Like a phoenix, nchara has risen from the ashes Welcome back ![]() How goes the crop production business these days? |
Some of the posts here about having the nuclear plant in the north or SE zone are amusing. But if you remember the Chernobyl incident, even places far away were affects by the radiation. Nigeria is only about 1.5X the size of Texas. So not really a huge enough country for a nuclear accident in say Owerri to not potentially impact someone in Lagos. |
Lol. The article is from 2008. Wait a second. I also have some breaking news. Man has landed on the moon!!!! https://www.wordcraft.net/spacestuff/apollo11newspaper2.jpg Can you believe it? Who would have thought it possible? |
Haven't bothered reading through most of this thread, but a few somewhat obvious points: 1. No clue why Nigeria of all countries, with some of the largest natural gas reserves on earth would bother with nuclear electricity for power 2. What happens when the plant inevitably falls apart or is mismanaged? Not only will those in the location suffer, but probably people all across Nigeria may very well suffer Garth, do you have any data that backs up this statement of yours of nuclear energy being the cheapest? Table 1 on the Wikipedia page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cost_of_electricity_by_source) seems to contradict you. Coal and natural gas appear to be competitive pricewise. And I'm not sure that this chart takes into account the cost of disposing of nuclear waste. For Nigeria, natural gas is the correct answer for power, imo (with coal and hydro being a secondary source of energy). |
bashr4:BANKOLE Wellington You know that Banky is short for Bankole, right? And that there is no such name like "Banky" in European languages? |
I'm skeptical. I can see a Yoruba first name and European last one. But generally when I see people with english surname and first name (or aliases), they are not from the SW. Or how many Yoruba do you know named Tom Jones? Idowu Jones, perhaps. . . or Daniel Idowu. But this name seems strange somehow. . . |
Theresa Marques? Which part of Nigeria is she from? |
Ijaws are "from Akwa Ibom" as well.
I don't doubt that. this is the problem with using state names as a surrogate for ethnicity, I guess. But I suppose that most readers should be able to pick up on what I mean from context. |
hrm |
Getting married at 16 should be possible. But 9, 10, 13 and such imo should not be possible. And as for a 16 year old marrying some 50 year old man (or even 30+). . . well, that to me should also not be possible. Once she turns 18 she can make that decision. I'm kind of envisioning more high school sweethearts, say 16 and 18 getting married. Not some octogenarian marrying a 16 year old as his 10th wife ![]() |
man no other comments on this thread? crazy |
The magnificent KoboJ is no longer in Ohio. It is just a tool she uses to throw off creepy fans of hers like myself ![]() |
Afanna is not even Ijaw, he is from Akwa Ibom, iirc. |
antitpiah:I've heard of this Africa as the most genetically diverse place before. . . something like an East African is further away genetically from a West African than a white guy from an Asian. But is this true for groups like Yoruba, Ijaw, Igbo, Edo, Hausa, who are all essentially neighbors? Are they "far away" genetically? Is there a paper on the subject you'd suggest reading? I always thought that being able to narrow it down to the level of Yoruba vs say Edo would pretty hard. BTW, can they actually tell Awori apart from white man? Whenever I see this stuff, rather than Awori vs. white, I see black vs. white. or "West African" vs. white. I didn't know they could narrow it that down deeply. |
Interesting. Yeah, I never quite understood how they'd be able to distinguish that closely via DNA. Maybe the science is good enough to tell the 250+ groups in Nigeria apart (or the main 3). If so, that is very impressive. But it seems like it'd be really hard. |
American intel is pretty good, I guess. Or maybe it is obvious to all 3rd parties that Nigeria is an unstable country? |
