Nairaland GeneralHow Buhari Backtracks On Sack Of Service Chief Over Coup Fear by efogator(op):
SOURCE: http://www.efogator.com/2019/08/how-buhari-backtracks-on-sack-of.html

- Security Reports Doctored To Keep President uninformed

For fear of a coup de tat, President Muhammadu Buhari, rescinded his
move to sack the serving security chiefs last week, EfogatorNews
authoritatively gathered.

Presidency sources revealed that Buhari beat a retreat on his move to
sack the military brass after members of his inner caucus cautioned him
against it for fear that soldiers loyal to those in line to succeed the
service chiefs are not too well known and might instigate a coup against
him.

The reluctance of the President to sack members of the military hierarchy is despite the allegations of massive illegal financial dealings they have been involved in under the guise of war against insurgency. Most of the Service Chiefs have continued to stay on despite reaching the mandatory retirement age in service.

President Buhari had in July 2015 appointed new Service Chiefs and a
National Security Adviser, after sacking their predecessors whom he
worked with briefly after he won election in same year.

The president appointed Major-General Abayomi Gabriel Olonishakin as Chief of Defence Staff; Major-General T.Y. Buratai as Chief of Army Staff; Rear Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas as Chief of Naval Staff; and Air
Vice Marshal Sadique Abubakar as Chief of Air Staff.

He also appointed Air Vice Marshal Monday Riku Morgan as Chief of
Defence Intelligence; Retired Major-General Babagana Monguno as National Security Adviser.

These service chiefs have continued to preside over the security
architecture of the country, despite criticisms that the war against
insurgency has lingered longer than the President promised it would end.

This week, residents of Borno State had written to President Buhari
informing him that Boko Haram insurgency has not been defeated

The letter which was signed by Hassan Boguma accused the military of not doing enough in the fight against insurgency, noting that Boko Haram terrorists now attack without any countermeasures from the military.

However, Villa sources knowledgeable of Buhari’s backtracking on his
plans to remove the service chiefs, said the president major fear is how
he would establish the trust of new set of service chiefs.

The sources added that the service chiefs have been exploiting the
president’s dilemma by looting the treasury.

“I hear PMB changed his mind about sacking the security chiefs last week because they are afraid of a coup. He is not sure of those to trust
because he knows things are messed up,” a source said.

The source added, “He is keeping the present security chiefs because
they are ‘loyal’ and won’t trouble him. They are busy stealing so much
money and want the situation to remain. If PMB removes them or tries to probe them, their boys may try to fight back.”

It was further gathered that security reports to the president are often
doctored such that when he is usually told that negative reports with
regards to killings and kidnappings are PDP sponsored stories in the
media.

“They also tactically make sure he does not go to affected areas. They
also ensure diplomats who want to see the president to discuss security
issues are blocked.

“It’s been ongoing in the last two weeks now. He told his inner caucus
of his plans to remove the service chiefs but some advised against it
because they don’t trust the ones who might take over and also fear
because of the many security challenges in the country a coup might
happen,” the source added.

Nairaland GeneralMeet Godwin Ubaka Okeke, Chairman GUO Transport Services by efogator(op): 7:07pm On Aug 13, 2019
I started transportation business at 21 with my father’s Peugeot 404 car –GU Okeke, Chairman, GUO Motors

Chief Dr. (Sir) Godwin Ubaka Okeke, popularly known as GUO, is the Chairman, Board of Directors, GU Okeke & Sons Ltd; Chairman, Board of Directors, GU Okeke Transport Services Company Ltd; Chairman, Board of Directors, Anambra Motor Manufacturing Company Limited (ANAMMCO); Chairman, Board of Directors, Varaman Industries Ltd; Member, Board of Directors, Bhojsons Ltd; Chairman, Board of Trustees, Godwin & Patricia Okeke Foundation, and Member, Anambra State Security Advisory Council.

