oloet: Its affordable if the person is reasonable with his loads. And understands that he will need about 2yrs to break even. The beauty of RE at some point goes beyond naira and kobo. Imagine phcn strikes by 1am, and weather is hot, you are sweating like a pig, but either scared to go and turn on the gen by that time due to robbers or estate rules. But someone with a good inverter wudnt even be aware that anything is wrong. What value in naira and kobo would you attach to such. Trekking to work is cheaper than riding bike or keke to work..and cheaper than taking bus and cheaper than taking bolt or uber...and cheaper than driving your own car. The real tragedy is if you can afford taxi, or use your own car, but u now choose to trek or take bus/keke so as to make some imaginary savings... That savings u will still pay for it one way or another, body pains, spoilt footwear, possibility of being attacked and robbed while trekking etc 5 Likes |

Drgreatone: wudnt change anything. only way, is if grid/gen is on for a few minutes so start the fridge and then you can turn off the gen. best you sell off the inverter and buy a slightly bigger inverter |
Satellite TV Technology / Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by earthrealm(m): 8:25pm On Aug 11, 2023 |
Drgreatone: it carries it when utility is on, cos inverters have a bypass ability when grid is available, they simply transfer the load to grid...wch includes the surge starting current of the freezer.....now that you are trying to turn on the fridge on battery alone, ..the start up surge is hitting the inverter and it cant carry it.... its not a battery issue 3 Likes |

dacool1: It depends on certain scenarios 1. Battery if your bank is lithium, as it doesnt mind not being charged fully daily. 2. Solar panel if your battery is leadacid, as it likes being fully charged daily and suffers irreversible damage if routinely left not fully charged for extended periods. 3. Solarpanel if you have oversized day time loads, this works best with lithium battery 5 Likes |

queenfav: the roof is steep, so the panels wouldnt be operating optimally, 2ndly the orientation of the panels isnt optimal as well. as 1 is facing north. the south facing panels would perform better. based on all these your 320w panels would be loosing upto 30% of its capacity from these afore mentioned issues, so i expect a max output of about 150w to 200w from the panels...assuming they are tier one panels like jink/canadian solar etc. but much lower if chinco panels. if the panels Voc is below 50v, which am certain they are..you can add 4 more panels making it 12, then do 6 panels per side, 3s2p. the avginstaller is very fond of 2s2p for 48v systems, this isnt so optimal depending on panel Voc, as the battery needs enough headroon/potential difference to charge well. with the mix of all these issues..i now understand why 5kwh is the max daily harvest you get on the average. note: you actually need 2 diff cc to optimally harness the energy from the panels since they are facing different directions, but you can still use 1 cc, though you would loose a fraction of your harvest from doing this combo. the battery specs didnt show the max amps your batttery can accept...it only showed the charge voltage. in this case...best to assume c/10 which is 20amps...though it can accept higher for short periods---so in a nut shell you shud be fine,,,since i doubt you can ever see 60amps from ur cc, based on the issues i highlighted earlier yes you can attach another 1 Like 1 Share |

chinnyonwu: yes, the average 24v1.7kva inverter would have 20amps charging current maximum...unless you have a hybrid wch have up to 80amps charging current. so the external 30amps charger wud surely speed up charging..... -- this is the simplest answer, I didn't wanna delve into complexities which may confuse you |
Satellite TV Technology / Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by earthrealm(m): 2:11pm On Jun 01, 2023 |
queenfav: @Bolded is still not possible...perhaps you don't understand how the connection was done. 5kwh per day is poor for 8 x 320w panels...you should be averaging above 8kwh daily. 2ndly what I asked was max average instantenous, its in kw, not kwh...................................... since you have 8 x 320watts = 2560w, if the panels are good and wiring&setup is good, and you have enough load or battery isn't full...you shud be seeing above 1700w on a bright sunny day 1 Like |
Satellite TV Technology / Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by earthrealm(m): 12:19pm On Jun 01, 2023 |
queenfav: there is no straight forward answer, it all boils down to if your panels are tier 1 or cheap clone panels. an original 320w panel can produce up to 300w at stc...while a cloned panel will struggle to produce 200w. then some charge controllers have energy capping, ie the current output of the charge controller is capped, so as not to exceed the max rating of the CC. other ccs also have a capping function inbuilt...it wont allow more than its maximum capacity to pass. what ccs hate most is exceeding the Voc, this readily damages the average cc. 12 x 320w panels seems much for just 4 batteries, or do you have plenty daytime loads..following the c/10 rule for sealed leadacid batteries, 20amps or worst case 30 amps is the max current you can send to the battery, without causing irreversible damage overtime. check the body of the battery and see the max current it can handle. 2ndly, whats the maximum average instantenous harvest you see on the cc in bright sunlight about midday?---ur answer will determine is your setup is connected optimally. you said your panels are connected in parallel....am assuming you are not sure of this....as only a deranged ignorant installer will hook up 8 x 320w panels in parallel for a 48v system, the installer likely did 2s4p --- i need u to confirm this. whats the voc of the panels and the voc of your cc? 2 Likes |

