radautoworks: It's not a conditional statement. They don't HAVE to do it to get good service from us. It just makes it easier to serve them if they do. If we go the route you suggest we should turn them away.
Some of you can't understand the earnings some drivers claim. Maybe you should ask how they deal with these issues. I guarantee you their attitude is out of the norm and they are not ready to kick riders out of their car at the slightest assumption of a slight. Case in point someone would have cancelled on me when I called them Oga on the phone because they assume I'm belittling them.
A lot of these drivers will say that Nigeria riders are rude. And it is because of Nigeria culture environment, which can be true at times .. But you will get the same rude riders in the USA. The riders in the USA will get you equally as upset as the Nigeria riders.. The same way you want to slap a Nigeria rider , is the same way some USA riders will make you feel.. And if you tell Nigerian drivers to install cameras in their car now .. Most will not do it in order to protect themselves.. If rider is aware that their is a camera in the car, they tend to behave themselves more. Most Nigeria driver fail to know the reason USA drivers have cameras in their ... it is to cut down on the complains that Nigeria drivers are complaining about |

Y1nka: Lmaoooo you overhype your importance sir.
I’m sure most of these drivers have an “international exposure”.. you’re talking baselessly.
I do not support rude drivers, kudos to those who after getting insulted switch of the app to go home, or take a rest. They are the real customer service provider.
While a driver must learn that attitude matters, and like my trainer in UBER said back then,: the person you meet now, you may never meet them again in such a large city, so, why waste your energy”?.
Personally I prepare for the worse and pray for the best when going out for the day, so I’m never disappointed with riders attitude.... cos I was expecting it anyway.
But you always dropping gibberish and unrealistic quote just makes me laugh. I imagine you look like those preachers with red tie, green pants and black shoe.
Oga educated, oga traveler, oga they are not in my level.... wehdone sir!!!

thebosstrevor: customer service is good for SME, big businesses and in the ehailing business, it brings repeated businesses, also businesses also have the right to cut off services to rude customers, because they say Customers is the King does not mean a customer needs to disrespect a service provider.
Companies discriminate when providing good customers services to customers, a customer that brings more cash to a business will be treated better than a customer who brings less cash to a business, this type of treatment happens in every organisations
In the service industry e.g restaurant business, some restaurants will gladly send out a rude customer, even in football, rude customers(fans) are banned from games and club events, some are even given life time ban. in the club business, a club owner will gladly throw out a rude customer if he breaks the rules of conduct.
in as much as a customer wants good services from a business, a customer also must learn how to also show respect to a service provider. where there is no consequences people behave anyhow
For Drivers in ehailing business in Nigeria, you are not an employee of any e-hailing company but a partner, you have the right to cancel on rude rider, stop riders from eating in your car, report rude riders, decide not to communicate or communicate with riders, help or not help a rider move his or her bags, all over the world drivers do that, it is your right. Remember you have no health insurance, pension, leave, leave allowance and other perks that comes with being an employee, also know the difference between slavery and customer service because the outright Nigerian mentality is to enslave people when service is being provided to them, also learn to say NO, just because you are offering customer service does not mean you cant say No to many request from riders
There is a reason why rules in the US does not work in Nigeria because we have different culture and way of life, so i think it will be unfair to put the same standards for what works in the US to judge Nigeria, even many international companies localize how their businesses works in their country of domicile.
Nigeria is a lawless society with angry and unruly people who do not care about others, Many Nigerians are ready to manipulate and take advantage of you if you show any signs of weakness, the average Nigerian will use and destroy your self esteem just because you are offering them a service, as you become very familiar with them they turn you into house boy and house girl, before you know it they want only free services, it is advice able for drivers not to get too friendly with riders, know your boundaries and do not accept unruly behavior from riders. That is why Nigeria is backwards day.. The economic is barely moving forward .. Unfortunately most of you guys can't work in service industry abroad.. Nurses, doctors, policeman, hotel concierge etc .. Do you know the type of sh*t they have to put up with.. And you guys are complaining about Nigerian uber riders been rude.. Most of you guys will end up in jail and out of work in no time.. There was a Nigerian nurse in the USA that has similar attitudes that you guys display here.. The Nigeria nurse was yelling at the patient etc. .. The nurse was fired on the spot.... The nurse was dealing with mental patients... keep in mind in USA a small boy 15 years can tell someone like you old enough to be his father to shut up. Somebody younger than u in abroad can call you by name and tell you hey come here.. Will you now start beating the person up ... people have to learn how to handle rudeness appropriately ....... |

