper.

The achievements so far made by the Umahi administration have continued to earn for him accolades from far and near. President Muhammadu Buhari, during his state visit to Ebonyi to commission some of these projects, lauded the achievements of the state governor.

For anyone who knew Ebonyi State and in particular its capital Abakaliki, the transformation under Umahi can only be described as breath-taking. He adopted the policy of inclusive politics, which has made it possible for him to carry everyone along and has ensured the state experiences integrated development. This strategy has yielded tremendous gains. As the education sector is receiving attention, so is the health sector as well as all other sectors in different zones of the state.

He had, on assumption of office, assured that the new roads his administration would embark on would be dependable and durable. When he introduced the concrete pavement road construction in the state, relying on his experience as an engineer, many did not understand where he was coming from. But, today, many states go to Ebonyi to copy and seek professional advice on how to go about the construction of the concrete rigid pavement roads with a 50-year lifespan.

So far, the state government has built three 700-metre twin flyover bridges at Akanu Ibiam Roundabout, Offia Nwali Junction as well as the International Market bypass and a pedestrian bridge at Ebonyi State University permanent site gate. All the bridges are strategically located along the African Trans-Sahara Highway.

Apart from the bridges which have given the state capital a different outlook, the Umahi administration has also constructed numerous roads in the state. Some of the roads and bridges constructed within this time include: Onueke—Ezzama—Oshiri–Onicha road, 35km; Obiozara–Onicha road, 8.3km; Uburu–Presbyterian Church road,12km; Umuchima road, 7.5km; Okposi road, 23km, Akaeze–Ivo road,15km; a section of Abakaliki–Afikpo federal highway, 14.5km; Abakaliki internal roads, 150km, with one major bridge; 7 bridges along Nkalagu–Ehamufu road,15km; Abaomege—Ukawu—Ugwulangwu–Okposi federal road, 25km; and Abaomege Ukawu bridge.
In the education sector, the state government, on assumption of office, paid all its counterpart funds to the Universal Basic Education Board and has accessed all the funds accruing to it, which it channelled to critical areas in the education sector.

The state also procured and distributed 20,000 pieces of two-seater classroom furniture. At least 190 schools have been renovated while model primary and junior secondary schools have been constructed. Information communication technology infrastructure has been constructed and e-learning programmes will soon come on stream in junior and senior secondary schools in the state.
It is on record that the laudable achievements of Gov Umahi culminated in Ebonyi State attaining the 10th position in WAEC/NECO results in 2016 and 2017, and retaining the position in 2018 – an unprecedented achievement in the over two-decade history of the state. Also, the Ebonyi State College of Education, Ikwo, has been affiliated to Ebonyi State University through the National Universities Commission; with this, the college is now a degree-awarding institution.

In the area of agriculture, Ebonyi State is reaping bountifully from the federal government’s ban on the importation of rice, as it has made farming a profitable venture in the state. He latched on to the rice revolution spearheaded by the Central Bank of Nigeria through the Anchor Borrowers Scheme. Ebonyi Rice has become a household name in every family, and the state governor has received presidential encomium and won prestigious awards from many reputable institutions across the country.
The Umahi administration introduced a unique agriculture programme targeted at making farming attractive to young people in particular. This has weaned many youths away from unemployment and crime.

In the health sector, the state government under Governor Umahi constructed and equipped the much-celebrated Virology Centre and Chest Clinic located at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki. The state government has also embarked on the renovation and equipping of 13 general hospitals in the state.
Governor Umahi has appropriated the sum of N2.036 billion for the financial empowerment of 10,526 Ebonyi people, especially widows. Six persons received N1 million each; 6,520 beneficiaries got N200, 000 each while 4,000 widows received N100, 000 each. The beneficiaries cut across unemployed graduates and non-graduates — youths, men, women, widows, and indigent Ebonyi citizens in Lagos.
The sum of N263.2 million was used to acquire 400 tricycles which were distributed free to deserving Ebonyi people at home and outside. The state government, in partnership with the Bank of Industry, has made an N8 billion loan facility available to civil servants and Ebonyi intending entrepreneurs at single-digit interest rate for the establishment of agro-based industries in Ebonyi State.