emmy9500: the installer is talking pure horseshit!..... 1. maybe your battery was full/you didnt have much load 2. wrong time of the day. to test the actual production - best on a sunny day btw 12 and 2pm....if your battery is full or near full...turn on your heavy loads at least upto 1.4kw....and observe again |

Hollawayn05: Read the manual that came with your CC and change the settings. 200w /13amps @ peak from 2 x 300watts panels is very poor. Something is wrong. Get a pro to look over your setup |
Satellite TV Technology / Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by earthrealm(m): 8:59pm On May 25, 2023 |
Hollawayn05: YOUR battery is weak, either the electrolyte sg is wrong, or you inverter and charge controller isnt giving the battery the correct charging voltage. check that ur charge controller is configured to send 14.7volts to the battery. your inverter is a dumb inverter..so you cant change the charge voltage---. how many amps or watts do you see on the charge controller at midday in bright sunlight?...or attach a picture of the charge controller screen if you dont know what am asking |

Loneley: the dropping to half, is it with load or no load? but first off, those battery level indicators can be error prone. best you use a digital meter to test the voltage at the 2 different times. is the battery flooded type? |

Satellite TV Technology / Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by earthrealm(m): 11:49pm On May 21, 2023 |
joseph4sales: the battery is likely damaged, or has wrong/low sg electrolyte. 2ndly the inverter you are using is not designed to charge flooded batteries optimally. its not beeping low battery...cos the load you have on it is very small. try adding a fridge/freezer on it and you will hear the low battery beeping within a short time. lastly most of these dumb/non smart inverters have low battery beeping preset to come on at 21v....and by then irreversible damage has already occured in the battery. if you want your batteries to last long. try not to let it go below 12v...or 24v for a 2 battery system 1 Like |

Milito: its ok, but doesn't make sense...its like using a bike to move from lagos to abuja, vs using car why do you think you need a 7.5kva inverter, the bigger the inverter the bigger its self consumption energy |

obitobe: the load is too much for the batteries. is this load on 247? what is your average daily harvest from the panels is it upto 7kwh? unless you reduce your load...changing to 48v setup will not do any magic.batteries will still run down |
Satellite TV Technology / Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by earthrealm(m): 4:02pm On May 03, 2023 |
vta2008: the c/10 is same where you apply it singly or cumulatively. c/10 of 440ah is 44amps, so you shud try to keep ur total running load below this at sundown/no sun periods...multiply this by the system voltage to get about 960watts. ie 24v x 44ah. the iron of 850watts wudnt damage your battery.....i even use a steam iron of 1200w on my 4 flooded batteries...no issues. this is because the thermostat of the iron regulates the load..heats for 60secs or so and turns off..n cycles again. am sure the battery might hv gotten damaged, if it was a constant 1200 watts draw..like sumo/ac etc. pls the quality of battery plays a big role as thicker plated batteries are more durable. 2ndly flooded batteries are tougher n recover from abuse better than the normal dry cells. find below my ranking of batteries lifepo4 >>> 2v 600ah and above cells >>>>>> flooded battery/AGM >>>>>>>>>Other sealed battery types 1 Like |
Satellite TV Technology / Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by earthrealm(m): 5:49pm On May 02, 2023 |
vta2008: They are playing safe, usually cos majority of owners arent so knowledgeable or the installer himself. The weakest link is usually the battery... A dry iron consumes btw 800watts to 1400w, whilea steam iron between 1600w and 2500watts. Now if you have 4 batteries, you may escape damage to the batteries if using dry iron. Of stated wattage range above., But steam iron will likely damage the battery. Always have the c/10 rule at the back of your mind when using leadacid batteries. Lithium batteries on the other hand has no issues with load and can do 1c, though 0.5C is the norm. C in this scenario is capacity of the battery in AH 3 Likes |
