hey now, why are you grouping all ghanaian schools together? Even if those people you interacted with are from this particular school, they could below average. Afterall when i entered camp there was a girl from covenant that kept making silly mistakes in her forms, yet i won't say covenant is a bad institution.

The truth is i've seen both ghanaian institutions and nigerian institutions and Nigeria cannot compare when you factor in the use of ICT, research, etc. Note that I am in no way saying ghanaian students are better, just the institutions.

Objectives of the Webometrics Ranking of World' s Universities      The original aim of the Ranking was to  promote Web publication. Supporting Open  Access initiatives, electronic access to scientific  publications and to other academic material are  our primary targets. However web indicators are very useful for ranking purposes too as they are  not based on number of visits or page design but  on the global performance and visibility of the  universities.      As other rankings focused only on a few  relevant aspects, specially research results, web  indicators based ranking reflects better the  whole picture, as many other activities of  professors and researchers are showed by their  web presence.      The Web covers not only  only formal (e- journals, repositories) but also informal scholarly communication. Web publication is cheaper,  maintaining the high standards of quality of peer review processes. It could also reach much larger  potential audiences, offering access  to scientific  knowledge to researchers and institutions  located in developing countries and also to third  parties (economic, industrial, political or cultural  stakeholders) in their own community.      The Webometrics ranking has a larger  coverage than other similar rankings (see table  below). No Nigerian varsity in Africa's top 10  Education      Thursday, August 4, 2011 By Lawani Mikairu The falling standard of education in Nigeria was  again brought to the fore weekend when in a  survey published by Webometrics , the ranking  Web of World Universities, ranking 2,500   universities surveyed in Africa, no Nigerian  University made the Top 10  Africa Universities. South African-based institutions topped the  continental ranking with University of Cape  Town taking the lead. This is closely followed by  the University of Pretoria, South Africa in second position, next comes Stellenbosch University also in South. Africa in third position. The University of  Witwatersrand, South Africa comes fourth,while  University of Kwazulu Natal,South Africa is fifth.  The sixth position is occupied by Rhodes  University,South Africa. In seventh position is  University of the Western Cape, South Africa. South-Africa dominance is challenged by the  Cairo University in Egypt which is eight in  ranking. This is closely followed by University of  South Africa ,South Africa in nineth position, and  Makerere University, Uganda in tenth position. Of interest is Makerere University which has  maintained its 10 th position among Africa's best  ranked 100  universities, according to the  Webometrics survey. It is the only Ugandan  university listed in the survey. In the survey,  published on Friday, the university improved in  world ranking by 146  positions from 1,402 th in  February to 1,256 th. Other universities in the region are University of Khartoum-Sudan (18 th), University of Nairobi- Kenya (26 th), University of Dar er Salam - Tanzania (38 th), Kenyatta University (58 th) and  National University of Rwanda at 78 th.The  rankings, are based on web publications, the  visibility of a university on the Internet, the  volume of its publications, and the general  impact of the information published on its web  pages. Also a ranking by Turkey-based Informatics  Institute of the Middle East Technical University,  put the 89 -year-old Makerere University on the  8th position out of 2,500  universities surveyed in Africa in 2010 .

started its plan to establish
two new commercial palm
plantations in the state with
the assistance of Malaysian
experts. The state Governor, Owelle
Rochas Anayo Okorocha made
this known at a breakfast
meeting with All Progressive
Grand Alliance (APGA) leaders
at the government house, Owerri. Governor Okorocha, who
recounted the efforts his
administration had made since
inception to take the state to
an enviable height, said Imo
would return to a palm produce state, with additional
new palm plantation for
commercial purpose. He recalled that Malaysia
developed its country
through palm seedling
collected from Nigeria,
regretting that Nigeria was
still at elementary stage of palm produce and stressed on
the need to harness some of
the natural mineral resources
the state were endowed
with. He, therefore, called on the
leaders of APGA and other
leaders in the state to
contribute their own quota
by creating avenue for job
opportunities and announced that the state owned oil palm
plantation, Adapalm was now
Imo Palm Plantation.

A Nigerian General, Major
General Moses Bisong Obi, has
been appointed the new Force
Commander of the United
Nations Mission in Sudan
(UNMIS). General Obi succeeds Major General Paban Jung
Thapa,
a Nepalese who has completed
his tour of duty in the Mission.
He will be inducted into the
mission on 22 May, 2010. Until his appointment, Major
General Obi was the Chief of
Training and Operations,
Army
(CTOP‘A’) at the Army
Headquarters in Abuja. He had also served as the General
Officer
Commanding (GOC), 1 Division,
Nigerian Army.
General Obi who hails from
Oku-Bushuyu in Boki Local Government Area of Cross
River
State, attended the Nigerian
Military School, Zaria after
which
he proceeded to the Nigerian Defence Academy. The General
has since his commission into
the Nigerian Army, also
attended
several military and civil
courses locally and abroad. He has also
held several command, staff
and
instructional appointments at
various levels.
General Obi is a veteran of many military operations and
has
participated in the United
Nations Interim Force in
Lebanon
(UNIFIL) and ECOWAS Monitoring
Group (ECOMOG) operations in
Liberia and Sierra Leone, and
the
multinational operation in the
Lake Chad Area. General Obi is a 2004
recipient of the National
Honours
Award of the Officer of the
Order
of Niger (OON), for professional
Excellence. He also has the
Cross
River State Medal of Honour.

actually lagos is an economic power house, from statistic i gathered from work lagos accounts for 25 percent of the income of nepa and about 60 percent of the fuel consumed in nigeria is consumed in lagos, i dont have the figure for telecommunications but my guess is that lagos accounts for much of telecom revenue.

