Politics / Children Are Out Of School In Nigeria Because They Can't Pay N80 Levy - Uwais by ebukajay184: 3:01pm On Apr 06, 2023
Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Social Investments, Maryam Uwais has said some children are out of school because of a levy of as little as 80 Naira, IGBERETV reports.

Uwais revealed that some children were out of school in Northern Nigeria because of an N80 levy.

Uwais who spoke during a Channels Television interview, blamed the country’s population for the increasing figure of out-of-school children.

She added that state governments must stand up to their responsibilities in reducing the number of out-of-school children.

In her words;

“We have a population that is growing faster than our economy, and we are not targeting those issues that are increasing the numbers. There are so many differences. We need to determine the reason for these numbers. We need to be more strategic in ways to solve the problem.

“So it is essential to monitor the situation, to get the causation factor being given as feedback. We are under the National Bureau of Statistics; they can analyse the trends and address the issue.

“I will give you an example; I was in one State, I won’t tell you the State, but it is a northern state, I saw 13 children playing, and I asked them, ‘Why aren’t you in school? They gave different things, and they all had aspirations as young children. They said they aren’t in school because of N80 as Parent Levy or something like that.

“Now, if we can use such information coming from all communities or that being the most prevalent issue for out-of-school children, it can be tackled at the state government level because these are hidden levies that impact the ability to go to school.”

Nigeria’s out-of-school-children figure stands at 20 million according to recent data by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, UNESCO.

The statistics showed that India, Nigeria and Pakistan have the highest number of out-of-school children globally between ages 6 and 18.

Politics / "Bola Tinubu Is A Drog Lord; If He Is On Fire, I Will Not Urinate On Him" - Reno by ebukajay184: 1:44pm On Apr 06, 2023
"Bola Tinubu Is A Drog Lord; If He Is On Fire, I Will Not Urinate On Him" - Reno Omokri

Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri has called Nigeria's President-Elect, Bola Tinubu a “drog Lord”, IGBERETV reports.

Reno said he intentionally misspelled the words for personal reasons.

He shared a photo of Tinubu and wrote on his Instagram page;

"culture where money, rather than respect, is the cornerstone is a low culture, that may prosper materially, but will never prosper spiritually or politically. A culture where a child can open his mouth and call his own father "a nobody"? Tufiakwa! Nyama!

What is money? Something that we will all leave on Earth. That is how you rate a life? Do you know why a Bini man will fight you physically if you dare insult the Omo N'Oba N'Edo Uku Akpolokpolo? Because they view him not as a king, but as their father. That is why for over a thousand years, their culture has stood. Firm!

Until a culture has been recalibrated to stop revolving around money, and to gravitate towards respect, it will always be under the control of higher cultures that are built on respect. Just look at pre-colonial and post colonial Nigeria. Not much has changed in terms of power structure!

Because you worship money, you also feel that everybody is motivated by money. Like you. Listen to me carefully: Bola Tinubu is a known drog lord (deliberate spelling to avoid you know what). If he is on fire, I will not urinate on him. No amount of money and or post will make me support him. I will protest and support the Peoples Democratic Party petition against his victory with my money and my energy. But as far as I am concerned, if the Supreme Court does not overturn his victory, which I pray they do, I will recognise and accept him as my President on May 29, 2023, and torment him if he toes the path of Buhari.

It is you and your likes that do everything because of money. For 500 years, my lineage has never been poor. And I am not about to be the weak link that will bring poverty into my pedigree. My actions are the result of my principles."

Blessing CEO Remanded in Prison Custody Till May 30 Over Alleged Cyber-Bullying And Libel

The police in Lagos arraigned social media influencer, Blessing Okoro (a.k.a. Blessing CEO) in court for alleged Cyber-bullying and Libel, IGBERETV reports.

Blessing was picked up by men of the Federal Criminal Investigation Department FCID on Thursday, 30th March.

Following her arrest, she was arraigned before the court on Friday on a six-count charge of alleged cyber-bullying, libel, and for exhibiting uncensored movies.

