Nigeria blocks Radio Biafra station dedicated to creating a breakaway state

LAGOS, Nigeria – Nigeria says it has banned Radio Biafra because it is unlicensed but the station dedicated to creating a breakaway state remains on the airwaves.

People in southeastern Nigeria confirmed Thursday that the station is broadcasting in the area that is home to the Igbo people. The Igbos fought a civil war to form an independent nation called Biafra in the 1960s that killed about 1 million people, mostly Igbos from conflict-induced famine.

Unresolved causes of the war and results including the appropriation of property that has not been returned remain a sore point and groups including Radio Biafra continue to agitate for independence. Many Igbos who fled into exile have not returned home.

The Ministry of Information announced Tuesday that the National Broadcasting Corp. had jammed Radio Biafra's signals.

PoliticsKwara Wants To Get Rid Of Saraki -belgore by Earthwide(op): 7:03pm On Jan 06, 2014
A one-time governorship candidate of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria in Kwara State, Mr. Dele Belgore (SAN), who is now a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, says in this interview with Success Nwogu, that the defection of Senator Bukola Saraki and Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed will frustrate the wish of the Kwara people to do away with the duo

€‚How would you react to the defection of Dr. Bukola Saraki, Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed and their loyalists from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress?

Let me say three things. First of all, I have full respect for the position of the national leadership of our party, APC, regarding the defection of the G-7 or G-5 Governors, including the personalities that you have mentioned. And I understand it from a point of view of national politics. Secondly, as a politician answerable to a local base, I am fully conscious and responsive to the yearnings of the local population. Thirdly, yes any move is always welcome, you will also know that it is not just about a movement, or entry, it should be about value added. So you have to look at the value added.

Do you think that these personalities by their entry to APC will add value to the party and to the Kwara residents?

I do not think they will add any value whatsoever to the interest and people of Kwarans.

Why do you say so?

They represent stigma that the Kwara State people are trying to get rid of. Kwara People want a change. They want to move away from impoverishment. They want to move away from leadership by selfish few that rob people of their commonwealth for their own selfish needs. Kwarans do not want leaders who say that nobody can get anything in Kwara State or attain any position in Kwara unless I say so. Kwara people do not want to be impoverished. They do not want leaders who rob them of their opportunities. So from that point of that view, I do not believe that Kwara people see that movement as an asset.

You are saying that Saraki's leadership and that of Ahmed have impoverished Kwarans but some believe they are transforming the state?

Where is the evidence of transformation? There isn't any. On the contrary, what you see is that the state has been driven to close to bankruptcy. As you could recall, some time ago, Assets Management Corporation of Nigeria, (AMCON) said that Kwara was unbankable. That cannot surely be evidence of transformation or development. Kwara is a first generation state that was created in 1967. Today, it is economically backward and does not rank among any of the first generation states. It, indeed, ranks with some third generation states. That cannot be favourably an evidence of good leadership. Kwara State people deserve better.

With the defection of these personalities, some people believe that PDP is finished in the state. Do you share their views?

I can not speak for the PDP. I think you need to ask somebody in the PDP to talk about that.

The tempo of the Kwara politics, is believed, to depend on the Sarakis. Are you not taking risk by not being in their camp?

I have never been in their camp. It is that very notion that the people of Kwara reject. Besides, none of these is about Dele Belgore and what his interests are? It is a paramount community interest which overrides the interest of any individual or collection of interests. I generally do not like to mention names. Kwara is bigger than any individual or any one group of individuals. The time has come and the Kwara people have braced themselves, they are ready to demonstrate that the whole world.

There is a belief in some quarters that Sarakis have great leadership because of their people-oriented and charity activities. Do you acknowledge this?

