Do they still have "Africard" on the front of the UBA Visa Africard. Just got mine and there was no Africard on it.
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Self Employment Opportunity: Transcribing For A Living In Nigeria Part 1 by DrDxtrz: 1:55pm On Nov 15, 2019
Can anyone recommend a UBA branch in Ikeja for Africard?

Its the 1st time I'm hearing this. All you need is a utility bill to confirm your address and bvn.
Please locate a big UBA branch.
Sigh* I was at the front desk at a UBA branch in Ikeja yesterday, and the attendant said I needed an International Passport for International Africard -- said I could get the local one without an International Passport.

Has anyone been able to get an Africard without an International Passport?

Now at UBA for Africard. They said I'd need to submit an International Passport for an international Africard

Yes, you will be charged #100 transaction fee for any bank that is not UBA. but if it is to Uba it will be #50. download the Uba mobile app on playstore.

Thanks. I don't have a UBA account. And I don't have a utility bill to use in opening a UBA account. I'll send to my firstbank instead, it's just #50 difference

Final Questions, guys, can I transfer funds from an Africard to a Firstbank bank account, or can I only transfer from there to a UBA account to transfer locally?

They don't always ask.
But be prepared, they will change their mind quickly once funds start touching down significantly.
OK. Thanks, bro.

I just opened a Lesotho PayPal account, but I wasn't asked to verify my identity. Have they stopped asking to upload an ID card or passport?

Good afternoon, guys.
Please, what's the exchange rate (USD to naira) for Africard if I want to transfer to a bank account?

I asked around and I was told you can't link PayPal and Payoneer anymore.
Oh, farts. Thanks a lot for going through the trouble of asking around, bro.
I guess I would have to stroll down to UBA and get an Africard.

I don't think PayPal and Payoneer do anything together any longer.
Really?
Felt I could use a Payoneer card with SA PayPal.
Thanks!

Guys, is it possible to withdraw from a South African PayPal account to a Payoneer card if I have one?

Edit:
Or must I really use a Lesotho or UAE PayPal and an Africard if I need a working PayPal account to receive payments in Nigeria?

A lot of places in Nigeria have something going for them.
They are simply badly governed.
What ibadan has going for it right now is the start-up mentality of yaba in lagos. The youths just want to do their own thing.

Bad governance and corruption is the bane of most African countries, it's really worrying.
Africa has what it takes to be a beautiful continent, the weather is great, little or no natural disasters, various depots of natural resources, I wouldn't understand why Africa has refused to get it right.

Yeah they do, I was surprised, i'd thought my Google map had re-routed into lagos at first haha, es una ciduad ermoso muchos.
They even have a pizza shop, I wasn't expecting a proper gas station lol. At least for a west African state, it's okay. The publicity about the place on the Nigerian web about the city isn't a reflection of what's on ground.
You should pay a visit, if you like traveling like me.‎

is palms shopping mall not suppose to be in lekii Lagos?
There is a palm shopping mall in Ibadan if I could recall correctly, I visited the city for the first time some months ago, to visit a professor friend in the University of Ibadan, it's a nice place, also played couple arcade games at that V building, it's on the top floor. I most appreciate the traffic flow, way better than lagos, I spent two nights.
I plan to visit again in a few weeks when am free, basically the ancient parts of the city.‎

