former head of state General, Muhammadu Buhari recently take a swiped at the people of Niger-delta as the sole evolution of terrorism in the country. in a statement recently released by buhari on the way government is handling boko haram issues, he state and i quote that “Every Nigerian that is familiar with happenings knows this. The Niger Delta militants started it all. What happened is that the governors of the Niger Delta at that time wanted to win their elections, so they recruited youths and gave guns and bullets to them to use against their opponents to win elections by force. my question is, Do You Agree With Buhari That The Niger Delta Militants Started The Boko Haram Insurgency? and that they should be offer amnesty as to the case of militants in the Niger delta.

Posted April 13th, 2013 by ISHANI OBAKPORORO Managing Director and Chief Executive of the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company, a subsidiary of Power Holding Company of Nigeria, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, spoke with David Attah on power supply, proposed power recharge cards and sundry issues What has been your experience since you assumed office as Managing Director/ CEO of KEDC? It has been so good. If you live in Kaduna, Zamfara, Sokoto or Kebbi states, the impact of the supply of power has been a major success story for us. Power supply has never been as stable as it is now. So, the major achievement for me is the stability of power supply. It is up to you to say whether power supply has improved in Kaduna. I know there are areas in the state that do not know what power outage is because of stability in power supply. It has been challenging but so far so good. I can assure our customers that in 2013, they can just sit back and see the kind of result they will get. Certainly, 2013 will be a better year as we are preparing to take off with some of the projects that have been approved by the Federal Government to boost power supply in Kaduna and its environ. What are these projects that have been approved? Right now, we have many projects. In Zaria, there is a replacement of 15MVA operating of power transformer at 7.5 15ma in our district office. There is also the operation of 2.5MVA to 7.5MVA at Kongo Conference at Tudun Wada, Zaria. There is also the replacement of a burnt down 7.5 Capacity Transformer at the Zaria transmission. There is also replacement of a 15MVA Transfer in Sokoto. The transformer failed about a year ago. The Federal Government approved the replacement of the transformer. Also, there is a plan for the rehabilitation of a line in Kebbi. It is also a project that is currently being undertaken. So it is hoped that there will be a boost in power supply when this project is completed. If you conduct a sample of customers’ view in Kaduna, Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara states, they will tell you that power is available, especially in Zamfara State where we used to have a big task in power supply. We did not know, not until the governor of Zamfara State invited us to a stakeholders meeting before we realised that the state was almost in a state of darkness. But when it came to our notice during the meeting, we took it upon ourselves to make sure that the issue was resolved. Customers in Gusau, Zamfara State will tell you that power is now stable; even the hours of supply have increased. More so, some areas are having 24 hours power supply in the North-West. What is the current volume of power supply to northern states? For Kaduna today, power supply is 138 Megawatts and it is one of the highest in the history of power supply in Kaduna metropolis. In Gusau, Zamfara State, power supply is 18 Megawatts as against five Megawatts before. We have not received the data for Sokoto and Kebbi states. I’m waiting for the report to come but I can tell you that power supply is stable. Power supply is available except in those areas where we have critical challenges; areas that have long network coverage; areas that fall under vandalisation because there is no security there and the rural customers are not able to protect our installations. So, those are the areas we have challenges. But by and large we are doing well and we can do better. What is the Internally Generated Revenue for the year 2012 compared to what it used to be? I took over last year, precisely in August 2012 and as at the time of taking over, cash collection was around N700m. Cash collection as at December was N960m, the highest in the history of the company. This is a clear indication that power is available because revenue generation is a function of power supply. We are hoping that revenue will increase, especially when the on-going projects are completed and customers will be a lot happier than they are now. What are the measures you are