Why do u think nairaland has a quick page load time? undecided It's simplicity!
A simple html button doesn't even affect the load time at all.

Epicnaija.com is a tag-based forum written in python. It uses tags to categorize topics. This makes it easier to find what you are looking for, as well as keeping what matters to you most close; this is because you can follow a particular tag and thence every time a topic is created for that tag you will be notified through email or through in-site notifications.

The whole forum was written in less than two months, by me alone. So you don't expect it to be totally flawless; nonetheless, its usable. This is no competitor to nairaland or any other big forum out there. I just deployed yesterday. I'm not trying to be better than anybody, just trying to see this work and make a living out of it. again, no comparison please. I just plead on you guys to register and participate any time you can.

And as programmers, please i need your comments, suggestions, corrections., etc. on the speed, usability, simplicity and other things. and what do you guys also think about how the tagging is implemented?

Software/Programmer Market / Re: Full Social Network Script That Work And Look Just Like Facebook Built Php OOP by dsypha(m): 12:04am On Aug 03, 2014
Let me open your eyes to some issues. There's more to what you see on facebook. You might have gotten the interface right, but that thing you wrote, I mean that horrible thing you came up with a language such as PHP, won't scale. It won't even handle 100 typical facebook users elegantly. When I mean typical facebook user I don't mean comment and go, I mean someone who is commenting, uploading a folder of more than 10 pictures on another tab, liking akpos jokes on another tab, and participating in more than 5 real-time user to user chat on yet another tab. Just imagine 100 people doing this at the same time with a backend as shitty as PHP, the app will simply retire. And in all goodness I don't know what ever you mean by ajax chat. Please don't be deceived. It takes more than ajax to implement that user to user chat you see on facebook. You need something like websockets, something that actually scales.

Anyways nice design. People always get their design right, am terrible at design. Started wondering if am actually cursed with design.

I hope with this few points of mine, I have convinced you to simply think of a better idea, or simply put, drop the dream. angry

Please don't take it personal, am not saying your code is bad, but what am saying is, actually, the chase is a dead-run. Do something better, Facebook aint having a competitor soon.

pcguru1: The Criteria is simply interest, intelligence, agility, mindset and the drive, honestly as long as you are interested just go for it, times have changed when i was learning web development, it was dhtml on NL that taught me and advised and then there was no such thing as Udemy, Codeacademy then i had to either photocopy aptech books or read on it online from random places and mostly trial by error. as long you have the drive just apply, Writing code is nothing special even a monkey can do that, what sets anyone apart is the passion and interest. hope i answered well.
writing good code is bro. There are bad codes every where. Will you say they are not code. Takes way beyound knowin the syntax!

Programming / Re: OOP Encourages Artificial Relationships: making namespaces scriptable by dsypha(m): 11:42pm On Jan 01, 2014
This post is misleading. What is the most reason people use OOP, You tink it is to avoid duplicating code? Sadly, No. The encapsulation and abstraction benefits has led many people to use it. Clients of an Object being able to use Code without knowing how that code looks like, Hiding implementation details, and providing an interface's motive is clear and Understood. In your words, You mean to say creating instances of an object wastes memory, sadly that's true. and to that you resolve to using static members or classpaths, editing classpaths for a single app that needs it, to me is overkill. Earlier I said the paramount reason people use oop is because of its encapsulation benefit which if used to the best advantage can save a lot of Frustration. Now the question is does static members gurantee that Benefit? Wen u have hundreds of clasz that depends on the implementation of a single static method else where, can u easily change that method's implementation without breaking codes that rely on it? To me, The memory waste encountered wen creating instances is negligible. It is worth it. And maybe u coming from languages like Java, C# and d likes that does garbage collection for u. ppl with a C++ bacground.won't have a problem. In cases as trivial as ur isNull example, u can create an instance of the object containing that method and imediately after accessing the method, discard that instance by setting its value to null. Its that easy....

it's good to air your views it cud help som1. You wudnt know oddity if it tapped you on the shoulder ,going by your retort, and i'm no way regarding myself as deviant at all. Most of the essays i post here are actually supposed to be on a blog post judging by their lenght and tone. But i dump them here out of well, for airg sake.
If you see oddity how cud u differentiate it from unconventionality?
Wat criteria dyu use?
But using a term tht denotes wrong skewed thinkg suggests you are using a yard stck tht differentiates the skewed/perverse from the logcal.
Which begs the question of wat criteria dyu use.

Its surprising how you would say this.

Isn't your being odd on this thread obvious enough?? everyone is either praising the op or advicing him. And you? what did you do? talking about how people do more web than desktop, how the op is more of a web person than mobile or desktop, how web is easier, how web is overhyped, how desktop geeks do it for fun. and I couldn't see how all this is related to this thread we are on
.

Just saying though. It is really none of my business. I might be helping someone. who knows?
Programming / Re: My New Start Up, Life As A Programmer And Testimony. by dsypha(m): 10:50pm On Dec 20, 2013
kambo: Nice story. Wat i gleaned is that you're more of a web devoloper cum mobile dev cum core dev.
I'm creatg distinctions here.
Your success route is also typical since web dev is easier and seemingly more lucrative than desktop dev. It seemed desktop guys ar just doing it for fun or roastg.
I was anticipatg a story of a desktop/enterprise dev but nevertheless its an encouraging read.
I just feel web dev is over hyped and that hard core programmers are superior to web developer come rain come sun anyday even though theyre not presently receivg (or may never) the recognition and remunerations they deserve.

I've failed to see the reason behind this your comment. I've been watching you for quite a while now, You seem to talk more odd than otherwise. Just my observation though, I might be wrong.

@Op, Weldone. You've done a really good job. I always knew u were worth the hype. Keep it up and may Almighty God see all of us thru.

The third year I am back to Swift paying N6000 for 24hours internet 7gb
Now I am using Glo bolt, just bought it last week and it's the fastest ive seen so far. I bought glo because I am travelling out of Lagos this christmas so I need a network that can work anywhere like in Abuja-Jos-Gombe-Billiri. To my supprise Glo is very fast...streaming youtube like on wifi

Swift and Spectranet are very okay too I can recommend them any day anytime but I think I will stick to glo bolt from now.
