On the other hand ... let's bear in mind our education system is based on the British system which in my view is geared to produce Jack of all trades ...master of none .... while the American system is geared to produce masters. One under the British system has general knowledge ... an American doesn't.... but what he knows ... he knows very well. Many of these celebrities ... ask them to write an essay on any topic.... it will be torture. We see doctors leave Nigeria ... some go to the UK .. some go to the USA ... which ones be making headlines for breaking new grounds?.. for discoveries? Our systems are different. You're an illiterate in Nigeria .. you're doomed. You're an illiterate in America... you can be successful in life Don't get me wrong ... not suggesting it is better to be illiterate than to be literate.

You know people get legs amputated because they suffer diabetes? Surviving the amputation is a hazard avoidable from recognizing the symptoms early. All it takes is avoidance of some foodstuff, exercising frequently and rationing meals. Which is the easier option?

Most of our people who Japa to those countries only end up at 21st century slaves who work so hard but get HIGHLY TAXED. Thinking deeper, the problem is he didn’t continue checkups. He likely thought one gets checked then returns whenever problems arise. He didn’t follow the routine of checkups yearly. Low blood sugar can’t kill someone in under a month. Did he not eat for the whole period? It was likely a gradual process. Either that or this story is made up “for cruise.”

At least he put effort into the medical advice. Check my comments for where I mentioned of a friend who avoided fatty liver syndrome. He would’ve dropped dead one morning and everyone would blame village people over reality.

I guess I be my papa pikin afteral, refused any medical checkup throughout his life, according to him, He's sure if you check him up you would surely find close to 200 (That's the exact number he always used ) issues. He eventually passed after a brief illness at the age of 93

Is it not when you have the money to go for the check up that you go for it? See me now...I know a lot of issues are wrong with my body...terrible issues...but can I go for check up? No! Na money matter. May God just heal me.

A lot of people are going through a lot in this country. Government should prioritize health over this craze for acquiring wealth at all cost. How I wish going to the hospital is free for certain individuals - determined by certain criteria.

Checkup are good but to live long is primarily determined in the spiritual realm. Don't believe me but you can decide when to go in the realm of the spirit. Jesus is the best option for long life, other parts come with prices.

Even in developed countries people rarely go for check up until their illnesses start showing signs. No wonder many die in their room for weeks or months before neighbors or family members finally find out.

I hate that this is the constant excuse in this forum. If you people think poverty is hard, try failing health while at it. You will realize quick that fitness is the cheaper option. I guess many subconsciously want to commit suicide but hope that nature does it for them instead.

Truly Medical checkup is very good to do periodically but maybe you don't know that majority of people is battling with survival problems. Especially money and food.

So the primary problem in a poverty setting like ours is to eat and survive, then look for remedies or treatment to whatever health issues as they come up.

Only people wey don chop and have money dey check far in the front. To many na live today first, then face whatever comes tomorrow.

Let the Government please help us. Make tests and checkups free even if treatment cost money. Sapa too much. E no easy.

If told that your heart is failing, won’t you start brisk walking to correct the situation? I had a friend who was told he was suffering from fatty liver syndrome. My guy threw away all his bottles of liquor, started walking daily then signed up for a gym before the month ended. Today, he is at a healthy weight, routinely exercises and is happily married. If he kept the mindset of “the worry kills,” he would’ve been six feet underground with many stories of “he could’ve been xyz if not for medical issues.”

In Nigeria, those are the major issues. Diabetes, common from our high carbohydrate diet, goes straight for those before any other organs. A full medical checkup is recommended. Those two organs require constant supervision because people over twenty-five years of age always know of failing kidney cases.