Rubbiish: How is it your concern if he decides to focus his energy on whatever that pleases him? Or u want to be his boss on nairaland for being on the same thread? Someone goes to a mall to buy a bread of less than 200 naira and thinks he or she is a boss? With this kind of mentality u can begin to imagine why we are where we are today as black nation. Often times I begin to wonder if there is a special place for Nigerians on nairaland travelling to USA? They all reason alike & their mentality is shocking to say the least. That was how one agbaya was always disturbing us in property section, wanting all the respect in the world trump wouldn't demand for, only for everyone to discover he was an empty vessel full of sh!t. U guys are worth nothing but will never allow anyone to hear word & same attitude I see reflecting in all your comments and I am wondering if there is a special place for u guys there where they tamper with your brain or inject some hard substance into u guys?

lograr: The kind of environment like USA breeds riders that's different from riders of our environment. Alots of issues that arises here between driver and riders won't happen there.
Like transfer issue or rider wanting you to pick up in a non motorable road/street. Just to mention a few .Calling the cop is a two way thing you see. If a rider do something that may cause a driver to assault a rider the driver will also call the cop for the rider.
Mind you, I have never nor advocating for physical assault. If you refuse to leave my vehicle when i ask you to. I know what to do without breaking any law. There are things you may not understand. Do this work for leisure for just 1 week here then you will understand better. Still, takes sh*t from no body Maybe if it is possible to do research for few months ..we can compare Nigeria riders vs USA in both hostile environment and sane environment.... Years ago before uber, taxi drivers were getting rob and killed in New York and other parts of the US. Even with uber now, drivers were getting assaulted, accuse of rape etc. A lot of drivers starting installing cameras in their car ....If a person is bad, the person is regardless the environment. The best way to curb bad riders in the Nigerian environment is to follow uber policy.... If you are ask to do something against policy of uber . You calmly say no and rate them accordingly .. Most drivers am sure don't even rate their riders.. The rating system is to help weed out bad riders and driver .. So rate them... Now if you can't handle rude riders, that yell and scream etc .. And than you get easily upset and angry.. Uber is not for you.. Because even in the USA you have those type of ghetto riders or co worker that gets you so mad that you just want to land them hot slap.. So if you are landing everyone hot slaps that disrespects you , you either end up in jail or dead.. Yankee is free country, we have more private gun owners than any country in the world.. How you handle situation matters o ... |

lograr: Nigeria is one of the hardest place to survive in planet earth. If we can make it here; We can make it anywhere It is not a matter they can make it anywhere .. But once you are in control environment that has consequences for breaking the law or consequences for their actions. You have no choice other than to complied and behave.... Most of uber drivers in Nigeria saying they can't take sh*t from any rider .. Most would not try that in the USA, regardless of immigration status .. The way you think the outcome might be, might be different from the reality.. . For example you beat up a female rider in the USA, or not even beat her ..You happen to push her and she calls the cops. You thinking that camera no dey na my word against the woman. You already thinking nothing go happen, . The cops shows and sees the rider crying.. The cop will automatically arrest for assault charges. Now you now have to go to court to prove your innocence.. That include getting a lawyer and paying for. And depending on the outcome you might have a record on your file .. You are now out of a job, so what is next after that.. My point is to handle the situation smartly . |

lograr: So we should accept to be treated as trash because it could be rewarding?? Because those who throw 'shiits' at us could turn out to be our helpers? Nonsense! There are countless upon countless of testimonies here of riders who have rewarded drivers here without daunting their " DIGNITY ". If you like be dangote if you respect me i will respect you. I you don't respect me i will treat you accordingly.
I once asked a woman who was commanding and been hostile towards me to get out of my vehicle in a polite manner. She was shocked and said in an apologetic tone that she doesnt know uber drivers gets angry. She called me later on and ask me about something and spoke to me very politely and i responded amicably. What does that tells you? She will stop to treat other drivers as garbage
We are all humans and deserve to be treated as such irrespective of who you are. Nobody should accept to be abuse verbally or otherwise all in name of " he or she will help me"
I have met people who have helped me. I have also helped people too in this hustle and we both treated each other nicely right from the outset.
And as for the "Mega offline trips" what matters is your apperance, state of your car, year of your car and model of your car. Thats all that matters. I know of someone who uses RX 330 Lexus SUV here in Benin. Corolla or Camry doesn't competes with him in terms of earnings. Most of his works comes offline and he is a no Nonsense Man
Shalom At the end of the day, your approach matters when dealing in a hostile situation... A lot of you guys on the forum will not survive Customer care service industry abroad. You either end up in jail or out of a job or both. Nobody is asking anyone to take sh*t from anybody, but learn to handle situation accordingly .... |

