Baphil:
Good evening everyone.

So I have come for the end part of my brother and his family's testimony ooo. My brother's family - wife and two children's visas have been issued today.

His own visa was issued on the 5th of January 2021 and his family was requested to go for medicals on the 4th of January 2021. They went for their medicals on the 13th of January 2021 and passed on the 16th of January 2021. After that, no more response from IRCC.

We decided to send direct mails to the three Nairobi emails since we are sure that particular office handled my brother's application and naturally received the generic acknowledgement mails back.

So today at 12:09 and 12:13 noon, their three PPR mails and one BVL mail for their mother landed.

They are so overjoyed grin cheesy! Thank you everyone for answering all the questions I had here when I started their application.

One more question please - I need to know if the passports will be submitted together as a family or separately as individuals.

Thank you again and again.
Hello, I'm also applying to travel with my wife. Can you walk me through the process your brother followed if you can please?
Thanks

Yes
@Lekiboboe kindly advise

I have been admitted to study Social Service Care Worker Program for Fall 2021 at NBCC.

I live and work in Ireland while my spouse lives and work in Nigeria. I will be applying to travel with my spouse and I am currently filling out forms for the online application. There's a section on the questionnaire which asked "Why is your family member visiting Canada?". I chose "Work with an Open Work Permit" and will like to know if this is correct considering she will be accompanying to Canada.

Secondly, the form, "Use of a Family Member Representative for Online Applications (IMM5713)", does my spouse need to sign a signature or can her full name stand as a signature as we are currently not together for her to sign?

Thirdly, on my spouse section for "Supporting Documents", the question "Purpose of Travel - Other ", what is the correct document to upload in that section?

I will be delighted if I get clarifications on these.

Would also appreciate any tips on how to arrange my application.
Thanks

Hello,

Please when filling the application for study permit form, the part where they ask for National ID issue date and expiry, if I am using NIN, should I leave it blank? Or what other ID can I use apart from drivers license?

Also, I didn't get a UCI when I started my application even after doing the documents check list thing, how can I get it now?

Thank you
What's a 'UCI'?
I saw that but don't know what it means.

To all those screaming and accusing the Irish embassy of gross incompetence, I bet you all didn't read the part where you were told to apply at least 12 weeks to the resumption of your programs.
So because you submitted an application in August for a program that starts in September, they should abandon every other application on their hands and attend to yours?

Let's all play our parts first before spewing thrash and bugging them with calls. The rules are clear!

If the embassy requests for more documents from you, they will instruct you on how to send it in. In my case, I was told to send scanned copies of the needed documents.

Congrats to all those who have secured their visas and I say a warm welcome to the Republic of Ireland. Someone prior before now has already stated the procedures to settling down here on arrival and so there won’t be need for me to repeat same. I am only going to give my advise based on personal experience. Please let it be noted here that whatsoever I state here is entirely my personal opinion and remains that way.
First, I will start with the positive sides. Ireland is a nice place to study and work with lots of opportunities. If you are the hardworking type and not extravagant, be rest assured that you will be able to meet your personal needs and still have a sizeable amount as savings too. The country is to a gross extent highly secured, good infrastructure and lots of other features associated with first world countries. No doubt, you will find it worthwhile studying and working here in Ireland.
To the other side of the coin, Ireland like everywhere else won’t give you what you deserve but that which you fight for. What do I mean? There is nothing like empathy here. No one gives a damn about you. You are entirely responsible for everything concerning you. Imagine your landlord or landlady wave at you as she drives pass you just as you stand at the bus top waiting for the Dublin bus even though she heading same direction as you. Please don’t misunderstand it all. It’s just their communal principle I guess. It’s same thing we call OYO. No one fucking cares if you exist. So please do not come here thinking empathy will get you anywhere. Nope it won’t. You will only get what you truly fought for and rightfully deserve. .
Secondly, racism here is taking a whole new dimension. Here in Ireland they don’t exhibit it openly but rather do so in what I would tag a polite way. What would you call a situation where it’s rare to see them sit next to you inside the bus except mostly in scenario where the bus is filled up and there isn’t any space left? My brother, please don’t feel bad when you experience this cause you are most obviously going to witness such from time to time. It’s just a norm for them here with the elderly ones exempted. The older ones can easily identify with you but same isn’t the situation with the younger folks. So please brace up and start developing thick skin cause you are obviously going to need that here.
For those of you that will be retiring home from work at odd hours of the night, please turn deaf ears to junkies if you ever come across them. This problem is not peculiar to Ireland only. Is everywhere but my advise is that you turn deaf ears to their rantings if you ever come across them for your personal safety.
Lastly, please carry yourselves as ambassadors of Nigeria. Keep the flag flying here and refrain from acts capable of denting our already battered image as a country. I once scolded a fellow able bodied Nigerian fellow who has made it a habit of begging at odd hours of the night at the city center. On the pretense of been stranded and needed financial assistance to get home. I first fell for it only for him to come again another night unknowing it was me. But for the fact that we are same national I would have called the Garda officials who were close proximity from where I was to effect his arrest. Please for the newbies, if you ever come across him at odd hours of the night, don’t fall for that gimmick as he only approaches black guys.
Ireland is a land of opportunities. Lots of both blue and white collar jobs. Work hard and be proud of your humble beginning. It’s never ever going to be easy. I repeat, it won’t be easy at first but with time as time passes by, things will begin to work for your good IF and ONLY IF you are steadfast and hardworking. Please avoid toxic friends here. Trust me they are much here. I know many who started very focused at first and then as time passes by they lost it and it’s now jamboree. Always remember your family And where you come from. Don’t ever be carried away with staying in Ireland cause that’s not achievement.
Making it in Ireland and coming back home to assist your family and folks in whatever possible is the real achievement.
One last comment, for the guys, if you have a serious relationship back home, please do not jettison it cause here, their young white girls mostly prefer their white guys. Ireland isn’t fully ripe like the UK and America when it comes to inter racial relationships and marriage.
For my newbies sisters, as funny as it may sound, 99% percent of the time these white folks will accost you is just for paid bedroom pleasure and nothing more. Sadly enough, this has turned few of our female folks here into something else. But notwithstanding, sizeable proportion of them still hold sway in high esteem and seriously committed in exhibiting high levels of morality imbibe in our African culture. So please don’t leave that poor guy back home with the hope that you will catch one sweet clean white dude here..lol
Congratulations to all those that have been granted their visas and my wish and prayer is for those awaiting theirs will be granted too. One love!
Thanks for the heads up.
May you walk and never miss your way.

