Oga Mykeolinks. I read your request the first time. However, I didn't make any input then cos I considered your question ambiguous. And I still do. The reason for this is that vaccines requirements differ from one hatchery to another. Therefore, my piece of advice will be that you get your DOCs directly from a reputable hatchery where you will be given the vaccination schedule on demand. Meanwhile, you may consider starting with 200 DOCs for a test-run. Success |
Nbg4real. I believe you are not a first-time farmer. Therefore, my advise will be that you follow the brooding/treatment schedule that HSS worked for you previously. Better still, follow the schedule issued by the hatchery from which you got the birds. abidecz & grade1. I don't know if there is any "best" feed which makes laying birds produce bigger eggs. However, you may wish to note the following; the weightier a bird is at commencement of laying, the bigger the eggs produced will be; 2. the older a bird gets, the bigger its eggs become; 3. healthy birds lay bigger eggs; 4. birds need 16 hours daylight for maximum output. jamp. I believe AnimalCare is only subsidizing its feeds at your end just to penetrate the market. The pricing may change sometimes soon. Success All. |
Oga jamp. How is your end? It has been a while. AnimalCare is really doing you guys good there. The Growfast is a little over 2k here. Merry Christmas Bro |
viktor556. 84% is a decent production rate. However, it should increase in the coming days as production peaks. I'm happy for you. Meanwhile, it is important you avoid anything that can stress your birds at this time e.g beak-trimming. Success. |
Limamimi. My pleasure, ma. |
Limamini. Ok. Understood now. I'll suggest you persevere a little more. All things being equal, your birds will start producing enough eggs to meet expenses on their feeds with a little profit beside. Success. |
Limamimi. Are you saying getting the funds to buy feeds for your birds is proving difficult? |
Ayostically. Lab test is the surest way to determine that. However, if there is no vaccine failure, 6 weeks & 4 weeks intervals during rainy & dry/hot seasons respectively are suggested, please. |
Merry Christmas & a prosperous 2016 to you too @ AdeJunaid. |
Judithume. What was their average weight at the start of lay? |
Judithume. At what age did they start laying? What was their average weight then? At what percentage of laying were they when you switched to layers mash? |
viktor556. I'll suggest you open the vaccine in 25% of the birds total daily water intake. 4 litres of water is obviously too little for your number of birds. Success |
viktor556, congratulations. You may wish to increase their daily feeds consumption to 115g/bird. I assume they are on layers mash now. Success. |
khloeee. The information you have is wrong. As noted by Nwogbe, it takes between #850 - #1000 to buy & raise a DOC to laying. Therefore, you may need to adjust your projections. viktor556. Good one. What is the production today? Do endeavor to give Stresoak due to the not-so-ideal ventilation in your farm. Success. |
donfelix4sure. Your challenge is indeed of concern. However, to know what to recommend, I'll like you to shed more light on the birds; what is the production percentage of the main flock from where you got yours? What is the colour of the birds? Are they in cages or on deep litter? Do they have lice? What is their average weight? What quantity of feed are you giving them? Are they on layers or growers? From where do you get your feeds? Is the pen well ventilated? (Say how), when precisely did they start laying? Please, be detailed with the answers. Success. |
viktor556. Please, do administer Lasota as soon as it is due. Your production should peak within the next week. Hope you have switched to layers mash. smankerana. It is important you administer Lasota whenever it is due so long as the birds don't have any bacterial infection. Success, please. |
abidecz. From the pix, I can ASSUME that 3 out of the 4 sides are blocked, hence limiting the ventilation. That is not ideal, especially at this time of extreme weather; very cold at night/morning, very hot in the afternoon. Your birds are being challenged by HEAT STRESS due to poor ventilation. I'll recommend "Stresoak" - an anti stress herbal mixture to be given as prescribed as a temporary solution. Permanent solution will be to relocate the birds to a more conducive pen as soon as you are able. Ayodapoemmanuel. I've no prior experience with birds from "yammfy farms". I'll only advise you follow strictly the treatment/management schedule given you by the agent. Smankerena. What is causing the CRD? Where are the pullets from? Did you use the antibiotics in the right dosage & for the prescribed number of days? Are you sure the only bacterial infection the birds have is respiratory? Administering antibiotics without first determining the causative factors could be counterproductive. Success. |
abidecz. Ok. I'll do that. However, there are a couple of things I need you to know. 1. Weigh about 23 of the birds randomly & tell us the result. 2. Give us the daily production chart; is the number of eggs increasing daily? 3. What is the calcium content of the feeds you're giving them? 4. What is the quantity of feeds you're giving them? 5. What is the ventilation/lightening situation in your pen like? Be clear with your answers, pls. |
