Stop misleading people. Have been staying in the NE for almost 3 years. Rented in Skyview for 2 years and recently bought our own house in Cornerstone. If you mentioned specific areas in northeast with high crime rates, I might be able to clarify more. But don't include areas in the NE like Skyview, Cornerstone, Savannah, Redstone, Cityscape and Livingston in your myopic generalization.

quote author=Onlineise post=87216103]

Stay away from NE, to put it in 9ja way for you, my wife once drove to Surulere to make her hair, parked her car outside, came back and two side mirrors were gone...if you can relate to that then you relate to NE.

SW-NW-SE in that order.
They will. My wife is catholic and am not a Christian. We only presented our wedding certificate issued by her church. We have 2 kids registered.

Wow!

Thanks for sharing this info.

Kindly give a brief info on the letter from the insurance company in Nigeria.

Was it addressed to the Insurance company in Canada or 'To whom it may concern'.

What was the content of the letter?

Thanks

Hello everyone,

I just got my PR and I would appreciate it if a few of my questions/concerns can be addressed.
1. I have the ACCA certification and considering getting the CPA. Can I use my M.Sc transcript instead of the B.Sc? //// Check here for more details. http://www.cpawsb.ca/ You should submit both M.Sc and B.Sc. You might be lucky with more exemptions if you submit both.

2. I am pregnant in Alberta and would be landing about 6 weeks to my EDD with my two kids.
What are the typical work hours for full time jobs? Is it realistic to assume that I can work full time with kids? (I do not intend to start job search until the baby is about three months old anyway). ///// It depends on the age of your kids. Daycare fees no be beans ooo. Full time jobs are 8 hrs. some are shift based. resume 7am, 8am or 9am.

3. Per the CPA and other accounting/finance related jobs, is there a group (eg whatsapp, telegram) I can join to keep abreast of events and trainings?

I got a discount on my insurance with sharp insurance in Calgary. They requested for the FRSC letter and a letter from my insurance company in Nigeria indicating that i insured my car for at least 3 years and did not make any insurance claim (NO ACCIDENT).

freeradical:
Hi guys long time So someone was asking if he should get the FRSC drivers record. My advice is that anything you can get from Nigeria while you can still get it cos you never know how it can come in handy. I was Alberta bound but I still got the FRSC drivers record through the help of @mummyjaygirls who landed a month after we did. Even though i did not need it one instinct pushed me to do it. So it happened I lost my drivers license the day I went for my first knowledge test, which I failed cry , and the registry was adamant to enrolling me for the Non GDL driving program until they see my license. I had to wait for months after applying online for a renewal from FRSC which wasn't forth coming. Deciding to do the normal naija thing after waiting for months by asking a friend to hook me up with someone to get the license from FRSC office in Lagos. Dude ended up processing one fake license like that which I didnt know cos it looked authentic so I used it to apply. I got denied and exempted from the GDL exemption but was given a number to call and appeal. That's how I appealed and took all my documents including the FRSC record I didnt need. The peace officer only took note of that letter and said he recognized it as original. That's how he started apologizing to me that it was a trainee that handled my filenif mot they wont have denied me. He said they were aware that agents process fake drivers license and pass it as original to unsuspecting Nigerians applying from diaspora. That's how I was allowed to take d road test a d got my license the following week.

This is just one example. I've seen guys that got good insurance deals because they had a letter from their insurance company from back home. Once your instinct prompts u to get any document follow that instinct because the force moving you to Canada knows you are gonna need it.
Hello Seniors,

1. My child will be 4 in dec, I understand he is qualified for kindergarten. Please is there a fixed time he has to resume or can he just join anytime we arrive? We are thinking of leaving mid-september. / He can join once you land in September. My 4 yrs old kid joined last yr Oct. Note that most kindergartens are half day school but all depends on your address. You might be lucky with a full day kindergarten.

2. Are catholic schools totally free for kindergartners? Not totally free. Paid $57.00 for my son in kindergarten and $125.00 for my son in grade two. The fees are paid annually and can be paid before the end of school year.

You will need document(s) from Catholic church to register but some families have registered their kids without any document from Catholic church.

We reside in Calgary and requirement for other cities might be different.

It was smooth and straight forward. Luckily for us, my wife had approached @freeradical's wife for "expo".The same officer attended to both of us and fortunately for us, he asked the same question and we answered like a "Boss". We landed safely in Calgary the next morning and no immigration check again. A week and few days here, SIN done, got phone lines (freedom mobile) accounts (checking, savings and credit card) opened, alberta health card was delivered to our address today. Getting kids registered for school on Wednesday( you make appointment in advance in this school close to our home). So far, So good...

