Primate Elijah Ayodele Unveils 94-Page Prophecy for 2025, Makes Striking Predictions About Nigeria’s Political and Economic Landscape The Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has released his much-anticipated compilation of divine revelations titled Divine Messages for the Year 2025 and Beyond. The comprehensive 94-page prophecy addresses critical developments expected in 2025, covering Nigeria's political dynamics, economic struggles, security challenges, and sectoral advancements. The compilation also provides insights into global events and outlines a spiritual call to action for Nigerians. Political Predictions Moves to Impeach the Speaker of the House of Representatives Primate Ayodele predicted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would make moves to impeach the Speaker of the House of Representatives in 2025. He warned of potential political instability and public discontent, urging Nigerians to pray against this outcome. Quoting his prophecy, Ayodele stated, “Let us rebuke the removal of the Speaker or Deputy Speaker of any State House of Assembly. Let us rebuke also what can cause the impeachment of the Speaker or the Deputy Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives.” Tinubu’s Second-Term Agenda Ayodele revealed that Tinubu’s government would focus on securing a second term, unveiling numerous strategies to ensure victory in the 2027 elections. He noted, “Tinubu’s government will develop five strategic formulas to fight the opposition. And if opposition are not desperate, they cannot unseat him.” He added, “I foresee that different opposition groups will come up to criticize Tinubu’s government, but the government will find a way to deal with them effectively. Tinubu will reduce opposition movement to nothing. Only a few that are very strong will be able to stand.”Seyi Tinubu and Lagos State Governorship Contrary to speculations, Ayodele dismissed any possibility of Seyi Tinubu becoming Lagos State governor in the near term. He cautioned about rising tensions and exposed secrets as the 2027 elections approach. He said, “Seyi Tinubu cannot be governor of Lagos State now. A lot will happen in 2027 and many secrets will be exposed. So much tension that will build towards 2027.”Rivers State Politics: Wike and Sim Fubara The prophecy highlighted a looming rift between Tinubu and former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike. Ayodele predicted, “I foresee that Tinubu will be forced to dump Wike as Wike will put in efforts in order to keep up. Wike and Tinubu will have disagreements. Wike’s sincere efforts will be truncated.” On the Rivers State gubernatorial election, Ayodele said, “If Wike did not strategize properly, I foresee that Sim Fubara will win the 2027 gubernatorial election in Rivers State. Except the election is rigged or it turns to violent but on a free and fair, Wike candidate will lose.”Atiku Abubakar and Governor Fintiri Primate Ayodele forewarned about an impending confrontation between Atiku Abubakar and Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State, stating, “Atiku and Governor Fintiri will have misunderstanding and disagreement that will lead to confrontation.”Economic Hardship and Civil Unrest Sluggish Economy and Poverty Ayodele forecasted significant economic hardship in 2025, stating, “The spirit of the Lord revealed to me that things will be difficult even as the economy will be sluggish. I foresee there will be deaths and political tension.” He further noted, “The spirit of the Lord says Nigeria needs to seek the face of God in 2025 because things will take a new format that will baffle the people. I foresee the government will be struggling, but the manifestations will be very confusing.”Public Discontent The growing economic hardship could lead to civil unrest, according to Ayodele: “The economic hardship will cause the citizens to throw sachet of pure water at some Honourables, government officials, and politicians. People will be attacking government convoys. Let the politicians be watchful.”Solutions for Poverty He urged the government to focus on local manufacturing and exportation to mitigate poverty: “The only way to fight this poverty is for the Nigerian government to encourage local manufacturers and exportation. This will go in a long way to put an end to poverty and hardship.”Call for Prayers Ayodele stressed the importance of spiritual intervention, urging Nigerians to undertake a seven-day fasting and prayer session at the beginning of 2025. He listed five critical areas for prayers: “The President must pray for protection upon his family.”Sectoral Predictions Energy, Power, and Oil & Gas Ayodele foresaw challenges in the energy and oil sectors, predicting setbacks that could affect Nigeria’s revenue. ICT and Education While highlighting advancements in these sectors, he cautioned about policy missteps that could hinder progress. Security and Terrorism The prophet warned of increased insecurity and terrorism in 2025, urging enhanced vigilance and counterterrorism measures. Traditional Institutions and Judiciary Ayodele also called for prayers for stability in traditional institutions and fairness within the judiciary. Bandits have reportedly abducted over 40 residents across communities in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State during a series of coordinated attacks over the past two weeks. Details of the Attacks A resident of Maru town, Alhaji Umar