Good question!
I would also like to know why I have one if the inverter comes with its own charge controller. I simply followed the installers recommendation and setup has been working flawlessly
after my initial worry thanks to a few pointers on this thread on maximising what I have.
Will follow up on this when I'm on ground.

As the other poster pointed out, your inverter has a pwm inbuilt cc, pwm cc has many limitations.most inbuilt ones max out at 50amps and 100v VOC.. PWM cc is best if your panel capacity is below 900watts.

So thats the likely reason ur installer got a separate cc, as u say u have 12 x 300 watts panels

The hybrid limit has been confirmed as stated in the previous page (120v to 500v). 7S2P x 450/48 is 131A which is greater than the Max Mppt charging current of 100A.
11S1P will give out 113A which is in considerable range as losses may step it down to about 95A.
Fortunately, I'm yet to buy the additional panels hence my reason for asking all these questions. I've bought the 5kw hybrid inverter already and I'm planning to buy additional 450w PVs to add to the existing 9 pcs of 450w before going into upgrading proer.

Ok, most smart hybrids will throttle the current if its beyond its max spec, its usually exceeding Voc that causes outright damage.

Dep3nding on your risk tolerance, you can try 7s2p and see what happens. The 134amps you calculated wud only occur at optimum inclination and sunlight...which in real life rarely happens for longer than 5mins bursts.

If you wanna play it safe, just do your 11s1p and call it a day, or alternatively if you want to maximize everything consider buying a cheap standalone cc like powmr and 2 more panels. So u run 3s1p on the cc and 11s1p on the hybrid

isangjohnson:

Vmp is 41.5v
Imp is 10.8A
Is 10S1P better than 6S2P interms of waking up the CC early and sleeping late?
Downside: With my existing 450w Pv, I may be finding it difficult to really get a perfect setpoint as I'm struggling to push my array close to 6kw limit just to accommodate day time loads and fill up my battery at the same time.

Guess you didnt plan it properly from the get go, i mean the voc issh vis a vis the hybrid panel layout. hybrids perform best if the incoming Voc are above 280v. in one of my installs, am running 7s2p 330w panels with Voc of 43v.

i think at this late hour, you have 2 options

1. reconfirm your hybrid limits, and consider buying 2 additional panels, so as to run 7s2p

2. sacrifice 1 panel - sell or keep it aside...and run 11s1p with the existing panels you have already

Your bank seems full already

Alienwarfare:
I have 8x300w panels on the roof but this is want it's reading when the sun is very bright

THE BANK CANT BE FULL AT 50.2VOLTS.
ALSO THE INCOMING VOLTAGE OF 52V appears very low, guess the installers used small guage cables/long cable run and did 2s6p panel config.

confirm your panel panel config and battery type. the incoming voltage is too low, your charge controller may not have been configured properly, plus incorrect panel config.

The seller is offering discount for the next order and claims it takes 60 days to return. Please how do I go about it? I want to return it and get a refund. The package was delivered through speed AF. Thank you.

RETURNS TO CHINA ARE VERY EXPENSIVE..FIRST FIND OUT THE COST OF RETURN FROM POST OFFICE OR WHO EVER YOU WANT to use and then that will guide your next decision.

from experience, best to negotiate with seller, and accept a discounted refund, without return.

They are actually 35mm x 2 on each pole. I used single 35mm initially but they were heating up while charging at 240A.
So instead of linking the 2 batteries, I let each battery travel to the inverter on its own. Now the heating is gone.

I have the breakers to worry about now. It's rated 125A and I'm pumping 240A through it. Instead of it to trip, it's just there heating up.

Yeah, there are 300amps, 400amps 48v automatic breakers with reset function.best bang for buck

The panels were made in Canada. Not those China ones.

I'm not selling. I want to buy.

Batteries are included; AGM batteries.

Ok CAD sef, not even usd @ 3500 if you are the one buying, its an ok deal ( any idea of the age of the panels?) it becomes a dilenma choosing btw say a 12 to 15yr old canadian panel vs brand new tier 1 or 2 made in china panel like yingli/trina.

2ndly you are buying AS IS, u wudnt be 100% sure the panels are working ok/will arrive undamaged .

u mention micro inverters for each panel and then mention another standalone 8.4kw inverter.....best you clarify this as well

4th, they are also coming with batteriues, thats extra jara...after testing you can still sell the bad batteries for some coins,.

