SMAW ( Shielded Metal Arc Welding) aka “stick” welding and GTAW( Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) aka TIG aka argon ,are both lucrative trades. Once you’re good and able to demonstrate your ability to deposit sound welds that meet the requirements of a qualified WPS (Welding Procedure Specification) through a welder performance test, you’re good to go assuming you’re looking at working in the construction industry. Often times, contractors prefer combination welders( SMAW and GTAW for pipe welding.

Most definitely...In the construction industry for instance, day rate for some professionals is as high as 40,000-60,000. Such jobs do exist my dear!

Only three Oh No! I had cumulated twelve carry-overs throughout my 5years of engineering study. I was depressed, downcast and all. I knew I was going to spill over on the day of my internal defense having seen I failed a 500L first-semester course. I lost composure, but somehow I got it back. There and then, I resolved within me to ace my defense and my degree exams which I did.
I returned back to campus as a full-time spill over student, took my studies seriously though it was tough. I knew I had to rewrite my future else it will be difficult for me. I paid my dues and aced all my outstanding courses. Today, I am a successful mechanical quality engineer.
Whoever may be reading this, failure is not an option for suicide. Rather, be glad you failed and ensure not to repeat the same mistake.

P.S. Despite having twelve COs, I was on a 2.6CGPA, which goes to show I wasn't a dullard. I was only busy chasing what wasn't chasing me.LOL

Hello bro, I’m a father too and I feel your pains. First, you need to understand that you’ve prioritized work and all over family. Had it been the other way round,you would have known the genesis of this behavior. If you spend quality time with your son, trust me he will be free to tell you anything that goes on in your absence. I had similar experience when growing up, couldn’t tell anyone cause no one was there. In fact I didn’t get that love from my parents. Spend time with your family, at least you’ve noticed it now. I laugh out when Dangote Refinery is being mentioned. You want to deliver the Refinery by the first quarter of next year? It’s not possible. The project hasn’t even gotten to 10%. In fact , come 2022, the project would still not be completed. Rather, focus on delivering the fertilizer project, it’s possible you deliver that one next year.

OP...there’s nothing too difficult for God to do. With a sincere heart, I believe you can call upon God and He will deliver you. In my experience here, these guys prefer people with local experience and certifications. So they prefer inspectors certified by Weld Australia and AICIP for in-service applications. They also recognise CSWIP a lot more than AWS here.

All that being said, your certifications are the least of your problems. Biggest hurdle is local experience & limited opportunities for your role, but its not impossible.

Suitable locations are Western Australia & Queensland.

Thanks. Background is Mechanical Engineering. Work experience has been in metal fabrication as a Quality Assurance and control professional. My Quality Assurance experience is also very relevant to a lot of industries like manufacturing and the likes.

I honestly can't say the 5 page CV affected applications negatively. I know for a fact that most recruiters here use ATS (Applicant tracking System) software to review CVs of hundreds of applicants. This basically searches applicant's CVs for keywords relevant to the job descriptions for the roles advertised. So whether your CV has just 1 page or 5 pages, so long as the keywords match for the roles advertised, you should be shortlisted. I was very concerned I wasn't getting as many call backs as expected. But the general advice here even from people who have been in the industry for a while is to keep your CV concise.

Key advice from me is that all new applicants should not just apply indiscriminately for jobs. Your job applications must be targeted. Read job descriptions and tailor your CV to suit the requirements of the role so long as it is in your field and you have the experience. Some people even go as far as lifting the job description from the role advertised and just make slight modifications to their CV. This will most likely help you pass the ATS screening and increase your chances of getting an invitation for interview.

These are key areas prospective migrants and new arrivals should be paying attention to. I noticed a good number of people only want to see pictures and read about the beautiful stories about holidays and the road trips. My people, your first few months in this country can be quite tough ooo. Pay attention to the key details you need to navigate the job market here. Don't let reality hit you unprepared

NAS amongst all of them is an ideal confraternity. The horrendous killings and supremacy battles made them leave the university environment decades ago. Most top members of other frats do aspire to become seadogs later on because of the prestige. They have no time for stupid killings, its more on how their members can be of influence in the society.