I am yet to see those people-oriented charities and perhaps you should ask some ordinary Kwarans what these people-oriented charities are. Of course, they are never short of praise singers and hand-picked cronies who will banter all these things around but if the truth must be told, you need to look at the ordinary people. Besides, where is the face for charity when there is opportunities for leadership and the resources of the state are available to lift the welfare of the people of the state. People do not want charity. People want to be given opportunities. People want their commonwealth to be used meaningfully to empower them. There is no evidence of this on the ground.

So how would you describe Kwara State under Bukola Saraki political leadership?

I will rather not talk about that. He ceased to be governor almost three years ago so I would rather not talk about that. I would wish we move forward and see what the feature have for Kwarans.

But some people believe Saraki is still in control of the political leadership even under Ahmed's administration?

He is not the subject I care to talk about.

Why in your opinion did Ahmed abandon PDP for APC?

I have no idea. I think you have to ask him that. But he has shown that someone else is pulling his string. I would not want to say more than that about him. Some believed that since his political godfather, Bukola Saraki, defected to APC, he had no option but to follow. That will be consistent with everything else he had done and he is the same person who said that 'if you want to know where our political fortunes lie, do not ask me but ask my master somewhere.' So it will certainly be consistent with that.

Some hold the view that Saraki defected to APC not for the genuine interest to serve Kwarans but possibly because he is out of favour with the federal political authorities and because he is having problems with anti-corruption institutions and the presidency?

You will have to ask him for his real intentions why he made the move that he made. But what I do know is that the interest of Kwara State people today is to have a change from selfish rule, from the rule based on the patronage for a few, where their commonwealth had been denied of them, where they had been robbed of a lot of opportunities. That is the need of the Kwara State people and it is that need or yearning that I will rather concern myself with.

Ahmed is in the third year of his administration now, how would you assess his administration, has he transformed the state?

I think it is a monumental failure. There is absolutely nothing on the ground but you see, every day, some unknown bodies awarding him, 'Best Governor on that and that.' When ever you see that, you know that it is a sign of failure at home. If you are a good governor, it is your people that will be championing you. You never see Governor Babatunde Fashola and some other performing governors going about winning awards. The only award that matters to them is what their people say.

How do you react to the handing over of the APC state structure to the defected governors, including handing it over to Saraki and Ahmed in Kwara?

If that is the decision of the national leadership of APC, one has to respect it and I can understand it from the point of view of national politics. But from the point of view of the local needs of the people of Kwara, which is that they want change, such a move does not serve their cause at all.

With Saraki and Ahmed in charge, what future awaits Kwarans if APC wins in 2015?

The future that awaits Kwarans sadly will be the same of the whole years that the kwara people have been struggling to get away from. Kwara people want change and should APC in Kwara be under the leadership of these personalities, that means that the years of struggle for kwara people for equal opportunities, emancipation and empowerment still remains a mirage.

There is the speculation that you will very soon dump APC for PDP. What is the situation?

I have heard that speculation too. It is still speculation. I am still in APC so it is still a speculation.

But if the party structure is given to Saraki and Ahmed what will be the next line of action?

We wait and see.

What is your word to Kwarans?

My word to them is that the cause for economic emancipation and empowerment, for opportunities, justice and equity are causes that are worthy causes that we should all support and fight for and that we should continue to fight for those causes and never waiver.

Politics2015: Cracks In Northern Solidarity Against Jonathan by Earthwide(op): 4:43pm On Jan 06, 2014
By Emeka Mamah and AbdulSalam Muhammad

There appears to be a major crack in northern solidarity against President Goodluck Jonathan's supposed ambition to contest the 2015 elections as over 50 top politicians including former governors, ministers and senators from seven northern states met in Kaduna State weekend to strategise on how to neutralise the opposition All Progressive Congress, APC, in the area.

Those who attended the meeting said that they in full support of Jonathan and his Vice, Mohammed Namadi Sambo, and distanced themselves from the position of both the Northern Elders Forum, NEF, and the Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, that the presidency must return to the North in 2015.