Abdullahi, disclosed to newsmen that the bandits have been conducting house-to-house raids, abducting individuals from their homes, including prominent community members. “Just last week, the bandits stormed our town and conducted house-to-house searches, starting from the Emir’s palace area, and kidnapped seven persons,” Abdullahi said.He attributed the rise in attacks to the activities of informants collaborating with the bandits. “Our major challenge is the bandits’ informants, as most of the kidnapped victims are prominent persons in the area,” he noted.Bandits' Camps Behind Bakalori Dam Abdullahi further revealed that the bandits are operating from camps located behind Bakalori Dam in the Maradun Local Government Area, an area now witnessing an influx of bandits relocating from other parts of the state. “We are in serious trouble because many bandits are relocating to the Maradun camp. There is an urgent need for authorities to dislodge them for peace to thrive,” he added.Appeal for Government Intervention Residents of Maru have called on the federal and Zamfara State governments to take immediate action by deploying more security forces to the area. Another resident, Usman Abubakar, described Maru Local Government Area as a “colony of banditry,” where criminals operate with impunity. “When the banditry began more than a decade ago, Dansadau, a district of Maru Local Government, was the epicenter. But now, the bandits have spread to all parts of the State, especially Maru Local Government Area,” Abubakar said.Recent Killings The situation in Maru LGA has been dire for months. Earlier this year, several police officers, including a Divisional Police Officer (DPO), were killed in an attack on Maru town. Efforts to obtain a reaction from the State Police Command on the current spate of abductions were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report. The ongoing banditry underscores the urgent need for enhanced security measures to protect residents and restore peace in Zamfara State. Source: The Bureau Newspaper

How can a Nigerian do this to her fellow. The saying that an average black man is possible might be true. |
tojahh:Woah! Do you mind sharing this interesting story? |
Odunayo Eniola Isaac, a young Nigerian woman from Osun State, South-West Nigeria, has issued a desperate plea for assistance after enduring nearly two years of horrific abuse in Iraq. Odunayo was reportedly a victim of human trafficking orchestrated by one Alhaja Yusuf Shakira, also known as Mama Uganda, who allegedly deceived her with promises of a better life abroad. Odunayo narrated her ordeal, marked by inhumane treatment, brutal physical torture, and relentless dehumanization at the hands of her employer, Saba Akram, and his wife. She implored Nigerian authorities to intervene immediately, fearing that her life is at risk if she remains in Iraq. "I am certain I will lose my life if I stay here any longer," Odunayo tearfully recounted through Hopes Haven Foundation, a Nigerian-based human rights advocacy organization.A Tragic Journey of Betrayal and Exploitation In February 2023, Odunayo left Nigeria after being lured by Alhaja Shakira and an Iraqi agency, Blend Warani, with the promise of a domestic job opportunity. However, upon arrival in Iraq, Odunayo was subjected to harrowing working conditions. Forced to work up to 20 hours daily with minimal sleep, her plight was further compounded by the severe physical abuse inflicted by her employers. Odunayo alleged that her employer’s wife once attempted to kill her by attacking her with an iron rod and hot water. She narrowly escaped to a nearby police station, where she has been detained since. She revealed how her passport, clothes, and phone were seized upon arrival, cutting off all communication with her family and isolating her from any help. Her wages for nearly two years of work have not been paid, and she has been accused falsely of attempting to escape. “I was locked inside the house where I worked, and my phone was seized. They beat me with iron rods constantly and made me work from 6 a.m. to 3 or 4 a.m. the following day. I hardly slept for more than three or four hours daily,” she lamented.Desperate Escape and Ongoing Trauma In July 2023, her employer falsely accused her of fleeing, prompting the Blend Warani agency to refund the employer and abandon her to her fate. Despite enduring unspeakable suffering, Odunayo managed to flee to a police station after narrowly surviving another attack. From the Iraqi immigration center, where she remains under unclear circumstances, Odunayo said, “I want to go back home to Nigeria, but my employer has my passport and belongings. For almost two years, I have not been paid anything.” Her family, concerned for her safety, contacted Hopes Haven Foundation in October 2023. The foundation’s investigation uncovered a disturbing video of Odunayo in distress, circulating on WhatsApp. The organization wrote to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) and the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Diaspora, Hon. Tochukwu Okere, for urgent intervention. Advocacy Efforts and Call for Justice Hopes Haven Foundation described Odunayo’s ordeal as a glaring example of human rights violations, labor exploitation, and trafficking. In its letters to NAPTIP and Hon. Okere, the foundation demanded swift action, including: Recovery of all wages owed to Odunayo and compensation for medical and psychological