dablazor:
HardMirror, this is a really nice thread, you should know I read from Part 1 without skipping a single page, read most as guest, I was forced to recall my Nairaland password as I had forgot it.
I have to admit, your story is a little similar to mine, though on a rather smaller scale, I wasn't into the evangelism brouhaha but I have read the bible over 30 times growing up back to back (although wasn't a good read because of some absurdity, most parts I try not to understand, because questions would keep pouring in)
I was born into a Christian family, brought up a Christian, from catholic to deeper life, to winners, redeem, seventh day adventist, and back to redeem I think the only denomination I never attended was a white garment church.
Growing up as a Christian was challenging because I was a curious child who applies logic, I could recall even before I was thirteen the bible confuses me a lot because somethings don't just add up, but I was so scared to ask questions, I was too scared to think, and I have to admit, I felt trapped.
I once went to my pastor when I was a teenager with some questions about Christ's sacrifice, which doesn't make sense to me, I ended up having the devil casted out of me, as my pastor could only justify my superior argument with my being possesed by the devil, I was given a special prayer session and I was convinced I was possessed too(funny). Ever since then, I never wanted to question God for I fear that's the devil tempting me, I used the 'get thee behind me satan' clause a lot back then growing up saying it silently to myself anytime these thoughts flood my mind, I felt it was the devil talking to me, I couldn't even question my belief because I always felt the devil is the only reason i'd question christianity, am sure a lot of Christians can relate to this fear if they are being honest.
Am pretty sure if we were all brought up free of religion and was then introduced to Christianity after puberty, Christianity would be extinct.
Altogether I dropped religion last year towards the end of my masters before my PhD and I wished i'd done earlier, I felt so free, I could think about anything and ask questions, I felt like I have being caged for twenty-five years, I never took cocaine before but I can tell the euphoric sensation is quite similar to that of coke fiends.
Am sure a lot of Christians are familiar with John 8:32 "For ye shall know the truth and the truth would set you free" indeed the bible got this right, and I keep thinking it's an hidden message in that book.

Lol anyway, funny thing is I still gotto church, and yeah my 'Pastor' is a good speaker, he is a good motivational speaker, the church to me since I lost my faith has being a weekly societal gathering where you come, dance, meet various busy-working friends, take pictures and all. Yes I do pay offerings as well, because I know it ain't no kid thing for a motivational speaker to stand on a podium for an hour tops, he needs to be paid. And good thing is my pastor barely quotes the bible, his teachings are based on morals.
The whole world needs to wake up, its not bad if we have a morality class every weekend, but let's not just cloud it with some sacrosanct spiel of a Jesus/God, it's stupid. The gathering is a good idea, but the god factor is wrong.
It's not fair having believers praying and fasting day in day out hoping to get answers to their pleas while abandoning hard work and placing all their bets on a god, let people know both good and bad experiences they have aren't predestined by a god, or that the affairs of this world are being controlled by a spiritual being who they can call to and he'd intervene, you reap exactly what you sow, nothing is fixed, some are lucky some aren't, no sky daddy would help you out because as far as I am concerned, he only exists in the head of his believers and outright powerless in the real world!
Most people rely so much on a god that they don't work hard as much as they need to as they believe they had done their best(even when it's not enough) and having comfort in putting the rest it all in a supposed God's hand, and once things didn't go as they anticipated because they believed, they make excuses for their imaginary sky daddy, he ain't even have to beg for it.

The Internet is killing religion, as people are beginning to see the truth, and meet others like them which they never thought existed because no one would come forward in a rather religion fanatic society.

I believe there is no god, hence agnostic-atheist, am not sure if he exists and I won't waste valuable time trying to be sure if there is a god or if there isn't but as far as I am concerned, if a god exists, he would rather have people know outright that he exists, because everyone is worshiping a god based on their societal leanings, which means most are christians because they are born in a Christian home, same with Muslims and others and they all claim to be linked to god, and if he won't clear our doubts, and show us the true way to him and he still exists despite his reluctance to clear these said doubts, then I believe he doesn't care about our affairs or our worship.
So i'd live my life free of worry and reliance, and take the Bulls by the horn, shikena.

am no more caged, and my life has being better, my studies has being swift, grades have being great, I take responsibility for everything that happens to me without wasting time on some god, my life has never being better, I feel in charge, and it feels like am truly in charge of my life.
It's the best feeling ever!!!

Am addressing this question to people who keep saying "it's better you serve god now than realize there is a god when you die".
- If one wants to serve a god, which god is the true god? Because there over a million religions out there, and all claim their god is the true god.
- Why is it imperative that one needs to worship a god? Why is it so important??
- I believe the christian god is built on the morals of the Israelis, Jews amongst others, they exported their religion en mass, why do Africans abandon your own religion for some shipped over one, I have read about some African gods, it's quite cool, you don't feel yours is good enough?
I need answers because am outright perplexed.

