Zimbabwe's 87-year-old president was diagnosed several years ago and told in 2008 that it could kill him in five years.

Details of his sickness were confirmed in secret US diplomatic cables published by WikiLeaks.

A cable marked "confidential" revealed how former US ambassador to Zimbabwe, James McGee, was told by Gideon Gono, a friend of the dictator and the governor of Zimbabwe's reserve bank.

But Gono denied revealing Mugabe's illness, saying: "It's a lie. I wouldn't dare talk about that."

Mugabe has appeared increasingly frail, making five trips to Singapore this year for treatment.

Weeks before last weekend’s wedding of star actress, Mercy Johnson, many had predicted that the wedding would not hold, and if it does, the shine would be taken off it. Alas! How wrong they were!

The two-day event, which started at the Isashi home of the bride’s parents in Lagos, started late, but it set the tone for what to come, as the event was tastefully executed by Royal Land Marks Events, the company that handled the event on the said day.

With Madam Kofo as MC and the Navy Band providing music, there was no dull moment. The groom’s husband led by the King, who is a cousin of Prince Odi, came in fully attired in Benin traditional regalia.

The wedding train moved to Christ Embassy the following day, Saturday, August 27, while reception took place at 10 Degrees. The reception was star-studded as major stars, including Genevieve Nnaji, Emeka Ike, Jim Iyke, Kenneth Okonkwo, Patience Ozorkwo, Shan George, Mike Ezuruonye, KC, and many others.

Wedding almost cancelled
When news broke that a woman in Canada is laying claim to being Odi’s wife, with two kids, a lot of people advised Mercy to call it quit with the wedding, saying it looked shady. She considered the option for weeks, but came out long before her publicist issued a statement that she would be going ahead with the wedding. If the success of the wedding is anything to go by, she is definitely justified.

Honeymoon
The new couple would be travelling to Malaysia and Dubai for their honeymoon during the week. The groom prefers Dubai, while the bride wants Malaysia. The couple stays in a cozy hotel inside Omole Estate observing what they call “pre-honeymoon” moment.

A NIGERIAN couple, Alhaji Rashid Bello and Fauzia Bello, were yesterday arrested by the Central Regional Police Command in their residence at Amosima near Moree, in the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese (AAK) District of the Central Region, with human parts including two heads.

Though they claimed to be Nigerians, Rashid, 42 and Fauzia, 37, had Ghanaian passports and voter ID cards bearing their names.

Briefing journalists in Cape Coast, the Central Regional Police Commander, Stephen Andoh-Kwofie, disclosed that his outfit stormed the couple’s residence upon a tip-off.

The police learnt that suspected criminals and armed robbers were always trooping into the couple’s residence. DCOP Andoh-Kwofie noted that when his men got to the couple’s residence, they saw two children aged six and seven and were not sure if they were their children or victims.

He added that his men searched the house and realized when they got to the washroom that there was a strong stench emanating from the toilet.

DCOP Andoh Kwofie added that the wife of Alhaji Bello, upon sensing danger, tried to divert the attention of the police by flushing the toilet but she was stopped, and upon inspection, the police found human parts in a bucket covered with a piece of cloth.Alhaji Bello is said to be a renowned herbalist in the area who provides services for numerous people including armed robbers.

When the police arrived at the house with an arrest warrant, Alhaji Bello offered them bribe which they refused.

When the two were arrested and questioned, they confessed to possessing the gory materials and explained that they had lived in Amosima for nine years.

The police commander stated that the victims had not been identified, but the mutilated body parts would be sent to the Central Regional Police Command to determine their sex.

Daily Guide learnt as at press time yesterday that further investigations by the police led to the discovery of another human head.

Blackburn Rovers have completed the signing of Yakubu from Everton on a permanent deal.

The 28-year-old had fallen down the pecking order at Goodison Park after suffering from a serious knee injury, although proved his form and fitness in a loan spell at Leicester City last season, scoring 11 goals in the second half of the campaign.

A bereaved father took justice into his own hands outside of a Moscow region courthouse Tuesday, killing the man suspected of murdering his son two years ago, the Investigative Committee said.

The 54-year-old father fired at least three rounds from a hunting rifle into the 29-year-old suspect's head as he was leaving a courthouse after a hearing in the town of Orekhovo-Zuyevo, the committee said in a statement on its web site.

The gunman was detained immediately, and an investigation has been opened.

The 23-year-old Barbadian singer is claiming that the two-story home she bought in 2009 had multiple defects that the seller did not make her aware of at the time of purchase.

