NFF COMMUNICATIONS DEPARTMENT

NFF commiserates with Odegbami over loss of son

The Nigeria Football Federation has commiserated with former Nigeria captain, Dr. Olusegun Odegbami over the death on Friday last week of his son, Oluwagbeminiyi Omo Odegbami.

The legend himself made the sad news public on Wednesday morning when he announced the demise of the young man who breathed his last on Good Friday, 30th March 2024.

The General Secretary of Nigeria Football Federation, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, MON empathized with the 1980 AFCON winner: “The death of a son is perhaps the worst thing that can happen to any living parent. It is with a deep sense of sorrow that we commiserate with Dr. Olusegun Odegbami. This must be a very tough period for him.

“I remember the passion with which our former captain traversed the whole of Cote d’Ivoire covering the Africa Cup of Nations earlier in the year, and his palpable passion and fervour any time he had the opportunity to speak with the Super Eagles’ players. He believed strongly in the team and wanted it to win the trophy. I know how disappointed he was that we lost in the Final match.”

Dr. Sanusi disclosed that the NFF and the entire Nigeria Football fraternity have been praying for the repose of the soul of Oluwagbeminiyi Omo Odegbami since the unfortunate news broke on Wednesday.

“We are in grief. Dr. Odegbami is a great friend apart from being a legend of the Nigeria game and a former captain of Nigeria. Most of us marvel at his unflagging love and zest for the Nigeria game. We pray that God gives him the fortitude to pull through these difficult moments and also grant the departed young man eternal rest.”
Nairaland General › The Ripple Effects Of Electricity Tariff Increase by eddie7(op): 12:53pm On Apr 05, 2024
Copied

If Cadbury is in Band A and you increase their tariff by 300%, the price of Bournvita will go up and those in Band Z where there is no transformer will buy at the increased price.

If they buy at higher price, they are the ones paying the 300% increase, not the manufacturer who you want to tax.

If consumers don't have the purchasing power to buy at the new rate, Cadbury will close down.

If Cadbury close down and others too follow, unemployment will increase.

If unemployment increases, insecurity will take a jump.

If insecurity jumps, the money you thought you're making will be diverted to security and it won't be enough.

That is why US, UK, France, Germany and all developed economy support their factories with billions invested in power subsidy.

Nairaland General › Landmark Judgement On Results Cancellation By WAEC, NECO And Others by eddie7(op): 8:40am On Apr 04, 2024
*BREAKING: Landmark Judgement.*

*NOTICE TO ALL PARENTS AND STUDENTS WRITING WAEC, NECO & JAMB( UTME)*
__________________________
In a recent case of Agbakor Isaac Terkuye vs WAEC, the court said that WAEC has no power to cancel any subject of a student on the ground of examination malpractice. Cancellation of results without inviting the student to defend the alleged examination malpractice is a violation of his right to fair hearing..
See below the case.

Suit No. MHC/37/2023
Between:
AGBAKOR ISAAC TERKUVE
V
WEST AFRICAN EXAMINATIONS COUNCIL (WAEC)

The Benue State High Court has declared the cancellation of the scores/results of Agbakor, Isaac Terkuve (Plaintiff) in English Language and General Mathematics by WAEC as unwarranted and unlawful. Delivering judgment in Suit No. MHC/37/2023 between the Plaintiff and WAEC (Defendant) on 7th March, 2024, Hon Justice Kume also declared that the unilateral cancellation of the Plaintiff's scores/results in the said subjects by the Defendant without affording the Plaintiff the opportunity to defend himself of any allegation is an infringement of the Plaintiff's fundamental right to fair hearing.
Consequently, the court granted an order directing the Defendant to restore and release the Plaintiff's scores/results in English Language and General Mathematics forthwith and directed the Defendant to issue a certificate to the Plaintiff covering all nine subjects the Plaintiff registered and sat for in the examination.

The defence of the Defendant to the suit of the Plaintiff was that the results were cancelled for examination malpractice but the court held that examination malpractice is a criminal offence and only a court of competent jurisdiction (Federal HIGH Court) can declare that it has been committed by a candidate. The court also noted that although the Defendant was alleging exam malpractice, the scripts of the students who allegedly got involved in the act were not placed before the Court for evaluation.

The court however refused to award monetary damages in favour of the Plaintiff against the Defendant.

