Business › Re: Recommend A Side Hustle For Me by duality(m): 5:44pm On Jun 18, 2019 |
IjebuWarrior: I won't recommend that! An average Nigerian can't afford the actual cost of standard 'Tokunbo' cars (Not the high-mileage ones). UNLESS, there's a ready customer. A standard 'Tokunbo' car (driven with basic 9ja care) should at least last 5-yrs before exhibiting any common/basic 9ja problems. Anything less na rubbish.
A friend saw a local 9ja-driven car for N2M and would like to send the same N2M in $$$ equivalent to acquire a similar car in the U.S. The thing is, there're so many factors that majority Nigerians aren't aware of. Sure, I can get his choice of car for that N2M (logistics included) but, it'll be a very high mileage with little or low life left before it starts exhibiting the Real/common/basic 9ja problems.
After so much deliberation, I advised him to either buy the 9ja driven on or spend at least ~30% extra to get a standard well driven Tokunbo one. He went ahead with the 9ja one and after 7-mths, he got really frustrated, sold it, added extra money and sent to me to acquire a much better one. I did. He's driven it for >4-yrs and counting... Not a single major problem other than necessary preventative maintenance.
This is cost of logistics alone (Remember North America no be Europe... Distance): Let's assume it's gonna be a 2010 Toyota Corolla. Naira equivalent of $1 to N360
Cost of shipment from U.S / Canada: Container: ~$1300 - $1500 (N468K -N540K) depending on the part of the country. If it's not close to the ports, you'll have to spend extra to ship to the port ~$300-$600 (N108K - N216K) Cost of Clearing (Clearing Agent) and Tariffs: ~N400K - N500K based on the size, year and model of the vehicle.
So, now do the math... (N976K - N1.2756K) alone for shipping and clearing... excluding the actual cost of the car itself. Of course, RO-RO is also another option but, the differential is gonna be <N70K Bros, will it be nice to ship say 99/2000 models of cars. Will it be cheap relative to getting it in 9ja? |

9jaRealist: Let there be cost-reflective tariffs for whatever is presently be supplied... The present tariff regime ensures that DISCOs will never have the balance sheet to invest in capacity upgrades (they are NOT bankable).
The irony is that (whether they know it or not) Nigerians are already paying the real cost of electricity... Either directly by paying for generators and fuel to power same or indirectly through the opportunity cost of not having power. > Right now Nigerians are paying too much, will /should not pay more until the reliability issues are resolved. |
Politics › Re: Osita Chidoka: "Fuel Station Depends On Solar Panels For Electricity Now" by duality(m): 2:22pm On Jun 17, 2019 |
tactius: Ok...I know I'm going to be called names for this, but here goes.
Several years ago, we privatised power...and since then power has been in private hands.
And one of the biggest problems has been financing. Yes, financing of power.
A lot of Nigerians don't pay for power. Add the fact that the bills we are paying are set below the actual cost of power. This has driven away investors, and we fail to attract new ones.
As a result, DISCOS and GENCOS don't have enough money. Last year, one of the DISCOS gave up and handed back over to the government because it was not making enough money to do business properly.
And the fact is, millions of Nigerians feel ENTITLED to free power. You know, if you guys were running businesses, and people came in and took your products for free...you would be wiped out financially.
If we want power to work...government has to allow the DISCOS charge for power. YES...power will cost a lot. YES...we would be paying N30000 and above per month. And the DISCOS should meter everyone(which is what is happening with MAP by the way).
But the thing is POWER IS PRIVATE....and POWER is now a business.(and ironically Chidioka's government was the one responsible for privatising power). And the reason why we are only seeing 5-6 hours of light per day...is because THAT IS WHAT OUR BILLS CAN PAY FOR.
Let's be realistic. If Nigerians can pay for Telcom services, they can pay for electricity. Let it be reliable, let there be proper metering. Until then, they are not serious. |

Politics › Re: INEC Owns Data Centers, There Shouldn't Be Arguments About Servers - Photo by duality(m): 10:48am On Jun 17, 2019 |
Mightyodi: There is no way INEC would say they don't have server. Ask a database administrator they would tell u that without server the card reader cannot read a PVC. Card reader synchronizes strings(data) stored in a database connected to a server. The database can be retrieve from anywhere when it connect with the server. From there you can authenticate the thumb prints input it card reader if it matches with that stored in the database retrieved from the server. So there must be a server somewhere You are right. That's why they were able to replace damaged card readers and reconfigure them two days to election |

Mraphel: They should get it from Atiefku or inec server. Is rude, arrogant and shameful to dictate to the president Buhari this way
"What happened to Igbos are not interested in Nigerian politics, we are only after our businesses "?
Yorubas did not threatened to leave the country the time they lost the election. Why always IGBOS. When Yoruba demanded positions from Goodluck Jonathan that they voted in high numbers for, my people insulted that hell out of them. Dullnathan supported them by giving the Yorubas nothing but expecting vote from their region.
Did you know it was when my people supported Goodluck Ebele Jonathan he became a pure badluck looser?
Jonathan marginalized the people of the South West that gave him the highest votes in the Southern part. My Igbo amateur political orators hailed his gestures. This led to his downfall. When the table turns around, and your brothers starts complaining, don't keep quiet at that point. Be wise. |

hisexcellency34: Why can't Jonathan think of this instead of UNILAG? You wouldn't have still appreciated it. A great university like unilag, would have best immortalized Abiola than a stadium with little activities. Go to Edo state, which of the two has more recognition. -ABROSE ALLI UNIVERSITY or SAMUEL OGBEMUDIA STADIUM Imagine having Ahmadu Bello University. Usman Dan fodio University, Obafemi Awolowo University and MKO University. Truth is, this is a weak recognition compared to having him recognized with a university. Of course, those who think they know so much will celebrate buhari and insult GEJ but they know nothing. All the Abiola noise will soon end. |
