When I said South Africa needs help. . .I only said that because I beleive every black south African has to live a life they deserved. He was saying he was there to help us know English but he comes around and insult us. After he was done talking, students were really mad that they felt like beating him was a good idea. If you had heard what he said, you won't be able to control yourself and in Ethiopia, whether you are blue skinned or yellow. . . . They will beat you if they want you. They don't care

Some Ethiopians don't like it when being helped by whites. . . I think they will feel like they are colonized. They don't want to loose to white people too

Some white people think they will be treated differently thinking Ethiopia is like other African country but they will be offended. They are forced to pay double price on some stuffs just because they are white. Ethiopians don't do that on other blacks. Specially if you are Italian, get ready to get more attacked.

Kenya is mostly to blame because we basically abandoned the north of kenya - there was no tarmac road - and now Moyale - Nairobi is starting to open - informal trade hopefully will flourish - and it should be possible to have someone taking a bus from Nairobi to Adis - and that slowly build relationship btw countries.

My friend once visited S.A. She saw a handsome white kid then she tried to play with him. She thought South Africa was like ET. But the parents of the kid took him from her and looked at her as evil just because she was black. The black and white community in South Africa lives separately. It is easily identified.

Who gave the whites the chance to act like this in a place where they don't belong? If they had acted like this here, I swear Ethiopians will whip their asses and throw them to their country and no one would stop them

Kenya has ties with Eastern DRC - the swahili speaking part - It has nothing to do with French Speaking Kinshasa. I think new guy is just trying to build his own credibility. Everyone know Kabila rigged him in after his proxy was declared dead on arrival.

But yes Kenya companies are starting to make serious push into Congo. It was mainly informal trades but Kenya MNC are moving in. Equity Bank already hit a jackpot.

Now I think corporate are starting to realize DRC could be super-profitable.

Esp because Ethiopia will never happen. Ethiopia won't be opening their private sector anytime soon.

So yes I'd like to see us taking advantage of this new guy to invest more into DRC. Hopefully that can become the launchpad into french speaking Africa - DRC Congo, Congo and Cameroon - and then we get to Nigeria - and teach them business.

Ethiopia and Kenya are not benefiting compared to how the countries are related. The relation between the two has lasted for a very long time. But the output isn't that good

I can't blame them. Even South African do not want to be called Africans. Nobody can really be proud of Africa now. We need to pull ourselves out of the rat hole and maybe our great grand kids can finally be proud of be black skinned.

I think every African government has to check projects that are being planned. Many of the Chinnesse apartments being made in ET are constructed near river so that sewage disposal could be easily removed polluting the rivers. I am not sure about this real estate though

Thanks for being innocent. Most Ethiopean are great people. I think color thing will disappear when being African will be something to be proud of everywhere. That mean Nigerians have to make the effort as largest black nation not to appear as monkeys in zoo - and but functional thinking humanbeing.

This is why we must continue to berate the Nigerians to be better people.

There is a problem both on the Ethiopian side and other African side. The way how other Africans sometimes behave makes some Ethiopians isolated. Entertainment in Africa isn't doing well. Many west African artists sing for money and disrespect ladies treating them inappropriate. Ethiopians don't want to be named the same with people who acts like this. And on the Ethiopian side, Ethiopians have to forever admit they are Africans not only when they found Africa important. The media itself is responsible for this. Whenever there is Africa union summit, we hear songs for Africa on the radio. After it is done, the whole Africa is forgotten.

I believe there is a reason for this. The disconnection between Ethiopians and other Africans is for a purpose.


But one thing that always surprise me. . . Any Ethiopian who truly knows Ethiopian history fights for panafricanism. The ones who think they know Ethiopia are the ones mistaken. We can take Ejigayehu Shibabaw (Gigi) and Teddy Afro as Ethiopian Artists who sing and shout for black people and Africa as a whole.

The Ethiopia/Africa issue is a real problem. I never thought there would be Ethiopians who keep ignoring their African identity. Even yesterday I was having a conversation with my best friends and one of her said ' I am Ethiopian not like other African. We Ethiopians are not the same with others. . .we are different.'

I was so shocked that I lived with a person who think like this for more than 6 years. She don't like dark skinned people and that is really bad.

Many people in Ethiopia mistaken me for Indian mix but I don't feel good about that. I feel very happy when some also say that I have true Ethiopian look. I love being African and I love my continent. But now other Africans use same glass on all Ethiopians and they push some of us thinking we are rasict. Yes, i have been insulted many times for the thing i have not done. This is bad.




Note this- All Ethiopians aren't racist but they feel different because of history, culture and belief. They kept calling themselves habesha and even ignore Southern Ethiopians. It is very dissapointing. Some Ethiopians start shouting 'Africa' when they are in need. They keep shouting for Gambelas when they want the land of Gambela people. I just don't know how this have to be changed. But I know I am trying to do my part

I just read on the BBC that you had a no traffic/vehicle day today. How was it?

As far as I know, we only have vehicle free day on Sundays. There is Africa union meeting / summit these days and some places of Addis are closed for vehicle. Probably, that is why.

They do it every year now that when we hear Africa union summit we obviously know some places will be closed for security purpose. I don't usually use the roads around Africa union building so I have never had that type of experience

Unfortunately English is the language of science and business. I think countries need to be pragmatic. You can have amharic - you'll neve really lose your mother tongue - but I think kids need to be taught in English - unless you have the resources to translate all the books and materials - it's a huge investment that Ethiopia cannot afford.

Anyway I think Ethiopia has a lot of stuff to work on - their quality of education is last on my list. They have huge well educated diaspora they can always tap into - by encouraging them to come back. That would mean stopping political repression.

South Africans are guys who need to worry about such first world problems as the quality of education they are giving their kids. Ethiopia should really continue it focus on compulsory basic free education for everyone.

I have a reason when I mention the 4th and 6th grade thing. The new generation kids are taking a bad lesson and they are buying unessecary stuffs from pharmacies. For real! People are now shouting on TV to stop such kind of teaching. Our PM him self admits that the curriculum isn't right.

Civics and Ethical education is also a serious subject but no one takes it serious here. However brilliant or intelligent the students are, if we don't work on Civics, we will produce people like Meles Zenawi (who is smart but enemy of his own country).

We do have well educated diaspora who are eager to work without payment in here. Do you know that ET diaspora are funding to help people in ET?

They give $1 for one day. All the money is collected from Diasporas. They will make millions

Sound like Tanzania. What are the outcomes of such a confused system. I also know each region are now trying to promote their own local language as they dump amharic. So a Somali from Ogaden - would probably be explained to in Somali - and then somehow answer the questions in English.These people are somehow expected to work one day in same office in Addis.

Without doubt such a system can only produce Tanzania like outputs. Very poor education quality.

You can see how English is affecting many Ethiopians. We are not catching up with the outside world but more than that, the thing we are learning scares me.

Our curriculum have to be revised. We learned about pregnancy in 4th grade and about abortion in 6th grade. What type of citizen is this country producing spoiling kids? They teach us all about the achievement of whites and make us feel inferior. They teach us physics and chemistry with no experiment, then how will we apply it? The books are in our brain but we don't know how to work on them.

The country have produced citizens who don't know how to read about the medicine they are ordered to use. What is this?

The Ethiopian community will think you are brilliant when you speak English. There are some people here who get easily tricked with language. Let's stop the English then learn what is really important to us or let's keep working on our English. . . how and why are we missing both?