Ayodapoemmanuel. From which hatchery were your pullets sourced? Most reputable hatcheries give Mareks vaccine before selling out the DOCs; a second dose is just for double guarantee. However, it is still very important for you to know from which hatchery your birds were sourced. It influences your management practices. Viktor556. Your birds have issues with NCD. Ciprovet is a broad spectrum antibiotics which has been taking care of the secondary infections in your flock. However, the primary issue is NCD. I will advice you administer Lasota/Komorov 5 days after completing dosage of Ciprovet. abidecz. Same thing applies to you, sir. In addition, the "low" daily eggs output you're seeing is a result of poor uniformity in your flock. Others will start laying when they attain the required weight of 1.5kg. Are you giving them layers or growers mash? There are a few things you can do to stimulate production but, I won't advise you to do those now. Administer Lasota days after giving antibiotics & feed them generously. |
abidecz. How many times have you administered injectable NDVK vaccine to the birds? When was the last time you did this? Which hatchery were the birds from? And were you given any vaccination schedule? |
anidecz. Tell us more about your flock; are the birds just coming into lay; have you had mortalities in recent days? what is the colour of the waste; when last did you administer Lasota? what is the calcium content of the feed? |
Ayodapoemmanuel. Your penhouse is probably too hot for your birds. I'll suggest you look into increasing the ventilation. Felshow. You have done what needed to be done by giving your birds calcium supplement. Just be patient; they will resume walking soon. Success. |
Trueigbo. Since you mentioned Jos, I'll just point out that the weather their is one of the most suitable for egg production in Nigeria as it is almost, always mild (22°C thereabout). However, talking generally, what were the average weights of your flocks (the 2 batches) when they started laying? All things being equal, the higher the weight of a pullet at the start of lay, the bigger the eggs it produces will be. Meanwhile, you may try photostimulation as a way of increasing size of the eggs. Success. |
samuel25. Yes, use the vitamin & antibiotics at the same time. |
Ok Bro @ samuel25. I believe Zartech recommend Enrofloxacin or Doxy Gen 20-20 for their DOC. Therefore, I'll advise you stick with the Enrofloxacin with sufficient vitamins. I'll also suggest you ensure there are no smoke coming from the charcoal before you place the pot in the brooding house. In addition, be sure the brooding room is not too hot for the birds. I wish you success. Stay calm, please. |
samuel25. Just as FarmTech said, we need detailed info as to your management practices to come up with possible solutions (though, I'm not so much into broiler). How many are the birds; what is the size of your brooding house; which source of warmth (heat) are you using; what's the bedding (litter) like; from where & through whom did you get the DOCs; etc. Thanks. |
tuk2ato. The cages you read about on AmoBygn website are for those engaged in highly intensive practices and are often the very big farms with pullets in tens, if not hundreds of thousands. For those with several hundreds to a few thousand, the standard is to raise on the litter for between 12 & 14 weeks before being moved into cages. 9jazeal. Please, don't allow all the agents deceive you. Virtually all the hatcheries produce pullets DOCs along with cockerels & broilers. And as an aside, the "fragile" DOCs you got earlier may not really be from Zartech or they could be those discarded during"sorting", but smuggled out & sold. Get online & obtain the direct contact details of the hatcheries. Success |
Ayostically. Yes, the Concentrate contains other ingredients excluding maize & wheat offal. Yes, the results are the same. Just be sure you get quality maize. jamp. I buy my maize from Farm Support Services outlet (it's a subsidiary/partner of AnimalCare Konsult) & with 100kg at #6800 here,, transportation expenses may make getting it from here ill-advised. And as noted by Ayostically, enjoy the discounted price of finished feeds while it lasts. 9jazeal. Please, don't feed your pullets with Starter Mash beyond the 9th week. Doing so is deliberate financial sabotage against your business. Meanwhile, what precisely do you mean by Zartech DOCs being fragile? DOCs are meant to be fragile. Anyway, OTHER reputable hatchery in Nigeria INCLUDE CHI, Obasanjo, Amo Bygn & Farm Support. |
davidzfarm18. A bag of Laymore Concentrate goes for #3305. This will be mixed with 42 kg of maize @ #68/kg = #2856 & 17kg of wheat offal @ #44/kg = #748. This amounts to 3305 + 2856 + 748 = #6909 for 84kg (25 + 42 + 17) of laymore fmash. This translates to about #83/kg. A bag of laymore finished feed goes for #2450 here in Owo, Ondo State. |
red19. Can you give detailed description of the issue? Are you talking of Coryza? |
jamp. Thanks Bro. I buy maize from Farm Support outlet nearby. It was #70/kg as at last week. However, it has dropped to #68/kg as at Wednesday. I'm talking about grounded maize packaged in 50kg bags. |
Ayostically. Concentrate is basically a mixture of some feeds ingredients which are not included in larger percentage. Example; soybeans, GNC, lysine, methionine, etc. For Animal Care & Amo Bygn Concentrates, you're required to add maize & wheat offal. I learnt Top Feeds & a Koulidjis (not sure I got the spelling right) have concentrates. In all, the mixing ratio is attached to the bag. And you can save up to #300/bag with concentrate. |