Guy, i bin dey find you everywhere ooo.. Did our landing together @ montreal airport..email me here obeadeniyi@gmail.com

freeradical:
So my people it's been a long couple of days for me. I'm here tho to pay my debt of sharing our landing experience. Take a seat it's a long read

We left for the airport at 2:00am in two cars because we are a family of four as well as our entourage (close family member). We had with us 9 check-in bags and 4 carry on luggages. We were flying with royal air Marco. I planned to pay for two extra luggages because I promised to get foodstuffs for my hosts in Edmonton from Nigeria. We pre weighed all our luggages from home but when we threw them into the airline scale two of them weighed above 24kg and the agent asked us to reduce them. Trouble began for me when the lady informed me that my infants check in baggage assignment was just 10kg as against the 23kg I had pre packed for him. This was mostly foodstuff I used his weight allowance for so the thought of dropping my eggs I left a sad look on my face. Luckily my wife came up with a brilliant idea and I dunno how she managed it but she repacked the bags with a GMG bag and it was all good. I proceeded to pay for my extra luggages and they were like it's 160 euros for the first bag and 250 euro for the second bag. I was like broda that's too much na. The guy was like ok I like your face today just pay $400 USD for both bags and do something on the side for me. I obliged broda and paid him the money with 2k extra for his troubles. All our bags were neatly wrapped and tagged so we said our goodbyes and proceeded to boarding.

The flight from Lagos to Casablanca was smooth. The flight took off at 6:15am and arrived Casablanca at about 10:00 am. I forgot my lenses inside the plane will we disembarked and though I remembered all my efforts to retrieve it proved abortive. The layover in Casablanca was 7hrs long and we didn't start boarding until 5:30pm. Though we had two kids the time flew just by because there was a play area were kids were slugging it out while parents sat close by. It really kept our two year old engaged until it was time to board. Also there were enough duty free stores around to kill time for adults. The next flight to Montreal took off at 6:30pm and was a bigger plane than the first. The flight was very smooth and comfortable. There was inflight entertainment on every seat and the food was not so bad after all. My daughter was so tired she slept almost all through the flight. More relief for mum and dad. We were given declaration forms to fill towards the end of the flight. We arrived Montreal at 08:45pm Montreal time. We disembarked quickly so as to be amongst the first to pass through CBSA and conclude the scary landing formalities. It was a long walk from plane to the immigration section though there were several areas where they put technology to help with the movement. We got to the immigration section first it was a CBSA officer who asked for our travel documents, declaration card and CPR. He asked us if we had goods to follows and I answered no. He asked if we were bringing any food and I said yes. Then he made some inscription on our document and directed us to the office to see the main immigration officer.

When we got there we were asked to pick a number and wait for our turn like what you get in an mtn customer service centre. When our number showed up we went to the officer and exchanged greetings. He asked for our passports and CPRs. He looked at them and at the same time the following conversation ensued
VO: So you are a skilled worker?
Me: Yes
VO: What's your skill
Me: I'm a manufacturing manager
VO: That's right, How about you ma'am? (He directed this question to my wife)
Wifey: I'm a fashion designer
VO: That's okay
VO: So, how much do you have both here in Canada and back home
Me: Quoted an amount in Naija
VO: Sorry I don't understand that. Give me the figure in Canadian dollar
Me: $22900
VO: okay we can round that off to 23k
Me: That's fine
VO: You guys can go have a seat let me prepare your documents. I will call u when they are ready.
Me: Thank you.

We walked briskly back to our seat and sat down. After about 20mins he called us again. Once we got there he handed us the stamped CPRs and he said welcome to Canada. He started explaining how important the CPR document is and adviced us never to lose it. He also gave an explanation on the process to citizenship and our rights as permanent residents. Then he told us to update our address online as soon as we get one that they won't send our PR card to someone else's.

Na so we pack ourselves run comot for there o before bros go change e mind. We went to get boarding passes for our final flight to Edmonton international airport which we boarded the following morning at 7:00am. We arrived Edmonton at 10:00am (Edmonton is 2hrs ahead of Montreal). We were picked at the airport by our host and when we got home we were all tired, ate and went to bed.

Hope our story helps someone coming after us. Canada is very cold o especially this Edmonton. I'm still struggling to adapt to it. The place though is beautiful. The city is well planned and everything works here. We have been trying to settle in after the thanksgiving holidays. We have got SIN and phone lines. Yesterday we went to the welcome centre for immigrants office at Millborough market mall where we had an employment session. We have also applied for Alberta health tho it's still being processed. There is so much work to do but we take it one step at a time.

