Politics › Re: Ben Akabueze Contradicts Pantami, Says 5% Telecom Tax Stands by Ebubu: 11:32am On Sep 07, 2022 |
mach7: There is no contradiction.
The Budget Office DG said that the instruction to suspend the collection hasn't been communicated to the Ministry of Finance as it was only seen on the media. So this sensationalist headline is quite unnecessary.
He further said that if the suspension is approved, then they will need to revise the Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) which is being reviewed by the National Assembly, as it would mean that the projected revenue for 2023 will drop and that there will be need to either borrow to fund the gap in revenue or they will have to cut down on expenditures.
Personally, I am surprised with the suspension by President Buhari. We need to boost government revenues and taxation is one of the fastest ways to achieving this. Our data in Nigeria is quite cheap compared to other nations of our development category.
We need to fix things fast. tax only yourself there, fool. don’t you know half of Nigerians already are poor ? just because you have privilege you’re talking rubbish, fool. next year subsidy will be removed and fuel will be 500 per litre, you are supporting for more difficulties and hardship. restrict the tax to only your family. |

Dave really brought light to the good people of Ebonyi even though some of indigine of the state are still tagging him to be a failure. In terms of traffic congestion you mentioned, yeah I saw drastically increase in vehicle and motorcycle than it use to be when Elechi was still in sit. Nice development. mainly members and fans of PDP who call dave umahi a failure; normal party politics jabbing since Dave is in APC. Another group of people who call Dave a failure are civil servants who are due for promotion but are only promoted on paper without receiving the financial benefits accrued to such promotions, individuals who also belong to this category are graduates seeking civil service jobs but dave has locked the portal for civil service recruitment for the past 8 years. I have explained why in my previous post to you. summarily, it is the supporters and beneficiaries of PDP who call him failure, due to party differences (normal), and civil servants who call him failure (not that he’s not paying salaries as at when due, but because he is not increasing their salaries, i have explained why that he says everybody must contribute to the development of ebonyi state and that he’s using the funds for construction since Ebonyi doesn’t have enough money). politicians supporters and civil servants = dave umahi is failure. |

In terms of traffic congestion you mentioned, yeah I saw drastically increase in vehicle and motorcycle than it use to be when Elechi was still in sit. Nice development. no, dave has done very well in keeping Abakaliki clean, electric street lights functional even inside minor streets, night life, road construction , airport, flyovers, international market, teaching hospital. But he has done very poor in civil service recruitment and promotion. every month, civil servants clock the retirement age, but their workload are shifted to junior civil servants instead of employing more civil servants to spread the duty. the available civil servants are over-worked, and they are not promoted even those who have attained the level for promotion, they’ll be promoted on paper but the accrued financial benefits will not be awarded to them. dave is doing very poor in civil service recruitment or employment, and civil service promotion. he came on Ebonyi radio service and said we should see it as contribution to development of ebonyi state to catch up with other states, as ebonyi is lagging behind and he is channelling the money he would have used for recruitment, into infrastructure construction and its maintenance. that we should see it as sacrifice so that Ebonyi ga adimma. so this affects the money Ebonyians would have used to develop the state. i remember the number of rental houses my father built during Elechi era when money was flowing heavily in the civil service, though with unproportional infrastructural development. in dave time, civil servants see nothing other than their same salary they had been earning since elechi time, pay the improved minimum wage naa, dave just added 5k here and there, and said that is the minimum wage he can afford to pay, that we should see as sacrifice so he can build ebonyi, and that besides that, ebonyi does not have so much money like other states. this just explains why there seems to be many scanty lands in Abakaliki capital. Though it is filling up gradually. |

Edoziesmart: But they won't come to Abakaliki because there business won't sell there. Abakaliki don't have population. The capital is too bushy with good roads though Make una still dey jump una Okada for now
But seriously you people from Ebonyi need to try and develop that state for good. The government has tried her best and need you people to also help in better development. Abakaliki don’t have population but traffic congestion is appearing in parts of Abakaliki unlike never before. Spera in deo and Udensi have heavy traffic, it didn’t use to be like this before. Abakaliki population keeps growing as people from neighbouring states come to enjoy the available infrastructure. I’m sure when the airport becomes operational this December, more people will troop into Abakaliki and Uber can now thrive. As for Ebonyians developing Abakaliki personally. We are doing our best, just that Dave’s no employment in state civil service for the past 8 years is affecting personal income of Ebonyians, no promotion in civil service as well. In the midst of this massive inflation in costs of commodity, everybody is still earning what they have been earning since 8 years ago before Dave came into power as Governor, no improvement, no promotion, no intake or employment. Kinda affects the amount of money available for development and erection of personal properties and structures. Not withstanding, Ebonyians are doing their best as to the best of my knowledge, Abakaliki is shining. |

