Speaking to The Bureau Newspaper, the Oyo State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Wasiu Olatunbosun, debunked the claims, insisting that the monarch is in good health and there is no cause for alarm.

"Yes, Olubadan is alive, hale, and hearty. I spoke with one of his sons, Prince Olaseke Owolabi Olakulehin, who represented the family at the coronation committee. There is absolutely no truth in the rumors being spread."

Palace Officials Dismiss Reports as Baseless

Similarly, the Chief Press Secretary to the Olubadan, Gbenga Ayoade, in an exclusive chat with The Bureau Newspaper, assured that the monarch remains strong and is carrying out his daily activities without any issues.

"By the time I left the palace around 8 p.m., everything was in order. There was no sign of any medical emergency. In fact, when I later checked in with the palace, I was informed that Baba is hale and hearty. The reports of his death are nothing but fake news."

Ayoade also refuted claims that the monarch had been flown out of Ibadan for medical attention, calling the speculation a figment of the imagination of rumor peddlers.

"Baba is still in Ibadan. He was not flown anywhere. In fact, he just finished eating amala. He is doing very fine. This is just another example of how false information spreads so quickly in Nigeria."

The Kano State Government has announced plans to sponsor 1,002 students for overseas studies, building on last year’s successful sponsorship of 1,001 students.

This was disclosed by the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, during a courtesy visit by the European Union Delegation ahead of the 2025 Study in Europe Fair in Kano.

"Babangida deliberately nullified the election results, arrested us, detained us, charged us, and paraded us as criminals," he said.

"Chief Fawehinmi told the judge that the real people who should be in the dock were those in the Villa, led by General Babangida, because they had overthrown a democratically elected government on December 31, 1983," he said.

"My Lord, the man calling himself my president has no fixed term of office. So, I couldn’t have been brought here," he argued.

"They couldn't go back to court, so we wouldn't turn the trial into a full-blown indictment of General Babangida and others. So, they simply ran away, and the case was struck out," he revealed.

"I have assembled a team of lawyers. They are reviewing the case because Babangida has now admitted that there was no basis for our prosecution. He now says Abiola won the election, which was the basis of our protest," Falana stated.

"Once you are talking about serious human rights abuses, the statute of limitation does not apply," Falana concluded.

“These committees have deviated from their mandate of easing traffic congestion and are now engaging in activities that sabotage port operations, disrupt the ease of doing business, and inflict huge financial losses on truckers, importers, and exporters,” the communiqué read.

“It is almost as if there is a deliberate effort to ground the haulage sector to a halt, despite its significant contributions to Nigeria’s GDP and Lagos State’s economy,” they stated.

“We are saying ENOUGH IS ENOUGH to the ignoble and exploitative activities of these committees. If our demands are not met, we will have no choice but to take drastic action to protect the interests of our members and the broader maritime transport sector,” the unions declared.

Rep. Kabiru Rurum, who represents the Rano/Kibiya/Bunkure Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has dismissed the suspension imposed on him by the Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), calling it “baseless” and a violation of court rulings.

In a statement to the press in Kano on Monday, Rurum vehemently rejected the suspension, insisting that he remains a valid member of the party. He argued that the suspension was issued in contempt of a court ruling that nullified the claims made against him and his colleagues. According to Rurum, the case involving his suspension is still pending in an Abia High Court, which has yet to deliver a verdict.

“I remain a member of NNPP,” Rurum declared. “The suspension is without merit and a violation of legal judgments. This action was taken in complete disregard for the court’s position.”

Rurum, who is among four National Assembly members suspended by the Kano NNPP chapter for alleged anti-party activities, also pointed out that he and other suspended members belong to a different faction within the party. The lawmaker accused the Kano NNPP leadership of operating illegitimately and disregarding the rule of law.

Rurum further accused the NNPP’s national leader, Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso, and other key party executives of deliberately snubbing the wedding of Sen. The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Yobe State has arrested 17 suspected vandals accused of destroying electrical power installations, telecommunications masts, and other critical infrastructure across the state.

Commander of the General’s Special Intelligence Squad, AS Dandaura, confirmed the arrests in Damaturu, the state capital, stating that they were made during a clearance operation that uncovered three warehouses used for storing stolen equipment.