He said that at the age of 21, immediately after the civil war, he started transportation business with his father’s car, 404 Peugeot, from Onitsha to Enugu, which helped him to save money to buy his first vehicle for the business that has placed him where he is today..

In this interview with Daily Sun, he spoke on the economy, business and sundry issues including, Nigerian politics, youth empowerment and leadership, among others.

Growing up

It was fine with a lot of challenges. I am the sixth male child of my parents. I am the sixth of eight children. It was tough growing up, but I found myself helping out in bringing up my younger ones. Apart from being the sixth, I have two others, one female and another male. I was just like taking care of them, helping out in the cooking and every other thing, although it helped me a lot, because even at this old age, I can still prepare food for myself in the absence of my wife and every other grown up in the house. It was a good experience.

Starting transportation business

You see, in my family we have never done transport business, and at the end of the war, I have told you that, the training I had with Man O’ War gave me the courage of moving into certain areas without being afraid of anything at the end of the war.

So, on the second day the war ended, we trekked with some of my brothers, from Adazi Ani to Nnewi on foot, which is about 10 to 12 kilometres away from my hometown. We trekked to Nnewi, saw one or two things, came back, saw some of the military checkpoints; nobody molested us.

They would just search you and if you were not having any arms, and you were not having anything with you, they let you go. So we went to Nnewi, no molestation, came back to Adazi, no molestation, and I now said, oh, it is true that the war has ended, having seen fierce looking northern troupes on the road without harming anybody, so that gave me encouragement.

So, the following day, I asked my parents to let me go to Onitsha and see if our building and property were safe, and they said okay, and gave me their Peugeot 404 vehicle and I drove down to Onitsha because during the war, I also got myself Biafran driving license, because we also helped the military in one way or the other.

Nairaland GeneralOpen Letter From Oodua Groups To Sultan Of Sokoto by efogator(op): 6:33pm On Aug 13, 2019
The hour for decision to be or not to be for Nigeria is here. Let all persons of honour hear and take more and act for peace and mutuality in honour, respect and coexistence. No one people have the exclusivity or monopoly of good or evil. Na condition dey make crawfish bend.

THIS IS VERY TIMELY AND APT. THIS IS TRUTH THAT SAVES PEOPLE AND NATION.

Open letter to the Sultan of Sokoto, Abubakar Said and the Fulani leaders

August 08, 2019

The Sultan of Sokoto and Fulani Leader
His Eminence Alhaji Abubakar Sa’ad

THE STATE OF THE NATION
We write this letter to you considering your importance as the head of the Fulani people in Nigeria. You are also the head of Fulani Muslims in Nigeria. It is our hope that you will be able to share the thoughts expressed here with the 7 million Fulani people in Nigeria through your traditional means of communication.

We write to honour you with this letter, given the floundering opportunities for a dialogue on the future of Nigeria, which has eluded the various ethnic groups in Nigeria and which may not enhance itself too soon.

Given the drumbeats of armed violence and extremism perpetrated largely by your people, and the fleeting prospects of a national dialogue, we hope this letter will not be the last opportunity to constructively engage you and the Fulani nation.

We, on behalf of Apapo Oodua Koya, (AOKOYA), a coalition of several Itsekiri, Edo and Yoruba groups write with our deepest feelings about the Nigerian state and what appears to be the pitfalls that lay ahead, most of which are oiled and orchestrated by your own people, the Fulani, albeit consciously.

THE PAST

There was no history of Fulani in today’s territory until 1804. This was 800 years after the Yoruba Kingdoms had been established, about 600 years after the Hausa, Ijaw, Tiv, Igala, Junkun Kingdoms had flourished. The Igbo Nation had existed for centuries before your people wandered into this hemisphere.
We recall that your forebears came to power through brutal and bloody conquest of indigenous peoples in many parts of Northern Nigeria under the guise of Islam even though Islam had taken firm roots in Yorubaland, Kano and Bornu Empires as early as the 11th century.

