Crime / Customs Seize 24 Tankers Of Fuel, 40,000 Bags Of Rice, Others In Ogun by ebukajay184: 9:14am On Dec 06, 2019
IgbereTV reports that the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun 1 Command, said it has impounded 24 tankers laden with petrol, over 40,000 bags of smuggled rice among other contraband in the ongoing border closure exercise.
The NCS said it also confiscated items worth millions of naira; including kegs of imported groundnut oil, bags of Indian hemp, hard drugs, fairly used vehicles among others,
This was disclosed on Thursday during an inspection of the seized items by senior officers coordinating the joint border drill operations, who were on a visit to the command from Abuja.
Speaking at the 192 Battalion Army Barracks in Owode, where the fuel tankers were kept, the Deputy Comptroller-General – Enforcement, Inspection and Investigation, Austin Chidi, expressed satisfaction that the joint border patrol operation is achieving results.
The DCG said four fuel trucks were kept somewhere outside the Army barracks because of the volatile nature of their contents.
“Honestly, I am satisfied. You can even see it that because of the drill, everybody is keying in. So, I am happy.”
Chidi told newsmen that smugglers were becoming more desperate as a result of the partial border closure; adding that the seizure of those items shows that the drilling officers are on top of their game.
He said without being told, “the successes recorded is tied to the partial border closure, because if you close the known borders, people become very desperate to use unexpected means to move things.”
The officer commended the synergy between the Customs, Army, Police and Immigration, adding that, “without the synergy it will be difficult to park this kind of volatile product here. The environment alone is volatile to pick five bags of rice around Idiroko. I know how many officers that have died here, because I served here and know they have burnt five officers in one hut. So we know how volatile this place is. This success wouldn’t have been possible without the synergy.”
The border drill coordinator from the Office of the National Security Adviser, Army General Emmanuel Ndagi, on his part, said the joint border drill exercise is a huge success.
“In terms of economic growth, there is big improvement in revenue generation and other socio-economic activities. If you look at the Manufacturer Association of Nigeria, they also commended the partial border closure by the federal government; the rice farmers have also commended it. Even people that are embarking on rural farming activities especially in the poultry business, they have also commended the partial border closure,” Ndagi said.
According to him, “For a long period of time now, seizures particularly in terms of poultry, petroleum products, rice and other things like used clothing have been massive and if you look at it in monetary value, its total is over N4b in the beginning of the border closure. In terms of rice seizure over 40,000 bags has been seized and this closure is in the national interest.”
While conducting the visiting officers round the command, the Comptroller, Michael Agbara assured that his men are on the alert to deal with smugglers, no matter their level of desperation.

Travel / Ogun Auto Crash Kill 46 by ebukajay184: 4:17pm On Dec 03, 2019
IgbereTV reports that the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), on Tuesday, revealed that no fewer than 46 persons died in road accidents in Itori, Ewekoro Local Government Area, Ogun, Lagos/Abeokuta Expressway between January and November 2019.
Mr Sunday Oko, Itori Unit Commander of FRSC, made this known during the 2019 Ember Months Campaign at Papalanto Motor Garage on Ilaro Expressway, Ogun.
Oko said 69 vehicles, comprising 60 commercial and nine private vehicles were involved in accidents in which 193 people sustained injuries within the period.
The unit commander said that 239 casualties were recorded in 56 crashes in the period under review.
“Most of the road crashes that led to loss of lives and property can be traced to non-compliance with traffic rules and regulations as well as negative attitude of some road users,’’ he said.
Oko stressed the need to intensify public enlightenment campaign because of the increasing population, urbanisation and motorisation, which had brought about regular occurrence of crashes.
He said this development had become worrisome because roads played a vital role in connecting business and achieving economic growth.
Also, Mr Clement Oladele, Ogun Sector Commander of FRSC, said that over 80 per cent of road crashes were caused by drivers.
Oladele, represented by Mrs Bridget Asekhauno, Ogun Head of Administration of FRSC, implored motorists to desist from driving without drivers’ licence.
“FRSC enjoins motorists to ensure that their vehicles are properly maintained before putting them on the road and shun the use of ‘Tokunbo tyres,’’ he said.
The FRSC boss cautioned motorists to adhere to specified speed limits so that the drivers could easily control the vehicle in case of brake failure.