acetylcholine: I shake my head in pity for uninformed individuals like you. The TETfund you all are mentioning today was a product of ASUU's struggle!
Let me educate you a bit. The purpose of TETfund is to provide supplementary source of funding to all tertiary (federal and state) institutions.
TETfund, which is a brainchild of ASUU generates fund through the 2% education tax paid from accessible profits of all companies registered in Nigeria.
Go to most state universities, virtually all buildings were erected through TETfund, except for Admin building, in some cases. So tell me exactly what government is suppose to be doing if not funding education.
You all keep praising the same people striping you and your unborn generation of their Commonwealth, while bad-mouthing the same union that brought about TETfund you are talking of.
If the masses cannot hold the government at the jugular to better the society by investing in education, then there is absolutely no hope for this country, because a country can NEVER rise beyond the level of her education!
Honestly, when I read posts like this, it convinces me that the sacrifices ASUU is going through is not worth it. We should fight for our welfare alone and allow government to hike tuition fees to whatever amount it deems fit. Then parents and students can take up the fight from there. Tertiary education is not meant for all afterall! ASUU should be proscribed. Useless union filled with sorting lecturers and sex hawks. |

Politics › How To Fund Elections by Ebubu(op): 8:11am On Sep 05, 2022 |
Why can’t registered party members fund elections in Nigeria ?
Why can’t an ordinary citizen, a yam seller who is a member of ADC, contribute N5 to fund elections of a party in which he is a registered member of ?
And if there are billionaires in the party, they can be made to fund even very less, almost same amount as the ordinary peasants are funding, in order to prevent hijacking of the party to serve their own personal selfish needs just as we have godfathers misbehaving in Nigeria.
This our attitude of governors funding a party means they’ll hijack the party like wike funds PDP with rivers treasury and tinubu funds apc with Lagos treasury.
Moreover it means less money will be available to handle human oriented policies in the state. It also means the state’s allocation in the penultimate year preceding elections is totally for electioneering.
Check many states now, their cities are now dirty due to elections coming fast, hence funds for sanitary clean up are diverted, among other funds.
If your argument is that registered party members paying peanuts won’t be enough, good and fine that will mean less money for bribing voters on Election Day, less money for frivolities such as going to London to do strategic meeting. That will mean less frivolities like junketeering in private jets.
More so, it means citizens will become even more demandful of their leaders, instead of the present situation where they barely care, this time now, having known their money is used to fund parties, they’ll hold party leaders accountable and party leaders will be directly responsible to their protests, instead of remaining out because the resources used to install him, came from a godfather.
This is part of reason I support Obi getting funds from private Nigerians abroad, his campaigns across Nigeria has been privately funded by Nigerians sympathetic to the party as well.
This is as it should be. Citizens would be more patriotic and campaigning will become more issue-based by candidates, and not a jamboree of rice sharing and other rubbish called empowerment.
A legislature should be put into place to ban Governors and elected officers from using state or national treasury to fund elections, but to improve transparency in party and electioneering funding, that is generated from private citizens and non-billionaires/juggernauts.

Surely Labour will strike and negotiate for improved minimum wage to about 60k from 30k. After all FG now has more money in trillions due to ceased importation of fuel. Minimum wage of 60k and we will be cool |

einsteine: What's the price of fuel in the US, Germany or South Korea?
Internal refineries don't change the price of fuel. People are being sold a lie that Dangote Refinery would reduce the price of fuel. Any decrease would be marginal. The only difference is that there may be no need to utilise forex for importation (at the same time, forex gained from crude oil sales may reduce since Dangote won't be paying for crude oil in dollars). So in that case since forex won’t be used to import fuel, does that mean dollar may drop ? To let’s say 350 ? |

They are saying this for Nigerians to appreciate them instead of insulting them by the time the subsidy is totally removed So even with dangote refinery functioning and subsidy removed. Fuel will still be N500 ? That’s still high. Why can’t it be 250 with an internal refinery ? |