Reacting to the judgment, Dr. Emmanuel Zungwem Agbakor, father and counsel to the Plaintiff, thanked the Court for a well articulated, researched and delivered judgment.

This is a landmark decision that we as parents should know.

Politics › Die If You Like , The Dollar Will Keep Rising Against The Naira !!! An Opinion by eddie7(op): 2:56pm On Dec 10, 2023
Die if you like , the dollar will keep rising against the naira !!!
Oni Gbolabo

People in Government must read and heed these:

1. Appreciation and depreciation of currency is not related to race or color. It isn't who is the President either; be he Hausa ,Igbo or Yoruba. It is basically about the production of goods and services and the demand of your products in the world market. A confused country that produces almost next to nothing will never meet up. Policies only control your currency, not the value of other countries' currencies against yours.

2. A country where over 500 industries died within 30 years must be stupid to complain of depreciation of her currency. We keep killing local industries and expect policies to make it up, it's a joke sir. Don't use China as an example of depreciating currencies and strong economy. China produces and may attract more export with that strategy, unlike Nigeria that produces nothing.

3. A country where someone made away with $2+billion simply to be shared , is already a doomed one in terms of monetary policy and value. A country that produces a Dizeani and a Bafarawa , who spent billions to appease demons. Those money without economic value is an economic waste and poison injected into the system.

4. A country that favours importation over local production is doomed because it creates employment for other countries while sacking her own citizens. Some people are working in Michelin and Dunlop somewhere, yet we use the tyre here. Don't tell me about the principle of comparative advantage here; it's not applicable.

5. A country that exports all raw materials without adding value to them, is shameless to talk of depreciation of her currency, and will later re-import finished products of those materials, is the peak of daftness. A bag of cocoa will go for, like N1 million naira, but when it is processed, its worth is around N7million. Even farmers who produced the raw cocoa can't buy the end product....chocolate!!

6. A country that deliberately operates a banking system that gives loans to importers at the expense of local industries , is doomed and should say nothing about depreciation. Most of the loans are given to senators and representatives not industrialists.

7. A country that give loans in billions to the agric sector without monitoring & evaluation of such loan on how it gets to the real farmers, is a sham. A guy collected over N2 billion agric loan, he bought a jeep, built a nice house and used the rest to import processed pork. Meanwhile, local pork farmers are dying here. Is that not double tragedy, stressing forex and at the same time killing local industries.?

8. A country that spends more on few privileged politicians at the cost of the populace who are unemployed , should not talk about money depreciation. A country that keeps paying NNPC staff N10 billion as salaries every month, when a single drop of petroleum products was not processed ,should shut up about depreciation of currency. The only value-added product to the system is rising crime and criminality !!

9. A country where it is difficult for investors to register businesses because of the demand fir bribes by governent officials. Right from the airport to the hotel; to the ministers and to governors, investors will bribe. All these are part of cost of investment. A friend brought an investor on estate development just for the state Commissioner for Lands to demand 30% of the investment ! To see the governor in a state will cost you N2 million as bribe before you can be scheduled. This is a state as poor as anything.

10. A country where the cost of travelling for treatment abroad by govt officials will build world class hospitals, should not talk about naira against dollar parity. Money taken on that trip is part of stress on forex. Same as forex spent on pilgrimage. Let religion fanatics keep off me here. Without going to Mecca or Jerusalem, you can still make heaven. Yes! You waste forex on pilgrimage and later talk rubbish about forex. Pilgrims get dollars for N160 while industries get it for N350 ! Is that not crazy ?

11. A country where a
few people have access to federal reserves and those few can get loans, not because of what they can produce but the connection they have... Is that country not doomed already?

12. A country where we import what we produce because it's "cheaper" to do so, is doomed.

13. A country that has arable land and teeming idle youths but still complains of hunger, should not talk about currency depreciation. It's not only annoying but nauseating.

14. A country where free money flows can never control inflow and outflow of forex. Imagine someone who wants to hide his loot went to "Aboki ", the forex dealer , to buy dollars worth $50 million just to hide it in the basement of his house. That money has no economic value , yet it deprived those companies that needed it to import raw material. The same companies go to "Aboki " to buy the hard currency at exorbitant price.

15. A country where a strong bank owner can influence shares from within the Stock Exchange floor to inflate their shares' worth from N20 to N150, crash the same share to N30 and ready to buy it back at N28, all within a year. Forget it, the currency will never appreciate in such an economy.

