A class I was a teaching assistant for in the fall, the instructor has a PhD, but isn't a tenure-track or research faculty. He is just a lecturer only. But he consistently gets some of the highest ratings in the department. He could have taught this material basically when he finished college, or finished his MS. It is fairly elementary material that one doesn't need a PhD to teach. So what is the point of having some research-oriented guy teach this intro course, when you have this guy doing a much better job? |
So the best professors I've had in university were not necessarily the most accomplished or best researchers. Sometimes, these really great researchers are actually crap lecturers. And the bad/mediocre researchers great lecturers. The two qualities don't go hand in hand, is part of my point. Why not just identify people who have good ability as teachers, train them up to MS level and put them to work, rather than encouraging them to get a PhD when their strength isn't research anyways? |
J12: He could be gay and have a man behind him.lmao ![]() |
To be quite honest, I'm not convinced that having a PhD is necessary for being a good lecturer. Nor does a university need to be research-oriented to be a good one. However, I don't really have good evidence to support my position, since the most highly-ranked universities have both of these characteristics ![]() |
I am asking, can you or someone else type those tables into a spreadsheet? As for the source, just check a few pages earlier where physics asked. |
Interesting |
lmao |
Seun is not at the level in which scaling is an issue. People honestly jump into noSQL options too quickly. For most applications, SQL DB is sufficient. |
kwaghe: You guys will not appreciate your governors like Emmanuel Uduaghan & T.A Orji until you visit Adamawa state, Murtala Nyako is by miles the worst governor in history.Elaborate? More details? |
Actually, anyone mind typing up Table 3.26b and 3.26c (pages 174 and 175) from this: http://www.nigerianstat.gov.ng/ext/latest_release/ssd09.pdf? Type up and share as a spreadsheet. FACE or someone else? |
Very entertaining thread |
Superficial African women, as usual |
FACE: That source I posted was also a government source. And moreover is likely of higher value, since it actually provides more information than just raw applicants per state...it also tells us how people are doing on JAMB by state. Just because the result is unpleasant for you doesn't mean that it is invalid. However, I'll take a look at Table 3.26b from the PDF you posted. And if you have any other, feel free to post. |
I really hope that Nigeria breaks up. There are things that I want for my people that I don't think are possible in a Nigerian context. |
lol. this Linda Ikeji blog really is something. |
I was laughing into a chicken salad btw, not breakfast ![]() |
lmfao ![]() Good Lord, this is fun. |
If you say that X is true, nobody is obliged to do your work for you and back up your claim. You make a claim, you back it up. |
The first half I was able to make it through, yes. As for the rest, maybe in a few days if I get around to reading it I'll let you know ![]() Dunno why this professor doesn't see brevity as a virtue ![]() |
Have a good night dude. I disagree with your claim, though. It depends on what the money is being used for. It is not bad for people to be suspicious of loans and ask what the purpose is. But not all loans are bad. |
I am not the one who made the claim of a population of 20 million for the SS. You made the claim. So the onus is on you to defend your claim. Not me. |
Beaf: Thats why I used the word, "technically." Its according to Obj's definition. The population of Akwa Ibom + Cross River combined is 2-4 million? |
Damn that was a long read. |
I'm comfortable with whichever number you choose to use for population; it won't make much of a difference. 16 or 20 is fine. Whichever number you use, the final conclusion will be that the per capita debt is low for Lagos State. |
Or if you don't feel comfortable with population estimates, use the GDP reported by various reputable media companies like the economist. Divide debt by that (~1%) |
Yep. |
So ~$25/capita in external debt. Surely this should not be seen as particularly onerous.. |
I'm trying to enjoy my chicken salad in peace, but now I'm choking in laughter ![]() |
Beaf: Technically, ND includes Abia, Imo and Ondo, it is bigger than the SS.So according to you, Abia, Imo, Ondo + SS, all combined have ~20 million population? |
Regarding 2: a) Sure, probably some cultural/economic stuff with the north. But, we know what the mean is. That doesn't mean that that is what the mean would be, if they did things differently. b) We don't know if the few percentage points is significant. I suspect that it is, but I don't know for sure. |
