*Rewane: Sub-national Experience Not Enough to Run Government at Federal Level* •Says Nigeria’s economy plagued with misalignment between policy direction, economic destination Dike Onwuamaeze The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Financial Derivatives Company Limited, Mr. Bismarck Rewane, has called the attention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration on the, “need to ramp up the skills in understanding federal and national economic dynamics” because experience gained at state government’s level is not enough to run a federal government. Rewane pointed out that the Tinubu’s “management team is vast and experienced in subnational economic policies” and warned that, “transplanting a state team to run a federal structure has serious limitations.” He also observed that, “Nigeria has moved far ahead in the economic decay curve,” warning that “subnational experience is inadequate for running a federal government. Therefore, new skills and capacity are required because state executive councils do not have responsibility for macros, i.e. growth, inflation, external obligations, exchange rate management, foreign policy and external affairs management.” Rewane, stated emphatically that “the All Progressive Congress (APC) will have to prove that it is not an oligarch machine,” and advised that, “the presidency will have to maintain a distance from political cronies and hustlers and focus on pure economic management for the next 12 to 18 months.” According to him, “exchange rate management and allowing for price discovery are critical to the political favourability calculus.” Rewane, expressed these views in a paper he presented at the November edition of the Lagos Business School Breakfast Session titled “Policy Direction Misaligned with Economic Destination” in which he said that the country’s domestic environment is “caught in a web of economic contradictions.” He said there was a, “disconnection between policy direction and economic destination.” Rewane identified the country’s economic destination in the next eight years as achieving a GDP of $1trillion, average annual growth rate of 7.0 per cent, interest rate of 9.0 per cent, inflation rate of 13 per cent, exchange rate of N550-N600/ dollar and the projection that unemployment would fall to 17 per cent from 33 per cent. However, the policy direction is “monetary tightening but loose monetary conditions” and “foreign exchange reform in theory but managed fixed exchange rate in reality,” adding that personnel changes are not the same as policy changes. He noted that “credibility gap makes policy ineffective” while “lags are increasing as people’s belief evaporates” and “credibility gap continues to widen making policy implementation more arduous.” He further pointed out that “the lags between policy articulation, announcement, impact and peoples’ belief are becoming wider,’ adding that the recent “Supreme Court’s judgment (on the 2023 presidential election) and the bickering of retired judges are making a bad situation worse.” According to him, “macroeconomic stability is dependent mainly on good policies but more on credibility.” The revered economist also attributed the volatility in Nigeria’s foreign exchange market to the crisis of false expectation and lack of clarity on the sources of dollar, which is fueling currency speculation. He also expressed the view that the naira was theoretically undervalued by 20.46 per cent at NAFEM rate of N993.82 and 31.86 per cent at NAFEM rate of N1,160 assuming the unification of exchange rates, emphasing that the Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) of the Naira is N790.44 per dollar. He also remarked that Nigeria’s foreign exchange market is structurally defective, opaque and controlled by rent-seeking oligarchs who also control the political machine. Rewane, also averred that the features of current structure of the country’s supply of foreign exchange bore the characteristics of price discriminating monopoly as the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is controlling 85 per cent of foreign exchange supply to the market with no price discoveries, which is creating arbitrage opportunities. He advised that the solution was for the CBN to promote transparency, efficiency and price discovery in the foreign exchange market through a wholesale auction system where banks, financial institutions and large corporations should submit bids and offer for specific currency pairs (e.g., USD/NGN, GBP/NGN) at specified prices and quantities. According to him, this would enhance transparency in the foreign exchange market by affording participants equal access to pricing information. Its other benefits, he said, included price discovery as exchange rate is determined based on bids and offers to promote stability and liquidity of the market. |

So why did the news headlines carry the news in a way that all 274 passengers were simply returned ? When below is the actual fact behind the news And when I followed and read the link there was no such explanation.(NOTE;Media should be careful as God will prepare a special hell for them because of News misconception misinformation misguiding mischief and causing chaos almost all the time!) This is the actual fact below 👇🏾 👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾 Saudi Arabia has three types of visas - evisa, umra visa and hajj visa. Most of the passengers the airline took from Lagos had an evisa and went to perform Umra in Saudi. Only the people it took from Kano had umra visas and they were the ones the Saudis allowed in. They cancelled the evisas because they are supposed to be used for tourism and commercial purposes, not umra. The agent in Lagos apparently duped the passengers convincing them that they can perform umra with the evisas. The airline wouldn't know why the passengers were in the country, they were only satisfied that they had valid visas to be there *Copied* 😏😏😏 |