damages. Accountability for her employers for torture, false allegations, and labor law violations. Facilitation of Odunayo’s safe return to Nigeria and support for her reintegration. “We are deeply outraged that a Nigerian citizen, in pursuit of a livelihood, was subjected to such gross violations of human dignity and labor rights,” the letter stated. The foundation urged NAPTIP to ensure justice while highlighting the need for stronger protections for Nigerians seeking employment abroad. Responses from Authorities When SaharaReporters contacted Alhaja Shakira for clarification on Odunayo’s plight and her role in the trafficking operation, she claimed to be unwell due to high blood pressure and promised to provide documentation later. However, despite follow-up inquiries, she failed to respond further. The Nigerians in the Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) acknowledged the case as human trafficking, noting that NAPTIP and the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) are responsible for such matters. NiDCOM’s Head of Media Unit, Abdulrahman Balogun, emphasized the importance of Nigerians abroad belonging to organized groups, such as the Nigerians in Diaspora Organization (NIDO), to facilitate assistance in times of crisis. NAPTIP’s spokesperson, Vincent Adekoye, expressed unawareness of the matter but pledged to act after receiving details. He acknowledged a letter from Hopes Haven Foundation and promised to follow up. A Grim Reminder Odunayo’s ordeal underscores the perils faced by victims of human trafficking and the urgent need for stringent measures to protect vulnerable Nigerians. Her case remains a disturbing testament to the exploitation faced by many in search of better opportunities abroad. Hopes Haven Foundation and concerned authorities are rallying to ensure her safe return and justice for the abuses she suffered. Source: The Bureau Newspaper

UK Pledges £50 Million Aid to Syria Amid Diplomatic Contact with Rebel Group The United Kingdom has pledged £50 million in international aid to support Syrians during their time of need. This announcement was made by David Lammy, Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Affairs. According to Sky News, the UK government has also acknowledged engaging in "diplomatic contact" with the rebel group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), which ousted Bashar al-Assad's regime in parts of Syria. When asked about the UK’s interactions with HTS, Mr. Lammy confirmed the engagement, stating: “HTS remains a proscribed organisation, but we can have diplomatic contact, and so we do, as you would expect.”He emphasised that the UK’s primary goal is to support a transition to a more inclusive government in Syria while ensuring peace and stability. "We want to see a representative government, an inclusive government running the country," Mr. Lammy explained. The UK is also keen on securing chemical weapons stockpiles to prevent their use and minimising violence in the region. “To achieve these objectives, we are utilising all available diplomatic and intelligence-led channels to engage with HTS where necessary,” he added.About HTS Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, previously affiliated with al-Qaeda as the Nusra Front, is classified as a terrorist group by the UK, US, Russia, and Turkey. Its founder, Ahmad al-Sharaa, known as Abu Mohammed al-Jolani, severed ties with al-Qaeda in 2016 to project a more moderate stance. Similar US Contact with HTS In a related development, the US government also acknowledged diplomatic contact with HTS, a significant shift in its stance. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, in a recent statement, confirmed talks with the group, marking the first such public admission by the Biden administration. Despite its classification as a "foreign terrorist organisation" since 2018, the US justified the interaction as a measure to address ongoing instability in Syria. UK’s Aid Commitment The £50 million aid package shows the UK’s commitment to humanitarian support in Syria. It aims to alleviate the suffering of millions displaced and impacted by years of conflict. This financial pledge, combined with strategic diplomatic efforts, highlights the UK’s broader approach to fostering stability and promoting peace in the war-torn region. Source: The Bureau Newspaper

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has cautioned the Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala AbdulKadir Muhammad, against establishing a Christian chiefdom, known as Sayawa Chiefdom, with its proposed headquarters in Tafawa Balewa Township. In a statement released early Thursday, MURIC’s Executive Director, Prof. Ishaq Akintola, described the move as an act of injustice against the Muslim community in Tafawa Balewa, who he said have been victims of significant religious violence in the area. Akintola criticized the governor's declaration, stating that it lacked inclusivity and failed to consider the concerns of the Muslim population. “Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala AbdulKadir Muhammad, recently declared his intention to create the Sayawa Chiefdom with its headquarters in Tafawa Balewa Township,” Akintola said. “MURIC frowns upon this declaration as it implies that the governor has disregarded the advice of the Muslim community on this issue. Good governance requires extensive consultation before making such a critical decision. This