Since your sojourn in Nigeria, you have been very lucky.

A whole country of over 300 ethnic groups, was handed over to you a foreigner, first through conquest of some of its part, you, who never owned an inch of land centuries earlier in this hemisphere.

You have reaped the fruits which trees you did not plant and you knew not when they were planted.

Moreso, you were from a family of wanderers and your emergence as Emir and traditional ruler was unusual, having no royal blood in your veins ab initio.

No doubt, You succeeded in taking over the land, the main means of production of these innocent peoples whose main offence was that they were too caring, too gentle, too subservient and accommodating of foreigners in their ancestral homeland, Today, you sit on a throne soaked with the blood of millions of innocent souls anguished with deafening ears to the agony of the spirit of millions of victims of the horrendous killings by your men, who came from Fouta Jallon in Senegal, only some 210 years ago.

The British left in 1960 and you emerged as the main benefactor eventhough your people were not known to have fought for independence.

You were wise enough to plant your people in the security institutions, a reflection of your preference for force and brigandage instead of a knowledge-driven society.

Through direct military intervention or subterfuge, sly plots, you have been ruling Nigeria, or determining who rule Nigeria since 1960. This is a rare luck that only courageous people can manage for some time, but needs wise, intelligent, decent and conscientious people to manage for a millennium.

Under the false, artificial creation called Nigeria, your people produce no oil, yet you appropriate and decide how the resources should be expended.

You have no access to the Ocean, yet you decide which goods should be imported and which vessel should ply routes that indigenous owners of this God given oceans had been using for centuries.

All the military weapons were bought not by your money, but you decide who should use them and who should be killed by the same weapons. You have no rich scholarly tradition, yet your people sit on the Nigerian Universities Commission, (NUC) and decide the faith of other Nigerians.

You located all the military institutions in your land, more out of fear than out of love for justice and fairplay.

90 percent of Nigerian resources are sourced from the South and Middle Belt, yet you decide how the funds should be spent. Did you think this irresponsible way of life will continue for ever? Did your people think we are foolish and even if we are, did you think coming generations will accept this brazen exploitation? We have called for dialogue on these issues, but you call it treason.

The truth is that you have grossly mismanaged this opportunity. Your ruinous and destructive tradition has robbed on all Nigerians. Your intuition for aggression has become a national culture. Your disdain for debate and logical criticisms has been imbibed by Nigerians who continue to gravitate towards the custodians of political power, whose way of life must be imbibed for recognition.

You have ruined and destroyed this whole nation at your beckon due to your exclusive, narrow, primordial and savage instincts driven only by your self interest and your brutal and non-negotiable desire to conquer and subdue every nationality in Nigeria. This is a tall task which you are hell bent in executing.

Nairaland GeneralUnmasking The Suspected Taraba Kidnap Kingpin Wadume by efogator(op): 7:47am On Aug 13, 2019
THE suspected Taraba kidnap kingpin is a petty fish trader, painter, politician, polygamist with many children and a philanthropist. His wealth status might have been exergerated because of his generosity and profligate spending.

He was reclusive until the last two years. His wealth, allegedly through kidnapping shot him into ‘prominence’.

He is at the centre of a disagreement between the Army and the Police following soldiers killing of three policemen and a civilian who were on an anti-kidnapping mission in Taraba State.

The incident is under probe following public outcry.

Who is he? His name is Hamisu Bala. His nickname is “Why Do You Mean?”, which many mistake for “Wadume.” He is a Hausa man whose great grand father migrated from Katsina state.

He was born and brought up in Ibi local government area of Taraba State. His late father, Bala, was Hausa, while his mother was Tiv, from Ukum local government area of Benue state.

He holds a secondary school certificate, having attended the Government Secondary School (GSS) Ibi. It was gathered that he was “not a brilliant” Arts student.