I recall posting on this topic earlier that my ma is Christian, spoke with her just few hours ago over the phone and she is converted to Wiccan already *sigh*

Until I joined this forum, I never had a reason to question my belief religion-wise.
I grew up in a society where it's never an issue, some go to church, some don't, it's based on choice. I never fancied it, my big sister goes to church, so does my ma, me padre and most of my uncles, my other siblings just take each day as it comes, you work hard, get your results, you get lucky.. then you get lucky, it's never credited to some rather phantom supreme being.
Even believers really don't give credit to the Christian god, my ma never attributed luck to a god.
It's just laughable really, am sorry I just laughed, since I moved to nigeria, I just laugh when I see how serious most people take religion, the vigils, and many other time wasting routines on weekdays and weekends, yet the continent remain pretty underdeveloped, and poverty is rampant.
Les manos have your own traditional religions still, yet abandoned it for some shipped over middle eastern god, Africans are really insecure tbt, and always seek approvals from the west, it's pathetic.

SirShymexx:

Yes. He's the real deal - support the real. The heavyweight division has never seen anyone with his type of physique and IQ combined. They always have one of the two - Frank Bruno for the former cos Bruno had zero IQ, and Ali for the latter cos Ali had a very high boxing IQ. He can also box and he packs a lot of power in his right hand. Even his jabs.

At this stage of his career, he has already beaten more quality opponents than Mike Tyson did when he was coming up. If he can make the perfect transition and improve, then he won't have a problem being an all time great. Mike Tyson for example never made that transition and the only half-decent opponent he beat was Michael Spinks (40 year-old Larry Holmes doesn't count). And he lost to all the quality and decent boxers he faced: Lennox Lewis, Holyfield Twice, and Buster Douglas. That's why no serious boxing head will ever put Mike Tyson on the top-10 greatest heavyweight boxers ever. Once you pick the trio of Ali, Frazier, and Foreman...the duo of Lennox Lewis and Evander Holyfield...and old school champions like, Jack Johnson and Joe Louis. Then a prime Larry Holmes (you can also throw Sonny Liston, Rocky et al around). You'll see why Mike Tyson was all about excitement than actual boxing skills and who he fought. And I'm a big Mike Tyson fan. Anthony Joshua can surpass that in achievements.

Support the real deal. cool
@bolded, you have a point, Mike never fared well with seasoned boxers
I believe A.J would in the couple months have to contend with season boxers, let's see how he does

Religion / Re: What If The Bible Is A Lie? by DrDxtrz: 9:22am On Apr 11, 2016
cloudgoddess:

Hello there DrDxtrz.

I think that idea very much seems to have merit on the surface - and it's an argument frequently put forward by theists. But in practice it simply doesn't appear to play out. Like myself & others have pointed out a few times, statistically there does not seem to be any positive correlation between practiced morality and religiosity - in fact, the opposite seems to be true. Countries with higher rates of people who identify as religious (I think the criteria used is "believing in a deity that watches their actions & influences their lives" ), have significantly higher rates of violent crime, teenage pregnancy, wealth disperity, and other markers that would point towards a society being less moral. And in addition, countries with the highest secular/atheist/agnostic populations, score very low in comparison on all of those markers, and much higher on markers like overall health, equality, etc. So it's actually the reverse of what many would expect.

There are several reasons why this may be the case. In my social psychology textbook I recently read some passages on the effects of harsh punishment on influencing behavior, which may shed some light. It turns out that extreme punishments (perhaps including such threats as eternal hellfire) are actually quite ineffective in discouraging bad behavior consistently & reliably. I clipped a few portions:

Add to that the "repent & you shall be forgiven" doctrine of Christianity and you can see how this can create a mental environment that leads to inconsistent moral behavior. It seems secular societies tend to rely on how their actions will effect their fellow citizens as a way to foster moral compliance, rather than lean on fear of extreme punishment from some dictating authority figure. Reasoning (ex. teaching children why certain things are wrong to do, not just that they are wrong because x authority said so) and "smaller punishments" typically in the form of social reinforcement, might play more of a role for them. Consistent with what I read in my textbook, these seem to be more effective means of moral encouragement.
Well i have to say this is a well researched post and a really compelling delivery.. am still a little skeptical about the statistics, because i still believe the existence of a god and boomerang have actually kept some people in check, at least i have some theist friends who won't entertain some supposed sins (which are crimes in our world) because of their beliefs, maybe not all, but to a greater degree, I feel if its a free for all, it'd be more chaotic then it already is.
But hey, a little more study on this and an on ground practical citations (largely atheist and theist societies crime comparative) and i might segue, because my inclination has shifted a little to your side.
