lubehouse9ja: you surely know I can't lead my customers astray and I won't judge using my own discretion..
I have study the behaviour of this all under high temperature.. Nigeria don't have that thing they cold start temperature. Lowest 9ja temp should be approximately 12°c but in the USA its something different during winter - 30°c.. That 0w20 will flow better in the USA but no be 9ja wit still hash temperature during winter.. Do you know what happen to oil under high temperature? It will melt down total and becomes like water, you need engine oil that will help you to protect wears, tears and help avoid metal to metal contact under a hash temperature and not under a colder temperature.. Wetin I know self? ..
Even manufacturer mostly state two viscosity on manual.. You need a specialist to tell you the best for your region. Bottom line is for owners to follow manufacture advice at all times..... The oil viscosity has been formulated to meet extreme tempt, cold or hot. If the manual says use 0w20 for all tempt, by advice is to follow . The engineers that design it are in a better position to say so , they are paid big money for the services ,and went to university not trade school ... People should always read the manual that came with car ,not some random car manual .. All the manual instructions I do post, do come from the car manufacture itself. Which you can easily Google it and print it out .. And if people bothers to read the manual, some cars will tell you not to use fuel additives. I notice that people will just add fuel additives without reading the manual. I just shake my heads ...... |

I know I have to replace engine even if I had stayed loyal to the almighty 5w30 synthetic oil so which cry do want to cry because you want to change engine. Yes I will sell the car or you expect me to use it forever? and it won't be out of frustration as you wish. Keep your experience to yourself sir, I have mine. Thanks

lubehouse9ja: if it's here in Nigeria you don't need anything0W it's better you go for Sae 20(5w20) or Sae 30(5w30).. A 5w30 oil is an average for all weather here in 9ja..
If you are using bigger engine like Mercedes, VW, BMW, Fiat, mini Renault and GM dexos.. (you can use the 0w40 and your next service you will need get a 5w40) The chart below illustrates that 0w20 falls under Nigerian weather condition.. Do you know better than the manufacture? Try to be objective in what you write. Encourage customers to follow owners manual at times. Don't lead your customers astray.....

oluwashola4me: Hi, ma'am! Please can I use 0w-40 in place of 5W-20/ 0W-20? Thanks. cc: dru23 Always follow the owners manual at all times. Don't let anyone tell you other wise .. For example 2010 Corolla recommends 0w20 ,which is suitable for Nigerian weather ... The chart below illustrates which the 0w20 can do well .. Naija weather falls under that category.. This is Toyota manual , anybody telling u other wise needs to have their brain check ..

GidiWoodsMan: buying a tokunbo engine is a risk you don't want to take unless you absolutely have to because there's no guarantee you're getting a good one... Plz leave the guy ...He bought the car cheap, didnt do due diligence. That car will become money pit trust me . If you ask him if he did a car report on the car , he will say no .. He will tell you that he brought his mechanic to check the car before he bought it ... that car was likely fix in a such way that people will buy it and would not know the fault until weeks later |

deedee44: I've been using the cheapest 20w50 for over a year and my engine still dey as e dey. No sludge no nothing. Oil was already shortening when it arrived as toks so after using 5w30 3 times I noticed it's either I kill the engine or the engine kills my pocket. I love my pocket more Car is Toyota camry 06 The fact is your car is shorten oil bro .. The tokunbo that you bought, was likely replace with half engine in Nigeria. By the way you sound and act ,you bought the car cheap .. But in your mind u think you bought a good deal, and on the other hand the seller wanted to get rid of a problematic car ... And am sure you didnt check the mileage of the car before you bought it.. Likely the mileage was roll back ... This are the tricks car dealers use for Mr. I know it all like you.. The fact remains the 20w50 that you are using is very thick compare to the 5w30. The bottom line is that 20w50 is buying you time . Last last you go replace that engine.. Your mechanic will tell you that he will ring the engine for you. After few months that car will become a money pit .. Before you sell it ,you would have wasted money . And out of frustration you go sell the car .. The truth is bitter bro .... Laugh now ,cry later .. Have been doing this business for long .. Experince has always been a better teacher. I could laugh now , but what is the point. Enjoy |

radautoworks: Save for a new engine in the meantime. Let someone quote for you so you can start saving now since you're joining the disposable engine school of thought. For now the complete of that engine is 250k naira, without labour. And the cost of shipping container has increased across the board.. So that 250k naira will increase next year |

Epphy: She's right you know... Since it is toks, better to start using recommended oil for it. At the end, cost of oil change is a bit cheaper or same as buying a cheap Mobil XHP.
But on the other hand, if you prefer to change oil often cos you feel high funds for oil change less often is too high & may not be always available, and you plan to sell car off once you notice oil shortening, XHP is your man!
Like in Chuwa's Dad's case, it is not for ehailing and as analysed by Dru23 as well. If you listen to sounds of different engines using recommended and mineral oil after few years, the difference is glaring.
I use XHP though but I know the truth. If I bought a toks for personal use or ehailing today, I would go with recommended oil. Let him use xhp self 20w50... People learn the hard way. There is a reason why I do my own oil change.. I don't let drivers do it .. There is a reason for it , well each to his own .. |

Felicity001: I know see reasons why Dru23 insist on doing all kinds of maintenance himself rather than the driver doing it. because no matter the level of trust a driver will/may not be consistent using the right oil or materials needed to keeping the car sound till the owner gets his capital and profit and also savage value when he decides to hang hands in the business or with the car.
Apart from experience in the business and international exposure I strongly believe dru23 must have either attended Harvard business school or was raised by an old grandfather or something. because, a lane man will think it’s not a wise thing to do in a business setting but looking inward it’s the best approach for the business.
From this knowledge I can make a quote by saying, the profit that comes after many years is far bigger that the one that comes almost immediately or after few years. You are a funny guy . International exposure .. U dey hail be dat |

ajoks533: I really don't understand what you guys are talking about or insinuating with this January and Snow and snow storm period of a thing.
The slowness of January is only but for the first 2 weeks, cos life comes back to norm on the 3rd week when all Offices, businesses, schools and all have resumed.
So, cos the surges are high now cos of the festive season, does it mean other months were bad?
Let's just say there are extra more money made on this kind of period. That does not mean other months are bad.
Please let's stop this kind of mentality. Make your money now and then by January, you go back to normal routine of things.