Good Afternoon House.

Firstly, I would like to appreciate the efforts and assistance being provided by all on this platform.

I have some doubts and would love to get clarifications. I submitted my Irish study visa application in VFS Lagos office, 8th July 2019 and on VFS website it states that it was forwarded to Abuja on the 9th July 2019 (screenshot attached). Please, I would like to find out how do I know that my application has gotten to the Irish embassy Abuja and is being attended to?

Also, I tried tracking on UPS website for my parcel and it states "shipment ready for UPS". What does this mean? (Screenshot attached ).

Please, I would appreciate if I get a response to my enquiries.

Thanks.

Louis
The first means that your application has been received by the embassy and is being attended to.

The second which says "label created" simply means you've paid for courier envelope/shipment of your documents back to you via UPS courier.

When the Irish embassy is done with you visa application, they forward your documents/passport to vfs who hands it over to UPS for onward delivery to you.

Patience is key here. You application is barely 4 weeks old. You should start getting worried from the 7th week.

Please how do people know that their documents have been forwarded. The vfs website is asking me to enter a reference number and my date of birth. i have tried using my application number but its not working and i submitted over a week ago
On the slip you were given after payment at vfs, there's a reference number starting with 'IEAJ' if you submitted in Abuja of 'IELG' if you submitted in Lagos. That's your reference number.

Getting a part time job and other related matters

Studying abroad no doubt is expensive, and as such, making extra money while studying will be of help in getting one self together while it lasts. As you all know, your class of visa - study visa which is also called 'stamp 2' allows you to work up to 20 hours during school term and full time during holidays. There is no restriction in Ireland to where you can work unlike in some other countries where students can't work outside campus during the early years of their studies. The only restriction on a "study visa - stamp 2" in Ireland is that you are not allowed to be self employed.

No job pays less than minimum wage here. The minimum wage as at today is €9.55. Change in minimum wage is usually communicated when the budget of a new year is passed by government and all employers normally comply to the change.

Getting a part time job could be tough depending on how one approach the situation. First you need to have a CV. From my own understanding, there is no much difference between the CV style here and that obtainable in naija. Part time jobs students engage in range from retail assistant, bar tender, waiter, kitchen porter, valeter (what we call car wash), deli assistant,
Pamphlet sharer, motor boy for a delivery company or waste collection company, account technicians or clerk, stock taker, care giver, ware housing, delivery driver - ensure you get a driving licence, insurance, nct certificate et al before driving here. Driving without any of those could lead offender to prison
The list is of part time jobs students do is endless. Just make sure it is legal.

The fastest way to get these aforementioned jobs is mainly dropping your CV to shops in case of retail position, or restaurants. For some other jobs listed, you apply mainly online or through network/recommendation. But for guys wanting to work as soon as possible, you can decide to register with some agencies that provide jobs on as you are available basis. Most of these agencies like Excel recruitment, Noel recruitment et al require you to take two short course with them before you can start working for them. The courses are manual handling and food safety. They both cost €80. I don't know if the price for the course change from time to time. Most of these agencies offer jobs mainly in hospitality sector. But they offer the fastest way of getting a part time job that is very flexible as regards to timing. You work mainly when you are available unlike other employers that would have you in their roaster, thereby making it difficult to miss work often due to busy schedule or need to travel.

Retail assistant jobs are about the easiest, but a bit difficult getting one. If you are so interested in getting one for your self, ensure your CV has some retail experience, with someone they can contact for reference on your behalf from such work place you have listed on your CV.

Websites that are useful for applying for jobs online include: jobs.ie, indeed.com/Ireland, gumtree.ie, irishjobs.ie et al.

After getting a part time job, you need to get a PPS number - personal public service number. Without a PPS number, your employer won't be able to tax you appropriately thereby resulting to emergency tax. Emergency tax takes about 42% of whatever you earn for the period under review. You can always claim the emergency tax back when you get the PPS number. You need to book appointment at revenue.ie to register for PPS number. Before going for the appointment, you need evidence as to why you need the PPS number. It could be in the form of employment letter from your employer or a letter from your school's international office stating that you need the PPS number to carry out your registration. Once you are able to sort this out, you need to take your international passport, your mobile phone as they will send a code to it which you will be required to tell the person attending to you during the appointment and proof of why you need PPS number for your appointment.

After the registration, the pps card will be sent to your house in about 5 working days. At that point, you will have to login into their website to finish the registration. On doing this, they will send you password to your account on revenue.ie at a latter time via post to your house . On getting the password, you will need to change it to something you can remember, and then add your employer under your jobs. You add your employer by the company's registration number. So you need to know that . You can always add as many employers you have on the platform. Just ensure you don't work more than the limit allowed by your visa. Once you do this, revenue office will inform your employer on the appropriate tax you need to pay.

That is all for now. I will answer queries here on a need to basis.

Cheers.
This information is priceless.
Thanks
