Does Segun Ojo has sufficient credibility to be accusing anyone of betrayal? This is the same Segun Ojo who has been in all the political parties from AD to PDP to LP, now APC. He is a man who supports whoever comes to him with most money. While not disputing the authenticity of the report (you need massive money to win elections in present day Nigeria), I think its importance will be lost on the readers cos the messenger lacks credibility. NIGERIA NEEDS UNTAINTED CHARACTERS IN LEADERSHIP POSITIONS. |
As incredible as this report may seem, it is mostly logical. The way Boko Haram insurgents were gaining upper hand over the hitherto internationally acclaimed Nigeria military betrayed involvement of some external forces. The question that remains to be answered is which of the 2 main political parties is festering the Boko Haram issue for its sadistic agenda? |
National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Adamu Mu’aazu, on Monday alleged that the current fuel scarcity in the country was sponsored by some opposition leaders. Mu’azu, in a series of tweets on his official Twitter page, alleged that the opposition leaders and some vested interests were behind the hoarding of fuel which, according to him, was responsible for fuel scarcity in the country. He, however, did not mention the names of the opposition leaders. The PDP chairman said the fuel scarcity was engineered to undermine the profile of President Goodluck Jonathan ahead of the elections. He said all plans to tarnish the image of Jonathan would not work. He said in the tweets, “Concerned Nigerians have drawn our attention to the fact that some opposition leaders and vested interest are behind hoarding of fuel. “Concerned Nigerians also draw our attention to plans by those who control the South-West disco to sabotage electricity in the zone. “We assure Nigerians, they will fail. All their plans to tarnish the image of government will fail like all other previous attempts. We want to assure concerned Nigerians, especially all of you here on social media, that we will reverse this trend soonest. |
If indeed she said this, then we should look at ourselves because a nation almost always gets the type of leadership it deserves. However, I doubt if indeed she said this cos her husband has always insisted that his ambition wasn't worth the blood of any Nigeria; and I guess that includes the blood of APC supporters. MEANWHILE, WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF A PROSPECTIVE BUYER REQUESTS FOR HIS/HER "CHANGE" FROM ANY OF THE MARKET WOMEN? (assuming this report is true) |
Ok. I guess your point all along is that we should follow the devil because we know him. That isn't surprising to me cos I once told a friend that while majority of Nigerians ain't satisfied with the Jonathan Administration, they'll still not vote him out because Africans, Nigerians inclusive, are too conservative. They are generally afraid of the unknown. MEANWHILE, I'LL LIKE YOU TO GO THROUGH ALL MY SUBMISSIONS ON THIS THREAD AND TELL ME SINCERELY IF YOU COULD SEE ANYWHERE I EXPLICITLY CONDEMN THE PDP AND/OR PRAISE THE APC. I DOUBT IF YOU'LL FIND ANY COS I DON'T HAVE SYMPATHY FOR EITHER, BUT FOR OUR DEMOCRACY & NIGERIANS WHO WILL BENEFIT IF GOOD GOVERNANCE IS ENTRENCHED IN A DEMOCRATIC SETTING. It is my well-considered opinion that the PDP-led FG hasn't done as well as it is possible. Therefore, it will amount to a celebration of mediocrity if it is voted into power again. APC may not prove to be better, but you'll never know for sure until it's given a chance. FINALLY, I DON'T HERO-WORSHIP ANYONE/POLITICAL PARTY BECAUSE I'M CONVINCED THAT A DAY WILL COME WHEN I WILL BE THIS NATION'S PRESIDENT ON THE PLATFORM OF NEITHER THE PDP OR APC. Consequently, I try to see things not as a follower seeking some pecuniary gains in the short-term, but as a leader who takes a longer-term view of issues. Thanks for your time. |
BobNeli. It is interesting how you claim not to be a political jingo. However, it isn't really important because I consider you civil & intelligent, though set in your opinion that PDP deserves to remain in power. Everybody can't be for any particular political party. Another thing I find interesting is PDP members fixation on Tinubu & his perceived influence on the APC. If the man were all you say he is, why hasn't the PDP-led FG with its law enforcement agencies arrested, prosecuted & imprisoned the man? At least, that would have weaken the opposition enough to give PDP a clear ride to ASO Villa. The point here is that a political party is bigger than an individual. We - I mean enlightened people like you & I - shouldn't join others in trivialising our political institutions. In matured democracies, institutions are bigger than individuals. Tinubu shouldn't be singled out & made an issue. Talking about corruption, what has GEJ done about it in the past 5 years? A President who defended a minister serving under him by downplaying the issue with his infamous "ordinary stealing isn't corruption" isn't someone to trust to spearhead a war against corruption. |