“He completed secondary school in 2004 and did not proceed to any tertiary institution,” one of his classmates told The Nation.

Bala, 35, suddenly became so rich that many believe he made it through ‘ritual’. His posh residence in Ibi was built only last year. Before then, he was a petty trader who specialised in buying and selling fish in Ibi.

“He was not even a big trader; he could only afford to buy only one or most of the time, half a basket of fish to sell at retail prices,” a source, who knows him well, said.

Bala was a painter who had partnership with his brother.

During the 2019 polls, he aspired to become a House of Assembly member, representing Ibi Constituency, on the platform of the Young Democratic Party (YDP). But, he did not make it.

After making money Bala has been living the life of a philanthropist.

In the last two years, he reportedly built houses for his friends and donated hundreds of motorcycles and cars to young men and women. He is also believed to be generous to security agents.

“Sometimes he (alleged kidnapper) goes to tea sellers and settles the bills of tea drinkers. Then, he gives N10,000 each to the people,” a source in Ibi said.

Two of his wives have been under house arrest. His other two wives are in Mecca on pilgrimage, it was learnt.

So, how did police know Bala was a big time kidnapper to the extent of apprehending him? One of Bala’s accomplices, known as Kwarba, was apprehended by the police in Jalingo, over his alleged involvement in the kidnapping of a Permanent Secretary.

During interrogation, Kwarba revealed that Bala was their leader. The police then allowed Kwarba to be communicating with Bala on the phone for over three days, as though he was not in detention. Based on their communication, the police were able to gather useful information.

It was during one of their conversations on the phone that Bala disclosed that he was coming to Ibi for Eid el Kabir celebration. On arrival in Ibi, Bala phoned Kwarba to inform him.

Operatives of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) embarked on the journey. They got to the police headquarters in Jalingo, before proceeding to Ibi, in a white Toyota Hummer Bus marked, LAGOS: MUS-564EU.

Nairaland GeneralHeart Touching Story From Boko Haram War Front By A Soldier by efogator(op): 9:00am On Aug 09, 2019
Combat is never a comfortable or enjoyable experience and cant be made so. But the soldier who is eating well, has adequate supplies and modern equipment, and also feels that he is being supported both by the Army and the civilian population, will perform far better than the one who feels neglected,” – Lt. Gen. William G. Pagonis.

For more than ten years now, the dreaded and blood-thirsty members of the insurgent group called Boko Haram have held the nation and some African states in the jugular. They have continued to spill blood and bile, kidnap, rape and rob, especially in the North Eastern part of the country and beyond, without restraint.

On their part, the Nigerian army have embraced the challenge with vigour, vivacity and verve. They have exhibited unequalled and unrestrained gallantry.

However, the bloody music has continued ceaselessly drenching the nation with unimaginable tales of horror being unleashed by the insurgents.

A chance meeting with one of the active participants and a gallant soldier, straight from the battle field, unravelled stomach-churning and eye-popping tales from the war front, fit only in dreams. Excerpts:

Life in Maiduguri

Life there generally in Maiduguri was not easy, but we thank God for the grace to be alive. I have crisscrossed and served at many locations there, because I am a member of the Armed Forces Special Forces (AFSF), so, if there is an attack in any location, we are likely to be moved to reinforce another location.

I have been under Mafa, a local government where we have 112 Force Battalion as at September/December 2016. I have also been in Dikwa, the Headquarter of 22 brigade. From Dikwa we moved to Gachigbo where we had a company located there, then to Logomani, then to head bridge, the Gaborun ngala, under Calabangi local government. From Calabangi local government, we equally have a location called Rann, where last time, there was a helicopter mishap.

When they came, rather than shooting the enemies who were at the IDP camp, they shot at us about 8-9 pm on that faithful day. They claimed later that they could not differentiate between the enemies and our soldiers.