16. A country where banks are involved in round-tripping and inflated cost to siphon money, is doomed. A company wants to import caterpillar worth $50,000. A bank made the forex for such import $550,000. Meanwhile no caterpillar was imported at last, yet the money faded into private accounts. Who strained the forex exchange rate in that case?

Let's think and reason well for the future of this country.

Nairaland General › Clothes Women Of Class Never Wear by eddie7(op): 6:40am On Dec 06, 2023
Clothes Women of Class Never Wear

As a general rule, professional women don’t expose their breasts, inner thighs and bellies. When you expose all your fundamentals, you take away our curiosity and lower your brand.

Elegant women don’t wear gym clothes outside the gym. It’s commoners who wear gym clothes while in airports, cafes, supermarkets. BTW, if you lead worship in gym clothes, few men can worship.

Women of class don’t wear t-shirts in the office or formal dinner – unless it’s corporately branded t-shirts. T-shirts are good for picnics and manual work like cleaning and gardening.

Serious women don’t wear ripped jeans to work. Leave those torn pants to teens. And don’t wear cropped tops. You’re not a belly-dancer. Who needs to see your belly in the streets? That’s cheap and high-street.

And tight-fitting bodycon dresses that hug the body and reveal all your curves, valleys and mountains don’t befit executive women. Bandaged dresses that shape your figure cheapen your image.

Lastly, iron your clothes. Well cultured women don’t wear creased clothes. God commands women to dress modestly (1 Tim 2:9). Your dress code communicates your class and values.

Politics › Peter Obi ...the Proverbial Ostrich. by eddie7(op): 5:39am On Dec 06, 2023
Peter Obi ...The Proverbial Ostrich.

.Now I know why Men like Prof Charles Soludo, are not excited with all the hype around Peter Obi.
When a man is inconsistent with his criticisms,or is always playing to the gallery for cheap political accolades, then integrity is at stake.

Peter Obi never misses any opportunity to draw attention to whatever flaws he notices in the APC,or in the Tinubu administration. And that is good for a working democracy.

But the question of integrity has always bogged him down, with the rot inside Abia (the poster boy of Labour Party) defacing his imagine as a crusader for justice and good governance.

Not quite long Peter Obi was in the news for hailing Otti's appointment of Great grandfathers as Transition Committee Chairmen of the various local governments. None of these is below 60., and he calls them Mayor's. It is worth noting that prior to their recent appointments, Alex Otti the LP governor had wielded monopoly power as both the governor and Sole Administrator of the entire17 local governments. But against public outcry,Obi extolled the aberrations of his Labor Party governor as a novel idea. His argument was that most of our young men and women cannot be entrusted with public funds. And with his endorsement, the unelected, senile " incorruptible" Mayor's have now taken office as cronies of Alex Otti. And with these Warrant Chiefs, Otti hopes to maintain his strangle grip on the resources of the various local governments in addition.

Also it is only in Abia state of Nigeria that we have the constitutional office of a "Majority Leader" being occupied by a member from the Minority Party.
Abia State House of Assembly has been turned to "Babasala Court" where Governor Otti does whatever he likes and Peter Obi has remained adamant in spite of the storm of adverse publicity which these aberrations have been drawing to the party he leads.

And as we speak, the Labour Party with 9 members in the House is holding on to the office of Speaker, Deputy Speaker, and also the most ridiculous office of the majority leader against the PDP's 12 man superior number.

With an IGR of about #3billion in three months, our Labour party governor has pocketed #2.8 billions within the same timeframe as his security vote, thereby making him the most corrupt, and most callous governor in Nigeria.
Nowhere else would you find a governor misappropriate close to 90% of the state's IGR as security vote alone in Nigeria.,...no where!

Peter Obi has never raised his voice to condemn the rapacious looting spree going on in Abia, the only Labour Party state under his care and control.

Add this to the mind boggling haemorrhage going on in the name of running the governor's office (#5.4 billions) in three months, and you will understand why we think Peter Obi is probably the proverbial ostrich when it comes to addressing ' the rot within'. Only recently, someone pointed out where the Abia state accountant general posted the figure of #20 millions as the amount our governor spent to make calls ( buy recharge cards) in just three months!

