@mikeoh. People like this entity are the reasons why the system is not working. The education systems are meant to be complementary. It is failure of Nigeria govt to understand the need for both poly and uni that has aggravated the situation. The ploys are suppose to produce manpower to feed the economic backbone. The govt should have encouraged them with better funding and removal of discriminatory treatment. The ND curriculum is no tea party for those who have experienced it. For all you know you in a semester, you could be required to enroll for 12 solid courses. Some of us have experienced both poly and uni education systems. Therefore, be guided you ignorant entities. |
I live a couple of kilometers from the flight path to MM airport and sometimes imagine that these planes could crash on houses. Little did I know that my imagination will sooner materialize to reality. Property buyers and prospective tenants beware! Dana airline! I decided to board one a year and half ago from Abuja. My first impression was that of a refurbished aircraft. With lax regulation and corrupt regime, what do expect from these Asian merchants? It is painful because this is clearly preventable. NCAA and FAA, what are you doing? |
@poster I like your courage and business acumen. I have also read the posts of many who have patronized your services. However, I do not know how many of the posters have taken the pain to visit your location at the parts market near Oyinbo. I do not intend to de-market you but I wish to volunteer a few suggestions I believe could help in the business. Build your brand and image by doing the following: 1. change your business location away from the crowded market 2. get a good workshop and equip it properly. recruitment trained staff. It is better than using a roadside mech. 3. Ensure your parts supply line is genuine. Though I do not know your supply line 4. Please don't cut corners; be honest 5. Then be ready to expand your business again. |
ecel: I'm still waiting for the time for our institutions to start awarding certificates in Bricklaying, Shoe Making, Fashion Designing etc. These are the real pillars of emerging economy. If Nigeria put more human and financial resources into these class of profession to bring out quality working men/women rather than graduating thousands of kidnappers and prostitutes every year without planned future. My opinion has been for the government to bring back technical education and start awarding certificates in various courses in these class of economy. Unless we change, I don't see Nigeria among developing nations in the next 50 years.I have always maintained this position that education policy makers are getting it wrong in de-emphasizing vocational and technical education. With too many "high level" degree certificate holders looking for white collar job, more and more are being churned out. The polytechnics have critical roles to play in technology development. There is a serious shortage of low and medium level manpower which the Polys can supply. They only need to address a few concerns: 1. review the curriculum for HND and stop the discrimination in public service. 2. polytechnics should be allowed to offer degree programmes as well, provided they pass NUC accreditation. Abroad many colleges and polys are allowed to do so 3. create a academic progression path and ease of conversions for ambitious students. 4. emphasize quality, ability and skills instead of paper qualifications 5. Fund all technical schools and Polytechnics adequately. |
Please be careful with them. Ask questions! From what I know about them: the university appears to hide behind the consult to make money by using a separate registered corporate body to run programmes. Their certificates are usually not signed by the same signatories that sign the regular graduates' from the main campus. I guess they do not want to run foul of NUC's regulation on satellite campuses. Once more be careful! |
First bank has its strength in safety of deposits. If you are looking for excellent customer service, you may have to look elsewhere. First bank appears to be comfortable with their low cost of funds achieved through a huge untraceable fund left over by entities over the decades of operation. No pressure for new customers. |
I can remember when last I allowed my kids to watch such movies. Years back I placed a blanket ban on watching such inappropriate movies. |
Mercedes Benz ML430 -too expensive to maintain and Nissan Sunny - Never. Give it to Honda and Toyota products any day. Runaway from used BMW, cool only if new. |
Let me make some comments here based on my personal experiences with 3 popular hospitals often cited in this forum -Lagoon, St Nicholas and R-Jolad. St Nicholas: - Too expensive and poor value for money: My baby underwent a couple tests in a day and got billed 70k. Consultation fee for a specialist cost me 10k. -Unethical: I had a simple stomach cramp and quickly got admitted for surgery (appendicitis) even when their test suggested otherwise. I nearly had heart attack when administered a medication. Next day, I practically yanked off all intravenous stuff connected to stuff and left in annoyance. - Poor Sanitation: Try the some of the wards. I got a flint to rid the room of roaches -however, they are well-equiped; dialysis, mri, ct scan etc R-jolad: -Good customer service -overcrowded -attempts to target all segment of society -lack of space -not well equipped for a world class clinic Lagoon: No further comment -just the best I have being to their Apapa, VI and Ikeja facilities. they have good partnership with foreign clinics Value for money Excellent sanitation I don't mean to de-market any. just to encourage them to improve -need to improve their sanitation |
Accountants may be good at debiting, crediting and balancing. Are they able to give good account of themselves when it all matters? Where are the accountants and auditors aiding and abetting corrupt practices. All govt. agencies/ministries have them; we have the accountant/auditor generals; the banks have them in abundance. Where has happened to the controls? Collusion? Can anybody provide notable evidence that they have lived up to their professional and related ethical standards? |
Let's get real and dump this certificate mentality. A friend recently advertised for a driver and instantly got 4 applications from BSc holders. The jobs are not there. Make the best with your HND and move up. PGD and professional qualification is the way. HND is BSC equivalent. If you are asked to differentiate a pack of degree and HND holders without looking at their CVs, would you achieve it correctly. HND and Bsc are meant to compliment each other. I know of an HND holder supervising 3 Bsc holders in a workplace. Don't waste your money and time. Besides, before you graduate you probably would have past the prime age of 25-28 for very good jobs. |