The prosecution counsel, Rotshang Faith Dimka of the Force Headquarters, Abuja, told the court that Blessing Okoro of Lekki, Lagos, on October 16, 2022, “intentionally sent messages using her Instagram handle @officialblessingceo to bully, threaten and harass one Folashade Samuels, a.k.a Mamajazz, a younger sister to the late Bimbo Ogbonna, wife of automobile businessman, Ikechukwu Ogbonna aka IVD. Dimka also told the court that Blessing used her Instagram handle @officialblessingceo, to injure the reputation of Folashade Samuels and the late Bimbo Ogbonna, by exposing them to hatred, contempt, and ridicule.

The police said some of the messages allegedly sent by Blessing include;

“Let’s ask Mamajazz where her father is?? ? Their father had exactly the same issue with their mother Ebele and he ran away for his dear life. IVD’s crime was that he was not man enough to run… The family of late Bimbo is after IVD’’s properties and life. Especially her elder sister Mamajazz. Bimbo and IVD are well-known people in Lagos and it’s not a hidden fact that even in their estate that Bimbo is violent. Everybody knows how she breaks a bottle on her husband’s head on a daily .. Bimbo killed herself and has always wanted to kill herself right from childhood. Evidence loading. All the voice notes and evidence will be on my YouTube and Facebook. Subscribe,”

I will ask Mamajazz, the late Bimbo’s sister few questions…where you in talking terms with your sister before (she) died? Are you owing your late sister 18 million? Did she block you before her death? Do you even like your sisters’ children?? Answers this question because | will slam the internet with raw facts and evidence.”

I am stepping into the case as the official relationship therapist of IVD… Will drop all the evidence that IVD did not kill his wife or even hurt her. The late Bimbo was the violent person and suicidal victim”

The police told the court that the defendants contravened Section 24 (2)(a)(1) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc) Act, 2015, and Section 375 of the Criminal Code Act. They also contravened Section 33 of the NFVCB Act, 2004.

Blessing CEO pleaded not guilty, when the charges were read to her.

Politics / Peter Obi Condemns Arrest Of Chude by ebukajay184: 8:06pm On Mar 21, 2023
Labour Party's presidential candidate, Peter Obi has changed has condemned the arrest of Nnamdi Chude, IGBERETV reports.

Nnamdi Chude who is a staunch supporter of Peter Obi was reportedly arrested by the interpol during the gubernatorial and house of assembly election in Anambra on Saturday 18th March.

Condemning the arrest, Peter Obi wrote on his Twitter handle;

"After due enquiries, I regret to say that the arrest of Mr Nnamdi @chude__ is a further confirmation of Nigeria’s poor and declining performance in the Rule of Law, Voice and Accountability, and other governance indicators.

"With Voice, and Accountability, the No 1 key indicator of good governance, it is very important, particularly for those in authority to note and accept that freedom of expression is a fundamental right and ingredient for the development of a good society.

"While I appreciate that the freedoms must be exercised in line with the rule of law, arresting Nigerians for tweeting on their leaders and those in authority decimates the opportunity for inclusive governance and accountability which are highly needed in a developing country like Nigeria. As we are all Nigerians and Nigeria is our only country, we must continue to make efforts to build a better Nation where justice, fairness, equity, tolerance, prosperity, accountable leadership and rule of law shall reign with no Nigerian feeling suppressed or oppressed. As leaders, it is important for us to know that there are several consequences of occupying public office. For instance, citizens will have their different thoughts on us and we have the right to reply. Arbitrary use of our office or in unrestrained way will do no one any good, including those in authority.

"I therefore appeal to all concerned to please treat the issue most objectively on rule of law, and compassionately release the young man in question.

God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria. - PO"

Leadership Is Not By Force, Don't Kill People Before You Lead Them - Jonathan Tells Politicians

Nigeria's former President, Goodluck Jonathan has advised Nigerian politicians ahead of Saturday's governorship and house of assembly election, IGBERETV reports.