AngryIgboMan: You can tell your story to the marines Sir! Any driver that listens to this your advise is at serious risk already. Am a realist and I choose not to be cowed into submission by any bagger rider.
What the likes of you and Dru23 don't understand is that we are all different! It all boils down to temperament. I repeat, IT ALL BOILS DOWN TO TEMPERAMENT. Just as our finger prints are unique, so is our temperament. You don't expect every human being to react same way to similar situations. That same I AM SORRY MA from driver A can become THUNDER FAYA U with driver B.
There are those you will never see react no matter what you throw at them. They are so thick skinned and mean.
But there are people like me who react energy for energy. I GIVE POSITIVE ENERGY FOR POSITIVE ENERGY. I ALSO GIVE DARK ENERGY FOR DARK ENERGY. Thats my principle of survival. I will use 3 different stories of my experience in Uber to illustrate.
Experience 1 (Gbam Gbam Gbam Gbam Gbam Gbam Gbam Gbam)
Me: Hello Ma. Good afternoon. You requested for Bolt. Is this address correct and where are you heading to?
Rider: What kind of stuppid questions are these? Oga please hurry because am late. I don't have time to answer nonsense.
Me: Madam, begin to trek to your destination immediately. Because if you enter my car, sorry is your name.
The woman fear cancel immediately.
Experience 2 (Tulululum Tulululum Tulululum Tulululum)
Me: Hello Ma. You requested for Uber. Am at Lateef Jakande. I want to confirm your address is 100001 Acme road.
Rider: Why are you not on your way yet? Oga am tired of these nonsense from you drivers. Am very late for church. 2 drivers have cancelled on me and I will be very angry with you if you cancel.
Me: Madam is that a threat? Hope you know this is my car right and am not your personal driver? You must behave well mannered if you want this ride to happen. Be courteous of your next words because you lack courtesy.
Rider: You must be very stuppid for implying I lack manners.
Me: Madam THUNDER FAYA You. Nkita lachagi gi anya dia
I cancelled and blocked her line with immediate effect.
Experience 3 (Tulululum Tulululum Tulululum Tulululum)
Me: Hello Madam. Good afternoon. You requested for Uber. Are you at 51b blah blah blah Lekky county homes and where are you heading to
Rider: Hello sir. Good afternoon. Please am heading just close by to buy food. Please don't cancel on me as many drivers have cancelled. Am really hungry. Please will you come?
Me: Am on my way ma.
After Trip, Uber said I should collect 330. Seems she is on small bonus. Madam gave me 400. I told her to keep it coz I wanted her to eat more.
Its my car after all and I can decide who to give free ride or not.
MORAL OF STORY
Ehailing in Nigeria is more of survival. You can be nice and die there being nice. Nobody really gives a fucck about you in this country especially in a cosmopolitan city like Lagos where everybody is mad and angry.
Nigerians are highly exploitative. Most of them that are nice to you is because they are already scheming on how to use you for one ulterior motive or the other. You mentioned he was asking the driver if he was married. What has that question got to do with anything?
In fact to me, that driver is very stuppid for entering the woman's house after the job. What if she accuse him of rape? What if she is a human parts dealer or a drug trafficker? You mentioned Anambra. Am from Ananmbra and am not trying to stereotype. But what if that woman was already seeing the young man as a conduit for drugs to Indonesia or Thailand? So many what ifs!
As far as am concerned, my work with you ends immediately I drop you. Infact, I clear call log after every trip to avoid temptation of calling you back or "keeping in touch".
In summary sir, Being nice in the face of obvious hostility can cost you your life in Lagos or elsewhere in Nigeria. This is not Europe. Things can escalate pretty quickly if you don't act smart.
By the way if I may ask, Dru23 that has been saying things about being enduring and humble in the Service industry in order to become a boss... What has he achieved with his live aside retailing Mobil oil amd arguing with people on Nairaland?

topsydee007: I agree with u..some riders are just rude since they were conceived . I have experienced a rider shouting on the phone even when I have not even gotten to pick up location. For me...I simply reply them. If he/she cannot wait for me to arrive or is not comfortable with anything...simply cancel.
At times. .giving rider impression that u are not desperate to make a trip will make them calm down ..
I hate personally when someone request a ride..let's say u are going to the airport. Your flight is 4pm ..u request a ride 3:30pm especially long distance and traffic route...and u are shouting on the driver to drive like James bond or to jump the traffic. Is it my fault that u left home or office late. Why should I bear the risk of your lateness.
I politely tell them am not the reason for their lateness as I can't drive above my speed limit. ..as far as am concerned ..safety comes first....I will also them dem.if you ain't comfortable..I can park so u take another rider. Forget the money....I bet u....they will shut up. Another good way of handling the situation.. No need to yell or scream at anybody ....it is all about how you handle the situation that matters. |
