Politics / Seven Nigerian Quacks Arrested by EFCC1(m): 4:02pm On Feb 10, 2011
Seven bogus doctors from Nigeria have been arrested at hospitals and consulting rooms in five provinces, the Hawks say.

Bogus doctors nabbed

The seven were arrested in Hawks’ raids in Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Gauteng, Eastern Cape and Western Cape, spokesman McIntosh Polela said in a statement.

“One of the raids took place at Matlala hospital in Limpopo, where a qualified doctor was arrested. This doctor also owns three practices where he allegedly employs bogus doctors who make use of his name and practice number,” Polela said.

“Another qualified doctor was arrested in Pretoria. He also owns three practices in which he too employs bogus doctors using his name and practice number,” he said.

A man posing as a doctor was arrested at B J Vorster Hospital in the Eastern Cape. He did not have qualifications.

“The Hawks are baffled as to how he managed to secure himself a job at a government hospital,” said Polela.

“We can only speculate how many people have entrusted their lives to these people believing that they were consulting doctors when in actual fact they are consulting quacks.”

The seven would face charges of corruption, fraud, indecent assault and impersonating doctors.

I had a relative working with a Nigerian doctor who was employed in a Government hospital even though his two degree certificates from two Universities were ten years apart and were signed by the same Vice Chancellor. And it even appeared that the same pen was used each time. But no checks were made with the Nigerian Universities in question to confirm these qualifications. In another case a Zimbabwean pharmacist had a degree from the University of Bulawayo when there was no such University. I think the deployed HR cadres whose duty it Report Abuse

First time in my engagement on this forum, I have to agree with you, and it's not easy for me because I regard you as one of the A-grade fools on this forum. But you are right on this one.

South Africans open their wallets and in most cases, their legs, to legalize the crooks that are roaming around in our streets, and then complain about the same people whom they legalized as authentic South Africans. They are the ones that are selling fake MBChb's and again register them at the HPCSA as qualified doctors.

Public servants are to blame for all the foreigners that are invading every open space that's available in SA. We are sometimes disgusting as a nation, we should be ashamed of ourselves for lack of pride and decency.

We're already sold out to the foreigners. This is only a tiny minority of these bogus doctors. Not only Nigerians but Pakistanis as well.
The hawks will find the real culprits, who had these doctors employed in the health dept
These foreigners(Nigerians and Pakistanis) are a menace to SA as they're only up to criminal activities.

Where's the news?
News is defined as a change in the state of things, something out of the ordinary, and the like.

A headline like "Nigerians arrested", if it was news, would be about something like for doing legitimate charity work.

But for Nigerians committing a crime, its just not news

Gbogbo’s men infiltrate 16th AU Summit threaten to kill Nigerians
News Feb 2, 2011

By Daniel Idonor
ANKARA, TURKEY – DISGUISED as Journalists, President Laurent Gbagbo’s men who impersonated other nationals successfully infiltrated the just concluded 16th African Union Summit.

They tried to convince delegates and journalists at the summit that Gbagbo was the real winner while Alassane Ouattara was not just usurper but a rebel for the past two decades.

The African Union had blocked both Gbagbo and Ouattara’s men from taking part in the summit more so since the country has been suspended until when the crisis is resolved.

One of them, Richard Assamoa Ossey, Conseiller Technique Presse and Communication, Cabinet Du President, Republique de Cote D’Ivoire, approached Nigerian journalists alongside his female colleagues with documents, lunching into history of Ouattara’s rebellion which has resulted in the rape and killings of women and children in the past and why he couldn’t have been the winner of November 2010 elections.

After series of questions puncturing his points, Ossey got angry and warned Nigerians to stay clear of Ivorien affairs saying “you think because you send ECOMOG to other countries to interfere you can succeed in Cote D’ Ivoire? Try it and see if we will not wipe out the three million Nigerians in Cote D’ Ivoire, try it and see if Nigerians in Cote D’ Ivoire will not become dogs”.

When remained that Nigeria was only a chair of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the position taken was that of the region, Ossey his colleagues to stop convincing us, muttering angrily to the embarrassment of his other colleagues who Nigerians in that country will be wiped out if the interference does not stop.

When cornered at the interaction of President Goodluck Jonathan with Nigerians in Addis Ababa, Monday, to react, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Odien Ajumogobia, described the threats as unfortunate as Nigeria was only towing the line of regional decisions.

He was however silent on what the government was going to do about the safety of Nigerians under threat in that country.