searching4love. Maybe you need to read through the piece again. It says the incident happened around 7 at night along a lonely road (if you ain't familiar with Ifon-Imoru area, at least you can deduce that people only take bike on deserted roads at such hour). Besides, would the suspected rapist have attempted if he was sure of being caught red-handed? Meanwhile, how many pregnant women wear tempting clothes? And even if they do, is that justification for such barbaric act? |
I guess the guy assumed his victim would be too shy to report to appropriate authority & consequently, he would go scot-free. Alas, it was his undoing. We'll have fewer rapists when the victims are not shy to report. |
Ok. As to assets declaration, it'll be the height of naivety to believe that Buhari has only a million naira in his account. At least, he is entitled to N23 million monthly as a former Head of State. He can't just spend it all. And as a 72 years old man, there is no doubt he'll have well-to-do children who are contributing to his welfare. As to the APC leaders having skeletons in their cupboards. Yes, they do. And so are their PDP counterparts. Same applies to public/civil servants. THE QUESTIONS WE SHOULD BE ASKING AS CITIZENS HERE ARE; has the PDP government done enough in the past 16 years given the resources available to deserve another 4 years? is the APC presenting a better alternative given the competence of personalities therein & understanding of the challenges at hand? |
Is it only me or is it real that the PDP appears to have run out of significant things to say & have resulted to mundane issues & unfounded conjectures? From GMB certificate to his health to JEGA meeting with ACF leadership. Now, Tinubu planning to take over the Presidency. The question I keep asking is if Tinubu were as corrupt as some will like us to believe, why hasn't the PDP-led FG arrested, prosecuted & jailed him? At least, that would have dealt a big blow to the opposition. |
Aminashy. Can you please contribute something else apart from the above. Yes, it is inalienable right to choose to criticise anything APC, but you can at least say it in different ways. This regular post is becoming monotonous & nerve wracking in the least. |
chukwudi44:. Such an intelligent response you have here. However, I guess you missed the point where it's stated in the report that the research only took tweets sent within Nigeria into cognizance. I also assume you overlooked a line in my submission where I alluded to the research finding not being what is actually obtainable. |
lyntiffany:. Thanks for quoting me. At least, it shows you paid attention to what I had to say. For the avoidance of doubt, I'll like to say that I'm not jobless. Rather, I'm an employer of labour. Meanwhile, I didn't blame, nor absolve GEJ of anything. I only said if indeed, the issue of unemployment is a significant topic in this election as claimed by the research, then the PDP (note, I didn't mention GEJ) might loose as it has been in power for 16 consecutive years & could have done something about it. |
It should come naturally from both partners. It is just an expression of appreciation for the pleasure received. My wife & I say it to each other. |
It is a fact that is easily discernible that APC has been strategic in its use of the social media for electioneering activities long before PDP realised what was happening. That explain in part, the 6 weeks postponement of the elections. The idea was to counter some of APCs gains on this social media. Meanwhile, the most interns aspect of this research is that Nigerians are talking more about insecurity, corruption & unemployment. If that were true, then APC may have the elections won. |
Extom. What the post said was that Buhari has displayed more of the values/principles underpinning the Christian faith than President Jonathan has done. It is like a wealthy man saying one of his servants understand him more than his biological son. |
The idea here is to reduce the number of votes APC will get in Katsina by buying off these PVCs @tit. Meanwhile, the 2 major political parties are involved in this. Though, PDP appears more desperate. |