File: Some of the Boko Haram members who surrendered recently. The military did not allow Ali Goni’s photograph to be taken as he is a minor
But that excuse did not hold water. This is because we were well kitted but Boko Haram insurgents were a rag-tag group and you could easily differentiate us from them. Moreover, a fighter with night vision goggle was supposed to differentiate us from the enemies. This obviously cannot happen with the British or US army.

Secondly, many times when we come under enemy attack, we call air force and sometimes they don’t come. Sometimes they come and say they don’t have the authorization to engage the enemies. Just like the attack that took place on August 15, this year at Bama, the jet went ahead and saw those Boko Haram Troups bouncing towards our location.

He told the ground troops to withdraw, that the strength of the enemy was overwhelming. The officer who was a major, standing in place of the commanding officer ordered us to engage them, but the pilot said he had not received authorization. Do we need authorization from anywhere to kill the insurgents when they were killing our soldiers? So, we went ahead and recorded another mass casualty there. Sometimes, they will tell you they don’t have aviation fuel.

Camerounianans and Mine Resistant vehicles

Also, the incident that took place in July, this year, in Jakana which is the Operational Area Responsibility (OAR) for 212 Taskforce battalion, when the fighter jet eventually came, they released only one bomb and disappeared. When Boko haram terrorists came again, the troops withdrew.

Then, we called them to return but they refused, saying that Boko Haram was shooting at it with Anti Aircraft (AA). They also claimed that they could site some of our soldiers on uniform among them but we told them that those people were not our men; they just had uniform. We told them to kill anything you see inside the camp.

The pilot still left. That was why Boko haram over ran that camp. At a point in time, when the General Officer in Command, GOC, paid a visit to the location two days after the attack, he was not happy with the performance of the Airforce. The battles fronts are many. Bama, Banki, Darel-Jema, Kumshe areas where we and some Cameroonian forces carried out joint patrol.

If you come out there, you would come across Pulka, then by the left again, you would go to a place called Ngoshe. When you pass Gwoza, you will enter a village called Imankra, from there, you get to Madangali, after there, Mubi. These are parts of Adamawa, but again, these are all under 23 Brigade. So, we didn’t want to interfere with their activities.

So at Bama, the Cameroonians have a lot of Mine Resistance ambush protection vehicles but we, as a battalion can boast of only one or two. However, the problem is that the Cameroonians don’t have the mind to resist attacks. So, when the insurgents attacked Kumshe, most of them fled. But Nigerian troops manned the vehicles which we used to dislodge them.
Nigerian troops rallied to flush out Boko Haram rag tag forces in Guzamala

The battle of Alargano

Alagano is the spiritual temple or Headquarters of Boko Haram. It is where they have their Imams, Mullas etc. During the battle that took place in November/December, last year, we surrounded the place and most of the insurgents fled under our heavy gun fire. But, their head, the Imam, stood. We were shooting him but bullets couldn’t penetrate him. At a point, we had to move the car and hit him down, and then we used other weapons like rod, to inflict physical injuries on him. Eventually, we took him for questioning to the command, from there, they took him to Abuja for further interrogation and after then, we didn’t hear anything again.

The battle of Gudumbali

“Gudungali is the headquarters of Guzamala local government area. Those guys came In about 17 to 18 gun trucks at dawn and started shooting and chanting Alahu Akbah. They entered all places and dislodged our troops, soldiers and civilians were all running. It wasn’t a sudden ambush, but a deliberate attack. You could say you are prepared, but, when there is fire power that overwhelms you, it becomes difficult. They continued to shoot, we tried our best, but at a point, there was no more ammunition.

So, the troops started to retreat from Guzamala to Gudumbali, about seven kilometres on foot with civilians. We tried our best, we stood for about seven to eight hours with those guys, but, when it was dusk, we ran. They had excess ammunition to waste. When they are attacking they don’t conserve ammunition or observe fire discipline. So, they took over the area temporarily. But, by morning when our fighter jet came, we dislodged them.