This was even as Kano State was almost thrown into crises yesterday afternoon following an attack on one of the supporters of the former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari, Abdul Majid Danbiliki Commanda at the popular Al Furqan Mosque shortly after the Juma'at prayers by unidentified persons.

The hoodlums invaded the Mosque and attacked Commanda was bloodied in the presence of the officiating Imam, Dr Bashir Umar Aliyu, former Governor Kano state, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, Dr Ibrahim Khalil, Malam Ibrahim Kankarofi, Abdullahi Sani Rogo among other top APC stalwarts.

However, among those who attended the meeting included Senator Saidu Kumo (Gombe), Abdullahi Gumel (Jigawa), Alhaji Rabiu Bako, Senator Zeego Azeez, Bawa Magaji Kufana, and Saleh Annur- all from Kaduna State.

Others included Senators Jubrin Donguwa and Hamisu Musa (both from Kano), while Alhajis Aminu Jambo and Abdullahi Garus came from Katsina State.

From Kebbi State were Bala Gwandu, Bala Kaoje, Samaila Sambawa, just as Ambassador Ladan Shuni, Yusuf Suleiman and Ahmed Mohammed Gusau came from Sokoto State.

However, Sherrif Abdullahi Gashua from Yobe also attended the gathering for Jonathan and Sambo even as those who attended from Zamfara State included Faruk Ahmed Gusau, Col Bala Mande, rtd; Lawani Zurmi and Hon. Matawallen Maradun.

Alhaji Ahmed Gusau, who spoke in an interview shortly after the meeting said that the North had benefited a lot from Jonathan's presidency, pointing out that the ruling People's Democratic Party, PDP, would showcase such benefits when it was time for campaign.

He further said that the North did not belong to ACF or NEF alone as there other stakeholders, wondering where the north as a whole met and decided to vote against Jonathan as claimed by NEF leaders.

Hoodlums attack Buhari loyalist

Meanwhile, eye witnesses told Saturday Vanguard that "we are witnessing a wedding holding inside the mosque when all of sudden, thugs invaded the peaceful gathering and bloodied Commanda in the presence of distinguished guests."

It was gathered that, "it took the combined efforts of the officiating Imam, and Hisbah Guards to rescue the APC chieftain into the private residence of the chief Imam inside the Mosque before the arrival of anti riot policemen."

According to the sources, the ensuing mêlée caused pandemonium as the worshippers ran helter skelter for safety of their lives even as ''political temper rose to a boiling point in the ancient city.''

In an interview later, the victim of the attack, Danbiliki Commanda said that former Governor Ibrahim Shekarau of Kano State was the mastermind, alleging that "those who attacked me are Malam Shekarau's boys and I know them too well.''

He further said, "I was in the front row where only one person separated Shekarau and I during the Juma'at prayers. I was attending to a wedding fatiha when some persons I knew to be close to Shekarau pounced on me.

"It took the combined efforts of the officiating Imam and Hisbah Guards to rescue me from the rampaging thugs. I lost my handset, personal diary and N100,000.''

But, in a swift reaction to the accusation, Shekarau's Spokesman, Sule Yau Sule distanced his boss from the violent encounter, stressing that "Malam Shekarau is a man of peace. Certainly Malam Shekarau has nothing to do with this because when we had the instrument of power to curb the excesses of Commanda, we ignored him, how much more now that we are out power.

''You know who Dan'Bilki is and his excesses when Malam was in power, but we chose to ignore him because we were conscious that he had the right to his freedom of speech," Sule stated

Sule then advised Commanda to look elsewhere and desist from dragging the name of his boss into the mud to curry cheap political favour.

Efforts to speak with the Police Public Relation Officer for Kano State, ASP Magaji Majia proved abortive as calls put to his telephone line could not go through.

