mu2sa2: All these hired agents and ipob miscreants spewing verbiage on a straight forward matter. Very lazy people, they won't read and will be commenting. Kemi was accused of presenting a forged Nysc exemption certificate. The woman has brilliantly established her innocence in her resignation letter. She has resigned honourably, something so rare in this part of the world. God bless her more. Let's be clear on this: she cannot be charged for forgery because she didn't forged the exemption certificate nor presented it knowing that it was not genuine. She innocently presented the same certicate to Ogun State legislature as far back as 2011 and was cleared to serve as finance commissioner. Again, in 2015, DSS cleared the same certifcate for her to be appointed minister. Where is the woman's fault or Buhari's offence here? God bless you more Kemi. Altho you were born, schooled and raised in UK you chose to come and serve your fatherland and you served diligently. You deserve a national award - where many will steal and loot you served honestly. You are known to be a bornagain, I urge you not to take offence with people who belong to the same faith as you but are wickedly calling for your head because of political or ethnic sentiments - they are all fake.
From all the posts so far, that Kemi is so loved by very many is not in doubt.
But the law of the land has been breached and there ought to be consequences:
1. Kemi admitted vide her emotional-ladden letter that she relied on what she thought were 'trusted associates' to procure the now discredited certificate. This is a big issue. She will be tasked by court and prosecution to produce the associates. And if the associates fail to admit the crime, hmmmmmmm......
2. This scandal has exposed an even bigger scandal - what verification does DSS carry out before clearing a candidate for public office? Who in DSS cleared Kemi? How did the Ogun State House of Assembly not detect this problem? These are the pertinent questions. In saner societies, a full-blown enquiry will be opened on this. It's not just about Kemi and the forgery.
But typical of us (shìt hole), expect the matter to be swept under the carpet any moment. What a national Shame!
NgeneUkwenu: This man is an idiot for saying this...I mean how do you entrust our money for someone is alleged to have forged a certificate? Useless beings!
Butterflyleo: If you do not have data kindly borrow or buy. This is an IBO man who is aiming at being the APC governorship flagbearer in Enugu dropping facts for those who have forgotten.
The Igbo miscreants here on nairaland political section need to constructively criticise his comments let's see if anything Kenneth said were lies.
1) After the civil war it took ibos 9 years before they could get any position close to the presidency. (FACT)
2) After that, in 1999 PDP came into power and for 16 years no infrastructural input in iboland by the PDP and no IBO presence anywhere near the presidency or vice presidency (FACT)
3) Buharis first attempt at President, he chose an IBO man for his vice who was Chuba okadigbo (FACT)
4) Buharis second attempt he also chose an IBO man for his vice who was Umezuike (FACT)
5) If the ibos do not vote for Buhari then it would be another 8 years of denials for the ibos. ( FACT)
Thot Kenneth Okonkwo should concern himself about how he would be a better governor of Enugu State, what he will do differently, how to solve devt challenges of ndi Enugu rather than being the campaign mouthpiece of Buhari.
proffemi: Finally, someone capable of articulating a position.
First, let me disabuse your mind of the notion that I am biased. I am a researcher, and arrive at no conclusion unless I have data to back it up. My conclusion is that notwithstanding the fact that tribalism is rife on Nairaland, more ndi'gbo resort to it unprovoked. It is based on months of (subjective!) observation. I hope you agree that if my observations are correct, then my argument is not one-sided? In which case, my question to you is: have you tried to actually collect data on this problem? If you have data to the contrary, I will most certainly eat crow. And gladly too.
Secondly, I agree with you that there is competition between the tribes. Unfortunately, this competition is rapidly becoming very unhealthy. I cannot see how you can find anything funny about that.
In creating this thread, I was not unmindful of the fact that the usual dregs would flood here with all manners of vituperation. I consider my decision to still go ahead with it on a Monday morning a debt paid to posterity, which will ultimately judge us all. The guilty, the innocent, and the insouciant.
Cheers.
The only thing that comes to my mind is to thank and praise you for your aim at being objective. Good, really.
I have done no research myself. No data to back my position on which side is doing it more or has more people doing it. That's the fact.
All I'd like to say is that both sides do it. Lets say i co cede to you that the Igbos do it morw, even if there are fewer Yorubas, those should be reined in too. Unless you can say that you have already done that.