Perhaps the most indicting aspect of Peter Obi's deafening silence is the fate that has befallen Abia sacked civil servants, and the grim realities which those who survived are facing.
Not less than fifteen thousand(15,000) civil servants have been sacked in the past 6 months under a Labor Party government, and our dear Peter Obi is yet to give his opinion on this. It is to be noted here that a fellow governor was livid with anger and disgust at our governor's lack of human feelings. But our amiable Pete Obi turned elsewhere in search of faults.

One could go on adinfinitum to reel out the absurdities going on in Abia state's Labour Party and Peter Obi is the Leader.
We would continue to read meanings into the complicity called silence which the Labour Party leadership in the country is exhibiting about the shenanigans and arbitrariness that we see daily in Abia.

Peter Obi's silence on the gross mismanagement of Abia people and Abia resources by the Labour Party government of Alex Otti will continue to vitiate his efforts in trying to posture as an apostle of good governance.
There is always an inherent danger in the conduct of any public officer who secretly broods hypocrisy in his bosom.

ORTOM HAILS SENATE’S STAND ON LG COUNCILS

Immediate past Governor of Benue State, Chief Samuel Ortom commends the Senate for its resolution yesterday condemning the arbitrary dissolution of democratically elected local government councils in Benue and other states of the federation.

Chief Ortom describes the intervention of the Senate as a significant move which reflects a commitment to upholding democratic principles and ensuring the autonomy of local government administration across the country.

He says the unanimous resolution by the upper chamber of the National Assembly also represents a crucial step in safeguarding the democratic process at the grassroots level.

Chief Ortom says the Senate's decision is a proactive measure which also has the potency to deter any act that undermines the democratic rights of citizens and the principles of good governance.

By calling for the withholding of statutory allocations to non-democratically elected local government councils, the former Benue Governor states that the Senate has demonstrated a firm stance against dictatorial tendencies.

He particularly commends Senator Abba Moro for his proactive motion which drew urgent attention to the issue of the unconstitutionally sacked local government councils in Benue State.

*DO NOT BOW TO BABYLONIANS AND THE LATER DAY POLITICIANS*

_Shaibu is Right, Honorable and Comrade_

*SERIES: 24

Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt Hon Comrade Philip Shaibu, in the last seven years, has proven doubters wrong, taking-the-lead and a paradigm for a reconceptualized and recontextualized leadership in our society.

It is not about Edo State, it is the reality that a man has pledged himself to the leadership and service to the people. That man is Philip Shaibu

Cynics will concur that, in the eyes of Edo people, Philip Shaibu is the best and most experienced political actor to mount the saddle of leadership of Edo state come 2024. He is a prudent resources manager with no extravagant lifestyle and lavishing of taxpayers money on frivolities like we have experienced in recent times. This can be juxtaposed with practical governance model.

Has Edo people really felt the impact of Philip Shaibu, even when he is not the chief administrator of the present government and its governance? Yes, but needless relishing his achievements as a Deputy Governor here, but it is audible to the deaf and visible even to the blind, that within the last seven years as the Deputy Governor, there has been so much revolution on his delegated responsibilities, like the sports commission, health and the state IGR.

Edo people have said that, if it was a ‘mistake,’ electing Shaibu as the Deputy Governor of Edo State for two terms and still remain humble and loyal, then they wish to repeat that ‘mistake’ again and again, until it becomes a permanent mistake for him to become the Governor of Edo State in 2024. If Shaibu was a ‘god,’ the people are very much ready to worship it.

The market woman in Oba market, ekiosa market Egor market, Ekpoma market, Uromi Market, Jattu market, Ottuo market and Ibillo market. the artisan at Igun, the laborer in Afemai understands only a language, and that is the 'Mr Constituency Projects' for Edo Governor 2024 and for practical governance.

Edo people do not want later day politicians, who come to them in the days of elections, and run away from the people after elections.

The people are not focused on whether Shaibu will win the 2024 governorship election, but they're focused on where the practical governance will begins from. Will it be the complete renovations of all the government owned schools with full time teachers and form masters each to one classroom, or will it be the construction of flyovers across the major roads and busy junction of the various towns and Benin City or the connection of township roads to major roads in the state. This is their focus.

Shaibu is not a loud mouthed politician with vague promises, he allows his practical results of governance speaks for him.

Do not bow to Babylonians, If you don't trust in chariots and horses, then trust in the Lord who has long called Rt Hon Comrade Philip Shaibu to serve humanity in this dimension of Grace as we hope for a better and glorious Edo.