The most striking quality of His Excellency Engr. David Nweze Umahi, right from the cradle to his current midlife status, is that he neither takes the easy path nor casually marches to whichever destination the path may lead; instead, he beats his own path and leaves a historical trail, regardless of the walls or obstacles that are erected before him or around him.

Governor Umahi attended Umunaga Primary School, Uburu, from 1971 to 1977 where he excelled with a Distinction in the First School Leaving Certificate Examination. Upon completion of his primary education, he proceeded to Ishiagu High School from 1978 to 1979. He completed his secondary education at the prestigious Government College, Afikpo, which he attended from 1979 to 1982, and sustained his academic brilliance by gaining Division One in the West African School Certificate Examination, accumulating ‘As’ in science subjects.

Umahi gained a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Anambra State University of Science and Technology in 1987.

Engr. Umahi’s foray into public/political arena started in 2007 when he became the acting state Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (Ebonyi State). In 2009, he was made the substantive Chairman of the party. He transformed the Ebonyi State PDP from an organisation troubled by high-profile political and administrative disputes, defections and rancour into a highly effective political machine.

A 28-year-old lady has reportedly confessed to sleeping with pastors and prophets, as part of a ritual to get money, wrecking marriages and churches in process.

The Zimbabwean woman identified as Sithabisile Mathema who was in the habit of falling in love with pastors and prophets so as to wreck their ministries and marriages has been left with egg on her face after she was exposed at a church service.

Popular prophet Signature real name Emmanuel Gwandida called her out exposing her before the congregation.

” I have fallen in love with more than 50 pastors and they have tasted my thing,” said Mathema. ” I got a charm from a traditional healer in South Africa and I was instructed to sleep with men of the cloth, after that I would make money,”she said.

The congregants were left in awe after her confession that many churches and marriages had come to an end under her hand. Mathema went on to say that the when the pastor would sleep with her, his marriage or church would start crumbling.

”I can tell you that after I sleep with a pastor his church would start to face challenges leading to it to break up. Morever he would start to have marital problems and in the most cases his marriage would collapse,” she said.

Mathema said that she had been contemplating quitting for some time and was grateful that she had been delivered from the scourge.

Kidnappers abduct Senator Gershom Bassey’s aide in Calabar

Some gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted the Personal Assistant (PA) to Senator Gershom Bassey, Mr. Simon Umera.

Senator Gershom Bassey is the current flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Cross River Southern Senatorial District.

Mr Umera was kidnapped on Thursday night at Jebbs area in Calabar South local government area of Cross River State.

According to an eyewitness, Mr Ekeng Inyang, Umera was shot by the kidnappers before he was later taken into a speed boat same night.

“The incident happened on Thursday night in his home at Jebbs. He was shot by the kidnappers and forced into a speed boat through the Anantigha waters,” he said.

When contacted on phone on Friday, Senator Gershom Bassey confirmed the abduction and assured the friends and family of his personal assistant of his release.

“Mr Umera would be rescued from the hands of the abductors despite their demand of a ransom of 10 million naira before he can released,” he said.

All efforts to get reaction from the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Ms Irene Ugbo proved abortive. She did not pick calls from our correspondent nor respond to text message sent to her.

Members of the indigenous people of  in Trans-Ekulu  Enugu state carried out a practical trading using Biafra currencies.

Ebonyi Daily News learnt that the currency spent in the defunct Republic of Biafra during the Nigerian civil war (1967-70), Biafran Pound, has surreptitiously crept into the currency market, serving as the legal tender in some communities along the West African coast.

Ebonyi Daily News gathered  that the money is being spent in the border town between Togo and Republic of Benin, while some currency hawkers also exchange it for the naira and other currencies in the border town between Ghana and Togo.

One Biafran pound still bears the signature of Dr. Syvelster Ugo, the then Governor of the Central Bank of the defunct Biafran Republic and the picture of a palm tree. Its back has the coat of arms of the republic with the inscription: “peace, unity and freedom.

What is, however, baffling about the currency is that it has more value than the Nigerian naira and it is openly accepted as a legal tender in the affected communities.