THE CRY OF A UNIVERSITY LECTURERS *Dear secondary school teachers and school owners* , please , help the students and the public by ensuring that students in your school write examinations by themselves and merit the grades they brandish on their SSCE results. We are tired of seeing students with A1 in Mathematics but cannot resolve the smallest of fraction. A student with distinctions in Physics and chemistry but knows next to nothing about chemical reactions or energy conversion, even simple chemical formula for water. I had to ask some of my UG1 students to look for a tutorial teacher to help them with JS 3 and SS1 mathematics and basic science and introduction to Chemistry. The whole of them in my organic chemistry at college of Agricultural Science have excellent SSCE results and are visibly confused at the sight of any nomenclature of organic compounds. Their first semester performance betrayed the several A1s and B3s on the WAEC they carry about. These students you help to acquire grades they can't defend are usually frustrated in the ivory tower. Save them a voyage of pain and regrets in the future by ensuring they are well tutored and allow to prepare and write their examinations unaided. Moreso, the aftermath effects of all these exam malpractices are alarming. Some of these include Sex for marks and jobs, just because they can't cope and compete with their colleagues who are real and better off. The urge for quick ànd sudden wealth to cover up their shame, just because they can't cope and continue with the 'stress' of academia. We all know how they intend to achieve the so called wealth and riches. Going into politics is another worse aspect of this. Please and please, Teachers, Parents, School Owners and Government Officials, let us all help our children from future embarrassment, disgrace, insults and eventual sudden fall just because of our own selfish and foolish interest. *Thank you for your understanding* *Association of Concerned Professionals* #C O P I E D. |
FACT CHECK: Has The Saudi Government Agreed To Invest In Nigeria’s Refineries & Support CBN’s Reforms? VERDICT: FALSE & MISLEADING PLOT: The Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) had on 10th November 2023 reported via X (formerly Twitter) that Bola Ahmed Tinubu had secured investment from the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia after meeting with the crown prince of the oil rich Gulf state, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on 10th November 2023. First of all, it is important to note that Bola Ahmed Tinubu didn’t meet exclusively with the crown prince of Saudi Arabia as portrayed by NTA, but rather with other African Heads-of-States who attended the ‘Saudi-Africa Summit’ organized by the kingdom to foster investmentopportunities between the continent and the oil rich kingdom. As verified from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s official press, Saudi Gazette, no explicit agreement was or has been reached between Nigeria and Saudi Arabia for investment in Nigeria’s refineries or the CBN, as per NTA’s report. Further investigation reveals that the blueprint laid out for the project encompasses Africa as a continent without particularly specifying what projects & financing goes to which member countries in the Africa Union (AU). CONCLUSION: While this arrangement seems to offer a lot of promise for Africa as a continent, the $1bn project is only in its initiative stage and has not been fine-tuned to cater for specifics, thus no tacit agreement has been reached for any specific project in Nigeria. Reportera can exclusively report that this claim by NTA is FALSE & MISLEADING. Planned Strike Is An Abuse Of Privilege And Attempt To Blackmail Government – Presidency https://gatekeepersnews.com/2023/11/13/planned-strike-is-an-abuse-of-privilege-and-attempt-to-blackmail-government-presidency/ We Are Not Joining NLC’s Indefinite Strike – Aviation Workers https://gatekeepersnews.com/2023/11/14/nlcs-indefinite-strike-aviation-workers/ |
STATE HOUSE PRESS STATEMENT NLC/TUC STRIKE ACTION NOT IN NATIONAL INTEREST We notice with dismay the decision by the Nigerian Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress to call out workers to commence a strike action from midnight, despite a restraining order issued last week by Justice Benedict Backwash Kanyip of the National Industrial Court. This decision by the NLC and TUC other than being an ego tripping move is clearly unwarranted. It is an attempt to blackmail the government by the leadership of the NLC. We are still at a loss as to why the NLC and TUC decided to punish a whole country of over 200million people over a personal matter involving the NLC President, Mr. Joe Ajaero, whose error of judgment led to assault on him in Owerri while he was planning to incite the workers in Imo State into a needless strike. While the Federal government does not condone any form of violence and assault on any citizen of Nigeria regardless of his or her social and economic status, it is on record that the Inspector General of Police has ordered investigation into what happened to Mr. Ajaero while the Commissioner of Police in Imo State under whose watch the incident happened has been transferred out of the state. Calling out workers on a national strike over a personal issue of a labour leader despite a clear court order against any industrial action amounts to an abuse of privilege. Power at any level should never be used to settle personal scores. Rather, it should be used to promote collective progress and advance national interest. Our national economy and social activities should not suffer because of the personal interest of any labour leader. This flagrant disobedience to court order and lack of respect for the judiciary should not be what the organised Labour would champion. The labour movement has always been a champion of rule of law and respect for the judiciary. It is a sad irony that the current labour leaders have shown disdain and utter disregard for court order. We reiterate that this strike action is illegal, immoral, unjustifiable and irresponsible. What the strike notice issued Monday night after official hours suggests is it's designed for a sinister and hidden agenda to cause undue hardship and cause civil disturbance in our country. This is unacceptable. Bayo Onanuga Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy November 13, 2023 |