According to Dandaura, a manhunt has been launched to track down the alleged mastermind of the syndicate, identified as Aliyu Ajakuta, who is also known as the "Chairman of the Scrap Dealers Association" in the area.

The suspects, aged between 17 and 25, were found in possession of various stolen materials, including telecom mast components, Base Transceiver Station (BTS) equipment, bags of armored cables, rail track sleepers, solar panels, and batteries.

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has called on the administration of President Bola Tinubu to intensify efforts to secure the release of Leah Sharibu, who has been held captive by Boko Haram insurgents for over seven years.

Sharibu was among the 110 schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram on February 19, 2018, from Government Girls Science and Technical School in Dapchi, Yobe State. While 104 girls were later released, she was reportedly held back for refusing to renounce her Christian faith.

The President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has appealed for calm following a heated dispute between Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and Senator Steve Karimi over a seating reassignment in the Red Chamber.

A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, permission to amend her suit challenging the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the final forfeiture of her seized assets.

Justice Inyang Ekwo approved the application after Alison-Madueke’s lawyer, Godwin Inyinbor, moved the motion, which the EFCC’s counsel, Divine Oguru, did not oppose.

The court directed Alison-Madueke to file and serve the amended processes within five days, while the EFCC was given 14 days from the date of service to respond. The case was adjourned until March 17 for further mention.

Alison-Madueke’s Claims

The former minister is challenging the EFCC’s public notice announcing the sale of her confiscated properties. In a motion filed on January 6, 2023, she argued that the forfeiture orders were issued without jurisdiction and should be annulled.

She claimed that she was denied a fair hearing in the proceedings that led to the orders, stating that she was neither served with charge sheets nor given the opportunity to defend herself.

“The various court orders issued in favor of the respondent and upon which the respondent issued the public notice were made in breach of my right to fair hearing as guaranteed by Section 36 (1) of the 1999 Constitution,” she stated.

She further alleged that the courts were misled into granting the forfeiture orders due to suppression and non-disclosure of material facts by the EFCC.

EFCC’s Response

In a counter-affidavit, EFCC operative Rufus Zaki urged the court to dismiss Alison-Madueke’s application.

Zaki, part of the team investigating corruption and money laundering allegations against her, stated that their findings confirmed her involvement in criminal activities.

The EFCC argued that the forfeiture proceedings followed due process, with public notices inviting interested parties to contest the forfeiture before final orders were made.

Zaki also stated that the seized properties have already been auctioned in line with court rulings and that Alison-Madueke was represented by a lawyer, Nnamdi Awa Kalu, during a forfeiture application.

Background on the Case

The EFCC, under its former chairman Abdulrasheed Bawa, announced plans to auction forfeited assets, including those linked to Alison-Madueke, starting from January 9, 2023.

Bawa previously revealed that the agency recovered $153 million and over 80 properties from her.

Alison-Madueke, who served as Petroleum Minister from 2010 to 2015 under President Goodluck Jonathan, has been living in the United Kingdom since leaving office.

“We are not just granting them freedom; we are offering them a future where their potential is fully realised through vocational training and access to starter packs,” Prof. Yilwatda stated.

The Federal Government has called on the United States to adhere to international conventions when repatriating Nigerian immigrants, ensuring their dignity and allowing them time to settle personal affairs before deportation.

Concerns Over Deportation of Nigerians

Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, made this appeal during a meeting with US Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Mills Jr., at her office in Abuja.

She expressed concerns over reports that 201 Nigerians were currently held in US immigration camps, with 85 already cleared for deportation.

"We urge the United States to respect international repatriation protocols and ensure that affected Nigerians have the opportunity to retrieve their assets and return with dignity," she stated.

Ambassador Odumegwu-Ojukwu further emphasized the importance of fair treatment, particularly for those who have not committed any criminal offenses.

Visa Policy and Nigerian Students in the US

The minister also urged the US government to reconsider any plans to suspend the Drop Box Visa System, which many Nigerians rely on for easy visa renewal. She requested an official statement to clarify the US position.