Commercial sex workers in Abraka community in Delta State on Monday blamed the current low patronage in their sex trade on the crack down on ritualists including ‘Yahoo, Yahoo boys’ in the state by the police.



The prostitutes, numbering over 30 from two well known brothels in the area, took to various streets in the early hours in skimpy dresses that barely cover their nudity, chanting sorrowful songs mainly in Ibo language, regretting that since the ongoing crack down on ‘Yahoo, Yahoo boys’ and ritualists by the police, things have not been the same in terms of the patronage they get.

The protesting prostitutes said, “The police have brought bad market for us. We no longer get patronage as we used to get in Abraka community when Yahoo, Yahoo boys were in charge. Hunger is now treating us very bad, the Yahoo, Yahoo boys pay very well better than others. They have stopped coming to our hotels, we are now suffering”.

One of the commercial sex workers, Angela Chioma, who spoke to newsmen in the area, said, “business has died in Abraka community where we used to make money, a whole day nobody comes. Our powerful customers have been driven away by the police. It is the Yahoo, Yahoo boys that used to patronize us very well.

“They pay well and don’t ask for change. Every day, we will seat down without a customer, things are very rough for us. We shall soon relocate to elsewhere, some of us are not from Delta State”.

“To make matters worse, even when we call them, they don’t pick calls and any of them who picks will issue stern warning not to call them again”.

But the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Andrew Aniamaka, who spoke to newsmen in Asaba, said, “the police will not relent in doing its job.

The police will ensure all the Yahoo, Yahoo boys are brought to book across the state. Even the brothels, the police will soon embark on operation raid all the brothels and hotels across the state, the Yahoo, Yahoo boys are gradually relocating to elsewhere, it’s a plus for the police since the crack down on them”.

Drivers Scramble To Grab ‘100 Million Naira’ After Bullion Van Spills Money



It was an exciting afternoon in New Jersey when drivers exited their vehicles and jostled one another to grab some cash after a bullion van accidentally spilled money on the highway and now, police say nearly $300,000 (over one hundred million Naira) is missing.



Police say the investigation determined that two plastic bags containing $140,000 and $370,000, respectively, had fallen through the open door of the bullion van onto the roadway, causing the bags to open, reports ABC7. The vehicle traffic along with the windy weather conditions caused the currency to become airborne and scatter across the highway.

Passing motorists stopped to gather money, while others began to assist the personnel inside the bullion van. Officials said they were only able to recover $205,375 from the highway. Later, five individuals either contacted the East Rutherford Police Department or another police agency, which led to the recovery of an additional $11,090. Which means that $293,535 is still missing.



The East Rutherford Police Department is continuing to investigate the incident and is requesting any person with video images to contact the East Rutherford Police Department at 201-438-0165. The department is also advising people who have money connected to this incident to call to make arrangements for its return with no charges filed.

“It’s theft of mislaid property,” East Rutherford police Detective Lieutenant Mike Gianscaspro said. “So we’re not looking to charge anybody, we’re just looking to get the money back.

Most Dreaded IPOB Security Guard Gunned Down By Army

A well known vigilante member has died and been laid to rest after being shot in Umuahia, Abia state.


It was gathered that the deceased identified as Bright Nwoye popularly known as Scorpion, was the second in command of Anambra state vigilante group (AVG) and also a member of the “Lion Squad” of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in Anambra.

He was said to have been hit by a stray bullet from soldiers during the recent Jewish protest staged by IPOB members in Umuahia, Abia state capital.


He reportedly came back from the rally four days ago with a bullet injury day and later passed away on Thursday.

The deceased has been laid to rest in his home town in Ikwo, Ebonyi state..

A trigger-happy policeman stills walks free after shattering a traveller’s leg with live bullet on East-West road, Rumuge area of Port Harcourt.

A witness said they were travelling to Lagos when said officer flagged their bus for checks.

In the ensuing argument, the officer who hasn’t been identified by name, shot one of the unarmed travellers in the leg for daring to question him.

“A police man stopped our bus asking for drivers license from our driver which he gave him,” the witness, Godwin said.

“After that, he requested for tinted permit then the driver told him that the car is a company car and that the copy of the permit was not with him.