I bought 2 for my 2008 model recently after i failed to get the right size of Dunlop brand from their warehouse at Ojodu. I have my fears for tyres bought from the general importers. S.O.N is not regulating standards as expected and China is very ready to manufacture any spec requested from greedy importers. My advice is: always source your tyres from registered sole distributors of tested brands such as Dunlop. I am not sure they are still manufacturing here. There more expensive though. |
I have read several posts here and have reasons to believe that @Rick Ross has valid points. In Nigeria, we only know "university". Outside (abroad) we often hear the term "higher education". You hardly hear of any squabbles on certificates be it degree, associate degree, HNC, HND and others. I read in the news today about a university trying to prune 17,000 "qualified' candidates to 3,000 places available in the school. The emphasis on university is rather sickening. The reality is that the economy is not prepared for lopsided labour supply. Vocational and technical offerings are ignored almost totally both by the government and the governed. Go to several oil companies and multinationals operating in the country. Most of the the expatriates did vocational studies and are the bosses of COREN certified Nigerian engineers. My Position: Primary/Secondary schools are necessities. Higher education -polytechnics/universities (degrees & HNDs) are optional. People should stop going after the crowd. Make no mistake, there are needs for high level manpower such doctors, lawyers teachers etc. But there greater needs for low/middle level manpower - technicians, artisans etc. Policy makers are expected to recognize these needs. It pays to abolish the dichotomy in higher education in Nigeria |
@ georgee My advice to you is to work out your salvation. Jesus' many statements in the sacred scriptures show that you do not need to expect everyone to conform to righteous standards. The pharisees and scribes of his day were in the majority but lacked accurate knowledge of God's will. Recall that those ancient religious leaders were highly educated but never understood the spirit of the law. |
From the pages of the scripture, there are clear distinctions between Jesus and God. Jesus referred to his father as the "only true God" (Joh 17:3). In John 20:17, Jesus referred to his father as his "God". Of course, you can recall that he prayed to his father so many times. Jesus often referred to his father as the one who sent him forth. Jesus never claimed equality with his father There are many more bible references I can provide if you need more. |
Fellow engineers, I have a little challenge. I am currently using a backup inverter made by Mercury marketed by Corcharis Ltd. But it does not have an inbuilt. power level monitoring meter. Sometimes the battery drains suddenly. please does anybody know of a particular product ( meter) that can solve this problem. |
@CHAIRCOVER I want to thank you for your response. |
Please does anyone have an information of a good creche in the area indicated? Feedback is desired urgently. |
I have some friends who work for Discount Houses and they vowed that they cannot work for any bank. Though small in size, but they are very stable. I have not heard of any distress in that sector. I understand they are highly regulated like banks. FSDH and Kakawa are the leading DHs. |
Standing Next to History and Oprah by Kitty Kelly -quite good and interesting |
I am currently applying to renew my 2-year visa. I intend to make it 10 years is charged about N152k. However, I saw this information on the UK Visa website :Refunds will not be given if long term visit visas are granted for less than the period applied for. I need to know my chances of being granted 10-year term. What are they looking at? |
It interesting to read all these posts of likes and dislikes. Permit me to add that experience shows having confirmed all the desirable qualities, prayers are extremely vital in choosing a good mate. Why, you may ask. You may never know the true heart, inner person until after you say 'I do'. Many Prospective mates are known to art or play or put up another personality just attractive certain persons. I have seen many romantic relationships end up miserable. Bachelors/spinsters, mark this post. |
A tenant relocated from a rented apartment and left the with the keys. He is not owed anything and has refused to handover the apartment to the landlord even as his rent expired. How can the apartment be repossessed without resorting to the law courts? If the apartment is forced open, he make spurious claims. Are there 3rd parties that can be used to witness the break-in, such that in a class action by the former tenant, such a witness' statement could be admissible as legal evidence. Lawyers and estate agents in the house, what are your opinions? Other house member with similar experience could share it as well. |
This thread is designed to host business opportunities that members see everyday. This is to enable forum members and other prospective entrepreneurs take advantage of such opportunities. Please note that one easy way to discover an opportunity is by looking at services/products that are in short supply or not provided in a particular area. For instance, I discovered one recently. There is a need for general goods shop(supermarket) at Lagos-Island mainly for workers at Marina/Broad Street. Most us here head for Park 'n Shop and Mega Plaza every evenings for shopping. Onikan Shopping mall opposite Muson Center is still basic. The traffic along V/I axis usually creates serious bottleneck. Affordable vacant shops along Marina/Broad Street abound as some businesses have closed shop. |
I am currently running windows Vista and in need of upgrade to Windows 7 Professional edition. Please does anyone know of any reputable vendor that can be contacted. |
My little baby used regular blue pen to design zigzag on my leather seat. I have tried regular cleaning method without success. Does anyone know what I can try |
A company has approved for purchase some set of new honda cars from accredited dealers. Honda Place does not have the Elite version, 2.0 or 2.4 liter engine (usually with leather seat). I have since been shopping from other dealers without success. Car Link Ltd appears to have something close. i was shown a 2.4 American spec. I wasnt very comfortable with their offer. The engine compartment looked rather rough, the interior does not have the usual "tear rubber" feel. The seats are bare, though they explained that the warehouse was rather rough and dusty and they were also hesitant in releasing the VIN number before payment. I havent dealt with them before and have little experience brand new cars. Has anyone in the house had any dealing with them before? They promised 3-year warranty. How trustworthy is that when the cars are from America? What's your experience with their maintenance? Please let's comment on the offer above and any alternative where available. Preferably with valid warranty and VIN report. |
