brendan007: This is just about the same problem I have, the only difference begin that I didn't write the FSLC exams. This was because I sat for an entrance exams in the first term of primary 5 and secured admission to a secondary school. However, I returned to the school for my testimonial (they say it's equivalent to FSLC - someone should please confirm) so I could use it in place of the FSLC I was given something which contained information on when I started and when I left the primary school in question. I just hope it will be useful. If you do have a testimonial then it could be useful as well. Your Testimonial is just to show you finished from that school. it's not equivalent to your FSLC. It's better you go and sit for another exam. Unless you have no intention of ever applying or working for a government job. |

Benita27: First school leaving certificate is like Junior WAEC, both are useless. They give all the applicants same grade(C parallel). I think you would want to hold on to it if that was the highest level of education you attained. I'm not sure if it's needed when applying for a job 'cause most employers demands for WAEC and Bsc.
I lost mine too, but not bothered. Guess you have never applied for a government job before. @OP, go to the school where you sat for the exam and see the H/M, he or she can help you apply for another copy from the state ministry of education. Alternatively you can do it yourself by and apply directly to the ministry. But na enough stress and waka waka dey am. My advice, take the first option. |

Shey una dey see wetin Mbaise people wan bring inside church? I was here yesterday saying this very same thing. Accept Bishop Okpaleke first and then you can lay your complaints later. Since this crisis started, why haven't they ordained their young priests who were teary for ordination? Why haven't they confirmed their little boys and girls, ready for confirmation? And to think that it's the priests that are misleading the laity. Shameful. |

macjive01: Who is the church ?
who built the dioceses ?
The church is the people, if they people for whatever reason reject a priest then so be it ? the pope should respect the people, or they will leave the church for him and his pedophile cohorts .
the people built the church, did a penny of the pope and rome go into the building of the church?
If the pope doesnt carry the people along , then maybe he should go built his own church and appoint who so ever he wants as bishop in the church. There are certain points I don't argue. The People of Ahiara Mbaise and their priests can take whatever structure they have built and call it whatever name they like. But certainly it won't be a part of the Catholic Church. If they were bigger than the Papacy why haven't they Confirmed the young boys and girls, waiting for confirmation? Or you think this is a democracy where the Papacy will sit and be debating with you on what you like or not. |

tete7000: If you understand what the concept of church is, you will know it is not a political system where you talk of self determination. Infact in that article, a bishop rightly pointed out that the church has never pretended to be democratic. It is the truth, the church is a regimented system where simple obedience is what is required. Abeg help me tell them ohh. The Catholic Church is not begging anyone to be a priest. There are so many priests who have fallen out of the Catholic Church and it wasn't even noticed by the Papacy. |

macjive01: Imo has many more priests than Anambra, almost double , yet Anambra has5/6 of the bishops position in the south east.
Firstly, its wrong to say its Anambra fault, majority of Anambras are Anglicans, the problem is the Devilish Cardinal Arinze, he is being nepotic , using his connect to push his brothers, not just brothers, but soley brother from SAME onitsha dioeses .
This is no Anambra vs Imo fight.
when ojukwu challenged why Gowon was made head of state, when he is not the most senoir, the most educated , the most in anything, simply becos someone favoured him.
Let the selection team give us the criteria for this selection.
The selected Bishop is a young man, there are other bishops who are far older, wiser, being in service longer etc criteria for selection.
He next bishop could be another Anambra but not from this same Onitsha Dioceses. let him come from Nnewi or wherever, most catholics now believe Cardinal Arinze is manipulating the selection process. That's my 2 bits I hope you read where it was said that THE CATHOLIC CHURCH HAS NEVER PRETENDED TO PRACTICE DEMOCRACY. The Priests of Ahiara agitating against this, should first of all OBEY before airing their complaints. Even if another Anambara Bishop is replaced after Okpalaeke. SO? They took a vow of Obedience to the Papal Authority and should either uphold their vow or fall out of the Church and Open their own. I can't remember the Catholic Church begging anyone to become a Priest. |