“We all came down pleading with him to let us go, but he bluntly refused.

“On seeing us, another of same company bus stopped to ask his colleague what the issue was alongside with some passengers, the next thing was that the policeman opened fire on the leg of this young man who was also presumed to be a force man just because he demanded an explanation on why we were unjustly delayed.”

Since the video of the incident went viral on social media, the Nigerian police authorities have yet to publicly denounce the officer’s action nor identify him for proper investigation

The leadership of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Tuesday threatens to unleash hell on Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu if he fails to release its members arrested by the state Police Command.

IPOB warned that if Ikpeazu and the state Commissioner of Police failed to ensure the release of its members, they would “live to regret what will come upon them.”


The threat by the secessionist group was contained in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful.

IPOB warned that both the governor and the State Commissioner of Police should be prepared.
The statement reads, “We are warning Abia state police commissioner to release them, the 54 innocent citizens of Biafra who were doing peaceful evangelism in Umuahia for Biafra freedom. We blame Okezie Ikpeazu and Abia police commissioner for the damage this action may cause in Abia state if they fail to release these innocent Jewish worshipers exercising their rights.

“Okezie Ikpeazu and police commissioner must release those arrested without further delay or they will live to regret what will come upon them soon.

“We must not fail to warn police commissioner and Okezie Ikpeazu once again if they fail to release these innocent citizens who committed no crime against anybody or Nigeria state, that means they should prepare and wait for IPOB action.

“We are coming on Nigeria police soon because you cannot continue killing and intimidating innocent and unarmed IPOB faithful and go Scot free. We promise to remain peaceful in every of our approach asking Nigerian government never push IPOB to pick up arms against anybody because it won’t be good to all and sundry in Nigeria.”

It was gathered that the couple, who is based in Benin City, Edo State, were reportedly invited to Ibadan by her step-father for a discussion over a misunderstanding between them, which was amicably settled.

A source disclosed that after the intervention of the step-father, the woman was said to have lodged at a hotel for the night because her husband had other engagements in town.

However, trouble started when the husband, Dickson, who had checked on her early in the morning, allegedly caught her in the act of lesbianism.

Angry Dickson reportedly pounced on his wife and beat her to stupor.

It was the noise of the woman that woke up the people in the area, who expressed surprise when they got the hint of what led to the scuffle.

The battered woman, who denied the allegation, reportedly went to Iddo Police Station to lodge complaints before going to a nearby private hospital for treatment.

Recently also a suspected lesbian, Dasola Aliu was caught in the act but escaped from police custody in Lagos on the 11th of March, 2018.

Dasola a native of Ibadan, Oyo state and her partner were arrested in connection with lesbianism.
in the course of the investigation, she fell ill.

She was supposed to be transferred to the Gender Section of the police command but for her ill state of health, she was taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.

It was reported that she was brought back to the station after her treatment.

The policemen on duty slept off and negligently forgot to lock the suspect up inside a cell.

Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), have formally adopted a former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as its presidential candidate in the 2019 election.


Chairman of the coalition and a former Governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, said this on Wednesday in Abuja at the opening of a meeting of the national chairmen of the parties involved.

He recalled that the coalition at the inauguration of its steering committee was saddled with the responsibility of selecting a joint presidential candidate for the coalition.

“In furtherance of this objective, therefore, the steering committee invited all political parties in the coalition to forward to us memoranda detailing their suggested ideas on how the candidate of the coalition should emerge and the criteria to use.

“The response was very impressive and rich. The steering committee, which as you all know, has every coalition party represented in it, distilled the suggestions, the aggregate of which was used to arrive at the result,” he said.

He listed the criteria used in the selection process as national acceptability of candidate and party, strength of the structure of candidate and party across the country; competitiveness of the candidate’s party as against the APC candidate, President Muhammadu Buhari and financial strength of candidate and party.

CUPP comprises the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and 45 other opposition parties.

The unannounced protest staged by the Indigenous people of Biafra on Friday in Enugu and Anambra have been marred with violence particularly Anambra as police man and IPOB member was killed during a fierce clash. IGBERE TV can now report.