TMZ are reporting that when Rihanna paid millions of dollars for the home she believed she was buying a property in good condition.

But the singer is claiming that the woman who sold her the house lied and knew that there were a lot of problems with the house.

The home is said to have numerous waterproofing defects, evidence of water intrusion and other construction defects.

The Umbrella star’s house was hit by a “moderate rainstorm” in January 2010 according to the court documents and because of the defects, water leaked into many of the rooms and caused a tremendous amount of damage.

“The actual value of the property at the time of purchase, taking into consideration the extensive construction defects… was millions of dollars less,” she claims.

Rihanna is not only suing the former owner of the property but the inspector, real estate agents involved in the sale and the engineers who worked on the home.

The Federal Government has described Dangote group as the highest private sector investor in the country, with an investment portfolio, running into billions of dollars.

The group has also resolved to invest over N900 billion into the economy within the next 12 months.
The Minister of Trade and Investment, Mr. Olusegun Aganga, recently said that the federal government would as a matter of necessity put in place a platform to recognise the contributions of entrepreneurs like Dangote and the need to encourage them to do more so that other businessmen would be interested in the development of the nation’s economy.

According to him: “I must say that much has been achieved by Dangote Cement in an attempt to meet local demands. And government would like to replicate these exploits in the production of rice, sugar and wheat.”

Speaking at an agro-business forum in Lagos last week, Aganga said the investment figure of N1.5 trillion for this year, which was a conservative one because of the few companies captured, was arrived at after an analysis of the survey forms filled by the companies during the ministry’s maiden meeting with the Organised Private Sector(OPS) and captains of industry.

Of the total amount, the President, Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, would invest N900billion in the production of fertiliser and petro-chemicals.
The Nigerian Bottling Company Plc pledged to invest N45billion, Guinness Nigeria Plc ($225million); Odua Investment Company Limited (N37billion); and Chairman, Ikeja Hotels Plc, Mr. Goodie Ibru ($6million) among others.

According to the survey, the manufacturing, real estate, agro-allied and automotive sectors would get N1.06trillion; N198.5billion, N67.8billion and N45billion investments respectively, while tourism, trade and commerce, transport and others would make up the rest.
Aganga, who commended the Nigerian investors for their confidence in the Nigerian economy, added that the federal government was committed to providing a conducive environment to enable the private sector play a pivotal role in the transformation of the country’s economy.
He said at the end of the one-day workshop on agribusiness, stakeholders would also come out with a roadmap for the implementation of the Nigerian Agribusiness and Agro-industries Development Initiative(NAADI).

This, according to him, would be a major step forward in the efforts aimed at job creation and economic growth.
According to him: “The result of that survey has just been released. It showed that the local companies will invest N1.52trillion in the Nigerian economy within the next 12 months. And this is in the non-oil sector alone.

“According to Nigeria ’s Vision 2020 document, Nigeria needs to invest N34trillion in growth areas in the next four years. Of this, the federal government should account for N10trillion, state governments, N9trillion, and private sector (both local and international), N15trillion.
“The overall macroeconomic target for the medium term is for Nigeria to achieve a target Gross Domestic Product of N50trillion ($333billion) by 2013, as well as growth in GDP per capita from $1,075 in 2009 to $2,008.75 by 2013.

Beyonce wordlessly confirmed she was expecting by rubbing her baby bump at the end of an on-stage performance.

The flamboyant Lady Gaga, meanwhile, appeared as her male alter-ego Jo Calderone at the Los Angeles event.

Tributes were paid to late singer Amy Winehouse, while Adele won three prizes for her Rolling in the Deep video.

Yet it was Katy Perry who took home the night's most-coveted trophy, picking up the video of the year award for Firework.

The promo also received a prize for its special effects, with Perry getting another "Moonman" statuette for her collaboration with rapper Kanye West on the video for her song ET (Extra-Terrestrial).
Pop star Britney Spears was honoured with MTV's Vanguard Award and won an additional prize for her Till The World Ends video.

Elsewhere R&B star Chris Brown soared above the crowd during a gravity-defying rendition of his hit Yeah 3X.

As previously announced, veteran crooner Tony Bennett took to the stage to introduce footage of him recording jazz track Body and Soul with Winehouse in March.

"You just can't be a jazz singer - either you've got it or you haven't," said the 85-year-old. "Amy had the whole gift."

US singer-songwriter Bruno Mars also paid homage, ending a cover version of the Winehouse hit Valerie with the words: "Amy, we'll miss you baby."

Lady Gaga ended up with two awards on Sunday, receiving both the female video and "video with a message" prizes for her Born This Way promo.