BobNeli:. Can you kindly clarify your above statements? Meanwhile, I assumed at the start of this thread that you were interested in an unbiased discussion. However, I've seen from your recent posts that you are a marketer of the Jonathan candidacy. Hence, you may not be absolutely objective in your contributions. Nothing wrong with that as it is your inalienable right under a democratic government to hold your own view. In conclusion, I must commend the civility with which you have responded to all issues herein raised. Such is rare on this platform. |
"Because I have lived in this country atleast for the past four months now." Where have you been residing Bro @BobNeli? |
BobNeli. I'll choose not to dispute with your view that Buhari's Town Hall meetings were stage-managed. However, I won't agree with you that there is a popular clamour for a Presidential debate among Nigerians. That is as far from the truth as you might wish to think. |
Some relevant points you have raised there. However, I must say that as much as I agree with you that having a televised debate with President GEJ would have added something to the nation's democratic culture, I'll express my disagreement with you that his absence at such debates translates to impunity. The man has had town hall meetings in 3 places within the country. He has met with business as well as religious leaders. There have been no reports that attendance at these fora were limited to his supporters. I'll conclude by saying that impunity is when you as a leader decide to jettison the law and public opinion to pursue you personal agenda. Such can't be said of GMB in his conduct during this presidential campaign. |
fnk. Such a grest idea you have here. However, I think there is a different specie of birds called "breeders" which are used for the purpose you have in mind. They are heavier than the commonly known layers and are raised differently. That is about all I know for now. |
dagbenga. I dare say 95% of GEJ's supporters on this platform haven't benefited anything from his government. Vast majority of these supporters are clamoring for his return because of religious and/or tribal reasons. Same goes for GMB's supporters. |
Immarocks. Happy for you. |
Governments have 2 basic responsibilities. These are; ensuring a conducive environment that encourages citizens to fulfil their potentials and efficient management of the economy. Therefore, without sentiments, you may answer the following questions; do you feel safer now than before emergence of GEJ as President? are you better off financially than you were 5 years ago when GEJ came into power? When you do that, you have your answer as to who to vote for. |
afosoft. This is a massive one. Thumbs up. |
fasbat:. I wasn't in anyway absolving the ruling party of complicity in the postponement of the election. I was only saying the rescheduling came about because our democracy is not yet matured. |
OP. May we know how old you are? And why are you telling us about Awolowo & Bola Ige who held political offices in the 60s & 70s when you said 83 - 85 was too far behind? And what has been GMB's track record in public offices despite his lack of university degree? I ain't throwing away your points, I just want you to clarify the above, please. |
No doubt the postponement/rescheduling has its pros & cons. One of the cons being what has been highlighted above. Our democracy is growing & issues like this are aspects of the price to pay in achieving sound democratic culture. I only pray civil rule will not be aborted again for any reason. |
Ok. I don't dispute that you are apolitical. However, my point is that you/we don't need to join the politicians in promoting religious/tribal sentiments. |
While I agree that the Presidential election might be shifted due to the Easter festivities, I don't understand why you had to bring in the religious slant to your submission. The PDP & APC are political parties with national spread, cutting across religious divides. Hence, none has monopoly in any region of the country. |
I'll be surprised if GEJ wins in the SW. My expectation is based on 2 reasons; 1. The 2 PDP governors in the zone ain't particularly loved by their people. Mimiko's public rating has been falling since he won his 2nd term bid & contrary to what might be in the media, old members of the PDP are still committed to embarrassing the governor at the polls by ensuring victory for the APC due to the way they were sidelined. As for Fayose, well, I'll rather not say anything. The second thing that will count against GEJ in the region is his PERCEIVED non-performance & corrupt tendencies. No physical infrastructure of particular significance has been put in place in the region since GEJ assumed leadership of the nation. I perceive that NIGERIANS IN THE REGION AIN'T PARTICULARLY FOND OF GMB, BUT ARE DISAPPOINTED IN THE INCUMBENT. A LACK OF VIABLE ALTERNATIVE MAY MEAN TURN-OUT IN THE REGION WILL BE RELATIVELY LOW. |
