Xneg: Who are you? Where do you get your statistics about Nigerians from? why are you quick to condemn Nigerians yet you sell your products to them, if they don't have savings do you expect them to steal in order to patronize you? Look around you. Your environment, government policy ,unemployment rate, lack of infrastructure etc.. Kids that should be in school hawking on the street... you need jobs that will enable you to save. Some that have jobs are not paid yet ... Nigeria population is roughly 200 million people ,how many are gainfully employed? And the ones that do have good jobs will take discipline for them to save not prayers... |

Eizenburg: Your arguments here are flawed at best, and actually work against the point you’re trying to make.
Lots of Nigerians own houses and cars and I’m not talking about the rich ones. This is done even though we don’t live the credit life. In case you don’t get it, the point is you need to save up to acquire every thing you own here You also need jobs and a working government to do.. Am very sure that you still live at home and you are not yet married .. So the little hustling here and there makes you think you have savings? Reality will soon check in ,when you get married starting having kids ,school fees, supporting mommy and daddy, transportation fees from wrk to home etc you now tell me how you going to save .. If you were so smart and read to understand , you will comprehend that all am saying is that due to the economic situation, it is very hard for average Nigerians to save .....most like their counter parts in the USA live pay check to pay check..... But your emotions and jealousy seems to get the best of you |

How do expect average Nigerians to have savings, when most live on about $10 or less a day .. My view here is it is very hard for Nigerians to save , from what type of jobs are they saving from .. I know of a family friend that works in a bank .. She makes 150k naira a month.. Before the end of month she has spend her money. How do expect her to save money .. When her family depend on her and siblings are not working. And if they are working how much are they getting paid? |

Dovehorizon: Quite sad to see grown men speak in certain way, I nod my head in disgust when I see comments that ain't necessary.
How you guys boldly dish out curses baffles me and a grown man body shaming someone's mother at any slight dispute, yet claims to be enlightened is really shallow.
One thing you need to understand is, no man is an island. The depth of your knowledge could just be someone's starting point. It's okay to have a constructive argument but it becomes childish when you are hell bent on shoving your opinion down on people's throat.
When it comes to infrastructure, technology and development, Nigeria and U.S shouldn't be in the same sentence, yet someone would be too quick to make U.S (a country miles ahead of us ) a reference point just to score cheap points.
The beauty of life (one of) is change, when u make errors, when you flop, a strand of your hair wont fall off if you say "I am sorry", learn from it, make adjustment and move on... Albert Eisten said : once you stop learning you start to die. Take corrections and dont feel too big about it. How long are we continue to use this as an excuse. When you continue to make this as an excuse the nation will not move forward and you are not holding your leaders accountable or yourself.. You said we should stop comparing USA to Nigeria .. You are correct... Can we compare South Africa to Nigeria.. We need to stop making excuses for our failures as a nation and as individual.. We can't keep singing the same song and sorrow all the time.. Nigeria has more resources than South Africa. Nigeria is far richer than South Africa.. The richest black person in Africa is from Nigeria .. But South Africa so well advance than Nigeria .. If both countries should go to war today , South Africa will win the war .. How long are we going to continue making excuses |

sofdoc1: Dru23, I had to quote you when you addressed all Nigerian insurance companies as scams. I felt offended by that comment as I work in Leadway and this is the first reaction I get from most people. The truth is that most of the time, these people have had no direct dealings with these companies but are merely repeating what A told them happened to B they never met. It is a recurring issue that upsets me a lot as I like dealing with facts and figures, not stories they told me.
Now, someone with that mindset that comes across your post believes he or she has more confirmation to a story they have heard all too often.
I am sincerely sorry about what happened to your vehicle, it is really difficult to keep up with this thread buh I saw somewhere where you appeared to be making peace with the said driver in question. That is mature of you - as I would expect. I hope this situation has taught you a lesson and you take future precautions by insuring your vehicle next time. Best of luck. Have been doing Uber for past three years or more. I will continue to operate without any insurance, I will take my chances . I hope you are aware that any car I buy for uber is tokunbo. To add insurance to those cars and factor in my running cost .. It is not worth it for me at all .. If today uber decides to make it a requirement for partners to have insurance, most partners will just sell their cars and move on to something.. Maintenance is a profit killer in these business already and u now want to add insurance fees on top of it .... Now also if Lagos government decides to force uber to collect yearly operation lincense fees from partners. Which they were debating on at the time , the fee was like 100k naira a year or so .. I will just close down and sell all my cars. |

Xneg: Who are you? Where do you get your statistics about Nigerians from? why are you quick to condemn Nigerians yet you sell your products to them, if they don't have savings do you expect them to steal in order to patronize you? I am highly disappointed with you to say the least,.. From pass post I read about you . You seem to be very intelligent person.. Am starting to feel that am much smarter than most people on nairaland.. And my exposure living outside the country has shape who I am and how things are done in a sane world. So let me explain to you my point of view.. It is only because of you and you only am going to break down my point.... USA is the power house of the world .. Economically no country can stand near us .. We got military, science ,technology than our peers .. The richest person on the planet is an American.. Now with all these advantages Most American leave pay to pay check. A study came years ago and still holds till today ... saying that a large portion of Americans do not have up to $500 stash away for emergency purpose.. Americans are in debt, most leave on their credit cards and most are in student loan debt. Some will be in debt until they are retired.... And crazy thing most don't own their homes.. It belongs to the banks Now if an average Americans are in debt on till their retirement age , what makes it possible for anyone in a third world country will be able to save for retirement or have good savings The economic situation in Nigeria makes it harder for their citizens to save. Nigerian minimum wage is about 30k naira a month, correct me if am wrong. Conclusion...... I am not looking down on Nigerians at all or saying they are not capable of saving money aside. I making more of an excuse for them that due to economic hardship, which is not their fault, but the government fault, that saving will be near hard to do to or almost near impossible .. Hospital bill can send an American into bankruptcy or wipe out their total savings |

