Politics › Libya's Gaddafi Proposes 1 Million-strong African Army by EFCC1(op): 7:16pm On Dec 15, 2010 |
DAKAR (Reuters) - African nations should join forces to create a one-million-strong army to protect the continent and confront outsiders like NATO and China, Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi said on Tuesday. Gaddafi, well known for his forthright rhetoric, has acquired growing influence in Africa but his ambition to build a united states of Africa is not shared by the continent's biggest powers. "National militaries alone cannot save countries. Africa should have one army with one million soldiers," Gaddafi said in a speech in the Senegalese capital. He said the joint force would "guard the borders and seas, protect Africa's independence and confront NATO, China, France, Britain and other countries."
Speaking at an event called the World Festival of Black Arts and Cultures, Gaddafi also attacked opponents of his long-standing proposal for a unified African government. "They should leave home, abandon their countries and go and live in the capitals of the capitalist, imperialist countries which once occupied Africa," he said in his speech. Gaddafi has been pushing for an African unity government for years, saying it is the only way Africa can develop without Western interference. His ideas have had a sympathetic response in some states, helped by his reputation in parts of the continent as champion of the developing world and also by the millions of dollars in aid his oil-exporting country gives to Africa. But many African leaders, especially in the bigger economies, are sceptical. They say they cannot be expected to cede sovereignty to an African bloc only a few decades after wresting it from their colonial rulers. Politics › Nigeria To sell 3 Presidential Jets by EFCC1(op): 9:12am On Dec 06, 2010 |
Indications emerged on Sunday that the Federal Government had concluded plans to sell three of the aircraft in the Presidential Air Fleet.
The aircraft are a Hawker 125-800, Falcon 900B and Gulfstream IV.
Consequently, a panel set up under the Office of the National Security Adviser has put up the three jets for sale through an invitation to tender. It was contained in the Thursday edition of the Federal Government’s Tenders in Nigeria Journal.
The notice, which was signed by the panel’s Secretary, Mr. Basil Udota, reads in part, “Tenders are hereby invited from prospective buyers of a nine-seater + three crew seater Hawker 125-800 executive aircraft (otherwise known as HS 125-800), which is currently in the use of the Presidential Air Fleet and registered as 5N-AGZ.
“Tenders are hereby invited from prospective buyers of a 16 seater + three crew seater Falcon 900B executive aircraft, which is currently in the use of the Presidential Air Fleet and registered as 5N-FGO.
“Tenders are hereby invited from prospective buyers of a 14 seater + three crew seater Gulfstream IV executive aircraft (otherwise known as GIV) which is currently in the use of the Presidential Air Fleet and registered as 5N-FGP.”
According to the journal, all tenders must be submitted in a sealed envelope to the Office of the Secretary to the Panel on the Sale of Three Presidential Aircraft in the NSA’s Office on or before Tuesday.
The tender stated that the aircraft would be available for inspection by all interested bidders at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on appointment.
According to the advertisement, two of the aircraft were manufactured in 1990 while one was manufactured in 1988. The jets were said to be in good condition.
When contacted on the telephone on Sunday, Udota confirmed the development but said he could only speak after the sale of the aircraft. The Special Adviser to the President on Aviation Matters, Capt. Shehu Iyal, did not pick calls to his phone.
However, THE PUNCH learnt that the sale might not be unconnected with the proposed acquisition of new aircraft by the Federal Government. http://www.punchng.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art201012061322351The Federal Government are Planning on how to Sell three of its presidential aeroplane. i just heard over radio news and i was wondering how many they got. |

edhonda: It's obvious that she likes u but u don't just want to stay 'good friends' so get a nice secluded comfortable place for your nxt date and go for the kill (I mean kiss not peck o!) Condom: Man up and call the broad. If she rejects you so what, there are other crayfishes in the sea and you should always have backups anyway. Carolece: be a man and face up. why would you want to text a question so "important"? tiana1: There is nothing to be scared of. . . . girls dont bite! Good luck degubi: There are things you might not be able to observe if you sent her a text, you will not be able to see the expression on her face when you reveal your feelings, you will not be able to decipher her body language, you will not be able to determine the appropriate moment to state your intentions. Besides a woman would appreciate you being open with your feelings than you sending her a text, it smacks of immaturity and unseriousness. If she is that important to you look her in the eyes and say that which is in your heart. I really Appreciate You Guys/Girls input https://www.pic4ever.com/images/oregonian_winesmiley.gif |
