PoliticsRe: Bayelsa State Governor Involved In N100 Billion Fraud. by doyin13(m): 3:17pm On Mar 28, 2010
Kobojunkie:
Well, From the report, and so many others priors, it does not seem the Niger Delta states all treasure the resources either, by the claimed actions of the State Governor in this case, and some others.
Well fair enough. .They are the ones most affected by the exploitation of the area.

They are better placed to decide judiciously the management of their resources.

As it is now . . . .they are wasting money from abuja as against money from resources
exploited from their land.

Kobojunkie:
Are you telling us that, if found guilty, the man had the consent of the Bayelsa people to "WASTE" their money or are you just being sarcastic here?
Neither. . .

My argument was directed at those who might use this to justify
the rest of the country pilfering Niger Delta resources because
according to them the result would be grand corruption like allegedly
displayed by Sylva.

Kobojunkie:
Oh how we pick and choose that which we want to condemn in Nigeria. What about the recent appointment of Goodluck Jonathan as ACTING president, what part of the constitution was upheld in that? Was that not an illegal move in and of itself? Why doesn't our dear Falana consider that before writing to the ILLEGALLY appointed Acting president about another ILLEGAL appointment.  Jeezz!!! Where is @Cap28 to explain this to Falana. lol
Kobojunkie. . .this really is mindless pendantry.

Falana has the prerogative over what he fights over. If he'd rather
pay attention to the constitution of the Electoral body, then so be it.

You on the other hand can go to court to declare the emergence of the Acting President
illegal.

ABI??

Nay. . .scratch that. Why end with the emergence of the Acting President.

You should probably start with the emergence of the President himself.
Was his election not riddled with enough unconstitutionality to demand his removal?

Oh no. . .wait. The judges were employed under the auspices of an illegal government.

Challenge the composition of the courts.

Shoot2Kill:
If you allow the NDs to break away from Nigeria and become nd independent country. The republic of ND will become a wasteland with 5 years and the citizen be living in worse conditions than they are now. No be curse na fact. The same greed will be carried over by remnants of the PDP ,the AC and the political cabal. The president of ND will make corrupt deals with the leaders of neighbouring countries to smuggle oil out and sell it on the black market. Oil fields will be allocated to relatives and friends as well former colleagues in the old Nigeria.

Besides MEND is clearly a chop make i chop organization.
Guy. . . .why are you worried about what happens in the Delta afterwards.

I doubt they can fare any worse than they do up to now.

Perhaps we from other regions should tend to our own gardens before choosing
to play school father and mother for someone else.

MrPrsdent:
Would you hold the same view if the nation's oil was located in a different region? Would you support leaders of such region claiming the wealth as solely theirs and frittering it on wanton jamborees?
My post was meant as a defence of Federalism not some ''frittering on wanton jamborees''.
I have no Niger Delta connections whatsoever so my argument was not based on some
parochial attachment. It was strictly based on principle.

So yes. . . .my view would still stand if the oil was located in Lafia, Onitsha or Modakeke.
AfroCynic:
Would it not be great if it was the actual 'Niger Deltans' that were wasting the money,  Four guys do not a whole region make. 99% of Niger Deltans still live way below the poverty line.  The perpetrator might be familiar but the crime has the same debilitating effect.
Well good. . . . The fight should be against corrupt Niger Deltans and not the right of
the Deltans to their resources.

I am wary of opportunists who might use cases such as this to deny resource control.

They go.  . . . .''what have they done with the one they are getting now? aren't their
governors carting them away to foreign banks?''

Of course. . . .they forget the rest of the nation is complicit in this orgy of thievery and corruption.

Yet, na Northerners be the problem of Niger Delta, grin grin grin
Bruv. . .It is the Niger Deltan's wealth to waste.

It is quite condescending for other states to come here
and start reproaching the ND's.

Which one is worse. . .wasting my own money or some thieving
outsiders stealing my money on the pretence of nationhood and
frittering it away in Ado Ekiti, Gombe and Abuja.