So, Your interjection will become objective whence you advocate that the two sides be cautioned or reined in.
The rivalry between Yoruba and Igbo is not a today's thing. It is now generational -passed from older generation to the newer ones.
Now, the question is - is it healthy?
Some will say it is not while some will say it is. At best, the answer to that is debatable.
Now know there's nothing so bad that there's nothing good in it and conversely (e.g. snake venom kills but it can also heal; sugar is sweet. Very sweet. But it's also harmful to the teeth and general health).
That's where I perch.
What's between Yoruba and Igbo is competition. Both are very competitive nations and both strive for excellence in what they do. So, the rivalry or competition in this light will make each nation to strive to better themselves even if it's just for 'making mouth' to the other rival. This is positive.
The negative: either tribe will undermine each other at any slightest opportunity. This happens in politics, in work places, even professional associations. This is very negative. This is also what the more backward Fulabi/Hausa feast on.
I will advocate for the Yoruba and Igbo to begin to come closer and forge a more formidable front. For instance, what the Yorubas want of the nation's polity is much closer to what the Igbos want -merit-based system, peace, security and stability; thriving economy; modernity (Both tribes are progressive in ideology, actions and expectations). Also, Igbos adapt easily to Yoruba culture and environment, and view versa. For I stance, many Igbos love amala and ewedu while many Yorubas love eba-ibo and vegetable or ogbono (ogbolo) soup. Igbos have also learnt to party to finish as the Yorubas while Yorubas are liking building and owning homes and landed property which the Igbo man like die. The younger Yorubas have also apparwntly adopted marrying and properly caring for one wife which is the main clincher for an Igbo man. Etc. Etc.
The op is clearly one-sided. His comment is typical of a side that feels the heat of the bashing. Its just bashing, e-bashing, thats all.
I find it all funny and entertaining. And Seun and Nairaland make tonnes of money from the trades. So don't expect them to promote that the bashing be stopped. All you read in Nairaland rules are just for saying sake.
With above I say, let the tribal bashing continue please. But the Yoruba and Igbo nations need to wake up. They hold the key to the progress of this nation. They should unite and fashion a common political agenda. The middlebelt is ready to come and join but not in the current acidic atmosphere that symbolises the history of Yoruba-Igbo relationship.
7lives: I already have 10,000 reasons why I can't risk voting for anyone aside Buhari, so shove your 2000 reasons down your anus.
Bros, pls cool down. I've seen a fellow making a compilation of all reasons for not voting Buhari and APC, ever again. It has hit 19,607 by the time I gave up following.
• Shehu Sani's activist credentials failed on the alter of little tempest. He failed to prove his mettle when it mattered most
• All his vocal self as seen on the floor of the Senate was all self-serving
• Verdict - Shehu Sani demystified. He cares not about you and I but his personal survival and benefits -period!
"So Shehu Sani was fighting only for his own interest, for the injustice done to him, and once this was addressed he would be okay. He would not bother about the fate of the many others who had followed him in the struggle, and who also had suffered the same injustice, in particular, Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi, whose house was even demolished by el Rufai."
Shehu Sani is the Senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the Senate. He came to the Senate on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Shehu Sani is also a political activist. He was among those jailed by General Sani Abacha following his role for the actualization of June 12, 1993 mandate allegedly given to Moshod Abiola.
During the horse trading in the Senate for the enthronement of a new leadership of the Upper Legislative Chamber after 2015 elections, Shehu Sani belonged to a group known as the “Like Minds“, a rebel faction of APC members in the National Assembly who were opposed to the list of candidates penciled down by the APC leadership to lead the Senate. In the end, the “Like Minds” prevailed, which led to the election of Bukola Saraki and Ike Ekweremadu as Senate President and Deputy Senate President respectively.
On the floor of the Senate, Shehu Sani was very vocal. He never failed to comment on any issue slated for discussion. It was from Shehu Sani that we know that each of the Nigerian Senator goes home every month with about N12 million. As a matter of fact, if there is any prize to be given to most vocal senators, it would be shared between Senator Shehu Sani and Senator Dino Malaye. They are the people who make the Eight Senate tick and lively due to their quality contributions. They are the gadflies of the Senate.
