Sickle cell is just a monogenic genetic disease, we are working flat out in labs to find gene therapy solution. The other one deaf and dumb, how can your cousin complain? your cousin's deaf and dumb for pete-sake his case is even more complex polygentic disease more than one gene is affected and no drug or prayer can revert that and you better not hope to be like him because just as sickle cell, subjects affected passes the trait from one generation to another, your cousin will pass it on through procreation in the recessive form.