IGBERE TV learnt that trouble started as combined team of security agents, comprising Joint Task Force (JTF) allegedly fired shots at the protesters, killing an undisclosed number of members of the group.

IGBERE TV gathered that the protesters had, as early as 11am, converged at Nnewi, Anambra state, from where they usually march to other areas of the city when security agents swooped on them.

In what appears like a reprisal attack, IPOB members outnumbered some police men and lynched one to death while the divisional police officer who lead the team narrowly escaped death.



IGBERE TV learnt that the incident occurred as IPOB members where sensitising the people about the need for a referendum to determine a sovereign state of Biafra and rejection of the 2019 general elections.


As at the time of filling this report, no actual number of those killed by both side has been recorded but unverified report says atleast 5 IPOB and One Policeman have so been confirmed dead.

Report reaching IGBERE TV says The leader of Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Sheikh Ibrahim El Zakzaky and his wife, have arrived Kaduna State High Court Amidst heavy tight security.

IGBERE TV learnt court will today rule on the bail application filed by their counsel.

The Shiite leader is facing trial over allegations of culpable homicide, unlawful assembly, and disruption of public peace, among other charges.

El-Zakzaky and his wife were first arraigned on May 15, 2018, following their arrest in Zaria, in December 2015.

When the matter came up for hearing on October 4, 2018, the presiding judge, Justice Gideon Kurada adjourned his ruling on their bail application to November 7, 2018 due to the absence of the IMN leader and his wife in court as a result of the visit of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to the state on that date.

The judge however fixed today for the ruling following the written application filed by El-Zakzaky’s counsel during the last sitting on August 2, 2018.

Meanwhile, the Kaduna State Police Command has restricted movement in Kaduna metropolis over the trial today.

The police warned that the ban on all forms of demonstration or processions is still in full force and called on Kaduna residents to beware of their movement

It is no longer a rumour that Chief Anthony Anenih a chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party known as “Mr. Fix-It,” passed on Last week at the age  of eighty five  years.

A veteran of various political parties since the early 1980s, President Olusegun Obasanjo appointed him Minister for Works in his first term. He subsequently served twice as the chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, and of the Board of the Nigeria Ports Authority.

His passing was followed by a heavy avalanche of tributes as frontline politicians praised the Edo State-born politician. Among others, President Muhammadu Buhari, former Presidents Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, and PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar called him a “patriot.”

He was a political colossus and a PDP hero and legend. But he was not a patriot by any stretch of the imagination.

But Buhari extolled him as a “frontline figure” in Nigeria’s political history.

Obasanjo called him “…a national icon and authentic role model…a patriot and a nationalist of no mean order…” Jonathan said Anenih’s name “would continue to appear in gold whenever the history of this country is being rewritten.”

As a culture, we do not speak ill of the dead. Well, we ought never to speak blatant falsehood before God either or betray the living through flagrant hypocrisy. Anenih was clearly and particularly a PDP figure. He was a cold-blooded PDP-partisan who saw Nigeria through the eyes of his party; he never saw PDP through the eyes of Nigeria.

A patriot loves, asserts and defends his or her country passionately; Anenih’s passion was the PDP, right or wrong. To pronounce him a patriot insults both the term and Nigeria.

Did Anenih advocate an overriding public vision of Nigeria; if so, when, and what was it? What was his passion concerning uplifting Nigeria? What moved him to tears and what did he do about

Whom did he offend publicly in affirming right over wrong, ours over mine, day over night? Did he champion the cause of clean drinking water for every Nigerian…free and fair elections, free education or healthcare? Did he advocate libraries in towns and villages or opportunities for the gifted?

Was his combat in connection with maternal and child deaths nationwide?

Through 16 years and three presidencies during which Anenih was one of the top figures, the PDP brand was of political brigandage, ethical arson and administrative incompetence. Murder, looting and injustice ran the day.

Where was Anenih? He is not on record anywhere as speaking up for Nigeria publicly, as patriots do; or as working courageously for the national cause, as patriots do.

In fact, in the one matter in which he was directly involved, he admitted receiving N126 billion—not N300 billion—in four years as Minister of Works, as though N126bn were akara change. He never identified one good road nationwide for which he was responsible.