Not minding that he is an APC member, Shehu Sani was always very critical of the activities of the APC led federal government and also of his home state, Kaduna. Indeed, he and his other colleague, Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi, who led the factional Akida group of APC, never spare Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State. They were responsible for the refusal by Senate to approve a World Bank loan for Kaduna State. In fact, they were vehemently opposed to el Rufai’s administration. This led to the two Senators being suspended by the mainstream APC in the state. They equally lost out at the just concluded APC congresses.
With the formation of the breakaway Reformed All Progressives Congress (R-APC), Shehu Sani threw his weight behind the group. In a television interview, Shehu Sani bemoaned the injustices allegedly metted on these aggrieved APC members, and said that the group had reached a point of no return. He stated that even if the new APC chairman, Adams Oshiomole, were to be a good surgeon, he had come too late, and that he, Shehu Sani, had already “left Egypt and was crossing the Red Sea”. With that statement everybody believed that Shehu Sani was already out of the APC.
When however the list of Senators that had defected from the APC last Tuesday was made public, Shehu Sani’s name was conspicuously missing. Many people started to ask why, whether it was a mistake, or a deliberate omission. Some of them reasoned that it was for strategic reasons, after all the name of the Senate President was equally not on the list.
Not long after, different stories began to emerge. One account from an online media had it that Shehu Sani was bought over by the the Presidency and that why he did not defect. That indeed Shehu Sani was the arrowhead of the coup that was to topple the Senate leadership. According to the story, while each of the other Senators loyal to the President was given N50 million, Shehu Sani was given N100 million and assured of a return ticket to the Senate, and that the Senator from Kaduna Central was to be made the Senate President. But the coup did not succeed.
Another online report however said that Shehu Sani had approached the PDP leadership, requesting to be paid N100 million for him to join the defecting Senators, but that the PDP brushed it aside, and insisted that it would not pay anybody any money to defect. Then he decided to go back to Egypt!
Shehu Sani himselg however came out with his own version. He did not comment on any of these alleged monetary inducements, which of course he must have read, but only said that his failure to defect was made possible by the intervention of Bola Tinibu, Adams Oshiomole and Balarabe Musa.
According to him, ” My defection was stopped by Asiwaju Tinibu, Oshiomole and Balarabe Musa. First of all they recognized and accepted the fact that an injustice has been done to me in Kaduna. Balarabe Musa invited me to his house, cautioned and counselled me against defection. Asiwaju did the same thing. Oshiomole reminded me of my activism and the struggles.
“They reminded me that all those who defected were former PDP members. I don’t have the pedigree of PDP. I am an activist. The assurance they gave me was that everything will be sorted out. They assured me that they will intervene on issues which I raised. Because of that I coud not defect”.
Well said. So Shehu Sani was fighting only for his own interest, for the injustice done to him, and once this was addressed he would be okay. He would not bother about the fate of the many others who had followed him in the struggle, and who also had suffered the same injustice, in particular, Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi, whose house was even demolished by el Rufai.
So it was only after Tinibu, Balarabe Musa and Oshiomole talked that Shahu Sani suddenly realized that he was an activist, and that he was not a member of PDP. Hope they only talked, and nothing exchanged hands. Interesting!
But why did Shehu Sani start advertising his intention to defect? Did those who left do the same?
Former military President, Ibrahim Babangida, himself a master strategist, once said that he had serious reservations about the so-called Nigerian socialists and activists, because as soon as a little offer is dangled before them, they will all fall for it. He only singled out Gani Fawehinmi who refused to compromise, and said he had great respect and admiration for him.
Think about Tai Solarin and his appointment as Chairman of Peoples Bank of Nigeria after his Ebony Magazine interview gafe that sparked off the May 1989 riots. Think about Woke Soyinka and his appointment as head of Federal Road Safety Corps commission, etc. They all compromised.
Lot13: One of the trademark of a good leader is respect for rule of law.
Well done sir.
Olodo! Your good leader, man of dignity and integrity is saying you should stop campaigning for him until the time is set by INEC. Ok.
Question: have you tried to ask why he appointed DG of his campaign almost five months ago in the person of Rotimi Amaechi? And followed it by appointing spokesperson of his campaign in the person of Festus Keyamu?
