That is the busiest highway in the southeast.
Now it is the worst road on the planet.
Yet the FG turns a blind eye. |

oluamid: It is only in Nigeria that one speech makes a Presidential candidate. Buhari did not give any and became president. Also you are absolutely WRONG. It IS speeches that make presidents all over the democratic world. Speeches have put people in power from the US to the UK to France. It offers a foresight of what is expected from the candidate. That is why elections are hinged on debates that involves speeches. |

SONofYORUBA: Being a government official, the man won't have up to 15k miles on that car. Is it his personal vehicle or was it acquired for official use? Most of the Innoson SUVs used by the presidential aides were acquired by the presidency for their senior staff and are for official use. He did not state the mileage so we cannot assume anything. Many companies auction off their vehicles after two years because the maintenance cost becomes overbearing. |

I read some funny comments in bewilderment only to realise the thread was in politics section and not car talk.
The age of the vehicle is only a part of the picture. The MILEAGE, maintenance and condition of use is another.
A two and half year old personal vehicle with 15,000 miles that is well maintained is totally different from a 2 and half year old government vehicle that has 200,000 miles on it. |

Abagworo: This one happened few days ago at Ebeano tunnel in Enugu which is the only other tunnel in the Southeast but it wasn't politicized but it was rather brought to Government's notice that erosion would cut the road which attracted use of lumps t o slow water current as a control measure till dry season when it will be repaired.
http://m.guardian.ng/news/enugus-ebeano-tunnel-crossing-threatened-by-flood/
Government Issues Alert The multimillion-naira Ebeano Tunnel crossing, built during the Chimaroke Nnamani administration may collapse due to threat by flood.
The state government, yesterday, also issued an alert that the tunnel crossing, built under rail tracks and linking the busy Ogui Road to Garden avenues and other parts of the Government Reserved areas (GRA) was no longer safe, as it may collapse, especially during heavy downpour.
Also threatened is the newly established branch of the Redeemed Christian Church located on the area. Meanwhile, the Ebeano Police Post, sitting at the foot of the tunnel and residents of Fidelity Estate, a new estate created under the immediate past administration of Sullivan Chime near the tunnel have been sacked, following the level of stagnation of water that has refused to recede in the last four days. The flooding that occurred into the the ebeano tunnel resulted from the blockage of the natural water way from the development of property at Fidelity estate adjacent to the tunnel. The tunnel has been there for years without much incidence till development in the estate peaked. This is unlike the gutter in Owerri that has a design flaw ab initio. With flooding occuring even before completion of the project. |
Politics › Re: Man's Car Stuck At Flooded Owerri Tunnel, Blames Rochas Okorocha. Photos by eaglechild: 3:11pm On Sep 12, 2016 |
Natotogokillme: Can't you guys argue without insulting your families? On the other note, the man blaming Rochas for the flood mishap needs to get his brain checked. Tunnels are built to reduce water flows on the main roads. And it should be avoided during rainy seasons because it's likely to be submerged after a heavy downpour. The only excuses one can give if there's an accident is if he was new in the area or there were no road signs. The point here is that he took a very key road that links two parts of the city and traverses a major federal highway and destroyed it in the guise of building a tunnel. The road was just fine, prior to the unplanned tunnel. It needed traffic control and nothing more. If anything at all a flyover would have been more appropriate. What did Rochas do? He closed a perfectly functional road in the PEAK OF RAINY SEASON and decided to dig a 40meter gutter/tunnel in a flat land city in the middle of the tropical rain forest that is prone to flooding. Even a goat will know that it is going to fail cause it is not feasible in that location. It is just a matter of time before the anthole collapses on itself. |

Amah70: Your impossible solution:
you suggest until the blackman changes cultural inclinations. .
So you want Blackman to Change our cultural inclinations and adopt the culture of which race? Do you suggest we incline to the Culture of Europe or Asian race before we see light?
Or are you suggesting that the Ijaw, for example, to incline to the Arabic culture of far northern Nigeria? Or the Yoruba to incline to Igbo culture, or vice versa? Or all blackmen in Nigeria to incline to whiteman culture, so as to preserve your one Nigeria?
And do you know that any race or ethnic group which abandons its culture is doomed? And you don't understand that the refusal of the major ethnic groups in Nigeria to abandone their respective cultures is why there is no synergy - no pursuit of common goal in Nigeria?
Well, this is NL, a land of all comers. You sing to people like you and they applaud. It is going to be very difficult to get people to understand your view point but I do. Virtually all first world countries are monolingual, with few exceptions that may be bi or trilingual and in which case those countries' citizens speak all the component languages. For countries to thrive and have a sense of patriotism they strive towards homogeneity as much as possible. That is how the developed first world evolved. With language and religion being the two strongest factors. It has nothing to do with hate it is just human nature. |

They don't have a city! I mean a city that can even come close to sokoto not to mention kaduna or kano.
Yauri, zuru, aleiru, argungu, birnin kebbi, jega all this place are sub-urban not yet urban.
What the state need is massive modernization of agriculture to reach it potential, so much land mass for nothing! Poor transportation system. I also believe that this is not a priority. Agriculture should be the focus of such a state and as you pointed out a cargo service will be better. I don't know if the state will generate enough passengers to keep the schedule running considering that Sokoto is not too far away. |