...Truth, in its majestic, but rather bitter, ugly starkness... Rawlings Treatment The politicians of Nigeria have gone completely mad. They are now totally beyond control. They have replaced the Nigerian Constitution with just one word: Impunity. Of course in this matter of impunity the politicians cross party lines rampantly like harlots-on-heat. There is no redemption in sight for the odious lot. These wanton Nigerian politicians need to be reminded of what happened in Ghana back in 1979. Then Flight Lieutenant Jerry John Rawlings decided to have a say in the power equation of Ghana by shooting to death three former Heads of State: Ignatius Acheampong, Akwasi Afrifa and Fred Akuffo. Nigerian politicians always lamely assert: “It can never happen here. Nigeria is not Ghana bla… bla… bla…” We only need to be reminded that there is always a first time. Democracy should not be reduced to blackmail as is being currently done in Nigeria. Things are going mightily wrong here, and the leaders appear not to notice. Hunger has reached unprecedented levels in the history of the country. In the Second Republic, the then Transport Minister Umaru Dikko infamously said that there was no hunger in Nigeria because the people had not started eating from the refuse dumps. Nobody in their right mind can deny that Nigerians are today scavenging for food from the refuse-heaps behind the homes of the rich and powerful. Cost of living is now out of the reach of the so-called average Nigerian. Little wonder most people now take refuge in betting and gambling, and generally wiling away time in the new-fangled churches that promise all kinds of miracles. The rulers ought to see that there exists in Nigeria today a separation of the government from the people. In one of his more famous poems, the late German playwright Bertolt Brecht made the suggestion that the government ought to dissolve the people and elect another “people” since the people had forfeited confidence in the government! It is this kind of dangerous pass that leads to bloody revolution. It appears as though the powers-that-be are not in the know that much of the world views Nigeria as a joke, a lost cause. Every report emanating from all cardinal points point to the fact that Nigeria is actually a failed state. Security which ought to be the first guarantee of the government is only observed in the breach. For every Nigerian, it is now OYO: “On Your Own!” Something needs to give now. Rawlings Treatment is strong medicine. When Acheampong was carrying on in Ghana with the largesse of incumbency he thought quite little of the danger that Rawlings represented. The initial mutiny of Rawlings was of course thwarted and he was thrown into prison, awaiting execution, only for his group to upturn the apple-cart which led to the public execution of Acheampong, Afrifa and Akuffo on charges of corruption. Things change and remain the same in Nigeria – or in fact get worse: moronic elections… hopeless budgets… endless fuel hikes… collapsing currency… diabolical darkness… forex abracadabra… presidential yachtism... judicial absurdities & incongruities etc. People are more or less left to embracing self-help. The over-confidence of our ruling politicians reminds me of a passage I read in the trashy fiction of my teenage years, to wit, James Hadley Chase in The Sucker Punch: “It is only when a guy gets so full of confidence in his ability that he is wide open for the sucker punch. I have seen it happen again and again in my racket. A guy commits murder, fakes an alibi and thinks he can cover up. Then wham! And he is flat on his back. Only he’s damn sight worse than a busted jaw.” Our caterwauling politicians are not unlike the ungainly crooks in the genre thrillers of James Hadley Chase. They will, like all the fictional characters, come to a tacky end in the archetypal mode that stresses: Crime does not pay. We need to be reminded that the democracy that Ghana is boasting of today came at a steep cost. Rawlings was the man who made change possible in Ghana. It is so saddening that Nigeria may end up needing the shock treatment like that of good old JJ Rawlings to get its bearing right. Nigerian leaders must tell themselves the home truth and thus avert the doom that the Rawlings treatment portends. This is not a warning – it is a revelation on this day that I remember the death of Rawlings via COVID three years ago! By Uzor Maxim Uzoratu. #C O P I E D |

Checks by SaharaReporters showed that the local council chairmen get allowances for 1. “motor and vehicles fuelling and maintenance; 2. entertainment; 3. newspapers and periodicals, 4. domestic staff, 5. personal assistant, 6. constituency and utilities.” 7. accommodation, 8. furniture, 9. duty tour (per night), 10. estacode (per night), 11. severance gratuity, 12. leave and 13. medicals. Regardless of tribal and ethno-religious sentiments, Nigerian leaders are just terrible, selfish, and self-centered. They tell the poor masses to tie their belts and be patient, while they don't even wear belts at all, and they are very impatient doing the wrong things. At this time when everything is wrong, ie economy, and security, they are busy thinking of how to make themselves comfortable in all spheres. The poor should sacrifice, while they are busy squandering our resources and justifying their expenditure. What a country! |