That was at the federal level. Through the 16 PDP locust years, Anenih was also the Chris Uba—or the Jagaban, if you like—of Edo State politics.

That was why, after former Labour leader Adams Oshiomhole slipped past him through the judiciary into the Edo governorship in November 2007, he made it Job One to yank out the fangs of the Edo State godfather. And that is why Oshiomhole called the 2015 presidential election in the state “a referendum between the godfathers and the great people” of Edo, and celebrated mightily when PDP was worsted.

That is the same language he employed when he declared in an open PDP meeting in July 2004 that there was no vacancy in Aso Rock and that President Obasanjo would determine his successor. Obasanjo did.Anenih enjoyed being “Mr. Fix It.” But ‘fixing’ and ‘fixers’ are crime—usually mafia—references to operatives who use extralegal means to control or even eliminate opponents of an opposing family or a boss, or who “clean up” after terrible crimes.

Of top Nigerians claiming Anenih was a patriot who “fixed” problems, the suggestion is that he untangled problems in the national interest, but none of them could name one such national issue or resolution, or how it made Nigeria better.

In other words, if indeed Anenih had any such gifts, it was to enhance the rampage of the PDP, which means he was a key contributor to the mess of 1999-2015.

Speaking of 2015, it also turned out that Anenih was a beneficiary of the infamous ONSA, with one of the counts against Col. Sambo Dasuki being that he transferred N260 million “…to the bank account of Tony Anenih with First Bank of Nigeria Plc…”

Speaking at a Benin City rally of the APC in December 2015, Oshiomhole scoffed: “Even at old age, (Anenih) collected N260 million.”

Anenih may have inspired the PDP as a criminal enterprise that broke all the rules of democracy, he didn’t illuminate or advance Nigeria. In Anenih’s PDP, Nigeria became the epicenter of human greed and official impunity and duplicity. In it, success was measured in what you could corner for yourself, no matter how many children were left starving to death.

Intrigues As Atiku Hunts For V.P That Will Trounce Buhari

With the conclusion of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Convention and the emergence of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as the Presidential Candidate of the Party; without wasting much time by the Presidential Candidate and the Leadership Hierarchy of the Party, the search for a well qualified Vice Presidential Candidate in no doubt has begun in earnest ahead of the 2019 General Elections.



After the PDP National Congress in December 2017; and after much politics and the internal crisis that followed with the election of the National Chairman of the Party, Prince Uche Secondus coming from the South South Zone of the Country, it is the view of some political analysts that the position of the Vice Presidential Candidate of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) should be left for either the South East or the South West Zone of the Country to fill.

But more importantly, apart from adopting a zoning formular or arrangement as the yardstick and the criteria to use in selecting a Vice Presidential Candidate, it is the opinion of many that the previous voting pattern in the Country, most especially that of the 2015 General Election which is the most recent one should be used to determine who gets the Vice Presidential ticket of the People's Democratic Party if the party is truly ready to win the 2019 Presidential Election.

In considering the Vice Presidential Candidate for the People's Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2019 General Elections; the National Leadership, the Presidential Candidate of the PDP and other major stakeholder's of the party must consider the margin inbetween the votes scored by each Zone that we have in the Country. Below are the records of the previous votes scored in 2015 by the political parties.

Another factor and question to be considered aside the above is how strong is Alhaji Atiku Abubakar in the three zones of the North namely the North Central Zone, North East Zone and the North West Zone where the incumbent President of the Country, Muhammadu Buhari was able to garnered the majority of the votes that gave him an hedge over the former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and win the 2015 Presidential Election without stress. The current political strength of Atiku Abubakar in these three zones of the North Central, North East and the North West of the Country needs to be considered and analysed so as not to live or rely on the assumption that he is accepted and popular and so that the 2019 Presidential Election will not cut the PDP unawares.

As at the moment, all the six states in the Southwest like Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, Osun and Ekiti States have been taking over by the All Progressive Congress. So, with this development, the chances that the PDP will still retain these Six States of the Southwest Zone as they did in 2015 is unrealistic and uncertain. Instead of the chances of the PDP to look more promising than in 2015, it seems that it is been reduced and been worsened by the day.

