Christianity Etc'they Asked Me To Renounce My Faith' by Earthwide(op): 9:26pm On May 23, 2013
ONE of the victims of the insurgents in the north, 37-year-old Adamu Habila from Yobe State mysteriously lived to tell the story of how he had a close shave with death when his assailants took him for dead after shooting him.

Habila, fatigued after a busy day, retired to bed with his wife and their son, only for their sleep to be interrupted at about 11.00 p.m. with a bang on their front door and a voice asking them to grant the uninvited visitors easy entrance or risk damage of the door.

He narrated that the intruders, who were in a hurry to execute their mission, did not even wait for them to take decision, before forcing themselves in asking members of his family to come out of the bedroom with immediate effect.

As they hurriedly matched out, they discovered one of their two unwanted visitors was armed with a sophisticated rifle, who asked Adamu to kneel down. It was then it dawned on Adamu, a Youth Leader of the District Council (DCC) of ECWA Church in Yobe that the intruders were Boko Haram members on jihad mission.

Habila continued: "They told me they were giving me an opportunity to live and to lead a better life if only I could become a Muslim and state the famous Kamatul Shahadar, a confession of faith in Islam. I replied that I am a Christian and would remain a Christian even in death and turned to my wife not to worry because the death of a Christian is a great gain and not a loss."

"The armed one ordered my wife to go inside with a gun to dispossess us of our money and mobile phones while the other man kept on interrogating me."

" When they returned, the man outside told his partner that I did not co-operate. He then placed his gun on my face, by my mouth and said: 'since you refused to become a Muslim, here is your reward.' He then pulled the trigger and the bullet passed through one side of my cheek to the other. I slumped."

"After my assailants left, I managed to tell my wife to call our Christian Elder, Bab Jibir, the former treasurer of the DCC ECWA, Yobe State. Report came that he and his son had been killed. Police were called but they didn't come and every effort to get assistance from other neighbours, most of whom were Muslims, proved abortive until around 6.00 am when I was rushed to the General Hospital in Potiskum and later transferred to JUTH in Jos and later referred to Kano where the Voice of the Christian Martyrs Nigeria took over my case and provided for the entire family," he concluded.

Commenting on Habila's case, the National Director, Voice of the Christian Martyrs, Isaac Oluwole Newton-Wusu lamented the plight of people in Yobe State and said the case of Habila was just one of many in Yobe where over 120 churches have been destroyed.

"There had been massive destruction of lives and properties where about 180 villages in different parts of the North were raided by fundamentalists who have rendered about 5,000 Christians homeless.

"Religious fundamentalists have been on the prowl for long in the North, maiming and killing innocent souls including children and babies with dangerous weapons. Emergence of Boko Haram had worsened the situation, which had turned many villages to ghost villages where those who have no place to go only wait like those that have been condemned to death.

"Voice of Christian Martyrs operates The Stephen Children Home in Abeokuta, Ogun State where over 325 children whose parents have been killed in various religious crises in the Northern parts of Nigeria are receiving free education, free accommodation and free sustenance. Some are in various Universities under the sponsorship of VCM," he explained.

CrimeI-n-c-e-s-t: Daughter Bears Baby For Own Father by Earthwide(op): 8:37am On Feb 20, 2012
Father and daughter agree to committing incest that produced a baby boy. But while father says act was consensual, daughter claims she was hypnotised.

For 24 years, Zina didn't know her biological father. As a growing child, she had repeatedly been told by her mother that her father was in Jos, Plateau State, then in Lagos. Unable to withstand the resultant mockery from friends and classmates, Zina demanded to be taken to her father, sometimes refusing to eat for days.

At last, her demand of several years was granted two years ago, when she was taken to her father in Amuwo Odofin area of Lagos.

Today, Zina is 26 year-old. But, unfortunately, she is enmeshed in an abominable act which stigma is likely to remain with her for the rest of her life. Reason? She claims to have a ten-month old son whose father is no other person than her father (names withheld).

Zina alleged that her father was the first man to have carnal knowledge of her. Asked how that was possible, she claimed her father usually hypnotized her anytime he wanted to sleep with her.

The suspected victim of incest narrated: " I demanded to know my father and also to stay with him so that I could do something better with my life. I thought, when I got to his place, he would fix me into a skilled job.

"But when I got there, it was another ball game altogether. It all started with his over-monitoring nature. Anytime I went to my place of work, my father would come and check if I was there or if any man came to visit me. I thought it was just this fatherly protective measure for their daughters.

Then one day, he gave me some concoction at night, saying it was for malaria . But after I took it, I did not know where I was and, before I knew it, I slept off and, when I woke up , I discovered I was naked and was bleeding. This continued several times."

Asked if she told anybody, Zina replied, " I did not tell anybody that first time because he threatened to send me back to my mother if I did. He continued that way until I became pregnant. Even when I was pregnant, I never knew.