putting in place to sustain the revenue you are generating? We are introducing a lot of products that will delight our customers and make them patronise us the more. For the first time in the history of this company, we are introducing the scratch cards just like the GSM phone recharge cards. All you need do is to buy a power recharge card to recharge your prepayment meter just the way you recharge your mobile telephone. You don’t have to come to our office anymore because you want to buy credit to top up your meter. You can also recharge online. We are providing an opportunity for our customers. We have products like the web-based payment where you can sit in the comfort of your home, in the comfort of your car, in the comfort of your office to recharge your electricity. Some consumers believe the pre-paid meters are free, others believe it is not… The Federal Government has made a policy that the prepayment meter is free and up to time of this interview, prepayment meter is free. For us in the company, we do not take money from any customer in the name of payment for meter; that has stopped. However, before the introduction of the policy, customers had already paid for meters. Since we are now in the pre-payment era, we consider those customers first. We service those customers first because they have already paid for those meters before and for new customers who will enjoy free meters, it is only when we have serviced those customers that we can install meters for our customers who have not paid. A number of our customers got the meters free. When we say the meters are free, we mean it. There is an agitation that has come to our knowledge that because the meter is free, it has to be endorsed by the licensed Electrical Contractors of Nigeria. They also have their own fees because they need to endorse your service form and they charge administrative fees which is not part of the meter. It has no relationship with the meter. It is only a matter of policy that if you are applying for a new service, your application must be duly authorised by certified electrical contractor; so meter is absolutely free. There are customers who are in a hurry. There are customers who would not want to wait for this free meter. There is a new policy now on the way to accommodate the view of customers who are impatient, who cannot wait for this meter to get to their turn. So the National Electricity Regulatory Commission has taken note of customers who cannot wait. So, the commission has given authority to deal with that category of customers. They can come under a special arrangement to pay for the meter, but that meter will be treated like a loan that will be monetised in their bill so that they don’t feel it. That is only a new development in the industry. We believe there are customers who are impatient. There are customers, who, because they have the money and don’t want to wait, they are willing to pay for it. So right now, for the customers who cannot wait for the free meter, the commission has authorised that such customers pay for the meter. But the repayment of that meter will be part of the billing over a period of time. The most interesting thing about that is that there is an incentive for customers to enjoy a discount. Is it nationwide or for this zone alone? It is a product that is peculiar to Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company, but it is not to say that our sister companies in the other 10 distribution companies will not do the same or are not already doing the same thing. Ours is peculiar to our environment.

The talented rapper released a statement last night saying he has left his record label, Chocolate City. I hear the statement caught everyone at Chocolate City, where his brother M.I is a Vice President, by surprise. Jesse and Chocolate City have been having issues for a while but no one really expected him to make it public. I also hear he left because he wasn’t happy about the way they were handling his music career. See his press statement below… To whom it may concern: I, Jesse Garba Abaga (also known as “Jesse Jagz”) an artist formerly signed to Chocolate City Music label hereby wishes to notify my fans and the general public about my voluntary exit from the label. After my initial two year contractual agreement with Chocolate City, I do not wish to renew my contract with them and as such have proceeded to continue my music career with my new team at Jesse Jagz Nation. I still maintain a cordial relationship with the management of Chocolate City and my former label mates and I wish them the best in all their future endeavors. Any further information will be passed across through my publicist but until then, have a good day. Look out for my sophomore album JagZNation Vol. 1 coming out in July 2013. All for the best, Jesse Jagz.