tete7000: Well, that's actually strange to me to be candid with you. It is never the concept of priesthood I am famiiar with. I have a religious in my immediate family and believe me since she became one the family exempt her from many family obligations. Maybe she took the vow of Poverty alongside others. There was a story told about late Bishop Anthony G. Nwedo-Nzeribe of not being able to even do anything for his family even if it's building a small house in his place when his mother died. It was said that his parishioners had to contribute money to build a house in his hometown during that period. Because the Bishop belonged to the order of the Holy Ghost priests and took the vow of poverty. Thereafter many, at least of the If Igbo, stopped taking the vow of poverty. Disclaimer: I don't know if the story above is true or not. |

tete7000: I hope you are aware that Edeh belongs to the C.S.Sp? The Holy Ghost Congregation, so he belongs to an order in essence. It is the abbreviation you see after his name. I think every religious is expected to take that vow of poverty, it is in the degree that it is exercised that varies from the diocesan to the religious order. In the diocesan priesthood, the intention is to guide against the inordinate and excessive accumulation of material wealth. The local ordinary, that is the bishop in exercising his authority (implicit in the vow of obedience) can actually step in and regulate a priest who seems to be stepping out of control in this regard. The fact that every indigenous priest live in a house built by his parish and invariably by his diocese and not a house built by himself is equally a pointer to this fact. If a priest used to live in a parish house (let's say in an urban area) well furnished and he is suddenly transferred to another in rural area where there is dearth of such furnishing in the parish house, even if he is the one under who the former parish house was furnished, he can't empty the former house and transfer its contents to his new house. He cannot claim the properties as his personal own, they belong to the church, his parish. He must make do with whatever is found in the new house. He can however if it is within his means choose to upgrade the new house again to his taste. Finally I don't think an indigenous priest can will his car for example to his siblings. If he dies while serving, whatever he owns automatically becomes the property of the church.
To be frank with you, I have often wonder how Fr. Edeh (C.S.Sp) is able to exercise the kind of affluence he does. The ownership structure of his university and other things he owns is one that I wish I can understand. The vow of poverty isn't compulsory for every Priest. I know of some priests who have earned, still earning and have built houses of their own in their father's compounds and some even has houses in towns. |

ettybaba: Anambra marginalising Imo. Gbagam. That is the mentality of an average Imo Man. And that is why I am almost certain that this election boycott of a thing by Nnamdi Kane won't work. Because Abia state is considered as a part and parcel of old Imo. And an average Anambara man will not want take orders from someone from Imo. |

tete7000: I grew up attending a parish with three irish priests in succession, Fr. Mcabe, Fr. Shian, both of blessed memory and Fr. Fintan Daly. These priests gave wonderful homilies in funny Yoruba but that was the fun of it. I grew up as a child having a feeling I was part of one big universal church. I felt highly exposed; shaking hands with white priests and other religious was the hallmark of my experience as a young catholic boy. I served as an alter boy under Fr. Shian. It was a wonderful experience. He was a strict displinarian whose ways later influenced my thinking and philosophy about life in later years. I grew up and left the parish but would return home regularly from time to time to find the parish run by indigenous diocesan (but ibo by birth priest) and this is in Ibadan but I never heard anyone grumble or complained about ibos taken over their church. Growing up a catholic gave me a sense of pride, I have plenty of friends from other tribes. I am a Yoruba boy but have more ibos as friends than I have Yorubas. How has the church in Ahiara become so tribalised that they won't accept a fellow ibos priest will never stop to bother me. What if they had someone outside their clan? How would they have reacted if a foreigner was appointed their bishop? Warri diocese once in recent time had Richard Bunke, I wonder how they would have taken it were they Warri diocese. Why are these selfish, parochial, wordly, ego-driven sets of priest with their laity collaborators seek to destroy the universal spirit of the church? Why, why and why? You will be surprised that this same priests will accept a priest from Yoruba, middle belt, Hausa origin than accept that Okpaleke or any other person from Anambara. The root of this problem is the unwritten power tussle between an average Imo man and someone from Anambara. |
