Chuwaa: Well the issue of type of oil type will continue to rage and I agree with dru and Gazzuz. However maintenance is key. My father uses big daddy since 2015 and the car is still as sound as ever because he has only covered 13000miles in four years, he uses Mobil 1 or whatever, that type they sell 4k or so and he services every 3months till I forced him to change every 6 months as a compromise.
Personally I use full synthetic and I usually change after 5000miles when the 'maintenance required' light comes up, but now I will extend it to 7,500miles, the 18,700 oil no be small money o. Your father is not driving the car that often, so the damage of wrong use oil will not quickly show .. The more miles he puts on the car , the more the engine wears out due to the wrong use of oil.. Another example , I have a cab man that I use whenever am in the country, he is like a family friend now . He drives big daddy Camry 05, his older brother got it for him in the USA .. The guy uses the car for private services, he refuses to do uber because of low fares. I encourage him to use the correct oil and he refuses and instead he uses the Mobil for 4k naira . He takes good care of the car body wise and engine wise. I also encourage him to use coolant instead of water. The Camry he uses now is shorten oil. And he ask me to get him tokunbo engine . I told if he had use the right oil he would not be asking me for tokunbo engine.. But he said he had use the car for two years , and the car has tried as per nigerian condition etc .. I just shake my head ,now he is looking to sell his problem to somebody else ..Keep in mind the car looks very clean in and out . He travels within Lagos and outside Lagos . His attitude towards cars is not different from most of you guys . And he is very picky about cars he buys .. I even refuse to sell him my Camry tokunbo that I had. I didn't want any issues down the line.. He is type of guy if you try to sell him a lemon he will know .. |

Gentlelife50: As for your question Sir, I change oil every 3000-3500 miles. Depending on how the spirit ministers to me, and I also take into consideration the traffic because while the car is stationed or idle it is steaming
Anytime I service I set trip and watch it My guess is that you are using the car for uber. So give or take you are doing oil change roughly every month. Now the cost of oil change is roughly about 2k naira ,unless you are doing your own oil change. Which I advice against , or better yet kazzem the road side mechanic does it cheaper.. And am sure the kazzem is not properly draining the old oil before he puts the fresh.. And am sure Kazzem is likely pouring too much oil in the engine . Which in the long run will spoil your car. By the time you add up the cost of changing oil every 3k miles to 3500k miles, the cost of oil itself ,labour and oil filter. Is this cost effective for you.. Keep in mind anytime you do oil change , you have to change oil filter too. |
Business › Re: If You Are Uber Partner In Lagos, Please Share Your Experience Here by dru23(m): 3:01pm On Dec 23, 2019 |
Gentlelife50: But wait ooo, can you allow your car go roughly 12,000 kilometers without changing it plus the oil filter? In this busy Lagos or as an ehailing driver? Just asking ooo We had a discussion on that .. I stated with the Mobil 1 extended oil that is good for 15k miles. I stated that I don't wait till 15k miles ,I do change at 10k miles, and most will be 12k miles. And the oil filter I use is good for 15k miles oil change. The oil filter I use I sell it for 2k naira , which is the same price that sells for ladipo for normal filter... You mention Lagos traffic , we need to frequently change the Air filter .. Besides that how often should we change oil when using other less expensive oil ? |

Gentlelife50: You can't fight it, a lot of people use the regular Mobil Unless the few partners that service their cars by themselves and they want to take good care of their cars according to you apart from that most Uber drivers buy Mobil and pour there and it have been serving them at least for now. Yes u are rite .. Because most dont know better, and most partners are very ignorant about maintainence . And the winner at the end of the day. Are parts dealers in Ladipo .. There was guy on the forum. He said the previous owner of Honda 2014 was using 20w50 oil ... He wanted to know if thats the right oil .. I just laugh and shake head. Do you know the cost of 2014 civic engine? Smh |

Gentlelife50: This oil issue sometimes is overrated, just use the regular oil most people use and service promptly. That's what matters, especially as an Uber driver. The point is service car promptly, not serving on time kills the engine faster.
That way the Engine lasts for years, abi the car go outlive you? If the engine spoil after some years buy another one So if he decides to use the ones everybody uses , which is 20w50 .. And how often will he have to change oil promptly? With full synethic oil you can go as far as 7k miles or more depending on the brand of oil . Now the 20w50 which to start with is the wrong oil, how long can go before he changes oil? The question remains is it cost effective? .... People like you are the reason why am against buying Nigerian used cars... Your next reply is am protecting my business, because I sell oil .. But I not only sell oil , I also use what I sell... |

zubby147: Good morning sir..I'm planning starting an e hailing biz this January 2020.i have done alot research on cars.i have 3 cars in mind: 2005 toyota corolla 2010 honda civic 2006 toyota camry.
sir which car you think is better in fuel consumption and maintenance based on your experience? thanks so much. The ones that am currently using now , Elantra 08, Civic 03 to 05. The civic has the best in fuel consumption and maintaince .. But ground clearance is what the Elantra has a bit of edge 2005 Corolla is a good choice. You can't go wrong.. 2010 Civic ...I can't say much on 2010 Civic ,because I only use 03 to 05. Camry ....Big daddy is ok ,but it is a 2.4liter engine .. For uber business from 2.0 liter engine down is best for fuel economy |