It started from being dizzy and when I complained, he gave me some drugs to take, which made my stomach rumble for days. When I could not bear the pain any longer, I had to contact someone who in turn contacted my mother".

On arrival, her mother was said to have taken her to hospital where tests were carried out on her and results showed she was six months pregnant. The 39-year-old mother of the girl, Rose Nwogugu, was devastated.

Zina remained with her father in that state until she gave birth to a male child who has striking resemblance with his grandfather. Lack of care for both the nursing mother and her child reportedly prompted Nwogugu, mother of the incest victim, to alert the police who arrested the father.

"What have I done to deserve all these?", Zina's mother asked Sunday Vanguard. rhetorically. Information showed that the single mother had suffered several misfortunes in life. First was the pregnancy that produced Zina, twenty -six years ago, when she was barely 13 years.

She was reportedly impregnated while in form two. Then, the man responsible (Zina's father) was a trader in Jos. The pregnancy distorted her education, as her furious parents refused giving her out in marriage, on the grounds that she must finish her secondary education first.

Looking back with regret, Nwogugu said" "Tthis man (pointing to the father of her child) has put me into so much trouble. Part of it is that I have not been able to marry since then. He got me impregnated when I knew nothing about life.

Even at that , he never bothered to check on his daughter. I reluctantly took my daughter to him so that he could at least play his fatherly role on her. I never knew it would turn out this way. I came to check on her when I heard he was not taking care of her only for me to discover that my daughter had been impregnated by her own father".

On why he decided to sleep with his daughter in the first place, the suspect blamed it on spiritual forces beyond his control.

"If I tell you it has got more to do with spiritual forces, you may not believe me . But it is true. This spiritual thing is true. I was cursed by one of my uncles without any fault of mine. He placed a curse on me that I will never do well in life.

Since then, anytime I have money at hand, it will just disappear. I have been going from pillar to post all these years, struggling to make ends meet but no way. Look at me, is it proper for a man my age to be unmarried? Eh- hen, that is what I am saying. This thing happening to me is not ordinary."

On why he chose his daughter instead of a female friend, he said, "I do not have a girl friend. It all started when she started telling people that I am not her father. When her mother brought her to me in 2009, I could not take care of her because I was poor. I could not feed myself, let alone another person. It is not that I never had plans for her but things were tight for me, that I had to take her to my elder sister's place. But she later brought her back saying my daughter had some problem.

I then got a place at Mile Two park where she could be managing in a restaurant. While there, she kept telling people that I was not her father. Out of annoyance, I took her away from there and got her another place, yet the case was the same.

At a point I begged her to stop denying me before the world but she would not stop. Then I removed her from there and made her to stay at home with me for four months before I took her to learn fashion designing where she repeated same thing"

Asked how he got his daughter's consent in the atrocious act, he said, "It happened one night. I did not tell her anything. I only crept to her and started handling her. She did not put up any resistance; so I had carnal knowledge of her. This continued until her mother came to inform me she was pregnant. She never told me she was pregnant. I could not also deny it because when the baby was born he looked very much like me.

"I did not hypnotize her as she claimed. The only concoction I gave to her was for malaria because there are lots of mosquitoes where we lived and I did not want her to suffer from malaria. Her claim that I am the first man in his life is also a big lie. This is because she was not a virgin when I slept with her. I am an adult and I know how it feels like with a virgin."

Asked whether he felt any remorse the first time he slept with his daughter, he shook his head and said, " remorse? no. There was nothing like that. It was just like any other girl".

On what he wanted to do with the product of the pregnancy, he remained calm refusing to talk. Even when he was asked what the name of the child was, he directed this writer to her daughter.

Meanwhile, 10-month old baby clung to her mother , crying and struggling at the same time to remove her blouse in an attempt to reach out for her breast. Unknown to this innocent child, an abominable incident capable of stigmatizing his image, had occurred.

Policemen at Festac Division who were contacted said the case would be charged to court.

Who is telling the truth?
PoliticsOjukwu: Ohanaeze Faults Bianca’s Statement by Earthwide(op): 7:17pm On Feb 16, 2012
ENUGU-THE leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Tuesday, faulted claims by widow of the late former Biafran leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, Bianca, that they neither visited her late husband while he was on his sick bed in London nor paid condolence to his family after his demise.

National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Engr. Ralph Ndigwe, who reacted to the statement made by Bianca on Monday, said her comment made it obvious that some people were deliberately misinforming her.

Ndigwe recalled that he visited Ojukwu in London on three occasions and on each occasion, delivered a get-well message to him on behalf of Ohanaeze as directed by President-General, Amb Ralph Uwaechue.

He said it was not true that Ohanaeze did not pay condolence to Ojukwu's family as claimed by Bianca, explaining that Ohanaeze paid a condolence visit to Nnewi and commiserated with the community and Ojukwu family, in particular, as demanded by Igbo customs and tradition.