declaration is provocative, parochial, and prebendal. It suffers from a desertification of inclusivity,” he added. MURIC called on Governor Muhammad to reconsider his decision and ensure that the interests of all religious groups in Bauchi State are fairly represented and respected. The Nigerien government has suspended the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) for three months, citing dissatisfaction with its coverage of a reported extremist attack that allegedly killed dozens of soldiers and civilians. Communications Minister Raliou Sidi Mohamed, in a directive to local radio stations that rebroadcast BBC content, accused the broadcaster of disseminating "false information aimed at destabilizing social calm and undermining the troops' morale." He ordered the immediate suspension of BBC programs across the country. BBC and RFI Report Alleged Attack The controversy arose after the BBC, through its Hausa-language service, reported that gunmen had killed over 90 Nigerien soldiers and 40 civilians near the border with Burkina Faso. Similarly, Radio France Internationale (RFI) described the incident as a "jihadi attack," echoing the reported death toll. Niger’s Government Denies the Incident Nigerien authorities denied that the attack occurred, issuing a statement through state television. The government condemned RFI's coverage, describing it as “incitement to genocide,” and announced plans to file a formal complaint against the French broadcaster. Background and Context Niger, like its neighbors Burkina Faso and Mali, has been battling a persistent insurgency from extremist groups linked to al-Qaida and the Islamic State for over a decade. Following military coups in these nations, French forces have been expelled, with the juntas increasingly turning to Russian mercenary groups for security assistance. The BBC has not issued any official comment on the suspension, which impacts its popular Hausa-language programs broadcast through local partners in Niger. The Centre for Human Rights and Social Justice (CHRSJ) has criticized the Oyo State Police Command for the alleged illegal arrest of its Executive Chairman, Comrade Adeniyi Alimi Sulaiman, along with 18 Ibadan indigenes. The individuals were reportedly detained for participating in a peaceful protest against plans by certain political officeholders in Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration to privatize the Ibadan Mechanical Village after their tenure in 2027. According to CHRSJ, Sulaiman was arrested on Tuesday morning while preparing for another nationwide protest against the Ekiti State Police Command’s detention of human rights activist and lawyer Dele Farotimi, who was accused of defamation. Sources claim Sulaiman was detained without prior notice, and the other protesters have been held since last Wednesday, exceeding the constitutionally permitted detention period of 48 hours without court arraignment. Illegal Detentions Criticized CHRSJ condemned the actions of the police, accusing the Oyo State Police Command of acting under the influence of political figures in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). The group alleged that orders to detain the protesters were issued by a close aide to Governor Makinde. The arrested individuals include Alhaji Olaniyi Dauda Oye, Mallam Abdulhai Raufu, Sodiq Olajire, and 15 others. CHRSJ asserts that the prolonged detention violates Sections 39 and 40 of the 1999 Constitution, which protect freedom of expression and assembly. Legal Perspectives and Planned Actions In a statement signed by CHRSJ Assistant Executive Secretary, Pastor Micheal Agaasi, the group highlighted constitutional precedents, including the case of IGP v. ANPP (2007), which affirmed that Nigerians do not require police permission to protest. The rights group expressed plans to petition the Inspector General of Police, the Police Service Commission, and various human rights organizations, including Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch. They described the police's actions as "barbaric, unconstitutional, and anti-democratic." Advocacy for Democracy CHRSJ emphasized that Comrade Sulaiman is a seasoned human rights activist who trained under the late legal luminary Chief Gani Fawehinmi. The group decried the use of police to suppress peaceful protests, calling for the immediate release of all detained individuals and urging authorities to respect democratic norms and uphold citizens' rights. The group concluded by calling on the Oyo State Police Command to promptly charge the detainees to court if necessary, instead of holding them incommunicado. Source: The Bureau Newspaper

