That is pretty much the way it is done here. The government doesn't provide much in the way of assistance aside from education loans (which actually is quite a bit of help, if you think about it..) |
Indeed. The 17 year old child and his family should pay for their education. Is it not that same child and his family who will benefit if he gets a high-paying job upon graduation? |
Meh. Focus on learning PHP. You'll pick up HTML along the way. If your goal is to learn X, jump directly into X. Don't learn Y and Z, unless they are direct prerequisties. PHP is a generic programming language. Primarily intended for web applications, yes. But that doesn't mean that you need to bother with HTML, CSS, JS, etc beforehand.. |
Besides, even if you parents are uneducated and thus cannot provide you good advice about what to study in school, what about mentors at school? Or you doing your own research/investigation? My sister for example, she has been heavily researching which course of study she wants to do at her university in the fall. Which one will be good fit for her goal of going to med school. And she has done this research primarily by herself (though she presented her findings to me afterwards). |
@queensmith: I'm not angry at the universities actually. After all, why should they be forced to pass up the chance to extract money from idjits who wants to study David Beckham studies, sociology, etc on the government dime? The main person to blame is the UK government, by not placing more of the financial burden on the 17 year old child. Do you think that if things were like the US, where the only assistance the FG will provide you is with Stafford loans, that people will be so keen on amassing huge debt to take a course David Beckham studies? No...they'll do the math and realize that such a course is not financially wise. The government is the culprit here, for encouraging bad behavior. |
queensmith: Ah I said i'll allow it because it actually might be interesting,Do they then receive unemployment checks after studying David Beckham studies at some crappy university? Or some sort of government financial support? |
David Beckham studies. And someone made a thread asking "Why is England More Developed and Stable Than America?" Lmfao ![]() Rather than subsidizing engineering, science, mathematics, they want to subsidize David Beckham studies. Na wa for this UK |
How much subsidy will I receive per year from the UK government to study David Beckham studies, media studies, sociology, etc? Also, so I don't have to pay anything back so long as I earn less than 19k pounds per year? 19k pounds is ~$30,000. Someone who has a degree in David Beckham studies won't make more than $30k a year until he is 40 or 50 years old ![]() So in practice, he will never have to pay anything back |
Good that this NDLEA dude has said this. More money for Baba Suwe when he takes their azzes to court ![]() Hopefully the NDLEA will continue to run their mouths |
Katsumoto: Well the state mostly. The state will drop most of the subsidy I believe this year.Lmao You are kidding? ![]() So the taxpayer has had to pay money to send someone to study David Beckham studies in college? ![]() No wonder the UK has lagged behind its peers. Terribly managed country, it seems. The US model where you get very little government assistance (except for student loans, which are abundant and easy to get) makes a lot more sense. If you want to spend $120,000 studying a course that will lead to a $30,000 salary...no wahala. But it is you and you alone who will be on the hook for that debt. The state won't subsidize your stvpidity. |
Who on earth pays for them to study these useless courses? I hope that it is they and their family paying, not the state.. |
queensmith: When these black youths insist on going to brunel and kingston what do they expect, abeg. And to add salt to my wounds they study things like 'media studies' 'health and social care' I will even allow criminology and sociology.wtf is media studies, lol. Even criminology and sociology are useless degrees, imo |
AjanleKoko: Laughable to think Nigerian can save Blackberry.I am starting to think that their best bet might to see if they can sell themselves to Microsoft, or something. I dunno what I would do if I were their CEO... |
Eziachi is a man who has my respect. |
Right. But data alone doesn't make a programming language. You need to be able to manipulate the data ![]() Anyway, yeah. |
saxywale: The youths are moving on to Android despite the aggressive marketing of BB by telcos in Nigeria..Thank God for brilliant markets apps like whatsapp e.t.cSkype is my favorite Android app atm. Call my family in Nigeria for free without necessarily having to be at a computer (just need Wi-Fi available). these apps are sweet.. |
maclatunji: Did you read the article at all? I am not saying the Nigerian market will help RIM compete with Apple, Samsung and Nokia but at least it will help keep the company alive long enough for it to restructure and come-out with a new ground-breaking product or for it to be bought-over by some other company. That I read the article doesn't mean that I necessarily agree with its conclusion... |
RIM is in the process of firing 2000-6000 workers: http://www.zdnet.com/blog/btl/rim-layoffs-blackberry-10-all-in-or-get-out/78268 The long-term prospects of this company don't look great, at least right now. |
maclatunji: It can O. Don't you know how desperate Nigerian youths are to own a Blackberry. Why-O-Why did I not enter the BB Sales business from the beginning?Na. If you lose North America and Europe, Nigeria and the developing world won't be enough to save you. It isn't as if they are dominating huge markets like China or India. China, Android and iPhone are popular there. |
Lipstick too is the most annoying thing. Nothing more unpleasant than kissing a girl and getting makeup all over your face. Makeup tastes terrible, too. |
hmm...not really sold on that example. You are setting attributes for the tag p. I suppose this is technically a variable you are setting. But eh...I dunno. Not convinced. In any case, html is not a programming language. |
My preferences: No heels, no makeup. Sexy but not provocative dressing (I don't like girls who let their boobs hang out. At least not for anything serious like a relationship). |
Heh. Interesting. Blackberry is getting their azz kicked in North America and Europe...somehow amusing that they might find their salvation in Nigeria. |
give a concrete example set a variable, then use it to do something |
Not a fan of makeup |
I hope that he is wrong |
How does one set and use variables in html and css? I honestly don't know how off the top of my head.. |
Can't wait to see a "Why is Nigeria more developed than England" thread
![]() |
Indeed. A language for structuring text. But not a programming language. |
Eh, then feel free to try to implement division by 10 faster than your compiler can. It should then be easy to time your code and see which runs faster.... Dollars to donuts, your compiler will do a better job than you can. |
eazyd: Is HTML/CSS classified as a programming language? did a web dev class and my class web project was chosen as the best design.. my prof suggested i further develop the site so i got some team members and we been coding and sharing ideas. Will definitely reveal it here when its finally completed. Not really. HTML is a language for describing the structure of text. CSS is a language for describing how it should be displayed. Neither are programming languages. No variables, no for loops, no if statements etc. Javascript is a programming language, though. |
