A doctor has the right not to attend to any patient if he feels uncomfortable doing so EXCEPT if the case is an emergency.Same way a patient has the right to choose a doctor.However, the doctor must refer the patient to a colleague.You don't leave the patient hanging.I did that once in my practice in Nigeria when a patient virtually assaulted me.Patient shouting at doctors is not uncommon.Part of the medical training in every part of the world is how to handle ANGRY patients.The doctor should have spoken with the patient's relative, reassure her address her concerns and douse the tension.