I don't know what part of Lagos State Babapupa (and his ilks) comes from. But, I am very sure that no real indigene of Lagos State will condone the evil being perpetuated by Tinubu and his acolytes.
Let them keep shouting "eko o ni baje" while they continue looting our wealth. Very soon, the real people of Lagos will do what needs to be done about them. I hope they won't be blaming PDP then.
I don't want to hold court for Fashola or Tinubu. . .

but the recent upsurge in criticisms stinks as much as
the contracts they are directed against.

There is a reason Fashola is widely revered, the formidable
public relations machine aside.

There is a sense of direction and purpose that has given
many lagosians hope that is in short supply anywhere else in
the nation.

Now the critics have crawled from everywhere and cried to high
heavens over accountability. Remember, this contract is almost
half a decade old now, and all of a sudden a year to new elections
all this malarky.

The clamour should be for openness in government and not for
Fashola's head. That is a crusade I might believe in and not
the buzz of opportunists as we have now.

felele:
Just how much more sinister does this deal need to be?? The contractor, Hi-tech Construction, is a MAJOR member of the consortium that was leased the road by Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the former Governor, in his last administration.

The same contractor has Bola Ahmed Tinubu as its Chairman and major shareholder!!!! Not sinisterhuh The man basically "dashed" himself an entire corridor of Lagos, and you see nothing sinisterhuh?

The "consortium" was also dashed land in excess of 1500 hectares in the Ibeju-Lekki area, going right up to the sea, and you still see nothing sinisterhuh If I were to value the land, we would say at about N1,000,000 per plot, 1500 hectares would come to about N22.5 billion.

They get to keep all the money from the tolls, and the Land, and the state gets nothing more, and you see nothing sinisterhuh

World bank funds are also involved, and yet the state has to part with well over N22.5 billion in assets, and you still see nothing sinisterhuh?

The quality of the road is VERY HIGHLY questionable, considering the amount of pure filling sand that they use as the sub-base for the road. This means the road is highly unlikely to last beyond the 30 years they've got the concession for.

The fact that Tinubu awarded the concession to a company in which he has more than a passing interest should be enough reason for the cancellation of the concession.

ANOTHER ANGLE: IF LAGOS STATE HAD KEPT THE N3 BILLION/MONTH IT WAS PAYING ALPHA-BETA CONSORTIUM (ANOTHER TINUBU FIRM) FOR THE 31 MONTHS FROM MAY 2007 TO DECEMBER 2009, THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN ENOUGH IN THE KITTY TO EXPAND THE ROAD, EVEN AT THE OUTRAGEOUS COST OF N50 BILLION LCC ARE CHARGING, THE STATE WOULD HAVE HAD ABOUT N93 BILLION SAVED!!!!!

Fashola needs to cancel that contract, NOW!!!
haaaa. . .now when you put it like that
PoliticsRe: Governor Fashola And The Lekki Toll Road Scam by doyin13(m): 4:33pm On Mar 26, 2010
The contract was signed before Fashola took over so I guess that is one
mitigating factor in his defense.

As per the road works, the LCC chairman in an interview I read recently
tried his best to explain the cause of all the problems with the construction.

Problems like gaining right of way and the absence of alternative routes the latter
admittedly the fault of the LASG. But he also said tolling will only begin once I think
10 kms'$ or so of the road is completed, and not 2km. He predicted the construction
would go a lot quicker as many bottlenecks have been sorted out.

Doesn't say much for their project management but eh. . .well at least nothing sinister
is going on.

PoliticsRe: Eye On Lago. Eko O Ni Baje Lai Lai. by doyin13(m): 4:59pm On Mar 24, 2010
The issues over the Lagos Badagry project are as a result of a mixup within the FG
and not with the FG.

There is a committee set up by Yaradua headed by Yayale the secretary to the FG
solely for the purpose of looking at Lagos-FG issues. And from all indications LASG
has secured the right for the LRT rail line from Agbado and Okokomaiko as well as
the Badagry expressway project.

While I would like Fashola to address all Lagos state issues at once, it is very
obvious the paucity of funds necessitates serious prioritizing.

There is no doubt the gridlock on the roads needs to be loosened hence the
vast commitment of funds to that sector. Lagos simply cannot continue to
have people spending four hours for journeys that should take ten minutes.
This is serious waste of productivity and we would all be better for it when
the traffic bottleneck disappears.