However the status of lagos is very shaky because the giants of the south south is rising.
The south south accounts for 5 grade a airports in nigeria while south west accounts for 1 and the south east accounts for 2 , the north has just 5. In terms of capital expenditure the 4 south south excluding edo and cross river accounts for the bulk of more than 40 percent of the capital expenditure with heavy investments in ipp and highways.

From my thinking ,lagos was the center of excellence and the centre is gradually shifting towards the niger delta just like japan has lost its place to china, lagos is gradually loosing its place to niger delta.

when my husband

stage started one-and-a-half
years ago. Or put more
succinctly, we began the
search for her and the family
about 20 months ago. And after a string of failures,
occasioned by blunt leads, we
managed to get her two
months later. Even the
meeting had a predetermined
condition: no interview, no photographs. We accepted, but wondered
why such a moving book like
the widow of Major Gideon
Orkar, the brilliant and brave
Benue man that led an
insurrection against the military administration of
General Ibrahim Babangida on
Sunday, April 22, 1990, would
want to remain anonymous.
Perpetually ‘underground’. Since that revolt was quelled,
and her man was executed
alongside 67 others, neither
her nor the children had
granted any media interview.
Very few Nigerians either knew them or could link
them with the famous Major.
Such things, it would seem,
were the least of their
worries. For a long time, “You know
I’m still in the service” was
the automatic answer that
Mrs. Bunmi Orkar, the Chief
Nursing Officer of the Nigerian
Army Intelligence School, Apapa, Lagos, gave each time
I renewed my request for an
interview. She never shifted
ground until March, last year,
when she suddenly agreed to
give this reporter an exclusive interview to commemorate
the 20th anniversary of her
husband’s death. But I
bungled it. I suddenly
disappeared from the radar.
As if that was not enough, and quite uncharacteristically,
I failed to call her to apologise
for the disappointment, and
explain why I missed the
opportunity. You can then imagine her
indignation when, sometime
in April, this year, I phoned
her to say ‘Hello ma; long
time, no see’. She wasted no
time in giving me a piece of her mind. And I had to beg
and beg until she told me that
my sins had been forgiven
and I should go and sin no
more. Then, late this May, I got an
SMS message from Mrs. Orkar,
announcing the impending
wedding of Tavershima
Olayinka Orkar, her second
son, to Adebola Rachael Agboola, his heartthrob, on
Saturday, July 9, 2011, at The
Glad Tidings Baptist Church,
Ogbomosho, Oyo State. I
quickly replied that I would
attend the epoch-making event. I fulfilled that promise
alongside Biodun Adeyewa,
our ace photojournalist. It was really a glorious day
for the Orkar Family as
Nigerians from all walks of
life trooped to the ancient
town to witness the glorious
occasion. After the solemnization of the
matrimony, guests were
feted to a feast at the Federal
Government College. After the event, I sat down
with Mrs. Bunmi Orkar for the
long-awaited interview. She
grudgingly agreed, but with a
caveat: “You must let me see
what you are publishing because I do not want to be
embarrassed or embarrass
anybody. You know I’m still
in service.” With that, I set my tape
rolling. And for the next one
hour, twenty minutes, the
woman would answer
virtually all the questions that
I posted to her. She was close to tears as she
recalled those sorrowful days
when Major Orkar, the love of
her life was held in captivity,
prior to his trial and eventual
execution. Despite the overwhelming joy she had
felt prior to the interview, the
mother of six seemed grief-
stricken as she recalled how
she converted her only car, a
Peugeot 504 saloon car, to a taxi cab, ferrying passengers
from virtually every part of
Lagos. Even so, that could hardly
meet her needs, especially her
children’s school fees. So, she
decided to sell half of
everything that came in pairs
in her household. Still, she was forced to withdraw her
children from school at some
point. But she never gave up.
She stepped up the struggle
and persevered until God
wiped away all her tears, and all her children turned out
well. Even, Ayilla, her last son,
who was just six months old
when their father died, is now
a graduate. “It’s God,” Mrs. Bunmi Orkar,
56, says for the umpteenth
time, pointing to the sky as
she reminisces over those
days of sorrow. She now
brims with joy, and ethereal peace. Please read on: Excerpts. I can see that you are very
excited. Oh yes, I feel great. Since my
husband’s death (21 years
ago), this is the first major
party I will hold; and thank
God for His grace, I don’t think
that it could be better if he were alive. Thank God for the
support of the members of
the family, my family, his
family, my friends, his friends,
everybody. They really
supported us.