Ndigwe noted that in Igbo tradition, when a man dies, his widow would be in the village receiving sympathizers, but noted that when Ohanaeze learnt about Ojukwu's demise and paid condolence visit to Nnewi few days after, they were told that his widow (Bianca) was still in London.

His words: "I went to London three times while Ojukwu was in hospital and on each occasion, the President-General, Amb Ralph Uwaechue directed me to go and visit him on behalf of Ohanaeze.

"I personally spoke to Ojukwu on each occasion I visited and told him that I was sent by the President General. When he learnt of his demise, we went to Nnewi to see the Nzuko Ora Nnewi (Nnewi town union) and the Ojukwu family as demanded by Igbo tradition. We expected that Bianca would be at home, but we were told that she was still in London.

"Later, when on one occasion, I met Emeka Ojukwu junior on the way and he told me that Bianca is back to Enugu, I personally went there to see her but I was told that she was sleeping. I dropped my card."

The Ohanaeze spokesman maintained that some people were obviously feeding Bianca with misinformation about Ohanaeze, wondering what the agenda of such people was.

Ohanaeze, he said further, nominated representatives into the Central Planning Committee for Ojukwu's burial and had been participating actively in the burial arrangements for the ex-Biafran leader as a mark of respect for him and in recognition of his immense contribution to Nigeria and the Igbo nation in particular.

Bianca had made her feelings known while receiving Conference of Democratic Scholars and organisers of Ahiara Colloquium, who were accompanied by Dr Joe Nwaorgu, a representative of Ohanaeze's President General and the spokesman of the organisation, Ndigwe.

Shortly after Nwaorgu presented Bianca with a copy of the programme for 2011 Igbo Day containing a get well letter sent to Ojukwu by Uwaechue, she said:"I want to point out that I am disappointed that they (Ohanaeze) have not paid a condolence visit since his demise.

"They did not come to see him in London. As their member, they should have taken time to visit him or send people to see him with this letter which I am seeing for the first time now. I hope Dr Joe will convey my feelings to the President-General."

PoliticsPandemonium In Sokoto … As Sheep Gives Birth To Monster Baby by Earthwide(op): 11:57am On Feb 09, 2012
Wednesday, February 8, 2012

Residents of Sokoto metropolis are yet to come to terms with the unbelievable incident that occcurred in the city recently. That was when a sheep gave birth to a monstrous being at a government owned veterinary clinic in the Sokoto State capital.

The date was Monday, January 22, this year. The news suddenly came into town at about 5pm that a monster-like creature had been discovered in a sheep’s womb during an operation carried out by some veterinary surgeons in the state.

Daily Sun gathered that the inability of the sheep to deliver made it necessary for the surgeons to carry out the operation, after which the sheep was delivered of the monster baby that looked half-human.

The scene which took place at Fakon Idi Veterinary Clinic, drew thousands of onlookers that trooped out from different parts of the metropolis to catch a glance of the strange being.

It took the intervention of men of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NCDSC) in the state to disperse the huge crowd who were demanding that the owner of the animal should come out to explain what led to the mystery birth even as they insisted that the owner must be probed and possibly executed.

Some of the onlookers who spoke with Daily Sun queried the occurrence that led to the discovery of the monster-like lamb, with many arguing that a man might have copulated with the animal.

Garba Aminu, a commercial motorcycle rider, averred: “This is an abomination in our land. To see a sheep give birth to a half human being is a mystery and that shows how terrible some people are. It is unimaginable that some people will be having intercourse with animals.”

Another onlooker, who simply gave his name as Danladi, wondered how such a development could happen in a morally upright state like Sokoto where the Islamic faith is so deep.

When our correspondent sought official response to the mystery birth, the surgeons that carried-out the operation had a different view.

Deputy Zonal Director, Veterinary Clinic in the state Ministry of Forestry and Animal Health, Dr. Ismail Usman, debunked the rumours going about that the sheep was delivered of a human-like being.

“It was a surprise that people’s perspective could be so negative when it comes to scientific reasoning and thoughts. In fact, the meaning attached to the development on the pregnant sheep by the onlookers was embarrassing.” Dr. Usman stated.

He explained that the sheep was supposed to have been delivered two days earlier but could not, a situation that he described as unusual among animals, especially sheep.

His words: “When they brought the animal down to our office here, it was discovered that the sheep had some problems during its pregnancy. That was responsible for the abnormal growth and the shape of the inborn lamb.”

He advised all owners of livestock in the state to take the health of their animals very seriously, noting that there are enough veterinary personnel in the state to attend to their health cases.

“Bringing animals for antenatal exercise would be a great help in curtailing any abnormalities during pregnancies.”

Another expert, Dr. Dahiru Sani who was one of the surgeons that carried out the operation on the controversial sheep said infections such as German measles, excess drugs and radiation could cause such abnormalities in animal pregnancy.

According to him, “every layman would believe that such a picture is a human-like animal, but in science, it is just a it is just a condition that caused the incident.”