Boss13:

I just read a comment where this has been nipped in the bud. If your POF is complete and you still forward pension fund, it will be ignored. If your proof of fund is not complete and you use whatever percentage of your pension fund to support, you will get ADR (additional document requirement) asking you to provide documentary evidence to complete your POF.

I am certain Accra VO will send you an email.

For the guy asking if POF is different from Settlement fund - yes it is. POF is proof that you have this fund and you forward documentation to the VO, who will first review your POF document, confirm from your bank and express satisfaction that you have the fund.

Settlement fund is after you have collected COPR and you have landed in Canada. It is the fund you actually have with you (either in cash or otherwise) at the airport. You will be asked to show funds you came with. This could be cash, which must be declared, investment certificate, TBills, Cashier cheque etc. - now you can add Pension fund certificate and inform the officer that this fund will be credited to you soon even if you don't have the fund in your account. In this situation, you can even open your Nigerian account and show them your bank balances and tell them you are transferring your funds immediately you open a Canadian account. In some cases, customs don't ask for settlement funds, maybe they are tired for the day.

Thank you for your detailed analysis. Actually i intend to show 25% of my pension account balance as the POF. But with your explanation, i would have to increase my FD to 100% of the required POF. Thank you and God Bless.

I can confidently tell you that Pension funds if submitted will not be calculated as your POF.

Let me explain - you need to prove you have funds to settle in Canada and take care of your family for the meanwhile. This fund MUST be available to you at any point in time - Pension fund isn't.

Now when you get to Canada - you can show your Pension fund as part of your settlement funds. That will be accepted to enable you gain entry. Please note settlement fund is not proof of fund.

POF is before you get COPR. Settlement fund is after you get COPR and you are landing in Canada. What you disclosed above is what you will show border control when you get to Canada. They will not ask you for 6 months bank statement. However, the VO must ascertain that the fund you claim you have is actually yours.

Pension fund is allowed. I went to my PFA ( IBTC Pensions Managers) to confirm if only 25% of my account balance can be considered as POF for Canada PR Visa. I was informed that the total balance in my account would be considered. That though 25% is considered for those that are out of work and still in Nigeria. 100% is considered for those applying for Canada PR.

For those that have submitted their eAPR, what is the specification of passport photograph you used for ur eAPR. I saw some thing like 50mm*70mm and must have name of studio and date behind on CIC website whereas the one I took from one of these visa passport business centres was 35mm*45mm and didn't have the name of d studio and date.

Though the guy kept telling me it's d Canada format and he has done it for others before me but I'm being skeptical because it's not d specification I saw on CIC website.

Is this something I should be concerned about as I'm ready to go for another passport shoot.

The studio is correct.. name of studio and date on photo are required for paper based application.

Congrats @deckonne..

How much did qlife charge for the medical examination?

deckonne:
Hey guys, I've been following the threads on canada study permit and the information here had been helpful saved me 300k from the hands of agents who know nothing.

I submitted my student visa application on 3 feb 2017, got approval mail from CIC on 23 feb, 2017 for may semester lambton college (Embedded systems engineering design). It's a two year course, i didn't get the two years. I was given a year and 3 months from start of semester because of passport validity. I learnt about the study permit not exceeding validity of the passport way after i had prepared all my documents with the passport number, i was running out of time i had to take the risk since it can be extended.

(Paper route)
I did upfront medicals at qlife
Submitted the CIC docs,
Statement of purpose
birth certificates of family members
Sponsor's Account statement showing 12m
Mother's pension documents 6m
Father's Shares documents 100k
Sworn affidavit from sponsor
Letter of sponsorship from sponsor addressed to VO
Mother's birth certificate
Document to prove sponsor is my father
Study leave application & approval letters
Professional reference letter addressed to VO
Employment letter
Account statement showing paid salaries (balance is 1k)
Parents' marriage certificate and documents showing father is next of kin to deceased wife
Landed property documents worth 30m
Letter of reference from father's employer
Father's work ID card
Mother's death certificate
1st semester fees receipt
Offer letter
Virgin passport
Documents of previous education & professional certifications (B.Eng Elect/Elect)
Prayers.

I'd say put yourself in the VO's shoes and give yourself everything you need to prove that you have enough funds, and you are coming back.

Affidavit in lieu of custom papers? U must be joking.. I don't think you even know how it looks like.. well it's computer generated and replaceable if lost.. if you don't have custom paper for your car, I would advice you limit your movement to within your city. No intercity linked with federal highway or inter state movement..