Politics2015 Elections: Al-qaeda Doles Out $500 Million To Boko Haram by Earthwide(op): 7:45pm On Dec 26, 2013
Al-Qaeda, the dreaded International Islamist terrorist group, recently doled out a whooping $500 Million, an equivalent of N80 Billion to Boko Haram for the purchase of arms and high caliber weapons to begin an orchestrated attack ahead of the 2015 general elections, pointblanknews.com has been reliably informed.

The $500 Million (N80 Billion), is specifically meant to remove “infidels” in Government and ensure that Muslim candidates from the North emerge in 2015 as part of the Sect’s plan to Islamize Nigeria.

Boko Haram had said part of its demands is for Nigeria to be ruled under the Sharia Law and for President Goodluck Jonathan, a Christian from the Minority south to convert to Islam.

The National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki, (retd.) recently confirmed that the international terror organization, Al Qaeda, has made inroads into Nigeria’s security system.

Although Dasuki did not give details of the inroads made by Al-Qaeda but sources said the NSA was merely confirming security reports that Boko Haram has been bolstered by financial supports it received from the international terrorist organization.

“What the NSA said was just a tip into the current situation. Boko Haram is now very rich. They just received about $500 Million from Al-Qaeda and that has greatly energized them,” the source told pointblanknews.com.

Fighters from Boko Haram had marched into Maiduguri city recently in pick-up trucks and on motorcycles, before opening fire with rockets and small arms on a military base, signaling the launch of its new tactics and weaponry.

Security sources told pointblanknews.com that Boko Haram had told Al-Qaeda that it needed $1 Billion to remove “infidels” ruling Nigeria and install Muslims who will help to Islamize Nigeria.

The Security sources said Boko Haram leaders told the leadership of Al-Qaeda that the Islamization of Nigeria, the most populous black nation is key in the quest to Islamize West Africa.

After considering the request, sources said Al-Qaeda released an initial $500 Million calculated to be N80 Billion at the exchange rate of N160 per dollar.

The International terror group plans to release additional funds upon review of Boko Haram success

Pointblanknews.com gathered that some politicians from the Northern extractions who are bent on having political power returned to the North aided the receipt of the funds to Boko Haram.

A source confirmed that some top Northern leaders are currently under scrutiny for helping Boko Haram receive the cash donation from Al-Qaeda. The Northern leaders under investigation are also accused of giving cover to members of the Sect.

“Al-Qaeda did not send the funds through Banks or any conventional method, they used some people and we are currently investigating and as soon as we are through, those found guilty will be prosecuted according to the law,” a source hinted.

A security source knowledgeable with the current trend of Boko Haram who preferred to be anonymous confirmed that the sect has only recently received the sums and has started purchase of weapons.

“They have the money now and they are getting weapons as we speak.”

According to the source, “we are also tracking down the source of the weapons they are buying and we are almost done with that.”

Pointblanknews.com gathered that the current weapons being purchased by Boko Haram are of more sophistication than those used by the Soldiers stationed in the North East region.

A source who want to remain anonymous said Boko Haram currently outnumbers the current Military strength on ground in the North East region of Nigeria.

“We have it on good authority that from the funding they recently
received, they have recruited more people and paying them well too.”

According to him, “they have a new plan now to destabilize the country ahead of the 2015 general elections because they had told Al-Qaeda that the country is currently being ruled by infidels and that they have what it takes to Islamize Nigeria.”

FLASHBACK:
“Many Hausa-Fulani told me that the North’s escalating poverty has resulted from its declining access to oil because of its loss of the presidency to Olusegun Obasanjo, a Southern Christian Yoruba, following the death of the Northern Muslim Kanuri, Sani Abacha. Their solution to Northern poverty was to recapture the federal government. This they did in the rigged elections of 2007 and the presidency of Umaru Yar’Adua. But, they lost it again when Yar’Adua died in May 2010 and the vice president, Goodluck Jonathan, a Christian Ijaw from Southern Nigeria, became president.” – John Campbell, Former US Ambassador to Nigeria.