If the choice is the South East Zone, there are outstanding candidates such as Senator Ike Ekweremadu, former Governor Peter Obi among others. If Atiku decides to go to the South West, there are ample numbers of candidates for the Vice Presidency. First, it would match APC Vice President, Professor Osinbajo (from Ogun State) and split the votes in the South West. Recent elections in Ekiti and Osun States shows that APC won narrowly or even might have lost.
The possible choices, according to whispers in the political cycles are Alhaji Ladoja of Oyo State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola of Osun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel of Ogun State, Jimi Agbaje of Lagos State, Dr. Segun Mimiko of Ondo State and in the absence of Governor Fayose (Osoko), there is a Professor Adesegun Ojo of Ekiti State.

Starting from Ekiti State, Governor Ayodele Fayose worked against the Turaki, campaigned for Governor Tambuwal and since the primary has been openly talking of decamping from the PDP, and in his usual bombastic self, is not hiding his disdain for the Turaki. That leaves the coast open for Professor Adesegun Ojo, a former Chairman of the Governing Council of Michael Imodu Institute for Labour Studies, who ran for Governor and lost to Fayose in 2003 and had the mandate taken and given to Segun Oni in 2006. A party loyalist who remained in the party since 1999 until earlier in the year. A supporter of Professor Tunde Adeniran for PDP chairman and recently surfaced as a close ally of former President Olusegun Obasanjo. Now an ADC chieftain, and was the Chairman of the Interim Ondo State Executive of the party in August and was responsible for putting the structures of the party in place there and in Ekiti State. His cross State appeal in both Ondo and Ekiti is an asset. A technocrat and Professor of Political Science and International Studies, Ojo is squeaky clean and will be a breath of fresh air. As a protégé of the former President Obasanjo, the Turaki can use his candidacy to appeal to the former President and his supporters.

Another ally of President Obasanjo is the former Governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola. He is the Chairman of the CUPP and has the same recognition and an active member of the Obasanjo progressive movement. He was once a candidate for the chairmanship of the PDP and served as its secretary too. There is Jimi Agbaje from Lagos, who is currently the Governorship Candidate of the PDP in the State. And has the best chance ever to win in Lagos, given the problem of the APC with Governor Ambode. He also contested the PDP Chairmanship in December last year.

There is Otunba Gbenga Daniel (OGD), a former Governor of Ogun State and the Director of the Atiku Presidential Campaign. He is the person to beat for the job. OGD is very popular in the South West and has been campaigning for the Turaki for months now. The former Governor Ladoja of Oyo who recently decamped to the ADC will be a formidable choice from Oyo State. While Dr. Olusegun Mimiko of the Zenith labour Party will quickly jettison his Presidential ambition to pick up the Vice Presidential ticket. A two term Governor of the oil rich State of Ondo and a former Federal Minister, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko round up the choices from the South West.

The next few days are critical and the Turaki’s choice will determine the level of his electoral success in the South West and the South East. This is the election of his life and Alhaji Atiku has been waiting for this opportunity.

Source close to PDP says the visit was aimed at signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in a grand alliance with the former President ahead of the 2019 general elections.

IGBERE TV understands that Obasanjo says he is not backing Atiku’s bid for president because ‘he knows him too well’

Even before he gets a possible PDP nomination for 2019 presidential race, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar’s bid has already hit some heavy bumps and storms.

His former boss, Olusegun Obasanjo said Atiku should never count on him to support his latest bid to actualise his life-long ambition of being elected the president of Nigeria.

IGBERE TV reports earlier how Obasanjo swore he will never support Atiku and the doctor of theology also invoked God to buttress his position:“How can I be on the same side with Atiku?” Mr Obasanjo asked. “To do what?”

“If I support Atiku for anything, God will not forgive me. If I do not know, yes. But once I know, Atiku can never enjoy my support,” he added.
Obasanjo’s pronouncement comes barely two weeks after Mr Abubakar declared his intention to run for president and weeks after a photo-op between him and Obasanjo at an event on China Africa relations, organised by Gusau Institute in Abuja.


I do not have personal grudges with anyone,” Mr Obasanjo said. “If you do not do well for Nigeria, you do not do well for all of us.”