Hello guys,

Please, advise on the reliability of the following. I'm thinking of getting the system and haul into a container to Nigeria.

Description
A complete 8.4kW grid-tie solar system. We just removed this from a rooftop in Milton. We originally installed this about 10 years ago. Everything works and is fully warrantied for the next 8 years!

The cost of this equipment new would be around $15,000.

It comes with everything you need including the following;

35 Sharp 240W NDL240Q2 solar panels
35 Enphase micro-inverters
Racking and flashed mounting components to install on a asphalt shingle roof.
Grounding components and wiring
Trunk cable and home run wiring.
Squirrel Guard

Install it yourself or we can quote installation also.

Complete 8.4kW Solar System - Panels, Inverter, Mounting
$5,500

Not to rain on your parade,
might be more cost effective for you to sell these items abroad and not bother shipping it down.
Used 250w panel should be about 40k to 50k in nigeria. New one say about 60k to 75k.

Microinverters are not commonly used in nigeria as well

Someone in another forum used fuse combiner box to turn off the PV DC before it enters the house. According to him, it's another line of defence in an attempts to keep lightning out of the expensive electronics.

Doing that without incorporating a suitably sized dc arrestor with the breaker....really would not achieve much, in terms of lightning protection

A church member reached out to me to come check out their solar-inverter installation. The wife said the batteries don't last anymore and that the inverter spoilt and the guy that installed it initially took it out for repairs.

My first thought was, well, let me recommebd a budget 24v inverter you could use then. It was a no-brainer. I reached out to Valto for current prices of his inverters and funds was about to be disbursed, but on a second thought, I decided to first work with the spare transformerless easun12v inverter I had. Besides, that should give me an idea on how weak the batteries actually were.

So I separated both batteries and hooked them up individually to the 12v inverter and they observed how long each of them lasted on a fixed load. Expectedly, one was failing faster than the other. After that, I decided to combine them in a parallel 12v to see how long they would last together.

Brethren, after the whole connection, inverter refused to come on. No sign of life at all in inverter. Confusion hold me...lol

When the husband saw my confused state, he began to open up. He said that is the 4th inverter that is spoiling on the set up. He began to blame his wife for not supervising how the set up is used at home. That they put on even pumping machine on it and all. That the one at their school hasn't spoiled, etc etc. I doubted that overload was the cause of the damage, coz the inverter has overload protection.

Then it occurred to me that someone here once had a similar issue and the possible identified culprit was the earthing connaction. So I asked the man if his earth connection was properly done, he then confessed that he doubted so. That there was a way the house was wired and all of that, and that he would call his electrician to inspect it.

My point is, people/clients can so withold relevant information eh! Imagine if i had gotten a new inverter, and this issue happened. Probably, I would be dragging the seller by now. Sad situation.

Please, how can this be resolved? Is earthing really the issue and what can we do? Also, what is likely to have spoilt in the inverter? I just weak...something wey I no even charge them, based on hobby and relationship waka, i now lost a precious inverter... embarassed

Also had tha t issue sometime ago, 2 inverters died within 6months, after the 2nd death i told owner to do a new earthing just for the inverter, as i suspected the shared earthing had voltage leakage....going to 6months now everything is working ok. consider doing this or dont hook up to earthing at all and observe

Hello house. So I got interested in getting a high wattage solar inverter due to my future needs/load - a 10kva 48V one. I don't want to buy anything less due to the natural tendency to keep upgrading. Current budget will be able to make that possible along with a maximum of 4 350W panels and 4 12V 250Ah deep cycle gel batteries (already got the panels, batteries and inverter) along with a 100A MPPT charge controller. Couldn't afford the lithium ones for now.

Problem is I don't know the voltage of the panels so I'm confused on what arrangement to go with for a start. Series or parallel? Especially knowing I'll be adding to those panels with time. From what I've read so far on the thread, I deduced the batteries should be connected in series to get that 48V.