Godservant84: Lol, why do you at any chance you get try to demean Nigeria or Nigerians, and you embellish it with words like "the average Nigerian" you do it subtly, I have not been here for long but I have noticed it.
The US or whatever country you usually compare with Nigeria didn't just become what they are today, they had their challenges.
Nigeria may not be all you want now but it will be someday whether you believe it or not.
The funny thing is most guys I have seen talk about Nigeria being this and that are quick to run here to make money because they know Nigeria is a gold mine.
Now, I am not saying Nigeria have it all together, but it will get there, every country has their challenges, it just depends on where you are, at your challenges.
If it's not that you have high moral standard than the average Nigerian, it is that our insurance companies are shit or that the average Nigerian can't save for rainy days, who told you all this?
You can simply say what you want to say without having that air of being better at everything than the " average Nigerian" because you reside somewhere that is supposedly better than Nigeria.
I actually enjoy you when you give out your business experiences, the few times I have come across them, I learn alot from them.. Cheers

radautoworks: Not really, the reason most people don't save is because they try to do it big. If each day N1,000 was transferred into interest bearing savings, an Uber driver would have 30k a month plus interest for each month he's been driving. If you're saying you can't put away 500-1,000 a day, you are in the wrong hustle.
If I'm wrong and this is not possible please set me straight Personal savings in the U.S. The economy might be strong in the U.S., but nearly 70 percent of Americans have less than $1,000 stashed away, according to GOBankingRates' 2019 savings survey. Felicity0001: I sometimes ask myself your motive in business, because come to think of it after considering the cost of maintenance on a car use for transport purpose in nigeria roads if you actually make any profit.
The main purpose of every business is profit but I wonder what your mission truely is!
More grease to elbow though. The young shall grow coy, has been in transportation business for at least 20years . And they are still in business till today, I believe so The transportation profit margin is like a curve, it goes up ,down, middle, sideways etc . It is a good cash flow business if managed well.. Apart from bad roads, fake parts, bad mechanics etc drivers are the major headache of the business.. What matters in this business is how you source for your " raw material '' to run your business. The cost of your raw materials will determine your profit margin.. So in my case my raw material is the cars.. I know the best raw material for the job , in my case ' Honda Civic ' I said this years ago and I contributed to a lot of partners using the civic till now ..... Also another product that I do import personally is Mobil 1 engine oil .. My prices are likely one of the cheapest out there. This is because am not a middle man and I found ways to cut down cost. In reality transportation business is a very tough business, but how you source for your "raw material " will determine your profit margin, some source high and some source low .. And I feel that I have educated and encourage people enough.. And a magician does not reveal all of his tricks . |

Gentlelife50: please don't be offended, thought you said the accident was entirely his fault and that he was beating up for causing the accident? How come he was giving 15k again? Besides you never mentioned it before, by the way by now with your experience (you always impress us with) I expect you to know this is part of the uber business package and that's why it was suggested you run insurance but you claim they are scam. Or you expect someone you accusing of not paying promptly to fix the car or bring the 60k you spent fixing the car? Out of transparency. This is my last explanation..... Now regardless insurance or no insurance it does not give drivers the right to be careless with my car .. After the accident happened, it was stated that he was at fault and he was assaulted for causing the accident. So the police now settle the matter that he should replace the bumper of the car he hit and the owner will pay for the windscreen.. So 15k naira was given to him ,but my total damage exceed 15k naira .. Keep in mind the hood of the car will need to be replaced and painted .. Windscreen will be replace, wiper and wiper motor will need replacement .. So if you do the math the total cost will be at least 40k naira .... Now if you look at the car below , you can tell that he was at fault 100%. There is no argument about it ,maybe he was dragging with another driver and between that he hit the car in front of him or something .. My point is if am doing 100% maintenance of the car . I don't expect the driver to be reckless or drive anyhow. I will hold you to higher standard. The driver will tell you I was good to him. Any car issues arises right away I get it done. I don't tell him to manage the car like that ,I fix the car asap. After all he is not the only driver on nairaland that has worked with me.. Other drivers can vouch for my honesty and integrity... so you can talk about insurance all day or nite you want .. Whether accident or not, we need to hold people accountable for their actions. Things happen ,but it should not be an excuse to misbehave .. People need to be held accountable for their actions. It was the way I was trained and wired. But time to move on. Have forgiven him and wish him the best of luck.. This is my last and final reply on the topic. In a sane world like the USA ,if the driver is at fault . The insurance company will pay damages depending on policy. For the fact that you are fault, you still pay deductible , depending on policy it could be anywhere from $500 to $1000 and plus your insurance rate will go up . For example my yearly premium is $1900. Full complete coverage e.g. fully insured, I have good driving record and I pay about $160.00 monthly .. if I now get into an accident and am at fault . My rate will go up for the next five years or so , and my monthly payment can go from $180.00 a month to $200.00 . Yes it was an accident, but there are consequences for our actions. We need to start holding ourselves accountable .. Please dont say this is Naija and we no dey Yankee. We need to move pass that mentality so that we can have a functioning society. Again I wish Richard the best and time to move on . I will not answer anymore questions regarding the topic...
