Thanks bro, I don't like hybrid inverters because of the dependence of both charge controller and inverter functionality in one unit. If one spoil, I either replace both or take both for repair. However with separate units, if the charge controller develop fault, for example, I can take just that for repair or easily change it.

Thats a bit outdated thinking, y not look at it this way----- you would always need a back up unit as well incase any of them goes bad.
For hybrid, u just need a backup hybrid. For standalones
..so u will also buy a backup Cc and a back up inverter again

anyway, stick to what makes you comfortable

Hello professors

My Thermocool Optima gen battery seems like its failed. It can't start with switch but starts with the pull cord. I don't know if the battery is dead or its not charging while running. If its the latter, how do I make sure its charging?

What can I do?

Gptech aieromon earthrealm nwaozzugwor RepairZone

Likely dead. Those batteries usually die within 1yr.
Buy a replacement battery of similar capacity and replace.

If you want to double check if your gen is outputting charging voltage. Use a voltmeter to measure the voltage at the terminals.

If you have some diy skills, you can attempt reviving the battery, by adding small distilled water and using a pulse repair battery charger.
Perhaps it may serve you another 3 to 9monthe b4 dying.

What kills the battery is not running the gen frequently, as lead acid battery like being charged full all the time

Shit happens, make sure the batteries you were charging don't have an internal short, high end chargers hv inbuilt fuse that will cut to prevent damage to the equipment in such a scenario

Also how's the shipping handled

YOU need a shipping agent to handle your cargo...alibaba people rarely ship out things, when they do...their cost is usually high. so you should have an agent in china, who the alibaba people will send your items to, the agent will now consolidate all your goods and ship them to nigeria. some agents charge 9usd per kg...etc... so go and search for a china-nigeria shipping agent. some advertise on this nairaland as well

However @ bolded, its standard practice for cell buyer to properly top balance their cells to 3.6volts or 3.65 volts when they arrive.

It should be doable, if you are ready to void the felicity waranty.
You just need a new bms, a new metal case..chikena.
The 2 felicity packs will be gutted/dismantled, cells top balanced and put in a new case, a suitably sized bms installed, and voila you have a 48v lithium pack

Well done boss so what size of sumo can someone used to run 700ft only in day time on Soler panel only and the draw current and the size of the pv?

Submersible/sumo pump installed 700ft down is likely going to be a monster, above 10hp.

Lemme assume 10hp which is about 8kw, you would need minimum 250% of this in panels to ensure the sumo works decently during the day.
Ie 20kw panels, say 35 pieces of 600w panels.

also some brands/models of sumo dont have startup surge, . Such models would be best for you in this scenario. I have a 250watts sumo/submersible pump like that, zero start up surge, infact you can pump water with i pass my nebo gen or 500w inverter.but its limited to 120ft water head/depth.
Am unsure if such design is available for higher wattage sumo

Its best you get the exact consumption or rating of the pump to guide in the calculations.
If funds are a constraint, you can consider powering such a pump in battery less mode, with just panels and inverter.

Till you confirm the rating of the pump, all this would be in realm of conjecture

NiyiOmoIyunade:
A 1.5hp water pump running at 2kw is either ancient, inefficient or falsely labelled. You should be able to call it what it is for your specific case and not generalise about how all pumps behave.

I have 2pcs of 0.5hp pumps for pressure boost, 1pc 1hp pump for lifting water to the roof and 1pc 2hp pump for running garden sprinklers and irrigation - all these pumps work very close to spec as per wattage.

Quoting verbatim, I said the below about voltage yet you have managed to make it seem like it was not a part of the text you quoted.

I wonder what is your objective in this our back and forth engagement?

Pressure pumps and sumo/submersible pumps dont usually have the same real life load draw.

Sumo pumps draw a lot more than the spec sheet, as i think the spec sheet wattage is based on surface installation. The deeper a sumo is installed, the more work it has to do to send water up, hence the more energy it will consume.
It appears you havent worked closely with sumo pumps before? grin

2 units 1.5hp sumo pumps one installed at 80ft and the other installed at 130ft, will not consume same energy, nor will the energy they consume be anywhere near what you quoted above for your surface pumps.