GentleChief: Guys please I have an 04 camry. Whats the best oil to use and service it for optimum performance?
I don't need all those very expensive oils. I need a good oil that serves well but not pricey.
Please camry bolt uber drivers, whats the basic oil I can go for?
The engine cap has 5w30 written on it? Is that what I should use?
NB The car is a Tokumbor and this is the first servicing. Nothing good comes cheap.. 5w30 is the reccomended oil for your car .. Am out of USA Castrol, I would have reccomended the oil to you ..Mobil 1 oil USA 17k ,might be too pricy for you.. But whatever oil you buy, make sure it is original and right weight ( meaning 5w30) if you use the 20w50 aka engine oil killer .. You are on your own be that .....either way good luck ... |

I mention 03 to 05 Honda civic .. This is talking from experince, the only issue with civic is low ground clerance. Changing the tires and rims from 14 to 15 might help. Am thinking of doing it on the next civic I put up for uber.. Nigerian used cars: I bought all my cars tokunbo, I am not a big fan of Nigerian used cars. Most Nigerian used cars have been abused and maintainence neglected.. Most times the seller is selling you his problem. So unfortunately I can't give advice on that .. Even if I tell you to take a mechanic to look at the car . There are certain issues that you wouldnt known until after driven the car for few weeks or months .. It is a 50/50 chance you taking.... |

nitigriti: Yesterday afternoon at the office (we work on Saturdays!), I ordered a Bolt for a customer that flew in from Abuja. It was a courtesy ride for the customer and it was to take him from our office to his hotel in Lekki.
As soon as Bolt rider came, I told him the company was paying for the trip. Trip estimate is #2400-#3000. I asked him, should I give him #3000 cash upfront, let him do the trip and once he ends the trip, if the fare is less than #3000, he can take the change. If however the trip fare is more than #3000, then he can call me and I can transfer the balance to him. He said the arrangement would not work for him; so I asked if he would do the trip and I then transfer the trip fare to him at the end of the trip. He agreed to that.
Patrick did the trip and about three hours later, he ended it. Then he called me. "Oga, the trip has ended. Your guest has gotten to the hotel. The trip fare is #4,900." I told him "Ok, hold on; let me check my trip receipt." I checked, I didn't see any receipt. I called him back and told him, "I can't see any trip receipt. Are you sure you've ended the trip?" He said he ended the trip but did not confirm it because I had not paid him yet. I told him this is me ready to transfer #4900 to him, but that I need to see the receipt. And besides, you know my office in case I scam you. He didn't agree to confirm the trip. We argued on confirming or not confirming the trip for more than 40 minutes on the phone. He didn't agree. I then told him I'm not calling him again until I see a trip receipt. I then sent him a series of messages in the app requesting that he confirms the trip and also send his account details so I can pay the #4900 trip fare.
The guy confirmed the trip after 45 minutes. I got my trip receipt a few minutes later. My trip receipt reads #2,600.
So I called the idiot and asked him how much he called the fare was again. He said #4900. I told him my trip receipt is reading #2600. He said the trip was on surge, that didn't I know? I told him, Oga, if the trip was on surge, I will know at the time I ordered. The trip wasn't on surge. He insisted that the trip fare is #4900. I said Okay, he shouldn't worry. I will transfer the #2600 I can see on the trip receipt and that he should report me to Bolt for not paying the rest. The guy now said something like he can never take that. That in fact, he's coming to my office to cause trouble.
That just got me annoyed.
I told him that I would report him and this trip to Bolt and I will not pay him anything until I hear from Bolt since he wants to be fraudulent by force. You had every right to ask for a receipt .. And based on the receipt. You should pay and complain to bolt .. Certain things you don't need to get upset about.. Anyone can tell that the driver is a scammer ... ... |

calabardick: In case like this you should have simply ask him to send you the snapshot of his app that shows the claimed amount. Please don't withhold his money.
For days now dru23 have been preaching about customer's relationship, and that remind me of the story JohnWell put here about approach, humility and appearance.
I don't do bolt but severally I've heard of complaints here concerning the app misbehaving, if he encountered any problem he should've politely explain it to the rider.
I still insist that this job approach is the paramount. Thank u my brother |

From the link posted by dru23,
" Police were called to the KFC on Oct. 28 after 33-year-old Jonelle Dare reportedly SHOT AT the WINDOW"
There was shooting in this case but nobody was shot. No casualty. Read the article well. There is difference between shot and shot at.
Secondly, the link Posted stated "Witnesses say it was because she didn't receive a fork and napkin with her order". Not SAUCE
So i stand by my statement :
"No such story of a drive through employee been shot because of sauce on the internet" Lol.. Funny guy u be ... So when she shot at drive through window. Who was she shooting at? She shot at an employee that was attending to her.. Lucky enough nobody got it .. The intention of the shot, was to hurt the target, not to wish the target a merry Xmas and happy New Year. Whether nay fork or spoon or sauce. The point is as much as crazy nigerian uber riders are rude, no manners feel entitled etc .. We have crazy people in the USA, people will be rude and ungrateful regardless of color of skin, race financial capacity, type of environment etc .. You have to learn how to deal with the situation.. |