RomanceA Must Read: The Captivating Story Of Isokene, The Ever Smiling Wife by efogator(op): 8:02pm On Mar 25, 2019
I was at my family house for the Christmas festivities, that was the only time I literally saw my parents and relatives, it was always a beautiful Reunion.

As a marriage counselor God was helping, my traveling itinerary for the year was always filled, ministering from one Women’s program to the other, From one marriage seminar to the other, and my message was simple…”No matter how terrible your marriage could be, it was WORKABLE….” but my encounter with Isokene and her husband got me thinking if this was true…

A fair skinned lady walked up to me at the Family Reunion, she looked a bit familiar but couldn’t place the face. She greeted me like a well cultured lady, and I replied her, asking about her sister as she looked like one of my old friends.

I obviously was mixing her up with someone else. She called my attention to that, and told me her real identity, she was one of those extended extended younger cousins of mine…I noticed she had a sparkling wedding ring on, I made a compliment about that, but her smile was not impressive enough, but I couldn’t help but admire her dimples.

“I wish I had one of those dimples” I said, trying to make her smile…and that she did…Her smile was beautiful, her smile could make anyone who was sad become happy, her smile was like light, I had never seen a smile as pure, interesting and beautiful as her smile, I wish my smile could have that kind of Effect….”This smile could be a ministry you know” I thought to myself, Her smile could give hope to a dying person…Her voice brought me back to reality…

” Thank you ma, You just made me smile for real for the first time in two months”… She said…

” What’s your name again?” I asked wanting to connect to her…

“Isoken”…. Almost immediately, I heard another voice…,but this time a male voice…

” Isokene, my beautiful wife I call her Isokene to personalize her name, the world can call her Isoken , but I added “E” to customize her name….Ma, do you know the meaning of Isoken, It means “Contented with my destiny”…She is my ISOKEN, I am content having her as my destined wife”

I turned to see who was speaking, it was a lanky dark skinned young man who was an opposite of his wife in terms of complexion and composure…

” Oh, Young man, How are you?” I said with a smile

“I am not a young man, I am an old man in a young body” he said jokingly

” Ok, old man, how are you?” I also replied smiling…

” Very fine ma, it is a pleasure meeting you, when Isokene told me you were related, I didn’t believe her, I agreed to come with her to this party, just to see you and ask you for a favour”…

” Ok, what is the favour?” I asked

” Before, I ask for the favour, I want you to say a word into our lives”… He knelt down pulling his wife with him

” Isokene will be a great wife to you in Jesus name and you will also be a Super husband to her in Jesus name, You both will always make each other smile in Jesus name ”

” Jesus!” He exclaimed… ” You are a real woman of God, How did you know about my wife’s smile, Isokene, did you tell her anything?”

Isokene shook her head in the negative…

” Ma’am please I need you to help me tell Isokene to stop smiling, I only want her to smile for me, when she is outside, she should maintain a straight look”…

I was shocked to my bones, I was not sure if I was hearing correctly, the young old man continued…

FamilyHe Carried A Bullet In His Hand For 28 Days by efogator(op): 7:49pm On Mar 08, 2019
The incident happened on the 7th of February, I just got back from work when I heard my son Rocky scream so loud.

I rushed out and saw him crying and holding his right hand. We all thought something had cut his hand maybe while he was playing with the cup he was using to drink water.

We rushed him to a local Bone doctor close to the house. The man did his best to adjust the bone and asked us to wait till the wound heals then we can come to fix the bone properly.

All these while we thought we were treating bone. Not until few days ago we decided to do a scan and we found out a stray bullet almost hit this boy somewhere else but instead of hitting somewhere else, it hit his hand.

We just did a minor surgery yesterday and a bullet was taken out. Rocky carried this bullet for 28 days. It could only be God. God did this for us and we are forever grateful.

No matter how careful you think you are, if God does not have watch your back, forget it!