I have actual reallife experience of running sumo pumps on inverters.
1. 0.5hp. .....actual load on inverter 830watts
2. 1.5ph.........actual load on inverter 1820watts
3. 1.5hp.........actual load on inverter 1550 watts

The water depths of sumo 1 and 3 are below 100ft as they are in same neighbourhood with high water table.
Sumo 2 is in a different state with lower water table and sumo depth is about 130ft

My last advice for anyone running or intending to run 1.5hp and above sumo on inadequate qty of lead acid batteries is to assume your panels are not bringing in any juice or have a device that will cut off power supply to the sumo if the solar harvest drops below a preset threshold ,

Errrrm,
I think from some of the responses so far, we are missing the whole point of cedarfarms enquiry.

I wont be drawn into this useless shenanigans , lithium vs leadacid battery, cos whatever anyone is using/decides to use. Leadacid o, lithium o...e no dey put shiishi for my pocket grin grin grin grin grin, why should i cry more than the bereaved?

Its best you give your advice, focusing primarily on a design that will work for cedarfarms.and not focus more on attacking what someone else has said.

I gave my answer based on what i feel is best for him/what i would do if i were in his shoes.
From his questions/comments here...you can guage his knowledge/experience level----without any disrespect to him, he is a greenhorn in this whole solar-inverter biz, so i factored all those in, b4 giving my recommendation....and it would be nice others think along that line too. And dont come up with complex solutions that OP might not understand or be able to actualize.

Las las he will be alright at the end, grin grin

Good afternoon house, please I'd like to be guided rightly, I hv a 3.5kva 48v luminous inverter, would want to buy other support systems to power a household using 1.5hp pumping Machine which would be used mostly during the day.

Want to know like how many solar panels I can buy and ba3s needed to power it.

Please note, the pumping machine would only be used during the day if possible to maximize output and not stress ba3s.

Thanks

for battery, if solar is your primary charging source, you can consider getting a minimum a 7kwh to 10kwh lithium bank. trying it with 4 units flooded battery and an oversized solar panel array eg 8units x 300w is a bit risky, as the sun cud go down while your panels are carrying the load...and this will result in the load being transferred to the poor flooded battery, who are not designed to carry such load.

lithium is the best for loads like this, the only challenge is that the luminous inverter charging algorithm isnt suitable for lithium cells, so you need to dance tru hoops if grid is your primary charging source, but if its solar, you would be ok

lastly, its a 50/50 hit if the luminous would be able to power the sumo, check the surge rating of the inverter..if its upto 6000watts, then it should,

There are a couple of things
By way of preaching the gospel - a premium inverter like Victron can separate the AC input from the invert stage such that I can run 5,000w of loads on the inverter AC out but only draw 2,000w from the AC input supply (with this one can avoid overloading a Gen or other weak supply) - this and a host of value added features justify the price premium on these inverters.

From all the literature I have read about tubular and from over 5 years of personal experience with an average discharge of just 30%. TUBULAR (which are flooded acid batteries) does need constant top up at least once in 2 months. If yours hasn't been topped with water going into a year then something is wrong somehere and it is not good for the battery.

Not topping up your flooded acid battery like TUBULAR simply means you are charging it at a voltage that is lower than recommended for the battery chemistry. Tubular is designed to be charged at 14.4v per 12v battery or 28.8 for 24v etc (based on all the documentation I have read about them from Indian sources) 14.4 is the absorption voltage and it is best to maintain them at this voltage for at least an hour or 2 to ensure they are properly charged and reduce the risk of sulfation.

They are also expected to be "over charged" at least once a month in a process called equalization. This equalization charge helps to mix up the electrolytes to prevent concentration of acid at the buttom and it also helps to balance all the cells within a battery and bring them to parity. Ordinarily you want this equalization charge to happen at least once a month. Not all inverters support equalization though so you would need to ensure your inverter suports it.

Equalization voltage is about 15.5v per 12v cell or 31v for a 24v bank. Some chargers can do this for you automatically if you ordered program them. You might also want to get an hydrometer to check the gravity of each cell during equalization process.

I would suggest you review how your battery is being charged to ensure it lasts as long as you want it to.

Spot on, i was too lazy to type all this out.same comment came to my mind when i saw people only topping up 2x or 3x a year!!.