PS: I'm not DIYing, but hiring some engineers who have just a little bit of experience in solar installations. Hence the questions.

your plan is seriousLY flawed, only 4 batteries on a 10kva non hybrid inverter?... the no load consumption of the inverter alone will run down 2 batteries in a day...so technically what you have is just 2 batts?....n this ur upgrade plane...being leadacid batt u went and bought...so u now intend to be adding batteries to the 4 batteries u have already-- another fatal flaw...

if you have big loads, you shud hv a corresponding deep budget to go with it, if not...it will end in disaster. 16 batteries is the minimum you shud have if you are going for 10kva inverter....if not just get a 2kva or 3kva 48v inverter simple. alternatively you shud hv bought a lithium pack, say 14 to 20kwh, then when funds come..you can add another.

lastly, how did u arrive at the conclusion that you need a 10kva inverter

I have an Axpert (Easun 3kv Hybrid inverter).

It normally goes off in the evening when the sun is out but till now today (almost 9pm) its still showing solar charging and the fan is on.

Has anyone experienced this?
Is there anyway to reset this type of inverter?
Would it be OK to turn off the battery breaker so it goes off and maybe starts normally in the morning (I know they usually say everything must be disconnected before battery)?

thats a fault situation.
disconnect it from battery either by turning of the battery supply breaker or manually disconnecting one of the battery terminals for about 30secs to 350secs and reconnect

Please house, can you review solar floodlights and streetlights? I have had and still having horrible experiences with them. I bought over 25 of keye streetlights and floodlights last year, they didn't survive 6months of good brightness before they all went bad, I returned just 3 to their office last week to rectify based on warranty, they replaced the battery in 2 of them, I charged for 48hours then use one night it worked fine, then next night 5w led bulb is brighter than it as I write, though I learnt my lessons late, it appears that nothing I ever bought from Keye ends up good. Also, this SMS Black 300w floodlight with 2 panels, when I check outside my house at 2am, they are all gone and they are barely one year as well. I'm about to give up and want to revert to conventional lighting from my house AC power but it would be wise to know of other people's experience here too. Thank you

Hope the panels on the street light are inclined horizontally, not vertically, or near vertically?..i see a lot of people ignorantly installing the panels vertically....thats wrong.

2ndly can you post the specs of the unit, say bulb wattage and battery capacity?..u may have to open it up to get battery capacity if it isnt written on the body

3rdly, hope you are running them in motion dectector setting?....ie they run dim till they sense movement..then they activate full brightness till the motion causing body has left the are

Good evening house. I plugged my 12V 1.5kva Yohako inverter that is not up to a month to charge via Nepa this evening and the fan has refused to come on. At a point the alarm starts, I believe it's because of high temperature. Pls what could be the problem and how do I fix it.

your cooling fan may have stopped working/become defective. ensure your grid/nepa is clean voltage and within the 190v to 240v range, or best get a 3kva and above stabilizer and connect your inverter.

consider changing the fan if your voltage is clean and the fan still doesn't kick in

Why is it cumbersome? It just involves shifting a knife switch up and down.

Coldcandy.

What he meant being cumbersome is the outdated design of having 2 inverters and or battery bank..for daytime and nighttime usage.
Its super cumbersome and makes no sense in the present day with low idle /self consumption hybrids.

A new model 8kw hybrid inverter has about 70watts to 100watts idle consumption, while the old traditional transformer based 8kw inverter will have idle consumption in excess of 250watts

Good evening house, I’m in a dilemma with having a inverter setup in my build. Please what type of inverter will work for a compact 4 bed duplex? I have a 2.5 kw gen that can be used to pump water/ microwave and the likes when there’s no light

I just need the inverter to power;

rechargeable fans ( 4 at most since not all rooms will be occupied 247)

65 inches Hisense tv

Cctv set up, (8 camera’s in total for interior and exterior)

Electric fence (size of fence is about 50 by 50 so nothing so big)

And charge phones.

What k.va will work and Can I kindly get a cost estimate or is there anyone that can be referred here that will give one a solid setup ?

Thank you

GET A 4KWH UPWARDS LITHIUM BATTERY PACK 6kwh and above best to cover for any future load.
1.5kva hybrid inverter is ok, though if ur sumo is 1hp and below..you can get a 3.5kw hybrid inverter and use it to pump water if you so wish. get 4 to 6 pieces of 300w to 400w solar panel. you should be fine. remember to get a low voltage hybrid inverter as ur panel combined series Voc is below the working threshhold of most high voltage hybrids.