A devastating fire broke out in the early hours of the morning, reducing a prominent rice mill in Ega, Idah Local Government Area of Kogi State, to ashes. The facility, jointly owned by Mr. Amodu and the late Alhaji Muhammed, was completely consumed by flames in an incident described by eyewitnesses as suspicious. Musa, a stakeholder in the rice milling company, recounted that the security guard on duty reported hearing an explosion resembling the sound of a matchstick igniting fuel. Moments later, the fire rapidly engulfed the entire rice mill. Due to the absence of electricity at the time, the guard was unable to identify any figures or potential culprits in the darkness. "This is a period when we experience peak sales because of the festive season," Musa lamented, emphasizing the economic impact of the loss. The rice mill, valued at approximately 200 million Naira, was a significant contributor to the local economy, especially during high-demand periods. Efforts by The Bureau Newspaper to reach the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Idah LGA for comments were unsuccessful at the time of reporting. The cause of the fire remains unclear, but authorities are urged to launch a thorough investigation to determine if foul play was involved and to prevent future incidents. The destruction of the rice mill represents a significant setback for the local community, particularly as the festive season approaches, when demand for rice typically soars. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ChheUvAE03o https://thebureau.com.ng/major-rice-mill-destroyed-in-fire-at-ega-idah-lga-kogi-state/

Reported by The Bureau Newspaper yesterday https://www.nairaland.com/8290953/kabul-suicide-bombing-kills-taliban |
Taliban Minister Khalil Ur-Rahman Haqqani Killed in Suicide Bombing Kabul, Afghanistan—A high-profile Taliban leader, Khalil Ur-Rahman Haqqani, was killed in a suicide bombing at his Kabul office on Wednesday. The attack also claimed the lives of three of his bodyguards, marking one of the most significant casualties for the Taliban since their return to power in 2021. Zabihullah Mujahed, the Taliban’s Chief Spokesman, described the incident as a "cowardly attack" by the "enemies of Islam," confirming Haqqani's death in a post on X (formerly Twitter). Haqqani was a key figure in the Haqqani Network, a militant group notorious for orchestrating some of the deadliest attacks on U.S. and allied forces in Afghanistan. Listed on the FBI’s most-wanted list with a $5 million bounty, Haqqani also played a crucial role in establishing the Taliban's post-2021 government after the U.S. withdrawal. Context and Possible Perpetrators While no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, the Islamic State Khorasan (IS-K), a rival faction to the Taliban, has been behind similar high-profile bombings in the past, including targeting Chinese diplomats and key Taliban officials. Haqqani was not only a minister but also the uncle of Sirajuddin Haqqani, the Taliban’s interior minister and leader of the Haqqani Network. The attack underscores ongoing tensions and challenges to Taliban authority, particularly from IS-K, which has escalated attacks targeting Taliban members and civilians. This incident raises concerns about the security landscape in Afghanistan, as internal rivalries and insurgencies continue to threaten stability under Taliban rule. Source: The Bureau Newspaper

The proposed tax reform bills, now a topic of intense national debate, represent a pivotal moment for Nigeria’s economic future. The Bureau Newspaper unequivocally endorses these reforms, seeing them as a bold step towards fiscal sustainability and economic renewal. However, we also recognize the concerns raised by citizens and regions, particularly in the northern states, and call for thoughtful implementation to ensure inclusivity and equity. Why Tax Reform Matters Nigeria’s overreliance on crude oil revenue has left its economy vulnerable to global market fluctuations. The proposed tax reforms aim to diversify revenue streams, increase the country’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), and enhance accountability in public finance. By expanding the tax net and introducing measures to curb evasion, the reforms promise a more stable and predictable fiscal framework, essential for funding critical infrastructure and social services. Furthermore, these reforms align with global best practices, ensuring Nigeria remains competitive in attracting foreign direct investment (FDI). A transparent and efficient tax system is a hallmark of economic stability and a magnet for international investors. Addressing Regional Concerns Understandably, northern Nigerians express fears about the potential impact of reduced allocations from the Federation Account, given their states’ lesser contributions to IGR compared to oil-producing regions. While these concerns are valid, we urge stakeholders in the North to see this as an opportunity rather than a threat. The region boasts vast arable land, making agriculture a natural cornerstone for economic growth. Leveraging green energy technologies can also transform the northern economy into a hub for renewable energy. Moreover, ensuring peace and stability will encourage investment and allow industries to flourish. We call on the Federal Government to support northern states with targeted initiatives that foster agricultural modernization, green energy projects, and industrialization. Providing incentives for private sector investment in these areas will ensure the North is not left behind in the new economic paradigm. Implementation: A Call for Collaboration The Bureau urges the Federal Government to address the fears of Nigerians by engaging in robust public sensitization and consultations. The reforms must be phased and considerate of regional disparities, with measures to shield vulnerable groups and businesses from undue hardship. Equally important is the immediate passage of the bills by the National Assembly. Delays risk prolonging the economic uncertainties that the reforms seek to resolve. We also reiterate our call for expedited action on establishing state police to create a secure environment conducive to economic activities. A Shared Responsibility Nation-building requires shared sacrifice. We must move beyond a dependency mindset and embrace a culture of contribution, where every Nigerian sees taxation as an investment in our collective future. We commend the Federal Government for initiating these reforms and call on all Nigerians to support this transformative journey. The road ahead may be challenging, but with unity, transparency, and purpose, these reforms can lay the foundation for a prosperous Nigeria. As a trusted voice, The Bureau Newspaper pledges to continue advocating for policies that uplift all Nigerians and strengthen our great nation. Source: The Bureau Newspaper |