Politics / Leave Nnamdi Kanu Alone – Kanu’s Family Tell Abia Police Commissioner by ebukajay184: 7:05am On Dec 01, 2019
IgbereTV reports that the family of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, (IPOB), Nnandi Kanu has appealed to the Abia State Commissioner of Police, Ene Okon to leave their son and brother alone.
Emma Kanu, who is the spokesman for Kanu's family has said that the IPOB leader did nothing to warrant his arrest and that Nnamdi Kanu is even working to see to the liberation of the Police Commissioner.
The police Commissioner had warned that the IPOB leader would be arrested if he comes into Abia State for his mother’s burial.
Emma Kanu said, “Arrest my brother for what offence? He should leave Nnamdi Kanu alone and go after the Fulani herdsmen who have been killing people in Abia State and elsewhere.
“What has he (CP) done about the Fulani herdsmen and the rest of it? And what is Nnamdi Kanu’s crime to him?
“Please ask the commissioner of police how many Fulani herdsmen he arrested and taken to court.
“Also ask him, how many people who have killed people in this country in the name of Islam has he arrested and taken to court; how much more a man who has done nothing wrong.
“If CP Okon does not know, inform him that Nnamdi Kanu’s agitation is for his own good, short and simple, IPOB has come to liberate him because he is a Biafran too.
“Forget about his open denials we know why it is so, but deep down inside him, he knows that what I’m saying is the truth, that he is a Biafran inside out.”
The police had warned it would not entertain any group in the name of IPOB during your mother’s burial because it is a proscribed organization.
Emma Kanu, added, “Proscribed by who, by a Kangaroo court? Proscribed by Kangaroo court, yes, rubber-stamp court, yes.
“I was expecting the CP to stand firm and make sure the Fulani herdsmen and Boko Haram and the rest of them are proscribed and not IPOB because we do not carry gun nor do we carry any weapon.
“The CP should know that my mother’s body does not belong to IPOB alone, but to humanity around the world. I will like to know what exactly Nnamdi Kanu has done to Abia State commissioner of police as a person.
“If the proscription of IPOB was sensible enough, tell him that I said Nnamdi Kanu has come to liberate him from the shackles of the Hausa/Fulani oligarchy.”

Politics / APGA May Collapse Under Obiano- Party Scribe by ebukajay184: 12:53pm On Nov 25, 2019
IgbereTV reports that former secretary, All Progressives Grand Alliance(APGA), Jerry Obasi, has criticized Governor Willie Obiano for neither attending all the posthumous events in memory of the party’s great leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu nor ensuring that APGA’s hierarchy and apparatus were visible
Obasi alleges that Obianos attitude is an outright disrespect and insult to Bianca Odumegwu Ojukwu, the wife of the Biafra warlord.
Obasi frowned at the trend of always sending only the Deputy Governor, Dr Nkem Okeke as the sole representative of the Government and Party, to such weighty and prestigious occasions by Governor Obiano.
The APGA chieftain who made this known in a statement on Sunday, lamented the disturbing trend of monkey dey work, baboon dey chop in APGA, where people who had neither sown in the Party, suddenly appear from nowhere to reap the rewards of those who have been toiling for the Party whenever the harvest was ripe.
He said, “Obiano sternly against his continued attacks and disrespect against Her Excellency, Iyom Bianca Odumegwu Ojukwu. It will only result in the death of the party and once that happens, history will record that APGA died in the hands of Obiano.
“I will advise Obiano to do all he can to make peace with Biancan Ojukwu as everyone knows she is the heart and soul of APGA, therefore, should have a significant input in party affairs and be able to raise a signal when things go wrong without being subject to government sponsored abuse.