Speaking on Thursday, March 16, at Sampou community in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State shortly after paying a condolence visit to Governor Douye Diri who lost his father, Pa Abraham Diri, Jonathan admonished politicians against do-or-die politics, saying those who aspire to rule should not force themselves on the people.

Jonathan said;

“Leadership is not by force. It is about serving the people. So, if you want to lead the people, you cannot kill them before you lead them.

“In Bayelsa, the challenges will be minimal because we do not have governorship election on Saturday. But I urge our people to conduct themselves well.”

At least 10 passengers were burnt to death in an auto crash along the Oyo-Ogbomoso road on Thursday, March 9, 2023, IGBERETV reports.

Politics / Punish Policemen Who Watch Violence Go On At Polling Units- Mike Okiro To IGP by ebukajay184: 9:48am On Mar 10, 2023
Punish Policemen Who Watch While Violence Is Being Carried Out At Their Polling Units - Mike Okiro Tells IGP

Former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mike Okiro, has said police officers should be held responsible for any violence that arises at the polling unit they are deployed to, IGBERETV reports.

The former police boss who said this while condemning intimidation of voters and other violence during Presidential and National Assembly polls, said it is imperative for him to air his concern because Nigerians and the international community monitored the exercise.

He also urged the current Inspector General, Alkali Baba and other service chiefs not to allow miscreants to tarnish the image of the country.

He said;

“Some observers, for example, said they witnessed 135 incidents involving but not limited to seizure or snatching of ballot boxes by armed gangs and political thugs, vote-buying, delays and irregularities.

“These resulted in delay in uploading results from each of 176,000 polling units to Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal.

“What strikes me most, and which are objectionable and condemnable is violence and voter-intimidation, especially use of gunmen and thugs to harass, scare away voters and officials, as well as snatching of ballot boxes.

“Sadly, some policemen were accused of watching while the violence was orchestrated. In some domains, some were accused of threatening voters to vote certain candidates against or face consequences, like being driven away where they live.

“In other areas, property are destroyed, ostensibly to cow them to vote for candidates not their choice. Should such conduct still be trailing Nigeria in the 21st century? The answer is NO!

“The Constitution guarantees freedom of movement as well as freedom of Nigerians to reside in any part of the country without molestation. It stipulates freedom to vote and be voted for in any part of the country.

“Any Nigerian has the right to contest election in any part of the country once such a citizen is qualified to stand for election. Citizens should not be forced or cowed to vote for or pander to dictates of any candidate other than the candidate of their choice.

“Therefore, as the governorship and House of Assembly elections hold on Saturday, March 18, I implore the social media to be vigilant and aggressive in capturing video clips of violence involving armed gangs and thugs hired to disrupt the polls.

“Persons, no matter how highly or lowly placed, threatening or forcing Nigerians to vote for candidates not their choice are not exempted, including policemen who watch irregularities and violence being perpetrated.

“Such social media report should be explicit with the state, local government, ward, polling unit or specific domain where such incidents are witnessed. The report should also be signed or bear the name of the reporter so it will not be dismissed as fake news by investigators.

“By the same token, I implore the IGP to deal with policemen who watch while violence is being committed by hired gunmen, thugs and sundry election miscreants and offenders.”

Politics / Obaseki Begs Edo Residents To Accept Old N500 And N1000 Notes by ebukajay184: 8:34am On Mar 10, 2023
The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has appealed to residents of the state to accept the old notes, IGBERETV reports.

Obaseki made the appeal after the Supreme Court ruled that the old N500 and N1000 notes remain legal tender till December 31, 2023.

The Edo State Government is one of the co-defendants with the federal government against Kaduna and some other state governments that urged the Supereme Court to nullify the February 10 deadline for old naira notes set by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

However, Obaseki in a statement on Thursday, March 9, by the Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, said the old notes should be accepted alongside the new ones to facilitate trade and boost economic activities.

He said: “With the Supreme Court judgement, the controversy over the circulation of the notes have been put to rest and the people are urged to accept and trade with the notes.

“We are also exploring other means of transaction such as electronic transfers, among others, as all issues of cash available are addressed by the relevant government agencies