A search yielded 216 rounds of 9mm live ammunition and 1 round of AK-47 ammunition, marking another significant victory in the battle against illegal arms trafficking. The Nigerian Senate has unanimously passed the second reading of a groundbreaking bill requiring the local processing of at least 30% of raw materials before they are exported. Sponsored by Senator Nwebonyi Peter (APC, Ebonyi North), the bill seeks to amend the Raw Materials Research and Development Council Act of 2022, with a focus on bolstering domestic production and protecting local industries. A Vision for Economic Transformation During the plenary session on Tuesday, Senator Nwebonyi passionately championed the bill, outlining its potential to revolutionize Nigeria’s economy. He highlighted that the bill’s passage would boost local manufacturing, create jobs, reduce the nation’s reliance on imports, and ease pressure on foreign exchange reserves. “This bill is a crucial step towards protecting our local manufacturers from foreign competition by regulating the importation of raw materials that can be processed within Nigeria,” Senator Nwebonyi said. “By mandating that at least 30% of raw materials be processed locally, we will significantly add value to our economy, particularly to our Naira. This will also drive innovation in our local industries, enhancing domestic production.”Concerns Raised by Senator Oyewumi While the bill garnered widespread support, Senator Lere Oyewumi, the Deputy Senate Minority Leader, voiced concerns about its practicality, particularly in sectors lacking the capacity for local processing. He cautioned that strict enforcement of the bill could have unintended consequences for farmers who rely on export markets. Senator Oyewumi warned that raw materials left unprocessed could result in financial losses for farmers, jeopardizing their livelihoods. Impact on Local Industries Despite the concerns, the bill’s supporters argue that local processing will foster economic self-sufficiency, reduce unemployment, and drive sustainable growth in Nigeria’s industrial sector. If passed into law, this bill could create a ripple effect across multiple industries, from agriculture to manufacturing, enhancing value-added products and reducing Nigeria’s dependence on foreign goods. Abuja – December 3, 2024 In a major policy shift, the National Pension Commission (PENCOM) has announced that low-income pensioners now have the option to withdraw their entire Retirement Savings Account (RSA) balances or continue receiving monthly pensions. This comes as the Minimum Pension Guarantee (MPG) awaits implementation. The directive, detailed in a memo dated November 27, 2024, and signed by A.M. Salem, Head of PENCOM’s Surveillance Department, aligns with recent amendments to Section 4.1 (g) of the regulations governing retirement benefits. Impact of Minimum Wage Increase The adjustment follows the national minimum wage increase to ₦70,000, signed into law by President Bola Tinubu on July 29, 2024. Previously, retirees could only access one-third of their RSA balances, but the revised regulation permits full withdrawals for pensioners whose savings cannot provide monthly or quarterly pensions of at least one-third of the new minimum wage. Key Provisions Pensioners with monthly pensions below ₦23,333.33—equivalent to one-third of the minimum wage—are eligible to withdraw their full RSA balances. They also retain the option to continue receiving pensions under the current scheme until the MPG is implemented. PENCOM’s directive to Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs) states: “PFAs should apply the new minimum wage when processing retirement benefits. Retirees whose pensions fall below the threshold can either withdraw their remaining RSA balances in full or continue with their current pension payments.” Withdrawal Requirements Retirees opting for full withdrawal must submit the following documents to PENCOM: 1. Consent Form: Signed confirmation indicating the retiree understands the MPG option and has opted for full withdrawal. 2. Application Letter: A handwritten, signed request for the withdrawal. 3. Payment Schedule Template: As specified in Appendix 1 of the directive. Immediate Effect The directive, which takes effect immediately, mandates Pension Fund Administrators and custodians to ensure strict compliance. Implications for Pensioners This development provides relief for low-income retirees, offering flexibility and immediate access to funds. However, the MPG’s pending implementation leaves questions about long-term financial security for pensioners without substantial savings. As stakeholders adjust to the new directive, PENCOM's policy underscores its commitment to aligning retirement benefits with the economic realities of Nigeria's evolving minimum wage structure.