Burger01: Buhari is national leader of antagonists of Nigeria. This man could not be trusted with the affairs of the country. Always scheming, deceiving, talking from both sides of his mouth. It's obvious he is the greatest supporter of Boko Haram and a major sponsor. Is Nigeria presidency his birthright? Sai Buhari, you would never become the president of this country again. Nigerians are wiser and was the reason you failed in your comeback bid. You will fail again and again and again. No wonder Boko Haram couldn't surface for amnesty...guy u harsh o |
is Mr president right? |
The Presidency has described former Head of State and presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.), as the major sponsor of the dreaded Islamic sect, Boko Haram and a leading protagonist of violence. It said that apart from his ambition to rule the country again, Buhari had refused to contribute meaningfully to actions capable of ending insecurity in the country. Buhari, a National Leader of the CPC, had, on the Hausa service of the British Broadcasting Corporation on Monday, said that the Federal Government should be blamed for the lingering security challenges in the country. According to Punch Newspaper, Buhari also flayed the Goodluck Jonathan administration for what he called “poor handling of insurgency” that had led to the death of many Nigerians and destruction of properties. While reacting to this, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe, said it was unfortunate that such a statement could emanate from Buhari. Describing Buhari as a man he respects so much, Okupe added that he had no option but to reply to his accusations against the Federal Government and the President. He reminded Nigerians that Buhari had previously been credited with a statement that he would make the country ungovernable if the last presidential election did not favour him. Okupe said, “Everybody in this country knows that it was Buhari who vowed that if he did not win the election, he would make the country ungovernable for this President. It was this same Buhari who said during the electioneering period that if the votes were counted and he lost, people should go for blood. He is not in any position to apportion blame on the issue of violence in the North or in Nigeria in general. He is a protagonist of violence. The only solution he sees to his not being President is to call for violence. This government has tried to contain some of the repercussions of the unguarded statements made by Buhari and I don’t think anybody in Nigeria will take him seriously on this allegation.” The presidential aide added that if there were those to be blamed for the insecurity in the country, the name of Buhari should top the list. Okupe wondered why the Katsina State-born general had refused to visit states like Borno and Yobe despite the fact that he hails from the northern part of the country. He said, “As a former Head of State, have you ever seen him (Buhari) visiting Borno or Yobe States? Have you ever seen him show sympathy to people, either Christians or Muslims that have been killed during these attacks by Boko Haram? Have you see him as a leader, a man who traversed the entire length and breadth of the North especially to canvass for votes seeking an end to the violence? Why is it that he cannot use that same clout that he has to get leaders together and say we must put an end to this carnage? He finds it comfortable to shift the blame to other people. What has he done as a leader, who is from that region to help Nigeria and the North out of this unfortunate development? Nigerians should ask him, as a former Head of State and stakeholder in the Nigeria project and a man who wants to be President again, if he would want Nigeria to be destroyed up to a point before he can try to wade in? It does not work that way.” Okupe said that as a leader, Buhari should stop apportioning blame, but should do something crucial to bring the carnage in the country under control. He reminded the former military ruler that during the crisis in Niger Delta, leaders from the region went into the creeks and discussed with the militants to lay down their arms. “Has Buhari done that? When Christians were killed, he kept quiet, when mosques were bombed, he did not say anything. He doesn’t have any other interest in Nigeria but his inordinate ambition to rule,” he added. In his reaction, Buhari said there was no way he could be involved in the discussion on how to end the carnage since he was not part of the problem. Buhari, who spoke through the National Publicity Secretary of the CPC, Mr. Rotimi Fashakin, also said it was apparent that those responsible for the crisis in the Niger Delta were the ones that volunteered to end it. He said, “When the Niger Delta militancy reached a crescendo, some notable people from that region went into the creeks as he (Okupe) alleged. The question is: ‘Who were the people who started the Niger Delta imbroglio ab initio?’ If the people that initiated and executed a problem decided to resolve it, what can anyone do about it? This is totally different from the Boko Haram palaver.”

smile4kenn: I feel so honored to be the first comment. All of my hard work and dedication has paid off. Getting the top comment has been a dream of mine for many years, and I would like to thank those who have helped me along the way. First and foremost I would like to thank God for giving me this opportunity. Next, I would like to thank my girlfriend. She had been patience with me while I attempt to make the top comment. I would also like to thank my pet tadpole for surviving against all odds for over a week. Next I would like to thank the squirrel that lives in my backyard for climbing trees because that gives me inspiration that I need to get through the day to make the top comment. This is a special moment in my life and I would like to thank any of my unmentioned friends and family that have helped me along the way. This moment will be a moment that I will never forget. I just remembered a few other people I will like to thank; Facebook, my light in my room bc i wouldn’t be able to see the keyboard without it, the internet for letting me go on nairaland, my house because without it I would be homeless, and last but not least I would like to thank all the people out there that actually took time out of their day to read this. I cannot stress how much of a big deal to me this is. I have been trying to be the first comment on a post for years, but that has not been possible until this amazing day. Hopefully my good luck will continue, but this is undoubtedly a rare occasion. If you asked me how I did this, I would say, you can achieve anything u set your mind on. To all the nairalanders out there reading this, I would like to tell them to follow their dreams. Being the first comment is amazing, thank you everyone.wat a nice speech frm a very wrong person, how i wish it was me.. |