“It is not a question of working with or not working with an individual,” he said. “If you are working for the good of Nigeria, I am working with you. If you are not working for the good of Nigeria it does not matter who you are I am not working with you.”


Most of you do not understand the way I operate,” Mr Obasanjo said. “And I thought your own paper will understand better.”

“I know Atiku very well. And I have mentioned my position with Atiku. My position has not changed,” he said.

On a personal note, he added, “If my children are getting married, he has sent representatives. If his children are getting married, I have sent representatives. That is social. That is not political.
But “on political ground, my position has not changed. If I support Atiku for a political office other than the one I supported him in the past when I did not know him,” maybe, but not “now that I know him, God will not forgive me.”

NO PERMANENT ENEMY IN POLITICS

In politics there is no permanent enemy neither is their permanent friends, what we have in politics is permanent interest. The latest re-conciliatory move from PDP in all indication is likely going to make the former President to “take back his words on Atiku” and throw his unflinching support for his former VP especially now that the ruling party (APC) has drawn a line with Obasanjo and even rumored to open a case file for his probing.

Indeed Obasanjo has nothing to loose by supporting Atiku.

The Former Governor of Abia State, and APC Senatorial aspirant Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu has reacted to rumours that he has been disqualified to contest in the Senatorial race, describing the report as baseless, fake and misleading. Kalu added that the news was sponsored by mischievous elements of the society to cause confusion.

This was contained in a statement issued by Kenneth Udeh, the special adviser on Media to Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu and sent to IGBERE TV. Udeh stressed that the former governor has fully been screened and cleared by the party; and is well qualified to run for senate. He emphasized that that his principal is in high spirit to deliver Abia North from "its long suffering caused by bad leadership over the years."

The statement reads, 

"Our attention has been drawn to the false news being sponsored by mischievous fellows which has dominated the media space in the past few hours that His Excellency Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu has been disqualified from contesting for the Senate"

"We wish to state categorically clear and set the records straight that the news is totally false and lies from the abyss of hell . The news is the usual handiwork of unfortunate political brigands who thrive on peddling falsehoods and blackmail" .

"We are not surprised by the fake news been dispelled because we are aware that the swelling popularity and wide acceptance of the APC as a result of the efforts of Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu has been constant nightmare to the enemies of democracy and good governance"

"They only end up making him more popular with fake news and cheap blackmail .Dr. Orji Kalu is not just a contestant but a committed stakeholder of the All Progressives Congress in the Southeast and the Nation at large".

"For reminders we can all recall the Peace Tours which Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu embarked on to major geopolitical zones of the country in which he showcased the good works of President Buhari and also galvanized more support for the Party and the re-election of Mr. President Muhammadu Buhari come 2019.I can confirm that Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu has been duly screened and found exceedingly qualified to contest. He is in high spirits to rescue the good people of Abia North from years of suffering and Abysmal leadership" .

The statement concluded by advising the Nigerian public and especially the good people of Abia State to disregard the news as their is no iota of truth in it.

Abia Civil Servants Demonstrate, Lay Curses On Ikpeazu Over Non-payment Of 9months Salary.

The staff of Abia State owned University teaching hospital,Aba are currently demonstrating over non-payment of their 9months salary.

The demonstration are been staged Inside the premises of the hospital, IGBERE TV reports.



One of the protesters who acted as a spokesman onbehalf of the demonstrators says the non-payment of their salaries has made life difficult and brought hardship on their families. He laid curses on the government if Governor Okezie Ikpeazu saying that anybody who is instrumental to their plight shall experience worst situation till the fourth generation.

Speaking further, he appealed to all relevant authorities in the state to urgently pay them without further delay.

IGBERE TV learnt that the state government had previously claimed to have paid Abia state civil servants their outstanding salary but the workers debunked these claims and accused the state government of constantly churning out lies to deceive the suffering masses.

"The government will come to radio and speak frivolously claiming to have paid it's worker, but that is a lie, we are suffering, our salary have not been paid" he said.

All efforts to get the reaction of the state government proved abortive as calls to the Abia state Commissioner for Information, John Okiyi Kalu were not picked and sms sent to his phone was not replied.
